I was going to get a lesser series of the TCL but this one was on sale for half price! Now that I have it I am so glad I got the series 8! The picture on this is unreal. Love everything about it.

From the time you get it out of the box you can tell its quality. The mini LED backlight system adds weight and the whole TV is very solid. Speaking of mini LEDs...This thing is as close to OLED that you will get. The contrast is amazing. If you are thinking about it...Just buy!

Setup the TV initially and noticed a blacked out area that took up a decent amount of space. Had to call BestBuy for a replacement and currently waiting on a delivery swap. Hoping the new one doesn't have any defects. Outside the massive issue with the screen, everything else is working great. Took a little bit to work through some settings, but very easy to understand. Waiting on second tv to determine if this is a one off issue or not. Will update after I receive the new one.

I better get a replacement TV from TCL or Bestbuy because this was the worst decision of my life. Every time this happens I have to restart the TV and it has gotten to a point where this happens every 10-15 min. I’d rather just not watch tv. Such a waste of money thinking I’d get a quality product.

Hi, I recently purchased the TCL 8 series based on the CNET reviews. I made the purchase when Best Buy had the price at $999 dollars. For that price, it cannot be beat. The picture quality on this tv is amazing with colors that have plenty of pop, depth, and brightness. The mini LED's provide excellent black levels and contrast. The picture quality is something to recon with. There are plenty of apps via Roku and they load fast and function properly. Streaming a variety of applications, I haven't had any issues and the picture quality remains excellent. Even the sound quality is exceptional. I see why it was rated high by CNET. Now, when viewing the picture off axis, it degrades and looses its pop. But once again if you are viewing the picture heads on, it ranks up there with the other high end models. I also have the LG OLED C9 in 65", the TCL is not exactly the same in regards to picture quality. However it is right there or even better (depending on which model) than the Sony's, Samsung's, Vizio' s etc.. One other note, the tv is heavy. You will need two people when handling it. For the $999 this tv was an exceptional value, but I probably wouldn't purchase it for $1999, I would go OLED for a couple hundred dollars more. But I am impressed with the picture quality. The 4 stars are just due to the picture degrading when viewing off axis.

    Holy Cow it's BRIGHT

TLDR version: This TV is seriously bright. The black levels are very respectable. If you sit straight on, it looks phenomenal. Roku is great. To get better picture quality, you have to spend almost double. If you only watch 4K HDR, just buy it. If you watch a lot of 1080P or lower, then think twice, but still consider. **Full review below** My sister-in-law wanted me to find her an affordable 65" TV, and I had always been intrigued by this model but never seen one on display. It's a Mini LED QLED television, and if I'm not mistaken, the first of its kind, even though Samsung wants you to believe their 2021 Neo QLEDs are the first ones. TCL did it in 2019 with the 8 Series and their current 6 Series is also Mini LED QLED. A local Best Buy here had an open box one on the wall, and it was only showing the 720p cable feed that all the low-tier televisions at Best Buy receive if they don't have a model-specific 4K demo built in. I could tell from 30 feet away that the contrast and uniformity of this Q8 series was hands down better than all the other models around it (mostly 5, 6 or 7 series models from competing brands). I wanted to see 4K content on it but that was not possible, so I had to trust that my judgment of contrast and color alone would suffice. Thankfully, I spent two years selling home theater equipment myself, and I own three OLED televisions, so I trust my judgment. I'm glad I did, because I pulled the trigger and purchased this for my sister-in-law. (** I got this open box set for ~$700, and got the Geek Squad protection, so out the door it was less than a grand. I don't think you can beat that. **) It took an hour or so to set up the Television, since their internet was slow, and they didn't already have a Roku account. If you already have one, the time for setup could easily be halved. However, I've got a Roku Ultra at home, and if I had to guess, the processor in my Ultra is faster than the processor in this TV, so it could still take a bit for initial setup and download of all the apps. Once I had the TV set up, I had to finally test some 4K HDR content, so I hopped on YouTube (I know, Netflix would have been better, but they don't have the 4K subscription). Even though it was just HDR10, holy cow did this thing look pretty awesome. The highlights were astoundingly bright, and the dark areas were respectably dark. I'm used to OLED brightness levels and perfect blacks, so this television was almost BLINDINGLY bright to me. I actually had to turn down the max brightness for HDR, because they thought it was too bright as well, and I was using the Movie/Cinema picture preset, mind you. As far as 4K (and especially 4K HDR), this TV set kicks butt. It looks better than every other model in its price bracket, and even several above. Pretty much the only 2020 models I thought were better and worth spending the extra money on were the Sony X950H or an OLED. I think this TV looks better than the 900H with 4K content, and better than every Samsung. However, when it comes to 1080P or anything less than that, things change. If you watch 1080P content, the upscaling on this TV is not nearly as good as any of the big brands, but that's part of why you pay for those sets. 1080 is passable on this TCL, but anything less than that looks like doodoo. My LG E7 from 2017 can still make a DVD watchable. I wouldn't want to watch a DVD on the TCL. But if it was 4K HDR content, and I got to sit right in front of the TCL, I wouldn't feel like I needed to get back to my OLED right away. The picture washes out like any LCD the further you get from the middle, but that's normal. Head on, the contrast is astounding. I still prefer my OLED, and I will never buy anything for myself besides OLED until MicroLED (or if, I should say) becomes a thing, or until they make some SERIOUS changes to OLED to make them significantly brighter (not G1 bright, like 30% brighter). But my sister-in-law loves the TV, and I know if I visit I won't hate watching anything on it. Overall, I recommend it.

