His final film (as of the writing of this review, though another is in the works), Hayao Miyazaki continues to show his mastery of the craft with this beautiful exploration of the horrors of war seen through the lens of a man who just wants to make beautiful planes. A must-watch for any fan of Miyazaki's work, though definitely a more mature film than many of his other ones.

    More than I was expecting

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. I bought it on a whim, as I have lately been exploring different anime titles & saw it marked down. Once I started watching, I found it was well worth the time spent, as I was drawn deeper into the story & it held my interest throughout. I never expected to have an emotional connection to a character in an animated movie, but was pleasantly surprised. Will definitely remain in my collection for future viewing(s). And, FWIW, the continuity with regard to the construction of aircraft was pretty close as well.

Studio Ghibli. That alone should be enough to tell you that this is breathtaking art and animation at its best. The company that inspired every movie and creation at Pixar now Disney has made a truly gem of cinema experience. Set during WW 2. It follows a young genius engineer as he grows to manhood fall in love and overcomes the many issues of life under the umbrella of war. I was impressed by the view point shown from a Japanese perspective. Very enlightening not heavy handed a beautiful love story. Definitely one of my favorite purchases. You will not be disappointed.

Finally got around to watching this one and its another studio Ghibli movie greatness. The steelbook is great as all the others with a cool booklet inside that my kids love to look at. A movie for all ages. These Studio ghibli movies give us a good reason for family movie night. jr_hybrid_collectables

    Miyazaki's last flight

Legendary Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki's last film. If you like old fighter planes and the spirit of invention you'll love this animated feature. Although it takes place during WW2, it largely avoids the politics of the time instead focusing mostly on someone following their dreams and the beauty of flight in and of itself while we know the powers that be plow their destructive path at the edges of our collective memory. There are plenty of great Studio Ghibli films with different directors, but don't miss this last hurrah from the legend.

My first introduction to Ghibli / anime films! This is easily still one of my favorites and will easily to appeal to those who have an interest/career in engineering. This film offers a great balance between a fascination for engineering/design and an emotional journey. The blu ray picture quality is also excellent and colorful.

The Wind Rises is a good film - good story, great animation, interesting use of scenery enhancements (for example, things that make the views more real appearing than animation usually can achieve). Typical Miyazaki, in that it is good, has a feel that you can recognize as his style, and you find yourself thinking about it, days later. It has been announced by Miyazaki that this work will be his last feature length film, and it is always good to go out on a strong note.

This was the first Studio Ghibli movie I saw in the theater and it christened my love for the animation studio. When Disney sold the home distribution rights to GKIDS this title was the only holdover for several years since it is a newer movie. I'm glad to see it finally get a GKIDS release.

Studio Ghibli to anyone who doesn't know, is a Japanese anime movie house which was recently purchased by Disney. Disney does not buy just anybody out, but only those companies it knows it can make money off of. The Wind Rises is another great story from Studio Ghibli and I recommend anyone who has not checked out their films to do so, they are well worth it.

The Wind Rises is an imaginative and thoughtful film about the Japanese aeronautical engineer Jiro Horikoshi who was the chief engineer behind the Zero fighter plane during World War II as well as other aircraft. This Studio Ghibli movie features a wonderful story as well as fantastic animation.

If you are reading this, then you know all about Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. If not, buy this. This is a fictional biopic about a Japanese aircraft designer beginning prior to WWII. If you enjoy movies like the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, then you will enjoy this. Instead of actors, you have voice actors and animation. The story is both interesting and touching, full of exceptional characterization.

    Miyazaki's Tribute to Creativity

If you like Miyazaki's work, this is a gem. Incorporating his love of aviation, Miyazaki uses aircraft design as a metaphor for creativity itself. This film departs from Miyazaki's other works in that it lacks the supernatural. Other than in dream sequences, the story is rooted firmly in the real world. But it does not lack for magic. This is a serious, beautiful, and thoroughly wonderful film.

As with all Studio Ghibli films absolutely great and would give this a 5 if not for 2 reasons...has been a long time coming and, in part to reason 2, Disney owns distribution rights which means high prices and a terribly looooooonnnnnnggggg wait for Blu-ray releases. With another 3 looming in Feb 2015 including Tales from Earthsea where's Spirited Away? Unless you have an all region player to get these from overseas...and I might add that being a Ghibli Fan I have because Disney has not even released a small number either DVD or BD format....or willing to pay even Disney Pricing these movies are never disappointing.

This is great animated film. Hopefully it is not the last by Hayao Miyazaki and his Studio Gilbi. This is his eleventh full length feature film. One crowd scene alone in the film took one year to make! This is an animated film for adults, and you shouldn't miss it!

While this should not be used as a historical fact movie or story it does tell an amazing love story of both air and humanity. It is definitely an awe awaking movie very different than any other Studio film. My son who was 8 when he saw it actually stayed more consontrated on this movie than any of the others because of how appealing it is.

I wish I could give this movie more than 5 stars. I knew that I would like it because it's a Studio Ghibli film, but it was even better than I expected. The animation is incredible, the story is perfect, and the voices are excellent. I highly recommend this movie, as it has joined Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle as my favorite Miyazaki films.

I loved watching this movie. I watched it years ago and tried to find it and Best Buy gave the best option for it. Not only is it brand new, but its also has the movie in blue-ray and DVD. If I did not just buy the movie I would buy it again.

A lifelong love of flight inspires Japanese aviation engineer Jiro Horikoshi (Hideaki Anno), whose storied career includes the creation of the A6M World War II fighter plane. Japanese audio with English (or other) subtitles highly recommended.

Despite the sometimes odd delivery of lines in the English dub track this is a breathtaking piece of animation. A biographical film that keeps you interested. Maybe don't cast Joseph Gordon Levitt next time though. It was tough to take him seriously at times. Fantastic animation here.

This film was directed by Hayao Miyazaki and is actually his very final film he'd ever make. The movie is heartwarming and dramatic just like any other Miyazaki film, but it feels like all of the other things that made Miyazaki films great was all combined in this. There are refrences of his love of literature (The character Hans Castrop is also a character in The Magic Mountain), the film shows Miyazaki's love for airplanes, and it has that beautiful score as in every Miyazaki film. so go pick it up and give it a watch!
