We have a Swann 4K DVR system and we were amazed with the quality of the video. So when we were looking for a floodlight camera and saw this one, we knew we had to have it. This floodlight camera did not disappoint. The video is beautiful and clear. The floodlight is wired but the camera is wi-fi/wireless. It is powered off the electricity to the light. We installed it on the he-shed in our backyard. We had a floodlight on there already so installation was relatively simple. Set-up with the app was a snap, especially because it uses the same app as the DVR. The app is pretty intuitive. The camera has some great features. Not only is it in 4K Ultra HD but it has free local and cloud storage. It even includes a 32 gb memory card. Many security products require you to pay for storage. My doorbell and video hub have a cloud, and my wireless camera system has a cloud too. At $10 per month each, it can get pricy. So Swann having free storage is a big boon. The camera also has a 2-way talk and listen feature. The mic works very well. I could hear my neighbors on their porch (about 30 ft away) crystal clear, with no distortion. There is also a siren. It isn't super loud but it would probably startle an intruder. The floodlights are adjustable and dimmable in the app. I could not figure out how to dim the lights. The instruction booklet didn't say and neither did the Swann website. I wound up having to call Swann customer service. I was not looking forward to that. I was pleasantly surprised that I had a representative that was easy to understand and knew the company's products. She contacted the technical people and emailed me instructions on how to dim the lights within a few minutes. She was even able to help me with an issue I had with my DVR system! Here is how to dim the floodlights: In the app, go to the live view for the floodlight camera. Click on the lightbulb below the live screen. You will have a slide bar that you can slide from left to right. If you are looking for an easy to install and use floodlight security camera, this is a great choice. I have been extremely impressed with Swann security products. I have 3 other name brands and these are definitely the best of all of them.

The problems As compared to other Swann Camera Systems I own this system is a little lacking. The microphone on the camera has a good pick-up. The speaker does not play loud enough for the person to hear what you are saying. The picture quality in daylight hours is ok, but terrible at night. There is a delay from what the camera sees to what the playback shows. Not a big lag, but noticeable. There is also a problem with the date/time stamp showing the correct time. I also noticed the system recognized my vehicle entering the driveway, however this was at different spots and sometimes not at all at night. Keeping in mind that the camera records at the wrong date/time stamp makes it harder to find an event previously recorded. The good Installation was easily completed following the instructions. While the application still needs work, you can tune the lights and camera to your needs. You can also pair the camera to Alexa/Google. File storage is on a Micro SD Card, a 32-gigabyte card is provided. You can set-up the detection modes on the application, you can even deselect your pets so the do not trip a warning message. The camera records at full 4K color during the day, and at night when the floodlights are energized. The camera changes to IR display when the floodlights are out. I would not recommend this system in its current state.

Thanks for your review Herbert. Whilst you won't be able to live view or interact with the camera when your network is down, the great news is that we include an SD Card with the camera so you should still get recordings that you can view later. The floodlights will also turn on with motion as long as the unit has power.

The bad: it is slow to load, not as quick as Ring. Quality ok should be 2K. There is no schedule for light time. The good is local storage can be changed to another chip.

Hi Hero. Under the Detection Settings section of the app you will find Light controls. In here you can set the floodlight brightness level and duration, up to a maximum of 5minutes. If you wish the lights to be on for longer than this you can also manually activate them by tapping the light bulb icon within the live view screen. Hope this helps.