I wanted the best TV I could get for the money. First I bought a new SONY OLED, beautiful color, but way to dark, NITS only 800 as opposed to 1500 on TCL TV. I returned it for an LGC9 OLED, same thing dark picture, and on top of that, it was auto-dimming as I was trying to watch it, kept getting darker and darker..I can only say that this HAS to be built into OLED TV's to protect against burn in. SO, with more research, It came down to the Samsung QLED or the new TCL 8 Series....Well with a price difference between 1999 or 2100 (with Samsung on sale from 2600) Plus you have to pay 600 for a 5 year warrenty for the Samsung, as opposed to only 450 for the TCL since it falls under 2000 I think. The TCL made the price point way better! PLUS I'm a cord cutter and stream everything, so to have Roku built in is wonderful for me...No Fire-stick dangling from the back of the TV...PLUS I use my TV as a computer monitor...When the OLED TV's see a static image, it's start to dim that image, so when your sitting on the computer for more than a minute, BAM Auto-Dimming time, and your eyes go CRAZY! I couldn't be happier with the beautiful deep rich colors and deep blacks this TV produces. It's on par with the OLED, without having to worry about burn in and low NITS! Trust me, this TV won't disappoint you! Plus if your trying to match this TV with the Samsung QLED, the Samsung Doesn't come with Dolby Vision! The TCL TV not only comes with Dolby Vision, it comes with Dolby ATMOS sound also! I do use a soundbar, but to be honest I tried the sound without the soundbar and it's the best I've heard from standard TV speakers...I'm a big fan of TCL now, one remote to rule them all!

It was definitely time for an upgrade in my living room. I was leaning toward getting an OLED, but after talking to a couple techy friends, they explained to me that Mini LED is the latest and great thing because you still get the blackest blacks AND the brightest brights. From my research, TCL is the only brand that has Mini LED, so it made my choice easy! All I can say is WOW. This TV is stunning. When it arrived, I was immediately impressed because the packaging design was very premium; It made me feel like I bought something special. Unboxing the TV and setting it up was really straightforward and the way the packaging was designed made it easy to protect the TV screen during setup. The TV itself is sleek and I really like the modern design of the stand! When you turn on the TV there is a step-by-step guide that helps you get everything connected. The ROKU platform continues to be easy to use (Hallelujah!), so my TV had all of my favorite apps in a matter of minutes after signing into my account. But, the best part is when you turn on your favorite show….The picture quality is perfect, I do not know how else to describe it. The color is so vivid and the black isn’t faded at all, its pure black. The first thing I turned on was an episode of ‘Power’ and the intro is all black and white artistic scenes….it was incredible how crisp the lines were! Overall, I am very impressed and would definitely recommend to a friend!

TCL 65" 4k Roku was 50% off and I could not resist

Another TV in the house died, so I was happy to swap my 55" HD set for the upgraded experience of 4K on 65" and the 50% off sale made it a no-brainer. I've been a fan of Roku for many years and it is great to have it built in on this TCL 8 Series TV. I was a little surprised to find that the remote was a simple (voice) Roku remote when my previous set had dozens of buttons on the remote control. The few buttons and on-screen menu is actually a great design. The screen is super bright. I sometimes have to close my eyes on an all white image. Images are very clear, but frankly I am not as blown away with 4K and HDR as I expected. Over all, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it friends and family. There are only a couple negatives to mention. The set reboots from time to time which interrupts viewing for a few minutes. The most disturbing thing has happened only once. The TV lost its pairing with the remote control. There are no buttons on the TV to power on or off or anything else. I unplugged the power and then could not get it to come on again. After several minutes, it occured to me to try the Roku app on my phone and with the app's remote control option, I was able to bring the set back to life and go into settings to get the remote paired again. Perhaps a third negative but related is the fact that the manual can hardly be called that, it is so thin and did not include the issue just described in the troubleshooting section. One final thing to note: the TV is quite heavy and requires two strong people to lift. With all that said, I watch this TV several hours each day and consider the money was very well spent.

