I got this as a Mother's Day gift for my wife in April since it was in discount; I personally charged it for a full day before wrapping it. She started using it yesterday but noticed one probe did not give any reading and also showed no connection to the box or phone. I called a friend (who owns one of these), who recommended checking if it was a setup issue. We followed all the instructions in the manual and didn't skip any; we concluded the probe was damaged on arrival; besides that, the other probe worked perfectly. You might have problems with the sticker glue residue of the probes; try to use hot oil and a rough cloth; don't use the brush for that if you plan to use it for cleaning purposes.

This truly wireless ensemble has a range of up to 500 ft, facilitated by having a separate booster that serves as a broadcast station between the grill and your cellphone or iPad, connecting via Bluetooth 5.2 standards. That range depends on a variety of influences, so 500 ft. invokes the “your mileage may vary” disclaimer. The Bluetooth only connection probably is not a detriment, although less robust that a WiFi connection. Since you probably do not do much cooking from a down the block from your grill, a distance of 200-250 feet should be totally dependable, allowing you to go inside, upstairs, etc.
The booster box has its own readout screen, so you can leave it near the grill for on site monitoring, without having to pull out your phone to check the app. The probe/booster box should not too close to the heat. They recommend that to lessen risk of heat damage, the booster module be no closer than one foot from the heat source.
Each spike measures the internal temp of the meat with the metal shaft, which should be inserted into the meat until it is fully inserted to a marking on the shaft. The thermistor is in the tip of the shaft, so you can envision where to optimally place the probe.
The ceramic handle of the spike separately measures the ambient temp. The ceramic of the handle was robust and easy to grip, so inserting and removing the probe was easily accomplished. The value of an ambient temp reading is to discern if your fire is in need of more fuel. If the temp starts dropping, you get an early warning for adding more, rather than a delayed alert when the internal temp is dropping in the meat. The ceramic handle is heat safe up to an ambient temp of 572º F, whereas the spike inserted into the meat has a temp range from 14º F - 212º F.
You set the desired internal temp for your food, depending on the degree of done-ness desired. The thermometer will send you an alert when you approach that target temp. The alert is adjustable: either a 5º, 10º, or 15º warning.
The “booster” cradle serves multiple functions: as a readout of the current internal and ambient temps of both spikes, the signal transmitter and booster to bridge from the grill to your cellphone, and as the cradle for storing and recharging your twin spikes. The spikes will automatically shut themselves off to conserve battery life after 5 minutes once removed from the food. The spikes are waterproof to IP67 standard, and dishwasher safe, so keeping them pristine is not a chore.
The display on the cradle shows the charging status of the spikes, with a USB-C input port on the side. There is a built in battery in the cradle that will recharge the spikes between the uses. There is a warning on the screen when the cradle needs to be recharged. I didn’t get a sense of how frequently the base station needed recharging; I just developed a habit of plugging it back into a USB charger as part of the cleaning of the grill routine.
My prior grilling has always been low tech. My grill has an analog thermometer on the top of the grill for ambient temp. And internal temps were determined by opening the grill (loosing lots of heat in the process) and stabbing the meat with an instant read thermometer (ThermoPro, of course).
But the process of opening the grill, and sampling two or three areas of one bird or separate steaks all took around 5 minutes, with a rapid drop in temperature of the cooking environs.
Many manufacturers make thermometers with long wires connecting an external probe to the display adjacent to the grill, and indeed I have one of those, which was a definite advance on the repeat chilling of the grill insides with multiple checking of “is it done yet”. Such a wired probe requires a tangle of wires leaving the meat to the display, where they are a bit in the way. I fear damage from the metal cover of the BBQ grill damaging the wire lead, as well. So the wireless probe is a major improvement.
Having the ambient temperature measurement allays worries about having run out of fuel. In comparison of the ambient temp as reported by the TempSpike and the analog low tech thermometer embedded in the lid of my Weber grill, the two were often up to 20º - 30º off from each other. I trusted the TempSpike more, for it ws immediately at the level of the meat being cooked, rather than a foot away at the top of the dome. “Heat rises” I recall from science class, but it is a rough measure.
The trend curve of the internal temperature was more important to me than the ambient temperature. The mobile app has pre-loaded USDA temps selected, but you can adjust these to suit your preferences. I like my salmon grilled a bit less than the USDA dictates; a bit more on the sushi side. And a 5º to 10º warning gave me plenty of time to avoid the heartbreak of dried out salmon.
Being waterproof would also make TempSpike monitoring of sous vide cooking an option, but my Bluetooth sous vide wand already has wireless phone connection, so really this thermometer would be redundant.
The price of this dual probe wireless thermometer was lower than other wireless thermometers of similar sophistication that I am aware of.
I have a trust in ThermoPro build quality and durability, as evidenced by my collection of their products. That trust has been further enhanced by purchase of this device, and gives me an excellent suggestion for gifting for my sons-in-law; one who has a Kamado green cooker and the other with a traditional gas fired grill.

