IT IS AMAZING. I used to have the Logitech shifter, long story short is i heard the Thrustmaster TH8S was cheap as we bjt offered a usb connection. I play on both xbox and pc. My laptop has an extra usb c port that i dont use and using a usbc to usbc cable wkth the shifter works amazing. I have no delay or anything and works as is. I opened beamng drive and assetto and both worked without me having to change settings. Just plug and play. Only thing is that you need a thrustmaster wheel to use it on xbox. I have heard of different solutions for using it with a different ecosystem but i have never tried them. One small complaint is kind of not even supposed to be a complaint, idk. I tried to take off the shift knob and i ended up stripping the screw. This could very well be user error and im sure it wasnt meant to be taken off but just to let you guys know to be careful if you are thinking about swapping to a different shift knob. My desk is just a teeny tiny bit under 1.5 inches thick and the mount for the shifter barely fits, but it does fit. It is very secure and has not moved once.

I purchased this as an open box for around $50. Fuctions perfecly and looks amazing on my sim racing rig! Makes shifting much more pleasurable amd much easier to reach reverse quickly after an incident. Thrustmaster is the best in my opinion and very competitively priced as well.

In the exciting world of racing simulators and gaming, the pursuit of realism and total immersion is unending. Precision and performance execution are paramount, and every detail carries weight in capturing the essence of the racetrack. In this context, I integrated my Thrustmaster TH8S shifter with my Logitech G923 Racing Wheel for PC, and the results were impressive. Within a matter of moments, my PC recognized the shifter plugged in via USB, and it was ready for action without the need for extensive driver searches or additional software installations. This shifter operates seamlessly via a hassle-free Plug and Play method. It's important to note that my assessment of this manual shifter is rooted in my personal experience and is not intended for direct comparison with other brands. I opted for the TH8S shifter due to its exceptional versatility and wide compatibility across various racing wheel brands. Design: The H-pattern shift plate with 7 gears in addition to reverse gear execute well and make no miss except when I first used it. It is mostly made of plastic, making me feel like this is cheap. However, it feels sturdy and has a fabric protector around the shifter lever to protect the interior mechanism from any potential debris. The shift lever is made of steel which is expected from such a well-known company for making high and premium gaming peripherals and accessories. It Has a clamp that allows it to be securely mounted to a table or racing wheel seat. Very secure and stay attached with no issue. Compatibility: Compatibility is indeed one of the key attributes that sets Thrustmaster's racing peripherals apart from other brands. Thrustmaster has designed its products to offer extensive compatibility with various gaming platforms via dual connectors. It is widely compatible with a PC via USB cable (any racing wheel), PS, and Xbox via DIN (which require the use of Thrustmaster-brand racing wheels). Functionality and execution: One of the distinguished features of the Thrustmaster shifter is its ability to adjust the shifter resistance, which allows me to fine-tune the gear lever's resistance feel to suit my preference. I’m blessed with it and it complements my racing rig. It is durable and sturdy despite being made mostly of plastic. For a price point, it sets it as a great competitor!!!!

I learned to drive with a car with a shift box or manual transmission and I miss the felling of having the control of the vehicle so when playing any racing games I enjoy the feel of shifting gears. The Thrustmaster TH8S shifter is an add-on, it is an entry level and affordable shifter that performs well. It comes with both cables to either use it directly with a Thrustmaster racing wheel base with the mini-DIN cable and it can be connected directly to the PC with the USB-C to USB A cable both included. The shifter is sturdy and the shifting resistance can be adjusted with a flat screwdriver, it can be tightened or loosened to my liking. And shifting is fun and comfortable since it does have seven speeds and reverse. To install it is easy, it has a clamp to mount on a table or desk without using any tools, up to 1.6 inches thick and it is ready to be installed on a racing chair to feel like you are inside the vehicle. The feel of the shifter is good, the shifter is made of plastic so it does not feel like the real deal but then again it is affordable and it is entry level so it feels good even when I’m in the game it keeps up with the handling and with racing gloves I don’t get the plastic feel. Before using the TH8S go to the Thrustmaster website and download and install the drivers then connect it and done. Overall, I like how easy it was to add this shifter and make the experience much better, it is affordable and versatile.

This shifter attachment is solidly built and looks and feels like a premium product. It is designed to be able to work with a large variety of wheels from different manufacturers, by using either a USB-C connection or a DIN connector. The DIN connection is intended for Thrustmaster wheels, and USB allows a direct connection to console or PC making it very versatile. It has gears 1-7 and reverse, and rowing through each gear feels good almost like the real thing, just noisier due to the plastics. I have been using it on my T-248 for PS5 playing Gran Turismo 7 and it adds a level of immersion and realism that brings the game to a new level for me. Attaching it to a desk or stand is easy with a screw type compression fitting but I can see how in certain scenarios it might slide a bit since the underside does not have any sort of rubber for gripping the surface it’s on. I have a stand for my wheel and this attached quickly and easily to my setup and was recognized immediately without having to change any game or console settings. I’m impressed with it as an entry level piece, and it suits my needs perfectly.

