    Best computer I could find

Hadn't ever heard of this make of computer. Shopped around a few stores and brands, got to the Best Buy, checked out all the computers, and no other computer offered all this for under $800. Optical drive is great for watching movies on the beautiful 1920 display, and also for installing software CDROMs. Excellent Harmon Kardon speakers. The 8GB of RAM expandable to 32 and processor are tops, and allow me to run multiple instances of all my graphic intensive programs like ArcGIS while running python scripts in the background, and internet surfing. The full size keyboard is really quiet and the casing materials(brushed aluminum) are really nice and sleek, and make the computer a pleasure to use. Did I mention the screen is really really beautiful? As far as durability; dropped the thing several feet once onto the cement, and no apparent damage. Really a great desktop replacement computer, and should fulfill all my computing needs for the next few years, anyways. I use it for everything, including my research, which coincidentally, involves processing satellite data.

If you want a 17" MacBook Pro, buy this laptop

I should have said "if you want a 17" MacBook Pro (without a dedicated video card and OS X), buy this laptop". This is so stated because that's why I bought it...to replace a MacBook Pro. And the Toshiba P75-A7200 is doing a great job of that. To be clear, all the software I use has both Mac and Windows versions in the box, so while one platform or the other could have been used, Macs were just used out of preference. But--when it came time to replace that 15" MacBook Pro--I wanted a powerful 17" MacBook, NOT a retina display. With that being impossible, I searched for an alternative. Mind you, the ONLY PCs I personally endorse are the higher-end (not bargain models) Sony VAIOs and Toshibas. So I started with Toshiba and found this one. First off, it is NOT a stereotypical gamer box. I use it for Graphic, Web and Multimedia Design. Gamer boxes usually have large (1GB VRAM or better) dedicated cards, this does not. It has an Intel Integrated HD 4600 video processor...which I find to be bright, functional and quite responsive to my particular needs. Having said that, depending on the types of games one might play on it, it could be just what one could get by on. Second, if your workflow requires Apple software that runs ONLY on a Mac (Garageband, for example) and you cannot find and/or are presently unable to procure an equivalent software package for Windows, then by all means, stick with a Mac. I'm using Mixcraft as my Garageband replacement and it's running great on this Toshiba. Third, the shortcomings are mitigated by the fact that the P75-A7200 is marketed as a "desktop replacement" not a "light, on-the-go" laptop. I'm an apartment dweller and need something that has a small footprint and can be stored away when not in use. Battery life? 9 out of 10 times it will be plugged in anyway. The only complaint I've seen that most people have is the fact that it comes with Windows 8.1. I haven't had a problem with the operating system as yet. The P75-A7200 COMES with 8GB under the hood. Granted, you'll have to send it away to Toshiba to upgrade it to it's full 32GB of RAM option. This is because the slots where the initial 8GB are almost unreachable to anyone but Toshiba. However, you CAN add 16GB to two easily accessible slots (as outlined in the manual). This makes the P75-A7200 upgradeable to 24GB by the average person, but to 32GB only by Toshiba. It also comes with an additional drive bay. No having to install complicated kits; it has a space ready to take an additional 2.5" drive (SSD or otherwise, SATA interface) up to a data size of 1.5TB. If you want to cut video, I'd think about that (and I did). It also has FOUR usb 3.0 (5gb/s throughput - "Faster than Firewire") ports on it and a SD card reader. The above is my rationale for having bought this laptop. My software regimen include a mix of open-source solutions (Blender, GIMP, Lightworks, et al) and proprietary packages (Mixcraft, Lightwave, Hitfilm, Sketchbook Pro, Adobe...) and I have yet to encounter a problem. My MacBook replacement is doing just fine.

I purchased this Toshiba 17.3" laptop for my home desk top computer and I'm very happy with the purchase. I get a 1080P monitor, 4th generation i7 Intel chip, 8 gigabyte of RAM and a back-lit keyboard for $800.00. What's not to like? I love the look and I love the performance. There could be a bit less bloat ware but that's pretty normal. All in all I'm very pleased with my purchase of the Toshiba P75-A7200 17.3" laptop. Great Value!

