Cult Classic 80's Canadian Comedy

Bob and Doug (a.k.a. Dave and Rick) came up with a real winner when they put this one on the big screen. It is a good family comedy with no obscenities, nudity, or gory violence that provides consistent laughs as you follow the McKenzie brothers on their quest to foil Brewmeister Smith's attempt to conquer the beer drinking world.

I grew up watching this movie and although it is incredibly cheesy and dated in terms of technology, it is funny and a good mindless movie to enjoy.

Strange Brew is a comedy film about the life and times of Canada's own native sons Bob and Doug McKenzie. The McKenzie brother, portrayed by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas respectfully, are two unemployed white-collard stiffs that have an unquenchable thirst for cheap beer and quirky jokes. For those movie goers unfamiliar to the Bob and Doug McKenzie characters, their roots can be traced back to the late 1970's. Created by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, Bob and Doug McKenzie became immensely popularized at the legendary The Second City Comedy Club.
As one can imagine, by the time Strange Brew made its theatrical debut in August of 1983, the main protagonists were instantly recognized by a wide variety of people, especially by those who fallowed comedy. What makes Strange Brew so unique is its brand of humor. Moranis and Thomas both hail from Canada, aka The Great White North. As a result, there is a lot of humor that intentionally makes fun of, and mocks, various aspects of Canadian lifestyle.
If your brand of comedy includes Cheech & Chong or Jay & Silent Bob, then Strange Brew is a must have. I definitely recommend this movie, so grab some beer, sit back and relax, and get ready to laugh.

First and foremost, this has got to be one of the best comedies ever. I remember watching this back in the early 80's and laughing so hard. To this day, it has been a movie that I highly recommend. Most of the time, as we grow older, are choices in things change, but this movie has stood the test of time. I had been waiting for a long time to see this come out on blu-ray. Pre-ordered as soon as I found out. Watched it first night it was released. As I stated the movie is hilarious; however, the video quality is not all that great. I understand that they probably released and remastered from a 30 year old print but there were at times too much graininess for my taste but I didn't let that take away from the pure enjoyment of the film.
Would I highly recommend this movie on Blu-Ray? Yes I would for the pure and simple fact that this movie is hilarious.
Now, take off you hoser.

This was one of my favorite comedies from the 80's but I hadn't seen it in years before I purchased the Blu. I was very curious to see how it would hold up. Thankfully, it didn't disappoint. I found myself laughing out loud at many of the same jokes I used to years ago. The picture is a bit lacking for a Blu, but it's not surprising given the date the film was made and the materials they had to work with for the upgrade. If you're a fan of Moranis, Thomas, and the McKenzie's, you can't go wrong with this one, Hoser! Now, take off! Buy your own!

In their quest for free beer, bumbling Canadian brothers Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug McKenzie (Dave Thomas) wind up working at the Elsinore Brewery. The hapless lads uncover a sinister mind-control plot spearheaded by Brewmeister Smith (Max von Sydow) and must stop the scheme, which also involves Uncle Claude (Paul Dooley), a member of the Elsinore family. As Bob and Doug try to prevent Smith from taking over the world, they also manage to drink plenty of their favorite sudsy beverage.

This is one of my all time favorite movies! The MacKenzie brothers are on a mission to drink as much beer as humanly possible. They get a job at Elsnore brewery and end up in the middle of an evil plan to mind control the whole town with tainted beer. They break up the plot with only their style of action. Lots of low brow humor, beer drinking and hockey. Take off hoser!!!

What a fun movie. It's been about 32 years since I've seen this movie, maybe once or twice on tv in between. But to see it again now on blu ray it brings back all the fun memories of this movie. There's too many details to get into but if you like beer and hockey and world domination, your in for a laugh and crack ups.

This is an absolute blast of a comedy. You know what you're in for from the moment the MGM lion appears onscreen. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas are great as usual and when you have Max Von Sydow having a ball as the villain, you know you're in for a good time. Pick this up and have a fun time with friends.

This movie exists solely to bring a smile to your face and joy to you soul and give us a moment to give thanks to the Almighty for mandatory Canadian content. Max Von Sydow with bad teeth as the villain and Canada's favorite son's Bob and Doug Mackenzie the dim but lovable heroes.
