I have just started using the unit. So far for me too many alerts. It gives me alerts when the water is not being used. So I will see it it is worthwhile after more time with using it

I have been looking for something like this to monitor our households water usage. I needed something that was very simple to install without having to cut into pipes and things like that, so this was perfect for me! I will start by saying that I love the device, although I have a couple small gripes about it. The first one I will get to right away cause it involves the unboxing. The packaging on this thing is ridiculous! The dimensions of the whole package are 11" x 9.5" x 7.5" Inside that huge box is this little tiny box that measures 5.5" x 5.5" x 4.5" that contains the actual device. The rest of the huge outside box is just filled with filler. I get that they are going for a premium look and things like that...but its just a waste of packaging, trees, and shipping costs. I would like to see this company care a little more about the environment and make their packaging fit their product a little better. With that said, unboxing and getting the product setup was really easy. Really make sure your pipe is completely clean before installing it. My first try failed, and then I cleaned off the pipe with some windex and let it dry and then I didnt have any problems after that. You simply use 2 zip ties to attach it to where your main water pipe comes in your house and then plug it in. It's really that easy to install. Then you just download the app and that finishes the setup process. It will detect your device, and get it hooked up to wi-fi. IT will then attempt to guess the kind of pipe you have and the size of it. It guessed mine as a copper pipe when it was a pvc pipe, but I was able to change it in the app and get the right pipe selected. Then you just make sure no water is running while it gets a baseline. Then you flush a toilet or run some water and then it can tell how much water has gone through the pipe. Just as a test I had no other water running in the house and I filled up 2 gallon jugs of water. The app told me I used 2 gallons of water. So I cant ask for more than that when it comes to accuracy! My second small gripe comes in the app. I would like to see it be a little more in depth than it is. Right now it shows you each hour of the day and a bar graph of the amount of water used in that hour. I would like to be able to click on an hour and see how much was used that hour. Or be able to click on an hour and be able to see minute by minute. We have one child that likes to take very long showers, and it would be nice to know exactly how long by having that minute by minute data to look at. I know thats something that can probably easily be fixed in the app, and I hope they add that feature in the future. Things I do love about the app is you can set it to notify you if there is continuous water running for a certain amount of time and also being able to set it in away mode so it notifies you if water is running when it shouldnt be. Very useful if you were to go away on vacation and know that your house is empty. It would let you know if there was a water leak happening. Overall, this is a great product and im very happy to have it installed in our home. I think with a few tweaks of the app to add some more features, this would be an even better product! I would highly recommend it if you are looking for this kind of device to monitor your water.

I was a little skeptical that placing a unit over a pipe would be able to accurately read water usage, but it definitely works. I even put a gallon milk jug under the faucet, filled it up, and the app read exactly one gallon used...Amazing!! I guess if we landed on the moon in 1969, it shouldn't be surprising that this is so accurate. I will note that while the install was super easy, and a detailed instruction sheet is not provided, it really isn't necessary. Their should however be a pretty obvious note on pipe size determination. The unit detected my pipe as copper and 3/4", but I measured and thought it was a 1" pipe. Well, the flow reading was way off. I then realized the device was right to detect a 3/4" because apparently the measurement is a circumference, not just the height of the pipe. Once I figured that out, it was smooth sailing. If your app has trouble getting the device onto your wifi, just move a little closer to your router for setup. Such a cool product. I almost can't wait for my first water leak alert...almost!!

Review for Streamlabs - Wi-Fi Home Water Monitoring and Leak Detection System That this device works as well as it does is amazing considering it “senses” water flowing though your pipes without any invasive hookup required! Installation was very simple, with the caveat that it’s essential to have a power outlet nearby. (In my basement, this was not as easy to come by, but once I solved that, the rest was easy.) It’s important that you *thoroughly* clean the surface of the pipe that comes in contact with the monitor. I made the mistake of wiping it with a cloth. On 40ish year old copper plumbing, that proved to be insufficient. I had to remove the monitor, lightly sand the pipe, and replace the monitor. Using the app, it’s easy to see when the connection is successful because the monitor flashes a double-blink. Connecting the monitor to wi-fi was a snap and when everything else was set (power and clean pipe), I got instant feedback on my water usage. Living in an older house, where not once, but twice I’ve had to deal with pipes leaking into the ground because they were not properly installed when the house was built, I’m really looking forward to having a handle on my water usage with this monitor!

One of the things that you typically don't pay attention to is how much water your home uses. The Streamlabs water monitor does a great job of providing you with daily, weekly and monthly statistics. It even breaks down the day's usage by hour which helped me identify a problem. More on that in a bit. Installation was simple and straight forward. Download the app, connect to wifi connect to waterline, no tools required, follow the initial setup instructions and you'll be off to the races in minutes. One thing to note, it will only keep track of the water flowing through the waterline it is connected to. Since my sprinkler system is connected before it comes into the house it does not track sprinkler usage. It does however measure everything in the house including usage when no one was home. I had a leaking toilet that I didn't know was leaking! Thanks to the water monitor I now know what problem to correct. If you like tech gadgets and like to be able to monitor your homes water usage, this device could not make it any easier.

