For the price this is a great light duty laptop. I use it only the internet and for this it is very fast. It is as fast as my i7 quad core for this purpose. Do not use it for gaming since it only has the Intel graphics chip which is not very fast and a Celeron 1.8Ghz. It works well for 720 multimedia but won't do 1080 since it is only a 1366 x 768 screen but use headset since the speakers are lousy, but I haven't found any speakers that are good on any laptop. I don't use this for heavy duty graphics or multimedia so I don't know if can handle the job. . Windows 8 is terrible if you are used to Windows 7. Get a program like Classic Start 8 to emulate the Windows 7 desktop (more or less). I use a program called Start Menu X which emulates the Windows 7 environment better (IMHO). I upgraded to Windows 8.1 so it feels somewhat like Windows 7. I don't like the new Unified Extensible Firmware Interface since you cannot boot into the system with older software that only boots into BIOS. Some older utilities won't work also. I got this laptop for two reasons: since it was the most inexpensive way to learn Windows 8 and have an Internet computer. For this it was an excellent purchase from Best Buy. Just don't expect it to be a heavy duty computer. Convenience rating is for Windows 8 otherwise would be higher.

    Great inexpensive Laptop

I am very happy with it after tweaking the settings in windows 8. the only issue I have with the actual computer is the small space key, but I will get used to It. This is the 3rd windows 8 computer I have set up, and windows 8 Is actually nice once you get it set up. The most helpful thing I will tell you in this review ( the reason I am writing) is to 1st change the mouse settings under control panel. set pointer option to fast and buttons to fast. 2nd and more importantly TURN OFF swipe left edge, and switch between apps. these settings are found in the right menu screen then go to PC settings, general settings. this will fix the VERY OBNOXIOS behavior when using touchpad. which made the charms and win 8 menu pop up at random. I cannot degrade rating for this because I am sure it is a problem on every laptop with win 8. AS soon as you go off the edge of the pad and com back on, It loaded the last app or loaded charms VERY ANNOING. also I pretty much turned everything off in the settings except for a few basic functions, stopped all programs from loading on startup, got rid of BING and replaced it with GOOGLE for home page, then set the Wi-Fi connection to METERED The pc does what I want, when I want without using data, oh also set updates to priority, and no random program updates..... set up the desktop to have icons, my computer, control panel, dvd drive, pictures, video, downloads, documents, then put icons for my favorite web sites. now very user friendly till I decide to use charms, just like old windows versions.

This is a good entry level machine or as a solid back-up unit. The touch pad can be finicky so recommend using a wireless mouse when possible. As with most entry level units the battery life is not long enough but if you are using with AC Adapter most of the time this isn't an issue. Good connectivity with wireless systems. Would like to have found it available with Windows 7 rather Windows 8. Windows 8 setup is WAY too complicated and this machine would likely do better with fewer CPU demands.

I needed a new laptop for school (I am working on a doctorate), but didn't want to spend a fortune because I have a desktop as well. I hesitated to buy this laptop online even though the reviews were all good, so I stopped at a store. One of my concerns was that the keyboard would be too small, but I find it very easy to use. I was not crazy about having to learn Windows 8, but I found some articles online that gave some great tips and I picked it up faster than I thought I would. One big plus for Windows 8 is that the computer boots up and shuts down much faster than previous operating systems. I also purchased a wireless mouse to go with it because I just do not like working from a touch pad. The screen sharpness for showing photos is not that great and neither are the speakers, but I didn't purchase the computer for those uses.

Good, quick, basic laptop. Nothing fancy, but didn't want that. I am not used to Windows 8 yet, and don't find it nearly as user friendly as earlier versions. Not the computer's fault, though. One thing that bothers me is the power cord plugs in on the left side instead of the back like my other laptop. Also, there doesnt seem to be a scrolling function to the touch pad which I like. I got this for under 250. So far, so good.

I bought this laptop to use for going back for my Master's. So far so good. Very fast and reliable operation. Windows 8 was a little hard to get used to, but it's kind of nice. The sound was consistently bad compared to other reviews, however once I disabled the onboard equalizer (thanks to the advice of other reviews), the sound improved dramatically, and it is great thru the earbuds. The battery issue seems to be a big problem for Toshiba. When I got it, for the first few weeks, it wouldn't charge past 51%. Now, it won't charge at all. However, I followed Toshiba's warranty troubleshooter online, and they overnight-shipped a replacement battery for free and I have 30 days to return the defective part, all made very simple by Toshiba. Pretty good warranty service if you ask me. I just got the battery and am waiting for it to charge to test it. Overall, for the cost, I would buy the exact same thing again without question. If you need an inexpensive laptop for a few years of typical operation, buy it. I also found that Best Buy matched the lowest price I could find, so thanks for the rewards points too!

