I bought this CD on sale, but from what I have heard it is a fairly decent disc. Most people have heard the singles that were played like crazy when this CD came out (99 Problems and Dirt Off Your Shoulder). I would say this is worth the money.

December 4th:A song about Jay-Z's childhood. Great intro IMO What more can I say:Good beat, good lyrics.Solid. Encore:One of the more upbeat on the album, fabulous. Change clothes:IMHO there is a lot to improve. Dirt off your shoulder:In one word, outstanding.Great beat, lyrics, and rhyming makes this track my favorite on the album. Threat:Good, but the background trash-talker ruins the most. Moment of clarity:I think Hov is trying to match 50 Cent's beat. Not bad, but I think Jay has to leave the beat to 50. 99 problems:Extremely fun track to listen to, features the phrase "I got 99 problems but a b---h ain't one". Interlude:Not enough of Hov imo.. Justify my thug:Mike Jackson beat lolz...still good thugh Lucifer:Kanye produced this, good beat, especially good melody. Allure:This one didn't really catch my attention, because the beat and rhythm really wasn't Hov's style. My 1st song:Simply put,MASTERPIECE except the little wierd ending.Jay gives shoutouts and RIP's.

The Black Album, I think it was his retirement album if I remember correctly. Obviously he came back though. One of the top 3 best Jay-Z albums IMO.

This was an unforgettable moment in hip hop: the retirement of the gifted Jay-Z. After blessing us fans with tight albums and cememting his position as one of the greatest of all time, he decides that he's said everything he could possibly say and that it's time to retire. With The Black Album, I was kind of expecting a 5 star classic. It is one? Well, you'll find out in this review. Album Highlights: Plenty to name here. December 4th, What More Can I Say, Encore, Moment of Clarity, Justify My Thug, Lucifer, and My 1st Song. Production: Thumbs up. Lyrics and Subject Matter. Thumbs up. As usual, Jigga is on point with the lyrics and subject matter. Originality: Thumbs up, but slightly. The Last Word: You'd think that with everything being thumbs up that this would make an easy candidate for 5 stars. Sadly, it isn't, but it's an EXCELLENT album, and it's a great way for Jigga to exit the game. Even after his retirement, hip hop seems MAD WEAK without him(even though we still have my favorite MC Nas, and others). I truly think it's his last and I wouldn't be surprised if he returns to bless us with a new album. Recommended.

By 03, it seemed HOV had accomplished all their was to accomplish in music. So he retired, and released the classic, The Black Album..In 06 he returned with the fluffy Kingdom Come, but in late-07 he restored all of his hard earned acclaim, by dropping American Gangster The Black has classic such as, December 4th What More Can I Say Encore Dirt off Your Shoulders Threats Moment of Clarity 99 Problems My 1st Song yup 9 out of 14 of these songs are CLASSICS