The Swann Outdoor Floodlight 4K camera works great and has some pretty nice features that make it a good addition or starting point for your home security, but I feel that the requirement of having to use Swann's application to be able to get full functionality and configurability really hampers this from being a better camera. The camera itself is great, good quality image, bright floodlight, and local storage make it a great camera and the additional features that it has make it so that you can really fine tune how it works to make it work best for you, but I just wish I could add it as a camera to my already existing systems and not have to make use of an app that may or may not get continued support for the life of the camera. This is a standalone camera that does not work over ethernet, so it cannot be (easily) added to your other Swann security products that almost all use PoE wired cameras. This means that you can either go through the process of adding it as an IP camera using the WiFi address so that you can add it to your existing camera system or you have to use the Swann app. I don't feel that this is a good solution since Swann already has many great camera systems that allow additional cameras to easily be added using ethernet, and if they were going to make it app based then why not make it fully integrate with some of the existing home standards such as Google Home, Apple HomeKit, or Alexa. While the camera can be added to Google Home and to Alexa it is added through an integration through Swann rather than being directly added into either of these apps as a standalone camera. I feel that there is no need for every single camera manufacturer to reinvent the wheel when it comes to integrating their cameras into existing systems, either make it so you can add it wired to an NVR system or make it so that it can be added to the preexisting home systems that are already widely in use as a standalone camera.

      Hi JohnnyD,

Thank you for your review and for including your extra suggestions on integrations with our NVR systems and 3rd party platforms such as Hey Google & Amazon Alexa.

Whilst it was not technically possible to enable this particular product to record to an NVR, all Swann systems & cameras from the last 3 years can work together seamlessly under the same Swann Security app. This app is built in house and it will be our main app now and into the future. We release regular updates to it with new products and features being added to it all the time.

It is actually possible to view this Swann camera in the Alexa or Google Home apps, however there are a few extra steps you'll need to follow to achieve this and the user experience likely won't be as good with our camera compared to using the Swann Security app which we've designed it to work with.

For Alexa, you would need to add Swann as a "Skill" within the Amazon Alexa app. For Google Home, you would need to add a "Works with Google" driver in the Google Home App. Even Amazon-owned brands such as Ring and Blink require the Alexa skill to be installed, it just comes as part of the requirement for us to work with their system. Hope this extra information is of assistance.

Thanks again for reviewing our product & for your feedback.

Great choice! Swann has been in the home security and monitoring field for quite some time. I have had the experience of dabbling with various platforms in the past and have never been disappointed. This outdoor floodlight 4K surveillance camera is no exception. Right out of the box, this has a decent quality feel to it. It came packaged well and was easy to open and unpackage. Installation, while simple for some, may be deemed to complex or beyond others expected capacities. It is a hardwired unit so ONLY proceed with self installation if you are comfortable enough. If you ahve any concerns, I highly encourage you to hire a qualified electrician or ask an experienced friend to help you out. Basicaly shut off power to that breaker, remove the existing lighting unit, re-wire this unit back in, mount it, turn power back on and you are off and running. Next, download the app and connect to your network and you will see you have several options to customize the light and monitored zones. I have the Google Nest unit on the garage side of my house and I placed this on the detached garage. I honestly see little difference in either quality or brightness of lights nor motion sensing. This is a great option, especially if you are already in the Swann ecosystem And if not, Swann is an excellent place to start!

This is the newest all-in-one outdoor floodlight 4K security surveillance camera from Swann. It comes in a nice and compact package which includes the camera itself, mounting hardware, installation, and operating instructions, a 32GB MicroSD card, and some window and door stickers. It was easy to install the camera and set it up using the Swann Security app. You can easily pair it by scanning the QR code on the camera. Make sure you have a junction box close to where you want to mount it so you can wire the floodlight for power. You can install the base mounting bracket first and then attach the camera part to it using the included screw. This is a well thought-out design from Swann that makes the installation a breeze. The floodlights are very bright and using the app, you have the option to adjust the brightness. The camera has an amazing clear picture quality. You can record in color at night when the lights are on. The unit has 2-way audio, which will enable you to communicate with guests or intruders. You also have the option to activate the siren and flashing lights using the app or setup via motion detection. The heat and motion detection can be customized in the app and areas can be masked off to prevent false trigger. The camera itself can withstand harsh weather conditions all year round. The best part is that all the recordings are stored locally on the included MicroSD card, which means no monthly fees. The storage can be expanded up to 128GB, which isn't a lot, but much better than the 32GB included card. You can also sign up for Secure+ plans for cloud storage, etc. but it is not required to use this. If you are already invested in the Swann security ecosystem, it's a no brainer to add this floodlight camera to your setup.