I've submitted photos that I currently run the Logitech G923 wheel paired with the Logitech Driving Force Shifter. I play Forza 5, and Assetto Corsa. This does run on your consoles, but I play on my ultrawide monitor pc monitor. Just for context. Installation , same as the logitech, clamp clamp, fine, not a big deal. Works as intended. It is slightly different than the Logitech, not better, not worse. Some reviewers felt it was more loose when compared to Logitech, I have tried various iterations and I could not reproduce the same result. It was very sturdy and reliable. Any racing fan will know there is actually an older brother shifter from Thrustmaster, more for the core sim fans. This product is more for the casual sim fan and is a direct competitor to the Logitech shifter, which I have sitting right next to the Thrustmaster stick. Similar price range, similar build quality, so it comes down to how the stick feels and compatibility. Set up is easy. As anyone who plays racing sims, the dread comes from running the wires, and drivers setting up, and hoping things are compatible and run smoothly without stutters or glitches/mismapped buttons etc. Being a new product, I was a little worried the software/compatibility would be a problem, but as you can see from the pictures my game fired up perfectly fine, all gears were correctly assigned, responsive, tight, no drift. No issues in both games I play, compatibility, check. Works with the clutch from the G923. Check check check. Finally the feel, the simulation. I felt like it was definitely a different feel when compared to the logitech. The logitech clicks, while thrustmaster drifts to neutral. It's alot smoother, which some people like, some people don't. For everyday drivers that like to "wiggle" to neutral check, this does it naturally, unlike the Logitech. The logitech is more sim-like short stick without that same wiggle for the neutral check. Otherwise, everything else, getting into the right gears felt very smooth, very clean. I think it runs neck and neck with the competitor, but I found myself coming back to the Thrustmaster more now that I've been playing with it for over a week. It felt a little more natural, a little more "street racing", and less "grand prix" racing, which is all I want in a video game. Highly recommended!

    Great Shifter Add-On!

This TH8S Shifter Add-on is a great addition to my racing wheel. It works with my wheel on two major gaming consoles and my PC. Setup is pretty easy too. There are two different ways to set this up. One way is to connect it from the shifter to the PC. The other way is to connect it from the shifter to the wheel. I will say that I had more success connecting to my PC from the shifter than anything. Once it was installed and hooked up, the fun began. I his shifter is like driving for real. The racing games that I play are both racetrack racing games and off road racing games and events. It’s so much fun and way more realistic than just using a controller, keyboard or wheel. This combination of wheel and shifter is the best way to race in gaming. It has 7 speeds and reverse. It’s frictionless and its very responsive. It’s a sports style like knob. It all makes your gaming experience better and comfortable. This shifter hooks onto the table or desk, and is very sturdy. It didn’t come loose at all, until I took it off.

I am not a great virtual racer, but ever since the PSVR2 was released, I’ve been dipping more into Gran Turismo 7 in VR. While the setup remains the same, when I’m racing, most of the time it’s with my Thrustmaster T128 connected to my PS5, and my PSVR2 headset. Sometimes though, I stick with driving on my TV. I also utilize a racing cockpit to hold my steering wheel and pedals. It’s a basic, cheap one, but luckily it has a spot for a shifter. It doesn’t have a built in seat. I offer my opinions to those who are like me: someone who is a casual racer and wants a cost efficient racing cockpit. As I said earlier, I have the T128 steering wheel. It’s a nice budget level steering wheel with force feedback. What it doesn’t have is a clutch pedal - just brake and gas. Honestly, I didn’t think this steering wheel could even accept a shifter because of the lack of a clutch pedal, but that’s luckily not the case. The TH8S shifter utilizes a clamp - much like the T128 steering wheel. It’s dead simple to use, and can attach to most tables and desks if you don’t have a racing cockpit. I have to recommend investing in a cheap racing cockpit (one with or without a seat) for the best experience. If you’ve ever driven a stick shift car in real life, you know that the shifter sits below the steering wheel, so it feels odd to have your video game steering wheel and shifter on the same level as one another - although it works. Honestly, if you’ve gotten this far and own a steering wheel, and are considering the shifter, you might as well take the next step to enhance the experience. In any event, onto the shifter. It’s mostly made of plastic, but it’s nice and sturdy. It’s not too large nor is it heavy. The shifting is smooth and easy. It goes up to 7 gears and has a slot for reverse as well. I wish there was a little more resistance in the shifting action to better mimic a real car, but that’s a minor quibble. When you’re in gear it doesn’t move much. And like a real car, when shifting up from your even gears (2nd to 3rd, 4th to 5th) it feels like it glides to the next gear. Basically, it’s really responsive when changing gears and I never had an instance where it didn’t move to the next gear. The shifter comes with two cables, one is a proprietary cable on both ends (looks similar to an old S-video cable if you’re familiar with that). The other cable is a USB-A to USB-C cable. The latter allows you to plug into your computer (to be clear, I didn’t plug my shifter into the computer, I played on the PS5). The proprietary cable plugs directly into the shifter and your compatible steering wheel. I had some issues plugging the cable into the steering wheel, but that was mostly because of my fat fingers. Luckily, I keep my setup plugged into my stand so I don’t anticipate unplugging it again. The cables aren’t terribly long, they have enough length to put the shifter within arms length of the steering wheel. Unlike my steering wheel (which I won’t get into here) I had no issues getting setup and ready to use the shifter. When plugged in, the steering wheel controller immediately recognized it. Again, my T128 doesn’t have a clutch pedal, which I wish I had, nonetheless, it was very much similar to shifting with the paddles on the steering wheel. I had no issues getting used to the absence of the clutch pedal - it didn’t seem like it took too much away from the realism. In the end, this is a useful addition to any racing simulation setup. It’s not too expensive and adds a certain level of realism that really makes simulation racing games - like Gran Turismo 7 - even more enjoyable.