The ThermPro TempSpike is a really nice meat thermometer, though there are things that could be better. I've been using Bluetooth thermometers for the past 5 years with my smoker. This one is much easier to use since the Bluetooth radio is built into the probe instead of connecting it via a cable. Not having cables sticking out of your smoker, grill, or oven makes it so much easier.
One minor issue I had was that the probes and booster (base) came very low on battery charge. Not a big deal, but if you bought it to use right away, that wasn't going to happen. Not sure if that is how they ship all of them or mine just drained prior to me using it. Like I said, not a big deal.
First thing you need to do is download the app for iPhone or Android. I have an Apple device so I will be reviewing the iOS version. Pairing the device to the phone worked right away...just open the app (ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone) and press the S button on the booster. In the app, click the Add Device and select your product name. That's it...no issues. The instructions say that the probes are paired with the booster at the factory, but they do tell you how to re-do it if you have any issues there. Mine were already paired when I got it.
When you are ready to use it.you select the type of meat you are cooking in the app (do that for each probe) or set a custom temperature you want to get to. In the app, you can select whether you want the alarm to sound and if you want vibration alerts as well. Each probe also tracks the ambient temperature, so you can select a low or high ambient temp you want it to alarm on.
Insert the probe past the notch into the meat. This was one of the lessons learned I had. I pushed the probe past the notch as indicated, but not far enough. When the meat started to shrink back a little, the notch was exposed and the temperature alarmed way too early. I guessed the issue and pushed it further into the meat and the temp went back down to the internal meat temp.
I frequently smoke multiple cuts of meat at a time, which is where the first opportunity for improvement comes in. This device is limited to the two probes (one white and one black). It would be nice to get a version with 4-6 probes like many of the Bluetooth thermometers available.
Overall, I really like this product and look forward to using it again. It was easy to setup and straight-forward to use. I would recommend this for anyone that wants to track temperatures while cooking.

Knowing what your internal temps of your proteins is key to having successful cooks. This wireless via Bluetooth temperature probe takes the guess work out of perfection.
I have a Fireboard temperature monitoring system for my meats but the wires are a pain to tame. The wireless probes are a game changer. The Bluetooth works flawlessly with the phone app. The storage box that houses the probes not only charges the probes but also acts as a Bluetooth broadcaster to your phone with very impressive distances. My smoker is on my deck and I can maintain Bluetooth connection throughout my 3,500 sqft house. The main box also has a readout on it so you don’t need a phone to see the temps. You can use this without a phone but it really shines with the phone app because you can set temp alarms and also track your progress with their charts. The probe is 2 stage with the first stage measuring IT and the 2nd for ambient temps. You do have to insert the probe 2.5” into your meat so this won’t work well for smaller cuts of meat. The girth of the probe is also very large so keep that in mind if your cut is thin or don’t want a gaping hole through your finished cook.
Overall, you get a lot of bang for the buck on these wireless probes. Battery life on the probes in one my tests exceeded 24 hours so smoking large briskets will not be an issue. Accuracy also matches my Fireboard and Thermapen for both cold and hot. Very pleased and will recommend these twin tempspikes for smoking, grilling or pan frying your meats!

Cooking With Bluetooth!

