Tired of cookie cutter superheroes? To be fair, this movie didn't do well at the box office...but with so many great characters in this movie it's worth your time, plus they have a good number of memorable one liners. The actors and stoyline really make these characters shine and they go beyond the typical one dimensional formula. Some wont get the humor as Peter Weller plays not for laughs but rather dead pan portrayal make Buckaroo Banzai, the neurosurgeon, rock star, astro physicist, a great hero.

I have loved this film since I first saw it in the theater in 1984. This new blu looks and sounds fantastic, and the new interviews with the cast and crew are wonderful. Plus it has all of the extras from the way-back-when DVD release. Amazing.

This movie is great, has amazing FUNNY lines, fast action, really sets a nice pace. The sound is great, can't say enough good things about the sound, it has what you expect for the money you spend on a disk of this magnitude, the money they spent was well placed. You get high quality content. The CGI is so realistic you forget its CGI and just fall into the story and lose yourself in the emotion and staging of the drama and action. great actors. all stars in this one.

    Classic 80's Cult Film

You will probably either love it or hate it. The fashion and hairstyles are SO 80's, as is the feel. Is it sci-fi? Drama? Action? Comedy? A little bit of all those things, but it's the combination that creates the magic. May need a scorecard to keep up with all the characters.

This movie is a cult classic. It has become a rare movie to find, too. My DVD was blu-ray and I had to search a number of stores to find it. I would have preferred a plain old DVD, because the price is cheaper. Nevertheless, I was able to GET the movie at Best Buy, and who knows how much it will cost in the future.

Fun watch and the SteelBook is sweet. You either love or hate Buckaroo Banzai and I enjoyed watching this movie. The price is right and if you like (now) classic campy get this one.

Ahead of its time, but now a little long in tooth

I first saw this film decades ago in one of my local movie theatres that catered to the Saturday matinee crowd. I also saw other such quirky films ,e.g., The Adventures of Remo Williams, around that time in my life. While this special edition has many extras (some of which are simply underwhelming) the real pleasure is seeing this film in a beautiful HD format. While the movie's plot is borderline nonsensical, the true joy of this film lies in it functioning as an introduction to a saga already underway, not unlike the first Star Wars movie. The plot assumes that you know about the Banzai Institute, Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems, etc. and it spends little time explaining what they are and why the main characters are the way that they are. Seeing Peter Weller, Jeff Goldblum, Ellen Barkin and John Lithgow (at his scene-chewing best) makes this film and its pseudo-science fiction plot enjoyable and a real treat. However, despite the fact that this movie is racially diverse is its casting, there are elements that paradoxically are ethnically insensitive and somewhat dated. This film, while ahead of its time, it is a little long in the tooth and its eccentricities (some endearing, some aggravating) render it more of a failed experiment more than a visionary work of art that fans of it have asserted it be. That being said, given the rise of Nerd culture and Hollywood's current deficit of new ideas, it may be time to dust off Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers and give them a second chance at making the world safe from the forces of evil. Jersey Strong indeed!

This is a little appreciated gem. While not exactly for every taste, it has a great blend of nuttiness and social satire. Sit down with your popcorn and enjoy.

This is a film that defies easy summation or categorization, an off-the-wall action sci-fi comedy adventure that is quirky and off-beat. It is truly unique, and definitely recommended.

I grew up hearing quotes from this movie and after finally seeing it, I see the 80s cheese appeal it brings to the sci-fi genre.

Not only do we get an amazing transfer of this cult classic but, hours of bonus features. After buying several Shout/Scream Factory Blurays I have come to the conclusion that this is a company composed of fans of the films they release. The Transfer is great as well as the sound. There are Hours of bunus features and a cool reversible cover just in case you enjoy the original artwork. This film is an acquired taste but, a blast if you don't take it too seriously just as the film it's self doesn't take it too seriously. By the end of your veiwing with a open mind you will be humming the theme song in no time. It's amazing how much of the original cast and crew they got for the documentaries and interviews for such a underground film that a lot of people don't even realize exists. This would get five stars but, I took a star off as the second disc with most of the bonus features are on a DVD versus another Bluray. It's nit picky but, I like consistency and would of liked the same resolutions on both discs. I also enjoy Blurays due to them being scratch resistant and thus a star is lost. If your a fan of this film you should own this already and if your new pick it up anyway as you will at least enjoy the theme song:)
