This is the 3rd movie in a series of 4 "Hunger Games" films. Like many (most?) movie series based on Book Trilogies, the studio has turned the final book into 2 Movies - the better to fill the story out. And, of course, to provide greater earnings.... Better half has read the books, and thoroughly enjoys the movies. As an "outsider" (not having read the books), I have also found the movies enjoyable, although in a Big Loud Dumb Popcorn Flick way. But then, am NOT a member of the "Target Audience," for either the books OR the films. As a Blu-ray, this makes a pleasant viewing experience, with sufficient action to show off a Home Theater. The DVD and UV formats provide flexibility, and there seems to be a nice selection of Extras. Fans of the series should be pleased. Others may want to wait until it shows up on Your Favorite Streaming outlet. (Ticking "Yes" on "Recommend" as the Technical Quality of the Blu-ray seems fine. But don't really know any friends who follow the series - although wife might!)

A different movie than the two previous ones. This is actually a fascinating movie that's more about political machinations and propaganda than heroism. Katniss and fellow victor Finnick are suffering from depression and PTSD. She continues to show compassion and caring along with an awkward confusion about how to interact with most people. She is definately a reluctatnt hero, wracked with guilt and regret. Haymitch continues to show a suprisingly shrewd mind and talent to understanding human nature. Hemsworth is still drop dead gorgeous and His Gale is showing signs of a creeping judgemental arrogance. The actor playing Peeta, Josh hutcherson, is doing a wonderful job. Even when peeta is on screen and protesting the growing rebellion, his seems hollowed out and empty. I am lookingd forward to the third film

Many critics were negitive with their review on the movie Mockingjay 1. I saw it opening night at my local theater, and it was packed that night, every seat sold! When you have the opportunity to view a movie this way, it gives an arena type feel to the entertainment. We all cheered and clapped and shouted!! It was a great way to spend an evening. I loved the movie. Commented to everyone I knew that Mockingjay 1 was far and away better than the first two films. Perhaps, others didn't like it because there were no games in this segment. Don't let that full you, there was plenty of action! I also felt this movie followed the book a bit closer than the other two. If you liked the first two movies you will like, if not love, Mockingjay 1!!! I can't wait for Mockingjay II, it's going to be awesome!

I really love the products and the service I get when I come to your store. So what if you feel I do not qualify for your credit card program. I am pleased that you consider me as a "Elite member with a card. It is a big + because I can now have access to extended dates for sales and returns, which include other perks. Thank you Best Buys. I JUST LOVE ALL THE THINGS I PURCHASED FORM MY BEST BUYS. Now The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 was fantastic. Blue Ray give the best in picture quality and the sound is great. So now what am I to do. My old dvd's are history. I can't look at anything that is not in Blue Ray. You have spoiled me. Now I must watch everything with high quality high definition and surround sound . So far I hae purchased about four movies in Blu-Ray-DVD-Digital, 3D

A Bridge to the Last Movie

When I saw this movie at the theater I left underwhelmed and disappointed. However, I decided to buy it on blu ray anyway because I have all the other movies and will purchase the final one also. When I received the blu ray, I watched it to see how it looked and sounded and was somewhat astounded that I became engrossed in the movie and how good it was. It is hard to appreciate a movie that is a setup for the next one because it leaves you hanging and somewhat underwhelmed. My opinion changed totally after watching it on blu ray and I actually have watched it several times and notice something I missed in each viewing. I highly recommend this movie. The blu ray has superb audio and video quality and the storyline is excellent and absorbing. Buy it - you won't be disappointed.

This film is very close to the book. Some may say that its boring because theres no action but if your a true fan you will appreciate it as the build up to the finale that it was meant to be. Do i agree that they split it into two parts, not really but now that they did they at least did it justice and keeping it very close to the book. I loved it because they kept it realistic, in a real rebellion you wouldnt have action everyone 5 minutes, there planning and trauma and i loved the way the portray it. The action is very planned and in perfect parts of the movie. I liked how they focused on Katniss and that trauma thats shes been through after surviving two Hunger Games amd having her partner ripped apart from her. It has amazing acting from all the actors, i would say some of their best acting in the franchise, but no one compares to Lawrence in each film she shines more and more. Its a great build up for the finale i loved it i hope you do as well.

Same product as mass release - in a better case.

To clarify, since the title portion was character constrained: Unlike some exclusive releases, this release is exactly the same as the mass release, as it should be. That is all parts are included. It's just in a MUCH nicer Steelbook case - official "Steelbook", not the somewhat cheaper "Metalpaks" retailers sometimes use. As usual, it took Best Buy a couple tries to deliver me one undamaged, but I'm very satisfied with the product. It even has a separate disc hub, one on the inside of the case front, one on the inside of the case back, which is greatly preferred over the newer extra tall disc stacking hubs or awkward dual disc hubs staggered on the same side of the case, where you also have to remove the top disc to get to the bottom. Glad they went back to the traditional method.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay was very enjoyable, although not what I had expected. I've only read the first book but I was expecting a full on action movie again. Instead I got a look at the human struggle in the face or war and the struggles to rebel against oppression. Consider Mockingjay a setup for the final act and it does a good job of that. We see how much things are changing in Panem. A spark of hope is becoming a fire as people stand up against the evils of the Capitol. We get to meet some new and interesting characters and spend a little time with old favorites. This was originally expected to be the final movie but I think the producers of Mockingjay did a great job of stretching out the story without making anything feel unnecessary or forced. It doesn't feel like a "money grab" on the part of Lionsgate. It feels like we have a story worth telling. I saw the movie in the theater three times and will be watching it at home many more.

