Got both the Blu-ray and digital versions to augment my collection, great price at Best Buy.

I thought Matt Damon was great! I thought it was a pretty accurate representation of the near future!

This was interesting take on how to survive, at least for a little while, on Mars. Matt Damon did an excellent job portraying an astronaut trying to survive and get rescued from Mars. Novel things like growing food, working on different parts of machines and combining them to help his cause. There are lots of interesting bits tied into the plot that make this movie a bit different than other space movies. I don't want to spoil the ending, but that is enough to watch film. Lastly it is a bit long. I had to pause and come after stretching out my legs!

This 4K Ultra high Definition Disc is very impressive. Immediately with the first scene in the movie you notice the vivid and deep colors of the Mars landscape and the sharpness of the astronauts space suits. The High Dynamic Range is excellent and consistent the entire movie. colors are deep and vivid with no black crush or white blooming.Colors are true and flesh tones look natural. The Atmos sound is immersive and bass is good. The film is also a first rate thriller.

Even if you already had the regular version of The Martian on Blu-ray, you will be really, really happy w/ this upgrade. The extra scenes alone are worth it, but the drastic increase in picture quality with 4K and HDR made this my go-to choice as the first movie to watch after upgrading from a non-4K/non-HDR TV. :)

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring "the Martian" home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney's safe return.

I really enjoyed this movie when it first came out and was anxious to see the extended version. There is about 10 minutes of additional footage and to be honest I couldn't tell what was added. The movie's ending is totally unbelievable but by that time we are rooting for everyone anyway. This is an UHD HDR release. Picture quality is noticeably better than the blu-ray. Truly beautiful. The great things about this set is that you have UHD of both the theatrical and the extended versions AND you get both versions in standard blu-ray as well as extras and a digital copy. Well worth the price if you like this flick.

There have been several movies delving into the fantasy of man landing on and exploring Mars only to be met with some type of disaster (whether man-made or extra-terrestrial). Yet, I believe this one is the best by far. I have not read the book, but the movie certainly makes me want to. The main protagonist's constant efforts to stay alive in the harshest setting possible are a marvel (and uber tense) to watch. I found myself sweating from the suspense at times. The scientific explanations for actions taken and decisions made may not be 100% accurate, but they sounded plausible to this layman. A+++

This movie is great, has amazing FUNNY lines, fast action, really sets a nice pace. The sound is great, can't say enough good things about the sound, it has what you expect for the money you spend on a disk of this magnitude, the money they spent was well placed. You get high quality content. The CGI is so realistic you forget its CGI and just fall into the story and lose yourself in the emotion and staging of the drama and action.

This is a great, fun film. It's a shame that Best Buy decided to stop selling physical media, or I would buy more things like this.

Already had the original version which I enjoyed tremendously. When the extended version came on sale, I could not resist. This is a great, entertaining mom ovie. Lots of terrific performances but the movie basically rests on Matt Damon's shoulders. And he more the handles the load. Also, very believable effects giving this a 'you are there' feel. This is NOT a sci fi movie despite the setting. It is a wonderful showing of day to day application of science and human persistence.

Great movie, 4k unleashes its full video and audio potential. The ATMOS soundtrack is worth the cost.

Ridley Scott and his cast & crew must go on a rescue mission for Matt Damon in a film that tries to realize what would happen if a man got stranded on Mars. The movie has an appropriate “Apollo 13” vibe as the people on Earth try to figure out how to save their man on Mars while the man tries to figure out how to prolong his limited provisions in order to give them time to get to him. It’s solid entertainment throughout and one of Scott’s best films in years!

Perfect its intense its smartly written and its gorgeous to look at do yourself the favor and watch it on a big screen with surround sound cause it will blow you away.

I saw this film in the theater when it first was released. An exceptional story and superb acting. Major star talent and plenty of humor to keep it moving. Matt Damon at his best. This is the steelbook edition with 10 minutes of extra footage. Haven't made it through all the extra features yet because there are a lot. It's a film you can watch over and over. That's a rarity these days with most of the cinematic trash being produced today.

I am thrilled with this purchase! The Martian was our choice for the first 4K Ultra HD movie we added to our library after upgrading our home theater to 4K. While my husband can and does enjoy 3D movie effects they are wasted on me due to visual problems but this format is so dynamic and visually powerful that even my eyes can see things that take my breath away. Then of course, there is the fact that this is just an amazing movie in format.

The Martian is one of the most scientific portrayals I've seen of what a mission to explore Mars and place a base there actually would look like. The somewhat melodramatic plot is interesting -- Matt Damon provides a highly sympathetic turn as the Robinson Crusoe-like castaway who must use his ingenuity to survive the harsh realities of an alien world. The scenes of Mars' surface look like the real photos taken by the robot probes.

Ridley Scott one of the hardest working inconsistent directors in Hollywood hits it big once more. An ode to science and optimism, with a perfectly cast leading man Matt Damon shows us time and time again why we love him, and Ridley Scott manages to turns a premise that has been done before, Castaway but in space, into a breath of fresh air. Simply put, if you love films then you should watch this.

One of the best movies I’ve seen. Took an Impossible storyline and made it completely believable. Of what I’ve seen, easily one of Matt Damon’s finest performances.

Incredible sci-fi drama with a great cast. Watched on a simple 4k tv with low budget speakers and sub woofer that I can "get by" with.