Modern conveniences sometimes cause us to ask, “How did I ever live without one of these?”. We’ve had mechanical meat thermometers for years: stick the thermometer into the meat and look inside the stove for an exact reading of the internal temperature, so that you will know the meat is fully cooked. Most cooking instructions provide very general guidelines for the length of time to cook, but almost all will specify that you are to cook X hours/minutes for a piece of meat, “…or until the internal temperature is XXX degrees”. In preparing meat, cooking to the proper internal temperature not only ensures the meat will taste better because it is fully cooked, but is also kills any pathogens, such as salmonella, that can cause sickness in humans.
So, why this product? How about extreme convenience? It comes with two ¼ inch diameter probes that are about five inches in length. You stick the probe fully into the meat. In my case, I was cooking two pork tenderloins in my stove. You are advised to be sure to stick the probe completely into the meat so that only the handle on the end is visible. In my case, I had two one-pound tenderloins, and I used one probe for each. On a larger cut of meat, such as a roast or ham, you might want to use the two probes in different locations on the meat, to make sure that the entire cut has reached the proper temperature.
Now the fun part. The two probes come in a convenient charging case. A USB-C to USB-A cable is furnished, and you can use virtually any charger, and after only a few minutes, I was able to get the probes to a full charge. There is an indicator on the charging device to indicate the charge level. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on in your phone settings. Download the app onto your iPhone or Android device, pair the charger, and you are ready to cook! You set an internal temperature for each probe, and, when the temperature is reached, an alarm goes off on your smartphone. That’s it! You don’t even have to crack the stove until you are ready to remove the cooked meat!
During cooking, the provided software provides both the internal temperature of the meat, as well as the ambient temperature inside the stove in real time, and the Bluetooth range is said to be up to five hundred feet! I was sitting outside having a drink when the alarm went off. It is that easy. The probes can also be used on an outside grill.
Even though it is not mentioned in the instructions, the device also comes with a small wire brush. I assume such a brush would be handy for cleaning hard to reach parts of the grill grate. I did not see an immediate use for using it to clean the probes. They were very easy to clean off and wipe clean after cooking. After use, the probes are stored in the charger which also serves as an attractive and useful protective case.
I had one glitch on my first cooking experience with these spikes. The internal temperature sensor went off far too early on one of the probes. I pulled the meat out of the stove and looked at the piece that had the early reporting probe. I found that I had accidentally inserted the probe all the way through the tenderloin so that it pierced the meat and came out the other side. The instructions advise that the meat must fully encase the probe, so I reinserted it so that it did not protrude, and all was well.
I highly recommend this product, and wonder how I ever lived without it!

No more overcooked food

Food safety is a must in our house, but all too often that can lead to food being over cooked to err on the side of caution. These wireless temperature probes fix all that and led to some of the juiciest chicken breasts I've had in age.
The charging case feels heavy duty enough that unless you abuse it, it likely will not break. The probes fit securely inside and the magnet in the underside of the case holds well to my grill while the rubber feet keep it from scratching the paint. I love that they went USB-C for charging instead of a proprietary cable. The only complaint about the case is there is no QR code for downloading the app on the device itself. You'll have to dig that one out of the manual or search for it in your app store, which I highly recommend you do.
The probes themselves are easy to use. The hardest part was peeling the instructional sticker off of each probe. After that, a click wash and then an insertion into the chicken and I was ready to go. In the app, I set my meat to poultry and it set the rest of the parameters for me. You can also add custom profiles should you choose. If you're using the app, you can also see the ambient temperature outside the meat. This is useful if you smoke meat and want to be alerted if your temperature goes to high or to low. You can also chart your temps if you get into the really specialized stuff or maybe if you're running a commercial kitchen that requires logging.
The alarm letting you know you've reached your temp is dependent on your phone, but mine was definitely loud enough. I initially thought my smoke alarm had gone off, so be prepared on the first use. Afterwards cleanup was quick and easy with a wash cloth and some soapy water and back in the case to be charged up. If you do any sort of grilling or baking of meat, this is a must have.

I put the ThermoPro Twin TempSpike Wireless Meat Thermometer through its paces over the past week. I used it to grill some steaks and then while smoking a brisket. The setup is quick and simple enough to connect to my smartphone via the TempSpike app. Once connected to the app you can quickly and easily set each of the the probes to the desired meat profile and even easily create your profiles. You can also set audible alerts and vibration alerts based on the desired internal temp and external ambient temp. The app will give you an estimated time of completion using the two temp measurements. Probe battery life is fantastic. I did not have any issues making it through the 8+ hours of smoking the brisket. The range is great and I was able to monitor the temperature from inside without any connection issues. The probes are pretty thick and need to be inserted to a certain depth, so if you are cooking a smaller piece of meat it might be a small issue but not a deal breaker. Overall the Twin TempSpike wireless meat thermometer is a great addition to your grilling/cooking equipment. I would recommend this to anyone.

