    Setting the story straight

Unfortunately, most of us have grown up with the Tarzan movies based on the 30's and 40's Johnny Weissmuller versions of the stories. Unfortunately, if you've read the books, the Tarzan movies from the 30s and 40s in no way presents the character as portrayed in the books, that is, the un-educated but jungle-wise, caring, sensitive brute versus the well-educated and well-spoken British man-of-the-world. While this version of Tarzan was well-done and photographed, well-played and enjoyable (and a great cast), considering the maturity of the character, it seemed that the characters lacked some depth as well as not providing enough to back-up the committed relationship of John Clayon, Viscount Graystoke and Jane.

I have seen countless of Tarzan movies in my lifetime, from Weissmuller, Scott, Ely etc... and as a kid I was always entertained because I never question the impossible or the laws of physics, you are just entertained...so I watched this newest and latest version through a kids eyes...and again I was entertained...so that will be my suggestion... watch it and enjoy....although I think Samuel Jackson is the most ubiquitous actor right now, commercials movies after movies, too much...but I like Alexander and Robbie very fitting. Storyline verges in playing a little bit historical, not a lot just enough to change the usual poachers motivation, which was always present in all Tarzan's movies....

Being a fan of Tarzan (have seen all iterations), I was really waiting for this one. Indeed, the character is closer to the books than what those films of Johnny Weissmuller were but something does not work (in my opinion). I was hoping for a movie more along the lines of Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, which I considered the best so far (my opinion again) except that I wished for the film to have had more action. Well, the current film took care of that, lots of action. Problem is that it gets carried away with now available CG to the point that it becomes frantic and unbelievable. I guess I got my wish; still, it was entertaining and at the price I paid, well worth it.

A thoroughly modern retelling of Tarzan, a comic character of the 1940’s and 50’s, that is also a celebration of south Africa which is brilliantly acted, accompanied by a high energy sound-track that enhances the story-telling and cinematography that provides a stunning visual experience along with exceptionally realistic sound-effects. The story is tied together by interesting flash-backs of Tarzan’s youth which enhances and adds depth to this stirring saga. The best of Tarzan’s character comes-out on the screen in a wonderful way. You are entertained by stimulating action characters, a proper and good old fashioned romance and lots of movement. Superb-View!

Tarzan is an enjoyable movie to watch with your family & friends. I really like this live action version of Tarzan and the casting is well-done. I love the flashbacks illustrating Tarzan's journey in the Jungle and how he met Jane. The action sequences are amazing for example, Tarzan swinging on the vines with his fellow Apes or him greeting a pack of Lions. There are so many beautiful moments in this movie. You can tell their was a lot of training and conditioning for these roles. Tarzan is no joke. His wife is also a fighter which I love. Overall, I would recommend Tarzan to anyone who enjoys Disney films.

Tarzan in 4K was truly a surprise as the story was told so much better than any movie pre dating. You are also treated to the best visuals i have ever seen for this movie, the 4K picture easily surpassing regular blu-ray or dvd, crisp clear jump off the screen where the action starts from the beginning and lasts to the very end. But don't think that's where this review ends, the audio has been beefed up where every quiet sound is easily heard to the loudest rour from the jungle. An amazing movie that holds your attention and is a must have.

I've always been a Tarzan fan so getting this movie was a must. Good story line and characters and some of the scenery was great, but too much digital stuff put in there that just didn't remotely look real and some things were way over the top silly. I'm sure others would really mark it down for some of the far fetched digital effects but it's Tarzan so I'll let it slide. In some ways the older versions before everything became digital were better because the were doing a lot more stuff actually in the jungle so there were a lot more realistic scenes. Oh ya, this Tarzan call was pretty AWFUL.

It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.

