A setup and customer "support" nightmare

Not a fan of Swann's ability to communicate with potential buyers or their labyrinth-like morass called "support." I was under the impression that this ensemble offered a lot of functionality it apparently does not possess, including the ability to set zones of coverage within each camera; two-way voice communication; and the option of adjusting each camera for brightness, contrast, etc. Simply trying to decipher the "Model" number for any one unit is practically impossible, and the Swann website is less than helpful. My supposed model number is nowhere to be found (I did come within a digit or two, but with dozens to choose from, who knows if that is it?). The menus shown on the PDF manual apparently are not a part of my purchase, and trying to talk to a live human being at Swann is an exercise in frustration and futility. From moment one, the buyer is left confused over how to hook up & launch on a PC rather than a TV, and where to find menus illustrated in the manual but not on the actual interface. The hardware is good enough, but the lack of functionality is maddening, as is the intentional evasiveness of customer support. Not recommended for the home user looking for a system that is relatively easy to set up.

I just bought this brand new set at Best Buy. After installation of this Swann set 8 cameras, right away one is not working. My installer tested all other 7 and those are ok. The installer was kind to put an old camera in (one from my previous set) for temporary and it works well. Apparently that camera is broken/defected. I called Best Buy and was told that I need to have all cameras removed and put back in the box then Best Buy can send it back to Swann for replacement because It has 2 years of warranty. There’s no way for me to hire an installer to take them out after I paid him to install it. So I contacted Swann and requested to have that particular camera replaced. I would not recommend this product because it cost me money to pay the installer to come back the 2nd time and also time to contact Swann for replacement although the quality is good . I’m still waiting for Swann response.

Regarding product warranties, Swann's cameras now come with a standard 2-year warranty. Additionally, you have the option to extend this warranty to 3 years through a subscription to our Secure+ plans if you wish to.

Excellent camera quality. Crisp, sharp video with very good night vision. The system has so many options, although the initial setup was easy enough by just using the default settings.

Replaced an older model Swann camera/dvd system. This unit far exceeds expectations. Clear, bright, more detailed real-time images day and night. Love the motion feature.

Very Misleading!

I bought this system to replace an older, outdated system. Some of the features are good. I’m really frustrated because the manual and the box says free online monitoring but now they are trying to charge me $10 a month now. Very misleading!! Impossible to talk to a real person. NEVER AGAIN!

Hi Keith. I think you may be confused, there are no compulsory monthly fees to use any Swann product. You can absolutely use this DVR system fully & without any fees whatsoever, for the life of the product. Swann do offer an optional subscription service called Secure+ for those customers that want it. The Secure+ service offers extra benefits such as extended warranty, product insurance and more. You can learn more here: https://us.swann.com/secure-plans/ Again, the Secure+ service is completely OPTIONAL. If you don't want it you simply say No when asked in the app setup process, or cancel any existing plan that you may have added by mistake.. -SD, Swann Team
