The WiFi Mesh I've Been Waiting 2 Years For!!

I just upgraded to this new mesh WiFi 7 system. I work in IT, so I'm fully aware that WiFi 7 isn't certified yet. I'm not too worried about that. This system is exactly what I've patiently been waiting for: a mesh system with MULTIPLE multi-gig ports and 160Mhz channel width support. Netgear Orbi does not support 160Mhz channel width. What does this mean? Your WiFi 6 devices can connect at 2.4Gbps speed if they have 2x2 MIMO antenna with 160Mhz channel support. When WiFi 7 devices come out, they will support 320Mhz channel width. Anyway, on to the quick review. I have all 3 of the BE85 units connected via ethernet for wired backhaul support. All 62 devices in my home connected flawlessly, and my WiFi 6 laptop is roaming seamlessly around the house. I get 950 - 1200Mbps download speed over WiFi. I get 2,300Mbps download speed over wired ethernet on my 2Gig fiber connection. My Ring cameras outside have rock solid connections. My doorbell camera has a network connection RSSI -31. Driveway cam has RSSI -52. Most common devices in a person's house I would say range from -40 to -70 for a signal strength. The higher the number, the worse the signal strength. When devices start to reach -71 and beyond, your devices can and will start to lose connections. The closer to 0, the BETTER the signal strength. Seeing my doorbell camera with a -31 signal strength, that is phenomenal! This is an insane amount to pay for a 3-piece mesh router setup, but you have to look at the hardware that is being offered. This is the price you pay to be an earlier adopter. I've literally been waiting 2 years for mesh WiFi with these features. I've had TP-Link mesh WiFi for 2-3 years now. In my opinion, if you can wire all the mesh units together for ethernet backhaul support, TP-Link is one of the BEST mesh WiFi systems you can buy. They offer seamless roaming around the house and my connection has been stable on the M5 units. Let's hope BE85 units offer the same consistency.

Great and powerful wifi system, so far wifi really steady. I was having issues with my traditional routers ( new one, wifi 7 ) and my house has thick walls, therefore my electronics were having issues getting the signal, or at least steady signals. With this system, OH MY GOD !!!! Amazing, powerful wifi, my electronics getting strong signal, and so far not a drop of signal at all. White color and Elegant nodes and they blend with the surrounding, the tiny light at the bottom of 'em is deem, discreet and not annoying at all. Set up is ridiculously very easy, you need to download the Deco App, and from there it guides you step by step until your whole system is up and running. Awesome mesh wifi system !!!.

    TP-Link Deco BE85 Review

I purchased this amazing mesh system in June. I wanted to give some time so I can give a true review. First, I want to say that I replaced my Eero Pro 6 with this system. I did not have any problems with my Eero and highly recommend Eero to anyone. I upgrade my internet plan with Frontier from 1gig to 2gig and almost purchased the Pro 6e, but didn’t like the fact that the max wired speed was basically 2gig. There is no room for future upgrade speed if I wanted to 5 gig through my ISP and would have to buy another mesh again. It is just my personal preference. Now my review for Deco BE85. The box presentation is impeccable. TP-Link did not hold out on the presentation. Setup is simple. Downloaded the app first and just follow the instructions. I plugged one node(The main router) into my wall outlet first. All nodes are interchangeable and the one hooked up to your ISP will be the main. I also want to advise that my infrastructure is telephone line that the tech converted the ends to Ethernet. Telephone line is rated Cat 5e and can do speeds up to 5 gbps at a short distance. That was the best way without having to wall fish Ethernet line or drilling holes. Once the main was set up, I plugged in the second node and followed the instructions. I do not have the third plugged in because the two nodes cover my whole house. All three suppose to cover over 9,000 sqft. That’s a mansion lol. The second node I am doing a wireless back haul and it is located in my office. Overall, this system has been great. It has been about 30 days and no issues. Wired speeds are awesome and all my Wi-Fi 6 devices is almost getting a gig on speed test. This system is really future proof. Once Wi-Fi 7 device are available, I will not have to upgrade.

Bought these because my old router kicked the bucket, and it was time for an upgrade. Didn't actually care that they were "WiFi 7", I just wanted units that had two 10GbE ports. These have exceeded all expectations. I pay for Comcast "Gigabit" internet. On my prior router, obviously I could only get 1 Gigabit maximum, since it only had Gigabit Ethernet for its internet port (it did have one 10 GbE port for LAN.) On these? I set one base up as the primary, with the Comcast modem on one of the 2.5 GbE ports. Then set one of the boosters/repeaters up about 40 feet away through multiple walls. Then connected my laptop up to a 2.5 GbE port on the booster. (Laptop has 2.5 GbE.) I got 1.8 Gbps. That astonished me. I figured there was no way WiFi was actually capable of >1 Gbps now. Obviously I was wrong. Humorously, I plugged in 2.5 GbE backhaul between the primary and the booster, and my speed test went *DOWN*. Heck, on my old router, which was theoretically capable of >1Gb over WiFi, even locally between a "WiFi 6E" laptop right next to the router and a 10 GbE server plugged in to the router's one 10GbE port, I couldn't top 1 Gbps. And through multiple walls? Forget even 500 Mbps.