    All About the Kat(niss)

It’s all about Katniss. She’s the voice and image of the Revolution against the evil President Snow of Panem. It’s mostly a propaganda battle between the two sides as each side intercepts the other’s broadcasts and inserts their own messages for their intended audiences. But there is also armed conflict as Snow tries to bomb District 13, the rebel base, out of existence. The rebels need to respond, but they can’t attack Panem’s capital district until they fulfill Katniss’ wish to save her Hunger Game partner, Peta, from the capital, where he was taken after being captured in the previous installment (“Catching Fire”) of this movie series. The secret mission to save Peta appears undone when President Snow reveals that he knows it is taking place. Surprisingly, the rebels succeed in extracting Peta, but he’s not what he seems (spoiler alert). Katniss is endangered, and this sets the stage for the upcoming finale.

A Decent Start to the Ending

The final novel in Suzanne Collins' series was the trilogy's weakest, so it's perhaps no surprise that the first "Mockingjay" film lacks some of the flair and excitement of the previous entries to the projected cinematic quartet. The film does a workmanlike job of showing Katniss's ambivalence about her role as symbol, rebel, and freedom fighter and shows that the rebels -- under Commander Coin-- are nearly as cynical and manipulative as President Snow. Sic transit gloria. As in the novel, Peeta's brainwashing seems more a plot device that an emotional dilemma for Katniss, and the filmmaking crew is pretty much forgettable. But there is some tension (Capital's bombardment) and a fair amount of action. Jennifer Lawrence is quite good, and there is also poignancy in viewing Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance. Bring on the fourth movie! In sum, this film is a serviceable setup for the final movie in the series.

I'm a big fan of epic widescreen films, especially the roadshow films from the late '50's and early '60's. Even though I haven't read the Suzanne Collins series "The Hunger Games", I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the film series; they have that "epic" quality about them. I saw MOCKINGJAY, PART 1 in a theater and was lost in it from start to finish. The high-definition image rivals the theatrical projection image in every respect. I suggest getting the Blu-ray set simply for all of the extras, especially the deleted scenes. After watching how much filmmaking has evolved since I learned the basics in college I know I'd be a "fish out of water" in today's environment. The "Making of" documentaries are worth the price of this set alone.

    The Rebellion Continues

Mockingjay, Part 1 is the 3rd installment of the popular Hunger Game series. In this episode, Luke, excuse me I mean Katniss, discovers just how evil the Empire, excuse me I mean the Capitol, can be, as arch villain Darth Vader, excuse me I mean President Snow, exterminates his own people in Districts 12 and 13. As the symbol and passion of the rebellion, Katniss leads the common people in opening their eyes and standing up to the injustice all around them. Look for an abbreviated appearance of the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman in this, his last film. May the Mockingjay be with you!

Perhaps if The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hadn't been such a generally exciting and well done second chapter in this supposed "trilogy," the flaws of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 wouldn't be so pronounced. This is an oddly static offering, one that admittedly has a number of really interesting elements, but which never works up much momentum or (even more importantly) emotional heft. Fans of the franchise will no doubt be willing to (at least largely) forgive the film its shortcomings, but The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 already has its work cut out for it. Technical merits are very strong and the supplemental package is well done, and with caveats noted, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 comes Recommended.

This movie was really cool, when combined with the second part, it may actually be better than the novel they were based on. The steel book case is awesome, I always like the exclusive cases. However, I was completely impressed with the featurette on the making of the film. This amazing special feature ran well over 2 hours, and showcased every aspect of the detail and work that went into the production of this movie. I can honestly say that when I Watch the movie, I will have a greater appreciation of the work that went into making it. Without a doubt, I would recommend anyone interested in The Hunger Games series to buy this, enjoy the movie and watch the featurette.

If you are at all interested in action packed films and the Hunger Games movies, you will love this film. It has everything you expect and more. It left me on the edge of my seat and of course at the end wanting more which of course we all will have to wait for in Part 2 and hopefully more after that. Jennifer Lawrence was made for the part she plays and I can't think of another actress who could have been so convincing. I saw twice movie o the big screen and now have watched it twice on my 57" TV and I always seem to see something I hadn't seen before, If you haven't seen it, buy it now, but make sure you buy the whole series and start from the very beginning,

I like Steelbook cases. Was really looking forward to seeing the movie to complete the movie cycle. Loved seeing the real depiction of the book. Great visual, great story. Like buying movies the day the come out, however work and volunteer stuff keep me too busy. Order movies online and pick them up at the pickup window where super EFFECIENT Jessica was able to provide a high level of support even through the holidays when there were hundreds of different items ranging from TV's speakers, or whatever were staged for pickup. Jessica managed to find 3 Blu RAy movies in what like a disoganized mess in my eyes. Yet she knew where everything was. Kudos to her!

If you're following the "Hunger Games" movies, you have to get this one! I don't usually buy the steelbook version of movies but decided to in this case. Very nice package - eye-catching, to say the least. But it's the film that matters and this is a good one. The blu-ray disc is outstanding and it includes the DVD version and digital copy as well - my preferred formats when buying films, as it gives you the most flexibility for viewing the movie. I finished the book shortly before seeing this and Part 1 ends exactly where I thought it might. I look forward to Part 2 and seeing how the film handles what happens after Part 1 ends!

I'm a fan of the Hunger Games series, and I think this movie continues the story well. The acting is still great, the special effects are well-done, and it's a great story. They probably should have just made a trilogy instead of splitting the third book into two movies, but as long as they're well-done I don't mind that much. As far as the steelbook, it's still high-quality and has good artwork. In addition, they've included the DVD version this time whereas the steelbooks for the previous two movies only contained the Blu-ray. That doesn't particularly matter for me, but it's nice for anyone who still uses DVDs regularly.