Thank you very much for your great review Prat, we're glad to hear you're enjoying your new Swann Floodlight Camera.

I just wanted to let you know that this camera includes 1 day of free cloud storage in addition to the 32GB Micro SD Card. The cloud recordings give you nice fast playback in the app, whilst the local storage offers a great backup solution if you ever have network problems that prevent a cloud upload. There aren't many other brands on the market that offer such a generous amount of storage for free.

This floodlight is awesome with a few caveats. The lights are as bright as the old fixture it replaced, which already lit up an RV bay sized area (20 feet by 60 feet) with little issue. The siren is loud enough to alert whoever is there that they are being watched, but not too loud and wakes all of the neighbors up if accidentally triggered. Two way audio works fine, hearing from 15 feet up can be a little quiet, but manageable. This powers up using the old electrical wiring that was already in place and was easy to setup. WiFi works ok. That is in fact my biggest complaint. I wished there was a version that supported POE or an ethernet based connection for a more reliable connection. On occasion, due to the location of the camera vs my router, it can take a second to connect to the camera. Additionally, when switching from lights off to on, the camera can take a few seconds to adjust. That adjustment can be a little bit obnoxious, but I would still whole heartily recommend this camera. It works well, image quality is good, and the light is plenty bright.

Thank you very much for your review and 5-Star rating MrWare.

You're correct that having a good Wi-Fi signal at the camera's location is a key part of getting the best performance from this camera (or any Wi-Fi camera for that matter). Swann recommend a Minimum Internet Upload Speed of 4Mbps for a high resolution camera such as this one in 4K. For some people, a simple and low cost Wi-Fi range extender placed close to this Floodlight can also make a big difference to its connection speed and performance.

We hope that you continue to enjoy this product, if you need any further assistance with it please don't hesitate to contact our technical support team via support.swann.com.

Swann has a good track in my opinion for home security surveillance. I have used alot of their products in the past and will probably continue to do so. I had a small open area of my front lawn that I wanted to monitor. I thought this Swann Outdoor Floodlight 4K Security Camera would be the perfect thing as well as provide some deterrence with the floodlight or give me some extra lighting when I am out in the dark. Physically setting it up does require some professional knowledge! I had my electrician help me out as it does need AC power running into it. After it is physically setup, getting started was fairly easy. To be honest, I was able to just add it to my existing setup which saved me alot of time. If this is your first or only device that needs to be setup, I recall it still being very simple to setup. Video quality was good. Daytime quality was great for its price point. The night-time quality was a little lacking in my opinion but I thought it was ok. While there is technically two-way audio, I really would not use it for any communication like a Ring. I liked the bright floodlights and it fulfills my needs. You can customize how bright you want it to be and even control some aspects of the motion detection which I like alot. All in all, I think it is a good overall surveillance camera.

    Security floodlight that needs improvement

The Swann - Outdoor Wired 4K 32MB Security Camera with Floodlight is a good floodlight with pros and cons. Installing the Swann floodlight was one of the easiest floodlights I’ve ever installed. It has a removable plate that you install onto the junction box bracket. Once the bracket is installed, you can easily attach the floodlight to the bracket and tighten it down with a single screw. I was very much impressed with the install process. I was not as impressed with the pairing process of my WiFi network. The floodlight will only pair with the 2.4gHz band. I tried pairing it with a router I have in the basement. I failed during the last stage of the setup process. I tried several times and it continued to fail. I then tried another router and it failed as well. I was finally able to get it paired with a 3rd router I have. Once I finally got it setup, I can say that it does a good job of detecting motion. However, there are things that can be improved. There’s no way that I’ve found that will allow me to share the floodlight camera to family members. We all have to use the same username and login when it’s installed on our devices. When it detects motion, it only records for 10 seconds. I haven’t been able to find a way to change this to a much longer recording time when it detects motion. The time zone doesn’t stay synced and the timestamps are way off. I searched online and saw where other users have the same issue. While watching a recorded video, I’m unable to zoom in on the video I’m watching. If there is a way to zoom in, I haven’t found a way to get it to work. In live view, the icons to select different options are too small. If I want to turn the light on, I sometimes hit the alarm button which is next to it. These icons need to be spread out more. The connection to the floodlight is very spotty. I often receive Error messages when I’m trying to connect to my floodlight. I was able to turn the light on to my floodlight, but was unable to turn the light off because I kept receiving failed error messages. The install process of the light is great. However, connectivity issues and the app UI is not all that great.