OK, picked this guy up about a month ago last time they had 400 off. This set is super bright with excellent black levels and colors on 1080p cable, and just awesome on 4k HDR videos and demos. I don't notice any blooming and the colors and flesh tones are very bright, even, and balanced. It gets really bright when called for and goes inky black when needed as well. When the signal drops it's like the screen is shut off. It really stood out from the rest of the cheaper sets on the wall in the HD demo loop they were playing and looks even better here at home. I hardly notice any color banding and my screen uniformity is pretty much perfect on my set. Sometimes I notice some brightness pops on fir and like that but it's not common and not enough to ruin my impression of the picture quality. My one complaint is the HDMI ARC 4 port gets picky and will not always detect my cable box after being turned off for the night and turned back on in the morning. I can get it back by changing the port format or unplugging and plugging the cable back in to re-sync it again so maybe the ports are a bit picky, I have a bad cable, or a firmware update will fix it later. As far as I can tell the other 3 ports seem to detect devices OK. I'm not sending it back over that but hope they are aware of it if it's a common problem. I would highly recommend it if you want a excellent picture and can deal with some minor issues. I would make sure your panel looks uniform and all the HDMI ports work OK for you. I'm enjoying all my shows and movies all over again and searching out good 4k and 8k HDR demos just to sit here and enjoy the stunning videos I see now.

It has a much brighter screen than the other OLEDs I looked at. It looks beautiful in my daytime living room watching HDR videos with the most accurate "Film" display preset. The OLEDs I looked at were not bright enough using the more accurate "Calibrated" or "Film" presets on HDR content at the Best Buy with normal bright store fluorescent lighting (similarly bright as my living room), they needed to use a "Bright" or "Vivid" presets that mess up the colors noticeably. But at night with no bright lamps, the OLEDs might look just a bit better than this TCL class 8, maybe... But personally, even in a dark home theater, I would prefer the TCL's brighter and more dynamic picture to an OLED with a darker picture even with it's slightly better color accuracy. I just don't want to have to use super dark curtains to watch my dark SciFi in the daytime. My take is this TV has 98% of OLED color purity with TWICE the brightness and less cost. I picked this up for only $1,000.00 on sale. (WARNING! I first bought the class 6 TCL only to have it "Brick" on me during the initial firmware upgrade while setting it up, I returned the class 6 and upgraded to this much better class 8.)

I replaced my 5 year old 65" TCL with this. I wanted the best black levels and HDR performance for the price. Other models I considered were LG OLED and the Sony X950. I watch a lot of news with static content and was worried about potential OLED burn in. When this landed as a deal of the day for $1,000 I jumped on it. (I don't think I'd purchased if it was at full MSRP of $2,000) It's the only TV currently available with micro led technology. I've had it up and running for 3 days with minor calibration. I think this is currently as close to OLED as you can currently get. Pros: 1. The black levels are phenomenal! I've watched 4k HDR demo loops specifically designed to highlight a TV's black levels. There is no gray, artifacts, bleeding. Black in scenes is truly black. 2. Dolby Vision HDR. I'm using the latest NVIDIA Shield Player and AppleTV 4k as my sources. (Haven't had a chance to play Xbox One X on it yet) Content in Dolby Vision is pure eye candy. I can't prove it but in my opinion it looks much better than HDR10. 3. Very bright for rooms with a lot of sunlight coming in. 4. Built in ethernet port. 5. Remote is a big upgrade from my old TCL. 6. Roku OS rocks. 7. Stand it comes with looks awesome and allows me to have my Samsung ATMOS sound-bar in front of the TV without blocking the view or looking out of place. Cons: I haven't run across any cons yet but will update if I find any. I highly recommend this TV. If you are a TV snob you probably wouldn't ever consider a TCL, but trust me it's as good as any of the Samsung QLED, Sony, and LG options.

First of all for the $200 or so On sale price difference I would recommend going with this 8 series over the 6 series. The picture is truly amazing. Super dark blacks and amazingly bright whites make this tv a no brainer. All the colors are more vibrant and really pop. The sound is even better than my last tv through my soundbar. Dolby vision is really worth having and makes a huge difference in movies that support it. My last tv was hdr but never attained the quality of picture this tv gives me. If you are on the fence just get it. It is a quality tv all the way. I recommend taking all the money you save and putting it into the five year warranty as my last LG tv only lasted two years. It remains to be seen if this TCL will be better but just based on unpacking it the TCL does feel high end for sure. But the piece of mind of the warranty is nice to have.