The Deco BE85 BE22000 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System (3-Pack) units supports Wi-Fi 4 (theoretical speeds up to 600mbps), 5 & 6 (theoretical speeds up to 8640 Mbps on 5GHz Band, and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz Band with max 160MHz bandwidth) and the newly, almost approved 7 (theoretical speeds up to 11520 Mbps). Each unit has 2 cooling fans to help with thermal loads and 8 high gain antennas, 12 high power FEMs and Quad-core CPU. There was no noticeable sound from the unit. It seems each unit can operate as a base or satellite, allowing for multiple set-ups. Each has 2 - 2.5 Gbps Wan/Lan, 1 – 10 Gbps Wan/Lan, 1 10Gbps + SFP (fiber optic connection) combo and 1 – USB 3.0 connection. Wireless or wired backhaul. IPV6 compatible. Security is WPA3, TP-Link Home Shield Pro (extra cost after 1 month free). Wi-fi 7 allows for MLO (Multi-link Operation), 3 channels at 320Mhz broadband, 4-K QAM, Multi-RU and MU-MIMO. Each band supports 4 streams and supports beamforming. Each unit is 9.29 inches tall and 5.04 inches wide – and is hefty at almost 13 lbs. Specs indicate it supports up to 3 satellites, since it comes with three it is unclear if that means you can add 1 more or not. Can have up to 200 connections total – I have at least 35 connected at any one time and up to 50 with no issues. If you want the system can take care of itself – but you can dig into the settings if needed. Suffice to say that this system has you covered literally (techwise) and figuratively (9000 sq ft. of coverage). I have installed several base and mesh Wi-Fi systems over the years, and this is by far the easiest to install and has the widest coverage and fastest speeds. The system comes nicely packaged with each unit having a power cable (with in-line brick), one RJ45 ethernet cable and a very small quick installation guide (I was reaching for my most powerful reading glasses). Using QR code provided in guide I installed app on my android phone and followed screen prompts. The Wi-fi 7 connection requires a different name – it took my Wi-Fi 6 name and added _6GHz. Adding satellites was as easy as plugging in and waiting a minute or 2 for each to be recognized - that was it. I really like that the power/connection indicator is at the bottom of the unit (pulse yellow it is resetting, pulse blue it is ready for setup, solid blue deco is setting up, pulse green it is updating firmware, solid green means good to go, pulse red it is disconnected, solid red – it has “issues”). Others mesh units I have used have had indicators on top – so if unit was placed high it was hard to see. One word of advice if replacing an existing Wi-Fi – make sure you document the name of the existing network and password exactly! Use the same when installing new network and all devices should reconnect themselves – saves a lot of time and make sure you check for firmware updates. The app itself is nicely designed where you can see what devices are connected to what base or satellite(s) access wi-fi settings, test internet speed, name each device, select which band a device should connect with or auto, etc. Provides a weekly report for devices added and parental controls (if using). It also provides a scan of the network checking touter and wireless security. It does not appear there is any way to do any remote administration using computer or browser interfaces. Which is very disappointing. While the system allows for blazing speeds – it can’t provide any faster speed than you are paying for from your internet provider - currently I have 300 down and 30 up. Using wired connection my desktop reached 330 and 31. Using Wi-Fi 6, on my phone, I had same speeds 5 feet from base. Where this mesh system shines is I now get same 330 and 31 speeds everywhere in the house and in the front or back yards. Now that I have this type of coverage, I am considering upgrading my speed – a “hidden cost” as I now want to have the fastest speed I can get! There are only 1 or 2 devices available that can use Wi-fi 7 (802.11be) – so could not test that. But in researching it seems it will be 13x faster than Wi-fi 5 and almost 5 x faster than Wi-fi 6. Comes with free base Home Shield security but can upgrade to Pro with monthly/yearly fee. I don’t need the extra functions Pro can provide. If you work from home, make video calls, stream 4k, view the internet, access email, update computers (which seem constant), etc. and need to do all at the same time – this will handle it no problem. 2-year warranty. While the cost of unit(s) is rather high, Wi-fi 7 connection requires a different name (might be combined in future updates?) and only phone app administration is currently available - are concerns to be sure. But if you consider each can be used as a base or any combination together for mesh system, the ease of installation, speed, etc. – I think it is well worth it – and highly recommend.