This Swann floodlight camera seemed promising initially but ultimately turned out to be a massive disappointment. Physical installation of the camera and app setup were both easy. The floodlight fit into the same junction box after I removed an existing external lighting fixture. The iOS app was easy to set up, intuitive to use, and adding the floodlight cam was as simple as scanning a QR code on the device. I took a photo of the QR code to keep handy and avoid needing to climb a ladder to scan again if required. Turned out to be a good idea as I’ll share a little further on. No desktop application is available for this camera, only the mobile device app. Once everything was up and running, I was viewing crisp, beautiful, full color 4K video of our entire driveway area on my phone. The viewing angle covered our entire driveway, significant portions of lawn on both sides, and even all the way across the street. I’ll list the good first: • Full color video recording both day and night as well as crisp IR night vision • Separate detection modes for people, vehicles, pets and packages • Adjustable sensitivity for motion and people that can be set by mode • Programmable modes that can be set by schedule • Lights and/or siren available to activate on detection and are configurable • Micro-SD and cloud storage options available • App can immediately open in live view, saving valuable time viewing real-time alerts • Photo/video capture, 2-way mic, lights, and alarms can all be triggered manually or automatically • Alerts are categorized separately (motion, person, pet, car, package, all) in activity feed • LED floodlights are physically adjustable and allow adjustment of intensity and duration. They are quite bright at full intensity • The camera records video in 4K (cannot be set to a lower resolution). • A 64GB micro-SD card is included and cloud storage options are also available. • Floodlight Cam has good Wi-Fi connectivity and harsh weather resilience. Camera has already endured two full days of torrential downpours and numerous nights of sub-freezing temperatures Now for the bad. • Light activation is inconsistent. The lights usually activate when a vehicle pulls into the driveway after dark but sometimes they fail to trigger. I initially assumed the vehicle’s bright headlights were to blame but, it even occasionally occurs when a vehicle backs into the driveway. • The camera records in black and white IR if the floodlights are off and in full color if the lights are on. Color recordings are grainy if the light intensity is set lower, yet details are overexposed with the lights set at higher intensity. I really can’t find a sweet spot. I can see general activity, but it’s hard to make out faces and license plates at night. • Video playback is a little slow, and alerts have a few seconds of latency. • Clicking on a specific detection alert opens all the recordings for that day rather than the corresponding video for the alert. The same occurs whenever I click on people, car, pet or package alerts. There are no viewable alerts for events after 2pm due to the next issue • The most annoyingly persistent issue is with incorrect timestamps on saved video clips. Video clips are timestamped with the date and time, but the timestamps are incorrectly 10 hours ahead. Oddly, the date and time in the app and on alerts are correct. Because the timestamps are 10 hours ahead, anything recorded after 2pm opens under the next day/date. The only way to see these clips is to search for them manually in the next day’s saved clips. I’ve tried exhaustively to fix the incorrect timestamps but have not been successful. My troubleshooting steps included: • Syncing the camera repeatedly with my handset time • Syncing the camera repeatedly with my regional time zone and even testing other time zones • I tried formatting the SD card in-app, but it constantly fails, so I physically removed the SD card and reformatted it on my PC. In-app card formatting still does not work • Reset the camera through the app and then via the physical reset button on the camera • Reinstalled the Swann Security app on my phone • Rebooted my home router (per support request) Nothing worked. The issue appears to be remotely caused because after several hardware resets and reformatting the media, the time is still off by 10 hours and the previously recorded clips were still there. At minimum, the clips should have been erased after resetting the camera and formatting the card. I was not subscribed to a Swann cloud storage plan when I wiped everything. I subsequently subscribed to a plan with hopes it would correct the timestamps, but that too failed to resolve the issue. Another curious time-related issue occurs whenever I open the modes menu. I constantly get an alert stating that the time zone is set incorrectly. However, when I click the alert, it opens the time zone adjustment and the displayed date, time, and time zone are all correct. My last resort was to call Swann support. After spending nearly an hour on the phone and repeating all the above troubleshooting steps plus a few extra, they were unable to resolve the issue and escalated to their level 2 support. I am scheduled to receive a follow-up call in a few days. As promising as things started out with this floodlight cam, it all quickly went downhill. The app, although easy and intuitive to use, doesn’t offer enough granular control to fix what should be an easily correctable timestamp issue. As luck would have it, the timestamp issue ended up negatively affecting me. The camera documented a trespass on my property after the actor was repeatedly warned not to do so. This is an ongoing dispute, so authorities requested the clips. I had to send the clips along with an embarrassing disclaimer that the timestamps were off by 10 hours. That makes me concerned about the potential admissibility of any clips as evidence in a court of law if the camera is demonstrably malfunctioning. I wanted this camera to work out and I tried everything within my ability to make that happen, but the timestamp issue is a huge one and has so far proven to be unfixable. It’s quite likely that I may simply have a defective unit and nothing short of replacement is going to fix it. Swann support advised this is the first they’ve heard of this specific issue. The one thing that concerns me is that the issue persists despite fully reformatting both camera and internal storage. This makes me suspect this may not be a local issue unless persistent firmware is the culprit. Regardless, I cannot recommend the 4K floodlight camera at the moment. In fact, if this upcoming tier 2 call doesn’t resolve the issue, I will be seeking out a replacement camera ASAP from another brand. The Swann 4K floodlight cam has several good features, and I would likely be happy with it if the timestamps were correct, despite the other minor cons. Unfortunately, the timestamp issue is a major issue and thus, is a dealbreaker.