    New take on old story

I was afraid this would be a live action remake of old live action remakes of tarzan but was happy to see it is actually a completely different story not so focused on Tarzans early years but on his return to defending the land of his youth from a new threat from diamond mining and corruption. Movie does a nice job of expanding on Tarzans back story and even throws in a few enemies made between growing up with gorillas and becoming a refined member of high society. 3d effect looks nice particularly in chase and fight scenes in the jungle

I enjoyed the latest Tarzan movie. I have been a Tarzan fan for many years. I own DVDs of most of the Tarzan movies and all the Burroughs books. I enjoyed the quieter, determined and educated Tarzan. I also enjoyed the headstrong and brave Jane. I don’t believe that Samuel Jackson could keep up with Tarzan moving through the jungle. However, I enjoyed his character and he added value to the movie. I would go to see a sequel. DVD worked great. Special features helps to understand how they made the movie.

I was surprised about how much I loved this film from the 4 time Harry Potter director. While not a critical or box office smash, the film for the first time portrays a more realistic version of what a Tarzan growing up in the jungle, raised by Gorillas might look like. Although, there are the over the top action scenes for which you have to suspend your believes, all in all, this is a very entertaining movie. The 3D adds a wanting perspective, particularly in the jungle, and the picture quality and sound are outstanding. Highly Recommended.

This movie was a great addition to the Tarzan movies, in my opinion. Instead of trying to just reboot the originals, we have been gifted a new story in the saga that finds Tarzan returned home and living his life as Lord Greystoke, where he is approached to return to his childhood home under the guise of a guide for a peaceful mission. Once there , betrayal becomes obvious and the adventures ensue. Great movie with a lot of great moments and I highly recommend to any Tarzan fan. Alexander Skarsgard does well as Lord Greystoke/Tarzan.

Interesting telling of the Tarzan Story. The movie has a good plot and great casting. The actors that play Tarzan and Jane did a great job. The only negative thing that I can say is that they applied some sort of filter to the camera during the scenes in Africa. It toned down the colors. I guess they were trying to create a mood but I think it took away from the beauty of the location. They captured some beautiful footage and I would have enjoyed seeing it in its full vibrant color.

I was a little concerned about yet "another" Tarzan movie, but as it turned out, this one was well written and not the average "beginnings" story. Without going into too much detail, Tarzan, now at home in England, must travel back to his Jungle, Jane goes with him (who seems more excited about it than he does). Excellent plot, GREAT bad guy, REALLY hated him. and just barely touched on his origin through a series of flashbacks, just enough to catch you up. I recommend watching it highly.

Oh my goodness this movie was a surprise for me. I thought that Disney was remaking their Tarzan movie live action so I wasn't that interested. Then I opened my eyes and realized that this was NOT that. An interesting movie and I liked that it started with him after he went to civilization. I always liked that part when he was stuck in the 'civil' life.

This great family movie keeps you hooked from the start to the end, I really couldn't see Alexander Skarsgood portraying Tarzan, but he did a fantastic job! He was strong, protective and believable and Margot Robbie was witty, wonderful and charming as Jane. Another surprise was Samuel L Jackson, a step away from his normal strong performances his was Tarzan's witty side-kick that I thoroughly enjoyed. it was such a feel good movie that we've already watched it more than 10 times. Truly one of our favorites.

A surprise HIT !!! While Tarzan's origin was in it...it didn't feel like an origin story. An all new adventure gives it a fresh take. Very well done even the parts that aren't conventional with what we know today. Great movie magic to suspend reality and belief(great apes don't swing through trees)but still what we know and love about Tarzan! Good enough to warrant sequels! This was our favorite movie of the year! Stellar cast, writing, directing, stunts and special effects...this movie for us had it all!

I've been a Tarzan fan since age 7, The Legend of Tarzan did not disappoint me. From the opening music until the last scene, I was thrilled. I appreciated the fact that Tarzan's origin was explained in well-timed flashbacks versus dominating the main story line. I really liked seeing more of a final version of Tarzan's character, then loved seeing how he returns to his old life, embracing his wild nature to save Jane and the congo.
