All I can say is "What an Awesome T.V. this is" I thought the picture will be somewhat diluted due to it's massive size but I was soo wrong! Picture quality can hold it's own with most top name brand QLEDs and in some cases better. Most of all the price for it's size...Yes, you can get top name brands for the same size for double the price and even 4X more. I love this TV and I'm not looking back!

I bought mine from Best Buy because of my credit card points and to me it was well worth it. The next best deal for a 98” was Samsung and that as $13k at my local Video Only and I doubt I would’ve seen $4.5k more TV out of it. Sonys is $20k+. So for those complaining about the cost, I think it’s very reasonable. 97”+ TVs come with a premium.
The displays are harder to make and yielding a large display without defects is difficult for manufacturers.
It was either getting an 85” display and a 120” projector screen to scratch my itch. So I opted for this. In the long run install on one TV is a lot cheaper.
The screen itself is very bright. My TV sits close to two sets of French doors, so it can get pretty bright in the room and I can see the TV perfectly fine. That was one of my biggest concerns for a TV this size.
The picture is very nice! I think the guy complaining about wasn’t streaming 4K Ultra HD content. For a TV this size, the pixels are larger so it won’t look the same if you compared it to watching 4K content on a 65”. You need really good content to make this TV shine. If you’re watching regular HD content it won’t look that nice. Imagine blowing up your 1080p content from a 65” to 98”. It’s not going to look that great. So content will be important. I signed up for Netflix’s 4K ultra upgrade because of this. Just to get the full potential out of this display. When I watch YouTube content I set it at 2160p.
Also, I don’t know why TCL doesn’t highlight this but the speaker system built into the TV is made by Onkyo. The sound system almost sounds like a sound bar built in to the TV. It’s definitely one of best TV speakers I’ve heard on any TV. I’m guessing it’s part of the reason why this TV weighs so much.
Google TV is very responsive. I actually liked the layout and I’m coming from years of using a fire stick.
The only 3 negatives about the TV to me are 1) remote, which to me doesn’t feel premium for a TV that costs this much, 2) the TV stand itself…seems a bit flimsy and 3) the amount of energy this TV consumes. Other than that, this is a fantastic display for people on the fence about it. Especially, if you wanted a projector. I had a few 1080p projectors in fully built theater rooms. I downsized to a smaller house, so I had to compromise and give up a theater room. And I can honestly say with this TV, I don’t miss it much.
I’ll probably end pairing this TV with the Sony HT-A9.

I really wanted to love this tv. But I’m just on the fence so far on what I’m going to do. The TV went on sale for $4999, and felt like that was reasonable for the size of the tv. I was going a “85 Vizio P QC11 that I loved. I also own a 77in LG OLED in my basement. But to get to the point . I think the tv is above average.. Game mode looks pretty good. I think a little too dark at times. I watched the basketball game and the close up shots look pretty good.. but my biggest issue is the detail of the tv looks fuzzy in the background. It’s captures what it’s focusing on but the background looks kind of bad. The colors are ok but could be better. Overall I think this is a 3.5 star tv. I got a $8000 tv for $5000 so it’s hard to make a decision if I will keep it or return it. But words of advice a 98in doesn’t look like a huge difference from a 95in. I wouldn’t but this above the LG 83in OLED which is around the same price.

Pros
* Can’t beat the bang for the buck ($4,999 on Black Friday for me)
* Better blacks than expected
* Built-in apps work well
Cons
* Width of legs
* 2 people to lift
Pro-tips/add-on’s
* See if you’re okay with the built-in apps before thinking about an AppleTV, Roku, or FireTV Stick … you’ll probably be satisfied with GoogleTV.
* Vizio Elevate Atmos Soundbar - it’s great. Search the Caleb Dennison review on Digital Trends. Just plugged it in. Truly zero menu-ing and set up. TV recognized it and defaulted to it automatically. Probably true if any soundbar with this TV. Didn’t even put batteries in the soundbar remote, the TV’s remote automatically controlled it.
* Go ahead and pay for delivery & set up if you don’t have help or it’s not on the first floor
Helpful Info
* Fits down a 90° angle basement staircase when taken out of the box
* Cabinet measurements in pic (14’W x 24”H x 22”D)

Wow. This TV is huge and it will be the only TV I will ever buy now since it is like watching at the theatres. In fact, I will buy one or two more but the cheaper version since those will be in the spare room. Forget about the 85". If you like big this is the one for you. Sharpness truly depend on the movie at 4K and up. Tv is a factor but quality of the video is the important piece of sharpness.
The photo is compared to my 65" Sony tv. True downgrade from Sony to TCL but it is worth it because Sony is out of my league at 98"

Well i didnt think it was possible but picture quality is as good as the modern samsungs qleds even tho its not mini led for this price you cant notice a difference the blacks go very deep. But tcl supplied software is still old and hdr/ dolby vision sucks keep it off. In sdr mode it looks great. Really bright have to use 4k or at minimum HD sd 720p content will not look good screens to big.