Great price, good computer but even for a laptop, the sound quality is poor. Windows 8 is irritating. If you get the mouse pointer on the wrong part of the screen, it changes screens, sometimes several screens. This is most annoying. The laptop is still a good value for the price..

The computer is solid and unspectacular. It does everything you would expect of the standard computer. For the price it it is a good product. While I would recommend it, I don't think I would buy it again. The S key gets stuck sometimes and that can be very frustrating. But for the price I shouldn't complain. Just be prepared. The construction isn't as good as my last Toshiba, but it is worth the price. If you want a really good computer look elsewhere, but it you want to pay less then $350, this is the route to go.

I have come to really like this pc. While this is not a high end laptop by any means. It performs well in everything except the more graphic intensive games. The case is flimsy and feels cheap. The sound on it is horrid which is not an issue with the speakers, but the sound card. Once I started using a USB sound card, the sound was dramatically better with headphones and external speakers. I am still not a fan of Windows 8 which comes loaded on the laptop, 8.1 is better but still leaves much to be desired.

Purchased this as a 35th anniversary gift for my hubby. It replaces the Toshiba laptop he has had for almost 8 years. He was really pleased with the price and the speed, picture, etc. Only learning curve is Windows 8!

I actually bought two of these, after getting over wanting to punch the screen because of Windows 8 operating system we love them. If your sensitive to touch sensations, the internal mouse has a unique texture. My son is Autistic (Age 13) and I was worried he would hate it but so far he has not had a problem and seems to understand Windows 8 better than I do. The second computer was purchased for my sister who is also mentally challenged and she loves her too but we had to but her a mouse. We also hooked up the Xbox account very easy so that was another bonus. Power, battery life, storage space, dvd player etc.... are great. Good buy for what we needed.

Overall great laptop for general purposes like email, word docs, and communication with Skype. For the price your getting a bang form your buck. Only bad thing I have to say is just the windows 8 operating system. In order to navigate through the windows 8 system I had to use YouTube to learn how to use it. Other than that awesome laptop for what I need.

This is a good budget laptop. This isn't a laptop for everybody. If you basically do word, browse the internet, quicken, and things that do not required a lot of performance, then this is a laptop that will work for you. Especially being at under $250, it is a worth the $$. If you need performance, I suggest looking at something with better specs.

Great computer that has all the needed basics with a couple of nice bells and whistles thrown in. Great for students who need web access, emails and basic windows programs. Enough juice to play some games and watch movies ect. Was short on cash when my college student's machine went down, was very pleasantly surprised to find a quality machine so affordable. Great stuff

    No wifi Signal

I loved this laptop until it was time to connect to my wifi. The connection would NEVER last pass 20 minutes without dropping completely or having a limited signal and this was while sitting in front of my router. If you pick up this laptop and you get one with no signal problems then you have struck gold. Everything about this laptop was wonderful except the unreliable wifi connection. I tried over 4 to 5 different trouble shooting methods. 1- unchecking the box under the network adapter, 2 disabling Norton virus firewall, 3 installing every update to the toshiba laptop, 4 setting the setting to maximize so wifi won't be interrupted 5 resetting the laptop to factory setting. I received the laptop on the 7th of November and packed it today November 16th to bring it back to BB personally. Guys if you have an issue with a laptop you only have 15 days to give it back for a full refund from the time you received the item. If your laptop came with free stuff do not ever open the free stuff until you make sure the laptop is working. This laptop came with free skull candy $60 over the head- headphones and I did not open them, so they will also be returned first thing November 17th. But like I said this seems like one of those hit or miss items. If the wifi had worked I would say this would have been a great laptop.

I was looking for an extra laptop for the kids to use at a reasonable price and this laptop was the perfect purchase. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I had to return the first one because the battery was defective and would not charge. No problems with the second laptop.

I had to replace my 5 year old Toshiba satellite and this one is perfect. I love the new keyboard layout. I also like the all black look - it does not scratch as easy as previous models. The HD truebrite display is unbelievable and the HDMI port is just icing on the cake. I went to five best buys in order to buy one, all of the other stores were sold out. The 229.00 price is unbeatable. Best buy is truly the best if you are looking for a new laptop. Not even Walmart and Sams can compete with their computer products.

I bought this for my college student son when his old laptop died. He and I were surprised by the performance for using MS office applications and Internet research. Everything works well. The built in camera is a little pixelated due to its low resolution but is adequate for Skype. The speaker sound was a little weak but I wound some settings on the Internet that helped. It come with MS 8.0, which takes some getting used to. He upgraded to 8.1, which has the "start" button. If this is the type of work you need a laptop for I highly recommend this product.