I was so excited to see how well this Swann Outdoor flood light worked because living out in the country our yard is very dark and our sechrity light is away from our home so it really didnt provide a good enough lighting. The Swann Outdoor flood light does need to be hardwired. We read the directions thoroughly and got it all wited up and working correctly. It took us a little while to achieve this only because we have all our wiring running through a crawl space thats u der the roof of our home. The swann light is really bright and puts off a good lighting for our entire porch and front area of our home. My favorite fearure is that its not only a flood light but also a security camera with two way talking. I love using the two way talking when i have packages being delivered , when im in the back of the home i can tell whoever is at the door to give me a second. The video clarity of this camera is amazing and shows clear as day. When playing outside with the kids i sometimes use the siren on the flood light to let them know its time to come inside. Overall this flood light has provided grear security and lighting of the front of our home.

Hi Terrie. Sorry to hear you've had network connection issues with this product. Like any Wi-Fi camera it will require a good Wi-Fi signal in order to operate normally, and there can be many other factors in and around a home that could impact a Wi-Fi network, so it isn't necessarily a distance thing.

For some general tips around how to improve Wi-Fi performance of our products, I would recommend having a look at this article on our support site: https://support.swann.com/hc/en-us/articles/4663383990937-Wi-Fi-Connectivity-Improvement-Tips-for-Swann-Products

Some customers will also add a Wi-Fi range extender between their router and a camera like this one in order to get a better network connection. Any simple and low cost range extender will suffice.

If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach our to our technical support team. Their contact details can be found on support.swann.com