Included- 2 probes with booster, USB-C charging cable, cleaning brush, Quick Start Guide
To get started, you will need to fully charge the booster and probes with the included USB-C charging cable. There is a LCD display that will show you the charging status and level energy for each probe and the booster individually. W hile it's charging, download the Tempspike app onto your smart device. After everything is fully charged, you need to connect the booster to the probe and then your booster to your smart device via bluetooth.
When you want to use the probe while you're cooking, insert one or both probes into the meat. It needs to be inserted dep enough so that the notch on the probe is completely covered by the meat. On the app, set your desired temp or you can choose what type of meat you're cooking and the doneness you want. After the meat is cooked and the temp is reached, then an alarm will sound from the app and/or booster.
I love having the ThermoPro Twin TempSpike set. It's so easy to set and forget it. I don't have to constantly open the oven and let all the heat out of the oven and take multiple readings. I can either relax and let the ThermoPro do all the work or I can concentrate on making the rest of the meal and not worry about the meat. It's honestly great for any at home cook, whatever skill level you're at. It will easy to make your roasts, steaks, chops, any meat perfectly. I cook every day and I'm excited to have this great kitchen tool.

Great Wireless Cooking Probes

I have actually have several wired and wireless temperature probes to assist me in cooking, all with good to mixed results. I wanted to give the ThermPro a shot to see if it proved to be a better experience.
These are truly wireless and leverage Bluetooth 5.2 and a 500ft Range. They come with two color coded (Black and White) probes. These are like others on the market. You have a line on the probe where you insert up to that point and not beyond. You try to get into the thickest part of the meat. The probes are sturdy. They charged in the booster, and I used one of my high wattage bricks for my phone to plug into so they seemed to charge very quickly. The feel and quality of all the parts seem very solid, I was also impressed with the magnetic backing of the booster, it was convenient to attach it to the side shelf of the grill while I cooked. It has a display as well, in addition to using the app.
I wanted to give this thing a challenge on its first cook, so I had some bone in chicken breasts. I normally love to just do a little oil, salt and pepper on my chicken on the grill and get it about 75% done, then bring it inside and put into a covered dish in the oven with bbq sauce and a bit of water to help finish the cook and steam it, to keep it very moist.
What I really liked about these probes was the accuracy of them. For example, in the pics, you will see that I had one obviously larger breast and one smaller breast. I did my best to keep the probe into the center of the thickest part of the meat. Since one was larger, the smaller one clearly had less meat between it and the grill, and I knew this meant that the smaller breast would cook faster. The Twin Temp was amazing, it was a perfect monitor for my temps. Chicken is also a bit forgiving so I could let the one breast stay on the grill while I waited for the bigger one to get closer to when I moved them to the oven. I just moved the smaller breast to a cooler part of the grill.
Once inside, I left the probes in, put into the casserole dish, and added bbq sauce and a bit of water. I had set the cooking temp to 210 and even when the smaller one’s probe alarm went off, I left it in there, like I said, chicken is forgiving.
Now….my only initial thing I didn’t like but I was able to fix it. I was inside when the temp alarm went off on the smaller breast probe. The default alarm sound on these probes is probably the loudest and most annoying sound ever! My poor 10-year-old Chocolate lab jumped up, freaked out and started shaking! She does the same thing if the smoke alarm makes a beep..lol. I quickly went into the app and thankfully you can select many different sounds, most all of which are better than the default. You have been warned.
Overall, I really like this. Time will tell with these devices. At this point, it’s my go to temp probe. I hope they last better than other brands. I have another brand with 4 probes and one of them has just quit working all together and one is flaky, I am hoping over time these are consistent. Right now, they are awesome, and I would recommend them.

The Twin TempSpike is a well thought out meat and ambient thermometer, or thermometers really! You get 2 probes, an amazing little charging carry case that is also magnetic! So thoughtful! There’s an app that you can download onto your phone, links rights into the thermometer so you can monitor the temperature. It’s super simple and easy to use. Being able to measure ambient temperature is pretty cool, but of course I’m mostly going to use it at thanksgiving and any other time I am cooking a big chunk of meat. I really like the compact design, it’s a sleek little case that did take a couple hours to get all charged up, it was dead on arrival but once it was plugged in I could see it was charging. It has a backlight that you can turn on and off and the little instruction manual is actually readable. I will appreciate having this tool for cooking as guessing whether meat is hot enough inside is not really something I want to do. There were no issues with first usage, everything was synced and worked perfectly. This is a great meat thermometer that is easy to use out of the box.