The TP-Link Deco is our first tri-band mesh WiFi system, though we have used dual-band mesh systems in the past. This is by far the most powerful system we’ve used for our home network in terms of total bandwidth and coverage; it is IPv6 compatible and supports 11520 Mbps, 8640 Mbps, and 1376 Mbps on 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHZ bands respectively. While my current routers already support channel widths of 160 MHz, the Deco could potentially double that capacity as it is capable of 320 MHz on the 6 GHz band. The BE22000 Deco System includes three BE85 routers and is rated to cover 9600 sq ft and connect over 200 devices. The system is expandable by adding more Deco access points, and the number of nodes you can use is technically unconstrained. However, performance may be hindered with too many nodes, so TP-Link recommends no more than 6 per network. I like that all the units have four WAN/LAN auto-sensing RJ45 ports to connect with the modem and/or client devices. Each one has a WPS button, two 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports, two 10 Gbps Ethernet ports: one of which is a combo port with the SPF+ fiber port, and a USB 3.0 port for adding networked devices like printers and hard drives. Connected USB storage devices can also be used as the backup disk for Apple’s Time Machine for MacOS devices. The router has no on/off switch and will simply power on when plugged in. There is a status LED at the front of the base, just below the logo. The color and flashing pattern will show its current status, though it is typically a solid green when working correctly. Unfortunately, the status light cannot be dimmed or disabled so placing a node in a bedroom may not be the best choice for those sensitive to light pollution at night. Since the three routers are identical, it doesn’t matter which one you decide to setup as the primary; just connect it directly to your modem using the included flat WiFi 6 cable. You’ll need to download the Deco app to a mobile device and proceed with setup in the app after registering an account or logging in. Setup takes a mere 5 minutes and once the main router is setup, you simply choose a spot for the satellite nodes, plug them in, and they will set themselves up within a few minutes. We placed the primary node on our third story and each of the satellites roughly in the middle of the floors below. We usually experience significant signal strength and speed drops on the first floor, especially at the limits of the property, but the Deco really surprised us with the strength of the signal in places we usually see dead spots and drop offs. When comparing the data transfer speeds between our previous WiFi 6 Mesh system and the Deco, it was nearly double. We saw average download and upload speeds of over ~500Mbps and ~25Mbps respectively everywhere within the property and usable speeds of 50Mbps down/16 Mbps up at the margins, four stories down and 120 ft away from the main router. According to the network map, the router on the first floor is able to wirelessly backhaul directly to the main router rather than use the node on the second floor as an intermediary hop. We have over 50 smart/IoT devices from outlets, to lights and switches, as well as all of our screens and media devices connected to our network and have experienced less congestion in the network as well as improvements in stability and reliability. You can even create a dedicated WiFi network just for IoT devices, however, I didn’t see an option to create a limited/restricted guest network. While the 5 GHz channel operates on 160 MHz bandwidth by default, you can set it to use 80 or 240 MHz to avoid interference, though be aware that clients that don’t support the higher DFS frequency channel width may not be compatible, and it could cause connectivity issues if you live near an airport as this range overlaps with radar systems. You also have the option to enable MLO which allows WiFi 7 clients to connect to multiple bands simultaneously to achieve faster connections speeds and reduce latency. If you don’t have any WiFi 7 capable devices, you can set the system to use the 6 GHz channel as a dedicated wireless backhaul in order to maintain consistent speeds at each node. Just note that you cannot enable both MLO and dedicated wireless backhaul at the same time. If you prefer, you have the option for 10 Gbps wired backhaul instead; just note that when using the combo 10Gbps/SPF+ ports, only one type will work at a time. The Deco app is user-friendly and easy to navigate. You’ll use it to modify WiFi settings, enable device prioritization, create static routing rules, setup VPN, WPS and more. I choose WPA2/WPA3 Personal WiFi encryption to ensure that devices that are capable use the latest security standard while still allowing some of our older legacy devices to connect until we no longer use or have them. Built-in parental controls help you protect your kids by allowing you to set time controls, monitor usage, pause internet to specific devices on-the-fly, block websites or filter URLs by content type. You can create separate profiles for each child as well, and then assign devices to each profile. The system came with a 30-day trial of HomeShield Pro, TP-Link’s monthly subscription that provides web, intrusion, and IoT protection against hackers and malicious websites. You’ll also get expanded parental controls and additional reports on usage as part of the service. Overall, the Deco WiFi 7 Mesh System is a nice upgrade from our previous one, with faster internet speeds throughout our home, more consistent and reliable connections for seamless roaming, and plenty of additional settings and parental controls built-in. Setup was quick and simple, and we get excellent coverage even outside of the home.

