'Stranger on the Run' has a lot of good things going for it. Firstly the cast: Henry Fonda, Michael Parks, and the incredible Dan Duryea in a late career role. Secondly is the director Don Siegel who made many films more famous than this one. This feels like a TV movie but that's not a bad thing. The story is small and fits the format perfectly. It's really a film of moments rather than any kind of intricate plot and it moves along quickly through its 97 minute runtime. There's nothing too original here but everyone does their part nicely and it's an entertaining glimpse at a kind of movie that just doesn't get made anymore. Picture and sound are surprisingly great for a TV film from the 60s (Kino did a fantastic job) so if you want a bit of western nostalgia I'd recommend this one whole-heartedly. Also, it's a favorite of Quentin Tarantino if that helps.

Stranger on the Run is a good TV movie but it left me a little confused. It never really explained why Henry Fonda's character needed to see Alma other than he promised her brother. Anne Baxter looks terrific while, Fonda, Michael Parks, Dan Duryea all deliver strong performances. Sal Mineo has a small supporting role. There is a shootout at the end too! A good movie!