This is a wider laptop than the typical size, (17"), so it has a very nice- sized screen; and, with the additional width, you also get larger letter keys and a separate numeric keypad that you would typically see only on a full-sized keyboard. I do lots of numeric entry on work that I do, so I really like having the full numeric keypad to the right side of the QWERTY keyboard (that has all the letters and the typical U.S. keyboard layout.) The keys all have a positive touch feeling to them too. This Toshiba's case area is deep enough on the front that it allows me to actually rest my wrists on case (like a wrist-rest for a standard keyboard) to reduce strain on my wrists. I also like the fact that the touchpad does NOT have the separate buttons on it to click and double-click. (My old Toshiba had them, and I was forever hitting them with my wrists -- when I did NOT want them.) You just tap with your fingers on the pad to get the click and double-click functions (if you want to use the touchpad instead of an external mouse). The only thing I really don't like about the system so far has to do with some areas in the keyboard design. The keyboard areas that are less user-friendly are: 1) having "tiny" keys on the top row of the keyboard, 2) having to use the "FN" (alternate function) key in combination with the tiny keys on the top row to access function keys that I use in my work and also to access the PRTSC -- print screen function, a.k.a. "screen capture" -- that I frequently use for illustrative work, and 3) having the "Del," "Home," "End," "Pgup," and "Pgdn" all the way at the top of the of the keyboard -- with all of them (except the "Del" key) located directly above the numeric keypad. I am still trying to get used to having to add the use the "FN" key to get to a number of keyboard features that I only had to use one key to use on my old Toshiba. Oh yeah, it came pre-loaded with Windows 8 (Grrrr!!!) and a whole bunch of junk on the Win8 screen -- which I promptly unpinned from the screen and removed some of it that would interfere with my normal system use. Unless you have a touch screen (& this one does NOT have a touch screen), Windows 8 is pretty much a pain. I have found how to avoid to the Win8 launch screen and am working on a regular basis from the desktop. Other than some areas of the the keyboard design and Windows 8 junk you have to get around, it's a great system with lots of power and speed to do what you need to get done at a very reasonable price.

    Best Laptop Ever

I purchased this laptop as an open-box special, after finding out it was a display model. I could not have been happier with my purchase. Although I found out shortly after buying it that the battery was a) dead and b) not the correct battery, the department manager had me come in, purchase a new battery from Toshiba on my smartphone while in the store, and then immediately reimbursed me the cost of the new battery (plus shipping) in cash. Always look for open box deals!! Anyway, as for the computer--it's incredibly fast, the Harman Kardan speakers are some of the best I've ever heard in a laptop, and the display is even better than my HDTV. My only complaint is that it gets too warm too fast--which has no effect on performance, but makes me worried about the long-term life of the motherboard. So I purchased a cooling mat for $14.99 from Best Buy that runs via USB (which, by the way, I was so excited to find that ALL FOUR USB ports on this computer are USB 3.0) and I haven't felt it get more than just slightly warm ever since. I can't recommend this computer enough, and I can't stop preaching the praises of the Best Buy staff (as well as the Toshiba customer service reps) who have assisted me since my purchase.

Looking for a replacement laptop for over a year, I wanted a four core i7 with lots of RAM, and a full HD display. This computer fits all my requirements and more. Having an available second hard drive bay, I swapped out the factory 750GB hard drive with a SSD for the primary drive and formatted the factory drive as a storage drive (just be sure to burn your recovery disc first - going to need that for your replacement OS drive). I primarily use it for audio and some video editing and nothing has bogged this laptop with multiple applications open. I highly recommend it. Windows 8 is not my preference but works.... Battery life is OK - won't last you the whole day.

This is my sons Xmas gift and graduation gift combined. He plays lots of video games so needs lots of memory for graphics and this has plenty. It is lightning fast, great screen, lightweight, thin design and it's a Toshiba which is my favorite brand, never had any issues with any of my other Toshiba's.

I had issues with the first two computers I received. The first didn't perform its initial start up properly, and had some other operating issues, including USB ports not working. On the second one, the thin metal piece inside the memory card reader was bent, and was shaving my memory cards, if I could even insert them. The third one has been pretty perfect as far as operation goes. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but combined with this computer, it is very fast and smooth. Very few compatibility issues with programs so far. Start up, whether from hibernation, or complete shut down is much faster than any of my previous computers. It also runs MUCH cooler than any hp I have had. The display and sound quality are wonderful. I just wish it had a blue-ray player. The battery life seems like it could use some improvement, but I've also sacrificed some of it for performance. The extra hard drive port and memory slots provide excellent upgrade possibilities as well. Though a bit frustrating at the beginning, I would still recommend this product.