    A Really Useful Water Monitor

The Streamlabs Water Monitor really works, and installation is as easy as they claim. No plumber is needed at all. The packaging is REALLY classy. It’s like something you’d expect from Apple. The unit is double boxed in heavy cardboard boxes. First let’s talk about installation. You download the app for your Smartphone. The app then gives simple and complete directions on getting you up and running. First it instructs to power up the device right at your desk and with the app’s help you connect the monitor to your Wi-Fi, which I did with no trouble. It then tells you to take the unit to the pipe where the water enters your home and adhere it with two included plastic tie wraps; don’t worry, they give you two extra in case of a problem. (You do need to connect the device to an electric outlet. I was lucky, mine was about 6 inches from the pipe.) At this point the app then works with the device to identify the pipe’s composition. The last step is making sure you’re not using any water which calibrates the device, so the monitor can sense the pipe with no activity running through it. Now you’re done! By flushing a toilet, you can see the app at work, telling you how much water you’re using and how long. The whole installation process took me less than 20 minutes. The best way for me to describe the app at this point is that it’s similar to the app for the Nest thermostat. Like the Nest, it shows you a graph by hours in the day and in this case tells you how much water was used for each hour. You can also compare your water usage from what you used yesterday and make comparisons for each day of the month and each month of the year. But a REAL feature of the app is that it can notify you of unusual water usage which could be a calamity if not checked. The app has defaults for the alerts; how much water would trigger a slow leak alert or a major leak alert. This can be changed by the user. It doesn’t have to be a leak of course. The app will also alert you if, for example, you were watering the lawn and forgot to turn the sprinkler off, or if a grandchild had left the water running in the sink, or a toilet was running continually. It’s just reassuring as you head to bed each night to see that no water is being wasted. Bottom line, if you think that this monitor would be something that you could use, don’t hesitate to buy it. It does what it says and is easily installed without professional help.

The packaging is really nice. The contents includes the monitor, 4 zip ties, a set of replacement pads (I think), and ac cable. Having worked with copper pipe and mine being over 25 years old, I knew to sand the area to remove any foreign substances. After cleaning the pipe, I read the instructions, which state to clean the pipe, lol. It took all of a minute to attach the module. I placed 2 zip ties loosely on the pipe and removed the protection/warning sticker. I carefully placed the unit on the pipe without moving it back and forth or up and down. Once placed, that was going to be its spot. I used the loose zip ties, one on each end to lock it down. Oh yeah, make sure to lift one zip tie above the unit (in my case) or one on each side before placing the monitor. I then followed the few instruction and was ready for the unit to shake hands with my network. It took 3 tries for the unit and android app to find each other. I kept getting incorrect serial number errors. After the 3rd attempt, the app identified my monitor module. You need to have the small blue box with you that has the serial # sticker on it (white label with bar code and corner cut at a 45 degree angle). Make sure to take a good scan of it, I think that's why it took me 3 tries. Next you need to shut off the main water supply. Lucky for me I have a shut off right above where I put the unit. It takes a couple of minutes for the app to sense what your water does when nothing is moving. Then you turn the main back on and it instructs you to flush a toilet. That's it. The unit and app are calibrated and you can set a couple of different scenarios for warnings. There's a slow leak and major leak warning as well as a daily monitor of water usage. Overall I pretty happy with this setup. I bought my current home as a bank owned property and had to fix a pinhole leak under the slab about 5 years ago. I also had a pvc pipe break under the front porch from the main water meter. It probably wouldn't have help with the major leak as it happened while I was sleeping. Had I been away from the house, it would have been great to have as I could have run home or call someone to shut off the main at the street. The minor leak warning gives me piece of mind since I know I have possible issues with under slab piping. Someday I may have to run PEX and bypass the old copper pipe.

Truth be told, I got this really more out of curiosity than anything, but I gotta' admit, its not only pretty cool but also could prove to be a valuable tool. Set-up was pretty straight forward and simple. One minor hiccup required to reset to unit and start over again, but that's no biggie. Installation was simple save the exception of moving 20 Christmas boxes to get to water pipe, but other than that, install took just a couple minutes. Calibration was pretty straight forward and not too time-consuming, but certainly an important step to get right. To be honest, I have not dug down too deeply into the capability of the ap, but on the surface, it has tons of options for tracking. I kind of wish I would have gotten this a couple months ago so I can really take a deep-dive into my lawn irrigation system to see if I may be having some leakage there. In all, nifty little unit and if you have interest in this, go for it. I think you'll like it. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

Fortunately I cannot review on the reason I got this unit, which it to monitor freezing pipes. That said, the first problem I encountered was where to place it. I figured since it cannot go outside, where they say to place it wouldn't work as it may as well be outside as I have a field stone foundation and that section of it is not insulated and it is as cold as outside and can get pretty damp as well. The second problem was the need for an outlet and I have none near my basement pipes. Third problem was WiFi connectivity. The first two problems were solved by deciding to place the unit where there was an outlet nearby and also would monitor the main pipe I worry about when it comes to my pipes freezing. The third got solved due to a new WiFi system that was installed. Once these problems were solved, I had no problem setting up the system and getting it working. It appears to work fine as it is telling me I have no leaks but what I really want won't happen until the temperatures go down into the teens and below. There are a couple of things I wish for with this unit. First, it would be nice if the program could be accessed on a laptop and not just on my smartphone. I also wish there was an easy way to track historic usage other than having to do it manually on a daily basis. So far, it is not compatible with any of my smart home products. This is a product that I would recommend to some but perhaps not others. If someone wanted to monitor for a burst pipe or leaks, very basic things, yep, no problems with that. If someone wanted something to monitor water usage, I'm not sure this would be all that useful.
