Every so often a show comes along that makes you think, all while enjoying the show. Jeff Daniels and the cast of the Newsroom do just that. Their ability to take an event and report as objectively as possible what matters while all being pulled by their subjective biases makes you think what you would do in their situation. It is a constant nostalgia of remembering where you were when the real life stories that they report on in the show are portrayed and makes you remember your initial reactions to the news, your emotions and own biases and then your habitual reaction to looking to the news to tell you what is really going on. Now everyone including myself can disagree with the news and many bash it for its liberal or conservative siding but I do not envy the job of the news crews that work continually to try their best in most cases to be objective, accurate and helpful in their presentations. This show, while fictional, makes you understand that much more how hard it is to do this job without being a robot. An absolute must see show.

I'm mezmerized by this show. It's likely the best written show in the last 15 years and that's no small statement considering the quality of content out of HBO and other cable channels. To enter the danger zone let me state that I'm politically an Independant and this show crosses political lines and reminds me what Republicans and Democrats used to represent. If you are strictly Conservative or hard line Liberal this might not be for you as it will make you think beyond talking points to real content. I'm amazed that the show incorporates actual events and the reasoning behind putting it out in a news show. It's a great dramatic show and worth every accolade and award it's received.

Look, I love mindless fun (Cowboys and Aliens, Marvel's Avengers, etc) as much as the next guy. But the brain must be fed also. Sorkin has always resisted dumbing down his plots and his actors. They talk like we would all like too but seldom do. And as much as The West Wing was of its time, so is The Newsroom. While it probably helps if you lean center or a little left on politics, it is not necessary in order to enjoy. Sorkin is not afraid to call out liberal excesses when needed. Great stuff.

This show is so good it renewed my faith in TV's ability to be a legitimate medium for change. Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston, and many others do an excellent job showing how television news could restored as an honest impartial source of relevant information. This show also helps illuminate the issues dragging our political system into the gutter. I highly recommend this to anyone, but especially to people going into the journalism industry.

It may take you 2 or 3 episodes to get into this series, but it is SO well worth it when you do. Wonderful, snappy dialog throughout, and some of the best characters I have ever seen on TV. The politics are especially interesting as the main character is an avowed republican, while most of the rest of the characters leans towards liberal or progressive. Superb acting throughout.

I was fortunate enough to purchase this at a bargain price. I am rarely disappointed with Aaron Sorkin's works. I fell in love with "The West Wing" and will remain my favorite show of all time. "The Newsroom" was an incredible original idea from Sorkin that had the potential to have as long-lived a run as "The West Wing". Unfortunately, it could not gain much traction on HBO.

"The Newsroom" is n excellent show. HBO has another hit on their hands. Too bad it is only going to run for 3 seasons. I love the relevant news stories that are addressed in season one. We as the audience are familiar with them, but we can see an interpretation of what happens behind the scenes and how people have to handle these situations.

More than a bit left sided but solid writing with a real flare for what an active newsroom is like. Its amazing to see Jeff Daniels display such range. This is, after all, the guy from Dumb and Dumber. Great cast, always intriguing the way the show takes on the news of the day.

Wow! Can't believe I got this amazing program for just 15 bucks. It's a great combination of thought-provoking social commentary and silly humor. The avian bone lady from 30 rock is in it. Love her. And the lead of course ;). Sometimes has a Frasier feel to it.

From the creator of West Wing – so if you liked that series you’ll love this one. Only this is better because it’s HBO/cable and they have more freedom to create without the censorship of the traditional networks. Great storylines, great writing, top notch acting.

The Newsroom is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. The work of the ensemble cast, led by Jeff Daniels is seamless, energetic and compelling. If you can't watch this show on HBO, buy the Blu-Ray/DVD and enjoy it at home!

One of my favorite shows. Jeff Daniels is excellent in his role as Will. The first 5 mins sucked me in when it was previewed last year. Good mix of drama / comedy. I've gotten the wife and a few friends to go all in on the show.

Great HBO series. Newsroom Season 1 is an amazing start to the potrayal of the turbulent waters between the news and big business. This collection includes episode commentary and behind the scenes with Aaoron Sorkin.

It is hard to believe that this could be as engrossing as it is. A news network focusing on what they do and how they do it with fairly recent events providing the background. Acting, however, is excellent all around.

Jeff Daniels and Oliva Munn are amazing in this fast paced witty and thought provoking look at what has been lost in TV news. The opening scene in the first episode is a testament to great writing.

If your political views are right of center, you will probably find this series annoying and a little preachy. But if you are center to left, you will love it. Great writing, great acting.

The first 5 -10 minutes of this series grabs you and holds you throughout each episode. Aaron Sorkin is masterful at creating interesting characters and plot lines. You won't be disappointed.

Our son recommended this series to us when it was new on HBO. We don't subscribe, however, so when we had rewards that were about to expire, we decided to check it out. We are glad we did.

The Newsroom is a great program - wish it was on TV year-round! This DVD set is great - it's wonderful to be able to watch the shows when I want, and the behind-the-scenes info is great, also.