I went from 85” Sony X950H to TCL 98R754 and went all in. I was excited when Sony came out with the 100” but couldn’t quite pull the trigger on its price. I was not a fun of TCL brand previously but Black Friday and under 5k. It is definitely an upgrade not just in size but in overall performance. I would rate this TV closer to 4.5 stars not quite 5 because it still has the DSE in a small area but definitely not as noticeable as the Sony. Out of the box with a few minor adjustment the picture quality is almost perfect. Im glad and went all in and took a chance on TCL. I am looking to eventually pair this monster TV with Kaleidescape to complete my home theater. Overall fully satisfied with my purchase so far. Nice job TCL!

Great TV, great price, great size, and really great picture. Never thought I would own TCL but I’m now a proud owner.
Put this in place of my 75” Samsung QLED and the picture is comparable, actually a bit brighter. Love it.

Coming from a Sony 85” X900F this 98” blows it out of the water when I bought the Sony I also bought a 65” tcl and they were very comparable in every way.
So I knew when this 98” came out that it would be up to par and suit my needs. Ps5 looks and plays amazing. Movies have no stutter at all, the processor keeps up with motion beautifully.
For the price tag and size you can’t beat this tv.
Pull the trigger no more thinking! Amazing
The tv also is equipped with the best built in speakers I have ever heard for a tv, onkyo Dolby atmos so if you don’t have a surround sound or bar you won’t need one. I myself paired it with definitive technology towers

This is a fantastic TV. Coming from a Z9J, I am very happy with this TV. HDR brightness can just about reach about 800 of the 1000 nit level most movies are mastered in. I found you have to enable Tone Mapping as it was defaulted off, and made the picture appear dark. Out of the box settings are pushed, so I purchased a Spears and Munsel disc. After calibrating with that disc, I found the contrast at 83 and black level at 52 was the key to keeping it from crushing blacks and clipping whites. Colors are spectacular, and the Smart HDR setting makes even bland SDR movies look much better. Those complaining about picture quality need to disable Intelligent picture, and go through the settings. Out of the Box its just average. After adjustments, it is fantastic.
Sound is average, but anyone with a 98" TV is most likely to use a soundbar or AVR anyway, Considering the price of the competition, this TV should make anyone happy.
You can also use two 85" mounts side by side to catch more studs and save some money over the hard to find 850mm VESA mounts (see photo).

Overall, I'm super pleased with this massive 98" TV from TCL, and I think it punches well above its weight class in terms of the price point to screen size ratio here. I recently purchased this model for my basement that I renovated to turn into a home theater, and was looking at some short-throw projection options, but preferred an actual television given that there is a bit of ambient lighting in the space.
I have been very impressed with this TV's picture quality and feature set, particularly given the price point. I managed to get this on sale for just about $5,000, which is about a third of the price of the 98" option that Samsung offers and is on par with pricing on certain 77" OLED models. For that price, this is a steal, and the immersive experience of a massive 98" screen is really unrivaled.
I did a good amount of research before deciding on this model and, in my opinion, some of the criticisms of this TV are a result of the user having improper expectations. I have an OLED in my living room as my primary TV and, to nobody's surprise, this QLED model does not have the same perfect blanks and contrast that my OLED does. That being said, it certainly holds its own, and I have not experienced any distracting blooming when viewing movies or watching sports. There is some minor blooming around subtitles if you're watching foreign language content, but outside of that, you'd have to really be looking for it to notice anything. The colors on this TV are bright and vivid, and I have found the HDR performance to be really solid.
I also love that this model supports both the Dolby Vision and HDR10+ formats. As someone with a 4K Blu-ray collection, it is great to have both HDR formats supported to get the most out of my discs.
The sound performance on this is okay, but I'd highly recommend at least a soundbar to get sound worthy of the screen size experience here.
The Google TV operating system runs smoothly and I haven't noticed any significant performance issues.
Overall, I'm very impressed with this TV and the performance that TCL has delivered on this size panel at this price point. Movie nights got a serious upgrade when I purchased this!

Coming from a front projector, I knew that a 65” or even 75” would work in my new room, and it was a normally lit room, so I didn’t want to have the dim picture of a projector in this room. Looking at really big TVs, I found equally big price tags from the “big names” I saw this TCL and looked at the company a little. Turns out they ARE one of the big guys, and have a big following, so I decided to give it a try.
Wow, am I impressed! Name a picture metric and this TV impresses: Brightness, colors, great blacks, it even has decent sound! Blooming was a concern with a moderate number of dimming zones (around 200 if I recall correctly), but it goes to show that great processing can make for great backlight control, as I noticed very little blooming on test patterns, and none in normal viewing.
The Google operating system, while not as easy as Roku, is cool in how it shows you shows to watch right up front rather than having to launch an app to find stuff to watch. Of course, Google assistant built-in makes controlling stuff in my home super-easy.
I am not a gamer, but my son hooked up his new Xbox to it and said that HDMI 2.1 with all the advanced gaming features are the real deal! I did watch him play a game at 120Hz and it was surreally cool looking!!
One note on setup: GET HELP! The delivery was easy and quick, and enlisting the help of a few buddies made the setup and install much more pain free. It’s cool how you can “disassemble” the box, and there is still a piece of Styrofoam in the bottom-middle, supporting the TV. This allows you to put the legs on without laying the TV down…Pretty Slick!
Being thousands less than the competition, and not much more than an 83” OLED, while being 15” BIGGER means this set’s a winner in my eyes.
