If you can only see one version of The Hobbit...

I'd been waiting for the extended edition of this movie ever since I saw it in the theater. I own all the rest of the extended editions and Peter Jackson never disappoints with the additional scenes to further enhance the story and the addition of amazing bonus features and documentaries on the development and production of the film. This is the only version of this movie you should possess in your home video collection. Best to order it from Best Buy.com, because I have yet to see it in the store!

3-D not bad, could be better.

There's no point in going into the movie, so I'm going to the 3-D experience. Personally, I have seen better 3-D than this. Namely the next two movies in the series. With that said, it was not bad. It was shot in 3-D. But my opinion is, if the inter-ocular distances aren't compensated for, the 3-D experience can be week. And I think Peter Jackson realized this when making the next two installments of the series. But as I said, this is not bad at all. If you've been looking to see this in 3-D try to get it cheap, because they will try to gouge you just for the title name. And in my case, I got us for $17.99, which I thought wasn't too bad.

    Extra scenes are very amusing

I have been a fan of Tolkien since I was 9. I loved the extra scenes, skinny dipping Dwarves whats not to love. I have an active matrix 3D PlasmaTV, and I feel that the 3D experience was worth spending a few more dollars for this movie. It is not the 3D or the additional scenes that makes the movie, the movie stands on its own. The Extra scenes are worth watching, just for the chuckles if nothing else and the 3D adds to the experience.

    The Hobbit 3D

I was torn between getting the 3D theatrical release or the 3D extended edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I know inevitably once all of the movies have been released there will be a collector set with all of the bells & whistles. Best Buy had the 3D theatrical set for $15 which made my decision an easy one. The quality of the 3D is decent (Smaug delivers it better) & if you are a fan of 3D I think you'll be happy with the quality. If I end up with all 3 theatrical editions in 3D and get the extended edition box set when it finally comes out I'll be content. These types of movies are always subject to double & triple dipping by the studios so I like to be smart with my money.

THE HOBBIT PART 1 IS FAR BETTER THAN THE 2ND ONE; IT'S ALWAYS BETTER TO ACQUIRE THE EXTENDED VERSION ESP IF IT'S A GOOD MOVIE; WHAT QUANTIFIES A GOOD MOVIE WILL VARY FR ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER; THE CINEMATOGRAPHY & STORY LINE IS EXCELLENT PERSONALLY, THE MOVIE IS BETTER THAN THE BOOK; THIS IS A RARE THING TO HAPPEN. PETER JACKSON & CO HAD DONE A GREAT JUSTICE TO THE BOOK YOU LEARN TO APPRECIATE THE STORY BETTER; FAR ENTERTAINING & SUPERB COMPUTER-CINEMA EFFECTS

I loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy and had high hopes for The Hobbit. With Peter Jackson at the helm, I was confident I wouldn't be disappointed. I originally saw the film on the big screen and walked away extremely pleased. So much so, I knew I'd eventually own it on Blu-Ray. The film is loaded with beautiful scenery and fantastic special effects. The acting is solid. It's a bit long, but is a very enjoyable movie. The only downside is waiting for the sequels.

This is going to be a great prequel to the "Lord of the Rings" movies. In the opening scene, you already have that tie in but, make no mistake, this movie has a different feel and approach than the Ring series even though it is by the same director. There is almost a comic feel and, considering what comes in the book, I'm wondering how that will play out in the last movie. Still, it is epic and grand with great cinematography and wonderful acting and effects.

Grew up on Tolkien's works. Was looking forward to this with great anticipation since the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. I loved Martin Freeman's portrayal of Bilbo Baggins. I also enjoyed Jacksons inclusion of a storyline to fill in for all those occasions that Gandalf left the party. Most of the filler is roughly faithful to Tolkien's notes, and I felt this distinguished the movie from the book well enough to add some interest for me. I did not care for the highly improbable and extremely campy fight and escape scenes from "Goblin Town". IMHO, Jackson reached into "Lucas Territory" with his handling of some aspects of the film. Still, highly recommendable BluRay set.