This shifter is right in line with the quality that comes from Thrustmaster. I would consider this a mid-level beginner shifter. It is compatible with current consoles and PC. Although my primary use is with PC in iRacing so this review is for that specific scenario. Connections are easy to figure out as there are two ports on the front with a sliding cover that blocks off the unused port. Connecting to a PC is straightforward with a USB to USB-c cable provided. There is also another cable that is used to connect to a Thrustmaster Wheel base so that the shifter can be used the PS and Xbox. It is recognized right away by the PC. and there is only minor setup in game for it to function as it should. The feel is plastic like but not toy like. I mounted it to my racing sim rig and once mounted it feel rigid with litte to no play.. On the right hand side of the shifter there is a hole that access a flathead screw that can adjust the stiffness of the shift. The mount opening is 1.5" to accommodate most desk setups. There are no extra screw holes to mount it to a sim rig without using the provided mounting setup. This is not a problem as the mounting hardware and non slip pads keep it in place the metal plate that a shifter mounts to on my specific rig. The shift knob is securely mounted and cannot be changed, it feels like most standard car shift knobs. It would be nice to have the ability to change the shift knob to something that more resembles a racing shift knob. Overall for a mostly plastic shifter it does feel solid when shifting. The shift mechanism is metal which lends to the solid shifting feel. There is a cloth boot under the shift gate to keep dust and debris out of the moving parts. I would recommend this for anyone that is a casual driving gamer that would like a more realistic experience. Paired with one of the Thrustmaster entry level wheel bases this would be a much better setup to drive in games like Forza on Xbox or Gran Tourismo on Playstation than with a controller.

    Thrustmaster TH8S Shifter Add-On

I received the Thrustmaster TH8S Shifter Add-On, seems to be a sturdy build quality and easy to setup. The Thrustmaster TH8S gear shifter add-on is a nice way to add an extra layer of realism to your racing wheel setup. It is largely built from sturdy plastic, there’s a nice amount of weight that helps lock the shifter firmly in place when clamped to your desk or setup, too. The shifting stick itself features a metal shaft, which is ideal for resisting wear and tear. The shifting stick defaults to neutral position, just to the left of center. It can then be moved upwards through seven forward gears (one through seven), and there’s a dedicated reverse gear. It does take some getting used to, as you are physically shunting the stick between gear changes frequently, and trying to remember where each gear is located. there is learning curve involved for you, especially if you’re currently used to swapping gears via paddles on a racing wheel. Overall, If you enjoy using manual transmission to your favorite racers, it is worth considering for your racing wheel setup.

The TH8S is a budget friendly, entry level shifter that is a bit intriguing. Below are my thoughts: [PROS] Setup: Getting started with the shifter is pretty straight forward. You pretty much plug-n-play and then you're ready to go. What makes this an ideal add-on is the USB C connection found on the device that allows for connection with wheels from other manufacturers. Movement/Response: Despite the plastic construction, I am able to shift gears easily and fluidly without awkwardness. Furthermore, I was able to adjust the resistance level to a more firmer feel which I would highly recommend. On screen reaction to my shifting was very precise so I happy to know there wasn't any noticeable latency despite the cheaper price tag. [CONS] Build quality: It's not poorly built, but it is made up of plastic. I am slightly disappointed that even the included clamp was plastic. Because of the build, it doesn't provide the realism one would want to achieve in hardcore sim racing. [CONCLUSION] What the TH8S shifter lacks in look and feel is made up through performance. Despite it being plastic, nothing is truly lost when comes down to function. It can be mounted, modded, and adjusted to suit comfort levels. I prefer a sleeker, more premium shifter, but this definitely a suitable alternative.

I bought this shifter to replace a cheaper shifter from another brand that was all plastic. I must say, this is just as good as it's big brother, the TH8A, with the exception of no sequential shifting!! It's smooth, all metal and really allows you to feel the shift when you're trying to shift from one gear to the other!! Goodbye cheap version, I'm going to have this one for a long time on my secondary setup!!
