    Quite Surprising

I've had this about 6 months now and I will say I like it a lot! I originally bought it for surfing and watching movies (which is still it's primary function) but I have found that it is quite capable of more. I was able to play Guild Wars 2 at about 15-20 fps (on a memory card) and could use an on screen control program and it is totally viable to play around and grind with. Battery life while doing normal activities is great for the price. Everything seems solid and I have had no big issues. I have had issues with wifi not working but it almost seems to be a windows 8 issue as my other computers have had the problem as well.

While I was looking up info and reviews on this tablet I found reviews that said that the battery is awful and it turns off and won't turn on again then the other half said it works wonderfully. I figured there was a better chance it would work fine than not. The tablet worked fine. It was fast. It has a nice bright screen. The touch screen worked perfectly. Then a month or so after I got it the battery started acting up and draining very quickly. Now it only lasts for maybe a hour or two. If I set it to the side and not use it, even when it was previously fully charged, it will be dead when I pick it back the next day. I'm very very very disappointed that the tablet is as bad as the reviews said. Now the return period has passed and I'm stuck with a tablet that I can't even use for more than an hour. Very very disappointed.

Thank you for the review, Kate, and sorry to hear that you're experiencing an unusually short battery charge life with your Encore 2 tablet.

Please make sure you're using the included USB charging cable with a USB charger that provides at least 2 amps (10 watts) of power to ensure that it is capable of charging your Encore 2.

If you're sure your charger has the right specs, I recommend performing Windows Reset to resolve any issues caused by software or configuration changes. Make sure all personal files are backed up before performing a Windows Reset since it will remove any files added after the laptop left the factory.

Here are the steps for performing a Windows Reset:
      1. Shut down Windows (not Sleep mode)
      2. Hold down the plus (+) volume while powering on the Encore.
      3. Select 'Troubleshoot' from the "Choose an Option" prompt
      4. Select 'Reset Your PC'
      5. Select 'Fully Clean the Drive'

If this does not lead to a solution, please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for more help and, if needed, to make warranty repair arrangements.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

    Good tablet for street outreach

My employees are using this tablet to do street outreach work and collect data. For the most part this tablet does what we need it to do after installing Microsoft Access in order to collect data required.

Decent windows tablet, but slower than most

My recent tablet history includes the Dell Venue 8 Pro and its' larger sibling, the 11 Pro. I am an avid windows 8 user. This tablet is decent for the price. The on screen keyboard works very well, with minimal errors when typing, much like most windows based tablets. The build quality is excellent, as good as high end tablets. Feels rock solid. Good weight to it. Does not feel cheap at all. Screen is responsive when swiping or gestures. The bad: The 1gb of ram vs 2 or 3 gb's #todays standard for a good tablet# shows its weakness when loading sites such as youtube. Not sure why they downgraded the processor and the memory. Bad move, but overall the tablet works well. The little bit of lag when loading pages is annoying to me, since my Dell Venue 8 pro has no lag, with a better processor and more ram, just like the previous Encore tablet. The older Encore tablet also has an hdmi. I would look for one of those on clearance for a better windows tablet experience, or the Dell Venue 8 pro. ALSO: only comes with trial of Office. The Dell Venue line comes with free Office. Even though the screen is only 1280 x 800, the screen is very clear. Pictures look amazing, video even looks great. Unless you are a pixel snob, it will suffice. Marked a star for using old screen resolution. Screen angles are terrific, no light bleed or anything like that. No doubt a better experience vs Android. This is a tablet for grown ups or folks that are production based, not consumption based.

Purchased this Toshiba Windows tablet as a replacement for my fathers acer iconia tablet. Was really pleased with the exceptional price and the overall function of this tablet. The camera works very well for a tablet and its performance is decent for a daily use tablet.

I bought this tablet yesterday and was excited to receive it today. the tablet works great but after only 10 minutes of setting it up, the front and back of the tablet feels really hot. I recommend looking for something else and doing extensive research to make sure you know all the flaws!

I purchased my first encore 2 and in 20 days it went blank and would not turn back on returned it and got another one, I gave the encore another chance. This second one In ten days the on off button went inside the tablet and it would not come on any more ,but the most disturbing thing about this is the customer service rep. at Toshiba said it was my fault and they would not help me and considered the tablet out of warranty. Do not buy this product.