For the most part this is a great movie. However, the first 30 minutes really drags on. The introduction of Radagash is an odd choice but he is a colorful character. The only other big issue I have with this movie is geography. We have a scene of orks in a forest and then cut to the dwarfs running across open ground in the hills. Then, magically, we are in a valley. I'm all for showing off the great New Zealand landscape but let's have some consistency. If the chase is indeed lasting 10s of miles then the musical queues of urgency are misleading at best. But if you take it for what it is then you'll enjoy this movie. The second one, however, is much better.

This is a great movie, although I'm sure it's received some mixed reviews. It involves several main characters, more so than the previous LOTR movies. The story is great and ties in well to LOTR, and sets up the next movie very well. The cinematics are great except for Azog's character, which just looks slightly comic book-ish. Radagast also seems like a "Jar Jar Binks" like character, but we'll see if his character becomes more involved in the next movie ;)

This is a fantasy action movie pre-quel / sequel that fits my liking. It has a bit of magic with horrible creatures that add to the intrigue of the dwarf survivors' quest to return to their castle to avenge the death of their King and to reclaim the King's riches and his kingdom. I suppose that the viewing public requires some gruesome battle scenes so this certainly should fill that requirement. I got this BD movie on sale and it's a keeper!

Even before the Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings were known for their extended editions adding much to the table. This is no exception to that rule. The exted edition of the hobbit brings several new scenes to the original movie while also containing a large selection of bonus features. This individual movie extended edition is great for those who don't wanna buy the full extended collection at once.

3D scenes are well done especially in the caverns of the Orcs. Bills character was well done. Too many character to get behind any of them to any degree (except Bilbo and a couple of the Dwarfs). Story itself starts out slow but by midway through one starts to get captivated in the action. Price for DVDS, Blu-Ray or even combo releases is just too much at times. In this day and age the technology behind making these disc's is not worth $30+. But this was worth the $$ just can't justify that for other movies. In a year or two this movie will be $12 or less in sale bins. Might be worth waiting until the trilogy is (or extended versions) released

I love the extended version of the Hobbit and all 3 of The Lord of the rings movies. It gives you a much deeper story. I do realize that they have to shorten them a bit for theaters but this is how they should be.

I have been long a fan of Tolkien and was enthralled when the Lord of the Rings Trilogy was made, of which i have the three movie extended edition set. The Hobbit follows in the same tradition of a grand epic that is the back story for The Lord of The Rings. I have both Hobbit movies in the extended editions and will get the third as soon as it comes out in that edition. A worthwhile addition to anyone's film library.

It has been a long time since I read "The Hobbit", but I don't remember it being quite so fun. The dinner scene with the dwarfs and all the chaos they create was hilarious. Very creative, lots of fun. The detail in the costumes, hair styles, and weapons of the dwarfs, again, very interesting and creative. I have watched this movie several times now and continue to see other details I missed the first time around.

    A Great Prequel

This movie is a Great Prequel, it really sets up the story line - who the characters are and their relationship between each other, the plot and all of its drama and adventure, and finally, the infamous cliff hanger . . . a part two to this Prequel! Can't wait to see part two. Like the other Lord of the Rings movies, this one is very detailed, lengthy, but intriguing! A must add to your Lord of the Rings Collection!

As with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson will release extended editions of each of his Hobbit movies. While some may think this already long movie doesn't need to be extended, I found the pacing and flow of this new version to be much more enjoyable. Most of the new scenes add depth and understanding to the characters. The only downside is the packaging, which is not as great as the LOTR Extended Editions.

My girlfriend had never seen the Hobbit Trilogy so we went to Best Buy hoping they would have the Blu-Ray Trilogy deal that we were able to get for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, but unfortunately they didn't have it. We ended up buying each DVD separately and thankfully each DVD has been great quality and my girlfriend has really loved each movie.

I saw this movie in the theater and I did not have high expectations for it. But it was much better than anticipated. Sure it did not follow the book, but I see it as a different version of the Hobbit. It was fun, and funny at times. It seems that the Hobbit used a lot more CG than the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, and sometimes it just doesn't look great. But overall, cool story, plot, and plenty of action.
