GO52

The GO52 is a good GPS, however it does have a learning curve. If you are used to a Garmin, then this interface is a good bit different, both good and bad. Points of interest are in categories, not unusual but it is a list instead of icons. So trying to select more common ones such as shopping or restaurants are near the bottom of the list since they are in alphabetical order. You can search without selecting the category but it takes longer to find. I had an old TomTom that got damaged and I replaced it with a Garmin until I wore it out. Thought I would try the TomTom again as I had good memories of it being a better experience than the Garmin. Now I am not so sure, but it may be just that over the years I got used to the interface with the Garmin. Overall I am pleased with the TomTom GO52 and would purchase it again. Just plan on a little time getting used to the interface. It is not as user friendly as the old TomTom I used or the Garmins.

I bought this one because my last one was so old it couldn’t update to the latest maps. So in that comparison the new one is outstanding. The only issue is the Bluetooth connectivity. It will take some trials, restarts, and reconnects to get everything working (90% of the time). But that’s only for the extra features, the gps and guidance works great.

I use this GPS daily at work. It's voice commands can be a little difficult to get to work but the hands free calls and reading me my messages outloud has been really nice. The screen glass is very smooth and responds well to inputs. I also liked how I can customize the order of the menu options to my liking, helping reduce time scrolling through the menu. It's fast to connect to satellite and the making overlay is clear and easy to understand.

I've owned about 5 of these things. I didn't look forward to buying another, but my VIA 1535 finally crapped out on me so I reluctantly searched for a replacement. My main concern about a new purchase was how to keep it updated. I don't use a PC anymore so I knew updating a new TomTom would be a problem. After a bit of research I decided to try the GO 52 because it promoted the ability to update via Wi-Fi.
My initial impression upon purchase was disappointment. The screen is smaller than what I was accustomed to. Fortunately. that's the only negative thing I can say about it.
The learning curve was longer than I expected. It took a bit of trial and error learning to correctly sync the GPS to my Android. (My progress improved immediately once I discovered AT&T was playing games with my data signal). Once I straightened that out it was smooth sailing.
After several weeks of using the GO 52 daily I can confidently say it's the best TomTom model I've owned so far.
* IT'S FAST. The GO 52 quickly determines routes. Alternative routes are determined just as fast. Very little lag in recalculating route if I deviate from recommended routes.
* ITS LOUD. I don't have to strain to hear directions.
* TRAFFIC DETAILS ARE SURPRISINGLY RELIABLE. I Ignored a recommended route home from work last week and ran straight into a construction detour. Glanced at my TomTom and there is was. Speed/red light cameras are acceptably current as well.
* ADDRESSES/POIs ARE EASY TO FIND. The GO 52 often anticipates my desired destination.
* Easy to navigate menu.
* Hands free calling (though I don't do much talking on the phone while driving).
* UPDATES ARE EFFORTLESS. Once set up, the GO 52 automatically connects to home Wi-Fi. "Updates & New Items" in "Settings" instantly alerts users to available updates. Simply accept and download.
* Improved touch sensitive screen. I'm not pounding the darn thing like I did with the VIA 1535.
Simply stated, the GO 52 is a great little standalone gps. Though I didn't look forward to buying a new TomTom, the features of this model is well worth the investment.

Great navigation and super easy to use. I've always had a TomTom and this one replaced my old one which decided to give out after 5 years. On a long trip, I prefer to use this vs our car navigation.

My son had an older unit and this was his Christmas present. I wanted a cheaper one but they were luckily out of stock. Free updates and blue tooth connection for his phone made all the difference. Great product.

Bit of a learning curve getting my TomTom to sync with my cell phone. After that using the gps became effortless. It even anticipates where I want to go if it determines my route to be part of a routine.
Traffic info is incredibly reliable. I'm learning to pay attention when it suggests I take an alternate route. Doing so prevents me from running smack dab into traffic jams.
Best of all, it's so easy to update. Connect to wifi and the unit quickly notifies me of available map, speed and red light
camera updates.
I've owned several TomToms. This is the best so far. Bought a 2nd one for my wife, she was so impressed.
Highly recommended.

I took it on a trip. Not fond of it waiting until you are within five miles of the next turn to tell you right or left and 2.5 miles before identifying the road. Also wanted me to turn the wrong way on a one way lane of divided highway. There are better models

I do a lot of driving, this gps is nice because it gives you a live traffic map so I can avoid stopped traffic on roads. Had a hard time pairing to phone Bluetooth and touch screen sometimes has slow response. Overall does what I bought it for.

Wow... totally disappointed in this product. I was expecting a tom-tom device but with all the new connectivity, screen and navigation changes it just was not a good product to have for me. I returned it and kept my old Tom Tom 590 device. They put too much connectivity in this and to have to plan a route from my phone doesn’t make sense to me. The reason I have a gps device is to not use my phone while I’m driving. I don’t want to see who’s calling and don’t care who is texting me...sure I figured out how to turn that off but didn’t like the new settings menu. Seems like TT Just complicated the whole experience in my opinion. Maybe a more expensive higher end version of this will be better but BestBuy didn’t have anything in stock to look at... can no one do anything right anymore? Bad design, bad layout and soured experience.

It was a Xmas present so I’ve only had a chance to use it a couple of times. Each time it worked great. Haven’t set up Bluetooth. All I use my GPS’s for is just to get from one place to another. Don’t need anything fancy

Good maps for us canada and mexico. Shows red light and speed cam on the way. But needs cell phone to show traffic updates, thus no comparision to your cellphone MAPS app.