I liked the look of the 6 series but the 8 series was never actually on at my local best buy. I knew the 8 series was suppose to be much better because of more mini LEDs. Once I got it mounted and started playing with the settings I oddly enough got my best picture out of the dark and sports setting. With movie and normal settings skin tones were less detailed. When you put on sports I saw more detail like stubble and a more detailed colors making it look better. This gets really bright and maybe that is why the details are very sharp. I have two oleds (C6,C9) and do not get the detailed look you get on the 8 series. I find most oled automatic brightness limiter are too aggressive and crush some detail mainly in darker scenes. This TV is very bright and manages to also get dark without haloing around a scene like a campfire at night. When the screen goes black it is very black. Letterboxes are not greyish. I was using a Oppo 203 player on my C9 and DVDs looked pretty bad and I would not watch them because it looked kind of fuzzy and lacking detail. Night scenes in horror movies were tough cause you could not make out what was going on with say a axe murderer chasing people thought the woods. I used the same Oppo 203 on this tcl 8 and it was much better and more watchable. I am not saying bluray quality but you can enjoy it. I bought a display model set for store and after setting it up and going to a sub menu and un-checking a box for store it defaults to it everytime the TV looses a signal to a device or is shut off. I went on Netflix and was really blown away by the Croods. The brightness and details made it look amazing!! Coming from a oled that can reach about 750 nits to a TV that can go to about 1400 nits you will notice the difference. I am very pleased by the tcl 8 so far and have not updated it yet but if anything changes after my updating I will add to my review. Tcl was suppose to release the new version of tcl 8 by the end of 2029 but maybe it is coming out soon. I will be looking for it as it is suppose to have a additional 4000 plus zones and be all around better.

This is a wonderful TV replacing a 50" 4K Sharp TV. I thought the previous TV was beautiful already but this one handily is a cut above. I've waited a few months to post this review to have more experience with the TV. The first thing you'll want to do though is to calibrate it; straight out of the box the image is crazy bright; too bright in fact! In a dark room, a fully white screen made me want to squint. I see how this TV would fit into a brightly lit room with little problem. I bought the Disney DVD "WOW" for calibration and after I was done, it initially looked really dark...but that's only because of how bright it was. After a few days I didn't even notice the brightness difference. However, there is a MARVELOUS difference when it comes to colors. Everything feels good, the blacks are super black, and the various picture options allow you to enable/disable video smoothing to your preference; especially useful to reduce lag when gaming on the TV. I love the Roku interface as it's really easy to navigate, boots up fairly quickly (about 5 seconds), and is really responsive. I cannot comment on sound as I have a surround sound system hooked up to it. I've only encountered one issue with the TV which is NOT deal breaker for me (or even worth dropping a star on the review for): The TV panel does have some visible color 'fade' when you start to angle your view over 30 degrees. What that means is that the screen starts to 'wash out' when you are viewing it from extreme angles like if you are peeking at the TV from another adjacent room. Granted, this is less pronounced compared to my previous TV, but it is there so don't freak out if you notice it. What that really means is that for optimal viewing, you'll want to have the viewing audience 'centered' in front of the TV and not trying to view the TV at super wide angles. From my personal testing/taste, this is about 30 degrees on either side without it becoming noticeable under normal viewing conditions. So yes, this is a wonderful TV, things look very very very nice on it. I haven't swooned over a TV like this since I bought my first 720p TV in 2003.

Watch streaming 4k movies, news, youtube... significant upgrade from Vizio M658G1 which started showing board issues and then panel issue after 6 months of use. Some motion handling issues exist which I didn't see on Vizio. But the brightness and color punch at HDR and Dolby Vision is worth the upgrade. I felt color always muted while watching on Vizio. TCL has Dark, Normal, Bright and Brighter settings..use brighter setting during day time with window shades open...no issues. TCL is well built not made with plastic but metal frame. Downside it is heavy. I have a 75" too which is super heavy. Color calibration app can be used via Pixel phones only which is a bummer. I got it for the lowest sale price 50% off. So worth the upgrade...won't recommend to buy at regular price.. Waiting for eARC update..

We purchase a Samsung QLED 90 last year for the living room because we expected it to perform better in a bright room. We absolutely love it! We were looking for a larger TV for the bedroom, which we watch a lot of movies in. Having consider a second Samsung and reaching OLED TVS, we heard about the TCL 8 series and it’s micro LED tech with 3,000 nit brightness. Long story short the TCL was $1000 for 65 and all the reviews we read Ca posted it to SAMSUNG in picture quality. At that price we made the jump and are so god we did!! In some ways the TCL beats our 3,500 Samsung, especially when the content is Dolby HDR!!! Wow!! It’s insane. The Samsung wins hands down with TV operating system. I wish the TCL wasn’t a ROKU based TV.. Maybe they will develop their own someday is we have problems connecting to our Atmos LG sound bar. All and all we love the TCL and can recommend it!!!