I am apple fan. I love their products. Especially their computers, but when I switched majors in school, after three years of using my MacBook Pro, I had to get a windows computer to be able to run the applications for the classes that were specific to my major. I looked at several different computers on bestbuy.com and all the lower end models were sucky then I came across this one. The specs were high and the customer reviews were high so I thought it would be a good computer. Despite the fact that it has windows(remember, OSX fan here), it is a really nice computer. The size is a little bulky, but it runs fairly smoothly, the screen is bright and colorful, enough room to work on the applications for my classes and it is pretty fast. I am still ultimately an OSX lover, but for what I needed for my classes and what I might need for for the future that this degree will hold I think this will do me well and happy with my. I would recommend this to a friend who could use a good laptop for school or day to day use and actually helped a friend choose a laptop that looks almost like this one, but smaller and with a touch screen and she loves it. If you are thinking about a new, windows pc go for this one. It'll do you well

Fast Laptop With 4th Gen Processor

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This laptop contains the latest and greatest Intel 4th Generation i7 processor code named Haswell. It is pretty fast and the boot time is generally under 10 seconds, even though there is no solid state drive. It has four USB 3.0 ports, two on each side and an HDMI out port. The screen is listed as 1080p, but I honestly can't tell the difference between this screen and the 720p screen on my old Sony VAIO. There is no touch screen on this model, but that doesn't seem to be a hassle with Windows 8 as you can use your mouse to move, select, and open the tiles on the home screen. It has a Microsoft logo button on the bottom left of the keyboard that sends you to the home screen with the tiles. MS removed the start button in Windows 8, so everyone is waiting for v8.1 which replaces it. It's kind of clumsy to navigate some of the apps and the App Store is very limited. Don't go buying this PC while thinking it has as many apps as Apple or even Android. You will end up going thru the browser because many important apps are missing and those that are available lack full functionality of the corresponding website. What's nice is that Toshiba provides extra free apps that they designed, like a Media Player. This machine does have a removable battery and the life is about 2 1/2 hours as opposed to the 3 hours advertised. Be careful...not all Toshiba laptops have a removable battery. Wireless AC internal cards are coming, but this model doesn't have that. I would have preferred a 15 or 16 inch screen as the 17 inch on this is really too big, but other models didn't have the other features I wanted. The touchpad pointing device is kind of clumsy as you have to click in the lower left or right corner and dragging items requires two fingers. I solved this by plugging in a USB mouse. The Harman Kardan speakers are loud are the sound quality is very good.

I love this laptop. I use it for work and home functions. The computer is solid, nice looking and has a great display. The keyboard is comfortable and number pad is very handy. 4- usb's and card reader allow me to move lots of data between many devices. Back lit keyboard is a bonus. Battery life has been pretty good so far. Hard drive protection lets you know when the ride is to bumpy. Windows 8 is fine. It takes a little getting used to. I still don't get the whole app thing. What ever. I have deleted a ton of shopping and movie and game apps that will just be taking up space. Also, Best Buy advertised this to come with Norton Antivirus, they gave me Web-root. Reviews say Web-root is good but miserable to uninstall. Didn't bother with it and went with a very good rated FREE Anti-virus program. Overall, I would highly recommend this laptop.

Why Microsoft chose to force Windows 8 on non-touch screen users is beyond me. There really isn't anything good I can say about it. With that said, and once I figure out how and WHERE all my controls and settings are located, I'm sure this laptop will be tops! As it is, I'm having issues with my wireless getting dropped whenever computer wakes up from sleep. Here's what I love: Display, display controls (I was able to adjust my fonts, themes, etc. easily), keyboard is very comfortable and a large reason I purchased this computer was for the backlit feature. Not sure whether the "Sky Drive" and Norton anti-virus are free or just "free" previews so will have to look into that. For Windows 8 disaster, I have already upgraded to the 8.1 preview, it gives you a "pseudo start" button that must be right-clicked to see normal Windows "places". Otherwise not a major improvement. I was able to fumble around on first-use and click on desktop tile, then I set up my desktop sort of like I was used to seeing it. Still I have to go through the "tile" screen to access my desktop. It's also very elusive for awhile on how to shut down your computer.

Although the battery life on this machine is somewhat limited, I don't find it to be an issue as I rarely use it unplugged. The screen size, lighted keyboard and everything else though ... I love! The first thing I did was add a new hard drive and more memory in the available slots. It was the easiest upgrade I've ever experienced with a laptop as the slots and bay were easy to reach by just popping off the back. The only issue I had was that my 1.5V RAM would not work due to a bios issue, so I had to purchase 1.35V RAM from another vendor (BestBuy didn't have any in stock). Now I'm rocking 16GB RAM and 1.5TB space. Awesome! I don't game a great deal, but I do play World of Warcraft and The Sims 3 and have no issues with either game. Sims is on high settings, WoW is on medium. It also manages everything else I throw at it with ease. I haven't touched my desktop computer since buying this.

I was shopping for a machine with a good processor and this was the best for the price that was available at the time. It has a nice screen which is fantastic for working on (word, excel documents, analysis programs specific to my work). The downside is that (comparable to other new products on the market these days) it has a low-ish battery life. I probably get 2-3 hours out of it while using it for internet and analysis combined. It's also on the large side- it only just fits into my rucksack although it is fortunately not too heavy. I think it's a good machine for someone who does not need to carry it around every single day and use it off battery a lot. For me, it's been great so far.