I have used many probe thermometers before but all were wired and after a summer of bbq'ing the wires would get charred and pinched from the cover and begin to fail. This ThermoPro Twin TempSpike fixes all those problems. No wires, no fuss, just insert the probes, grab a beverage and let the ThermaPro do all the work.
When you first get the ThermoPro Twin TempSpike give it a full charge with the included usb cord. You will notice the case it comes in is plastic but when lifting it you will notice it has some heft to it. The booster case is not cheaply made but has kind of a cheap plastic look to it. The probes themselves are very sturdy. There won't be any flexing of the probe as you insert them into your meat. The probes are about 3 inches long with a line at about 2 1/2" that must be covered up by the meat so as not to damage the probe.
Once your unit is charged, download the app with the easy to follow QR code in the user manual. The app allows you to follow the cooking progress of your meat, set internal and ambient temps and customize your own cooking instructions for different types of meat. There a preset internal temp guidelines for different types of meat. Once you click your meat profile you can then choose the doneness of your meat from rare to well done. The alarm will sound on you phone when the internal temp meets the doneness you set. The setting I like most is the pre alarm. Set it from 5 to 15 degrees before the desired temp and you will then know that it's time to get your side dishes ready and get the table set. I do wish there was a setting to let you know when to flip you meat. Of course you have a constant reminder right in your hand where you can see the internal temp on your phone but a nice little beef halfway through cooking would have been nice.
The app has many other convenient settings and alarms. You can also customize the alarm sounds. The default one is kind of an ear piercing continuous beep so I was happy to see I could set the sound to something a little more peaceful. If you don't want to carry your phone around the booster where the probes are stored also has a LED screen where you can see the internal and ambient temps of your cook. It's nice because it magnetic so you can just attach it to a non hot surface of your BBQ and see the temps as you cook. It also has an alarm which notifies you when the internal temp has been reached. I didn't need to test the 500ft bluetooth range because I will probably never be that far from my BBQ but was impressed that the unit stayed connected to my phone all around my house and backyard.
As far as I have seen the ThermoPro Twin TempSpike has cooked my meat to perfection. I like my steaks on the med rare side and my wife medium well, so having the twin probes that can be set to different temps is a winner for us.

First, I don’t consider myself much of a Griller. My past experiences have always led to frustrations of either over or under cooking my chicken or steak meats. I purchased the ThermoPro twin TempSpike on implulse when it was advertised on BestBuy’s Deal of the Day offering recently. I’ve seen advertisements of this product on social media months ago and thought I’d give it a try. My past methods of cooking and temperature monitoring was use of the traditional analog thermometer probe which always ended up being inconsistent whether the meat was cooked properly or not … I am looking forward to using the ThermoPro TempSpike to up my backyard grilling game! I like the fact that it is wireless and that there is an external temperature display feature versus having solely to use my phone to monitor my cooking progress.

So far after 4 times of use, ill say its one of the best wireless thermometer. While not perfect it works very well. Havent had an issue other than one time qhere the probes suddenly disconnected from the app but the charger/base still shows temp and ambient temp so you can just take the base around with you. The range is quite long. Not quite 500ft cause things will reduce the range like walls and furnitures, but im good as long as i can take it to my livingroom and its still connected. I bought two more to gift for christmas to my friends.

This is based on only one use so far. Cooked a tri-tip on a gas barbeque. Installed the app on my phone, inserted the probe as instructed and set the done temperature at 135. The app showed the temp in the meat and under the BBQ hood, and started showing the time-to-go when the meat would be done and the temp inside the BBQ. It was done right on time and the meat was a perfect medium rare. Definitely beats the wired thermometers I have had. Usually the probes would get overheated and fail. This probe is beefier and appeared to take the exposure to the underhood 485 degree heat okay, If it fails like all the wire probes, I will let you know.

Bought this set on sale after Yummly suddenly shut down. I like that the app is strictly for adjustments of the probes. Though better than the Yummly app was, it isn’t required for use. The base works just fine. I am fairly new to using these. Less than a year in. But so far I do not feel disappointed. 4 stars because I am not excited about the app. Maybe that will change with more usage.