Wifi 7 - finally here! I've been waiting a couple of years since first reading about it, now all I have to do is wait for my devices to catch up with my network! This set is rather reminiscent of modern art-deco rather than looking like your traditional wifi router setup. Setup was rather easy for me since I deal with networking at the office every day - your mileage may vary though depending on your knowledge levels. It seems I am upgrading my home network every year, so, I've become rather familiar with how I need things setup for everything on my home network to function how I am used to it. Different from my last mesh router - this setup can have a wired backhaul instead of wireless. The wired backhaul is not needed unless you want to eliminate all but the slightest amount of latency. I personally haven't seen the need to run cabling through the house from access points to the main router, but there are those of you that push the limits of distances with the mesh setup - by going wired you'll extend the range that much further. Once everything was setup I ran all possible updates to get any firmware to the latest revision that may have come out since the router rolled off the factory floor. Afterwards everything has been running exceptionally fast and smooth and even that much further than with my previous WiFi 6E setup. Now all I need to do is get devices that fully take advantage of the WiFi 7 standards and I'll be ready to rock and roll! Great setup, TP-Link ! Highly recommended!

The Deco BE85 is an amazing and extremely powerful router. [SETUP] Getting started with the TP Link Deco WiFi 7 Mesh Router was a breeze. After strategically placing each router node, the device powered up and was immediately added to the system through the app. App setup was done within 7-8 minutes. Furthermore, I was able to change WiFi band settings effortlessly for devices that require 2.4 GHZ network band for setup. [PERFORMANCE & FUNCTIONALITY] I've been extremely impressed by the efficiency of the Mesh System. The antennas on these devices are extremely strong. My ISP provider doesn't support multi-gigabit connection yet so speeds max out at 1 Gbps. On a 2000+ sqft property, I still maintained rate of 918 mbps while away from the central node located upstairs. Another added benefit is that the mesh system has given my network switch breathing room by containing additional (and the same amount) ethernet ports on each node. [DRAWBACKS??] Really there aren't any negative aspects other than WiFi 7 benefits can't be fully grasped until a year or so. However, this device does enhance the abilities of WiFi 6 and WiFi 6 devices while providing stability. In conclusion, this is a magnificent mesh system so far. Although Wi-Fi 7 is not widespread by any means, the signal strength and speed is enough for me to recommend.

TP-Link Deco BE85 (BE22000) tri-band WiFi 7 mesh router. This newest router has huge potential but you will be looking for upgraded network devices to take advantage of all this speed. I never thought my switches and cable would be the slow components in my network! I had been very impressed with my most recent mesh router from another brand. But, you know, where speed and reliability is the goal, and media quality comes with huge bandwidth demands, you can always use more capability. So, it was with both anticipation and some angst that I took down my nice mesh system and set up this TP-Link Deco BE85 (BE22000). How complicated will this be? How much improvement? Wow. No need to fear. The TP-Link appears to deliver on every promise. Crazy fast. Ridiculously easy to set up. And as I’ve seen with every leap forward, software and firmware upgrades mean I can expect ongoing improvements. SETUP: Turn off my existing routers and disconnect. Unplug my previous router from the ISP’s Point-of-Entry. Swap the first Deco mode into the same position. True everything on and follow the instructions on the TP-Link Deco App. Make a new account. Create a network name with password. Add other nodes by simply plugging them in. Done. Everything works. Didn’t take 30 minutes. FEATURES: I lack the technical expertise to know the full implications of all of the capabilities of this TP-Link Mesh system and I lack the imagination to recognize where this Deco BE85 falls short. Every imaginable expectation I might have for a router, such as maximizing the speed of my Gig fiber from Point of Entry to anywhere I’m my house, providing the flexibility to exploit my several ethernet drops, and giving me control over my network are provided. If you need a feature, I’d bet it’s here. BB’s product listing provides the details. RESULTS: I’m offering tests of my current system. PLEASE, do not assume your speeds can be predicted by my tests. This mesh router system is being limited by my equipment and measuring devices. I can compare relative to my previous setup, but you shouldn’t. (See Router SPEEDTEST “BEST” table in accompanying pictures); Using my iPhone 12 and my MacBook Pro M1 I wandered around my home looking for the Wi-Fi connection speeds I could achieve. I set aside some time before the arrival of my new DECO BE85 to thoroughly test my previous mesh system. I recorded the best speed I could achieve at 5 locations representing distant areas of my house. I maintain my Service provider’s single location (my Office) WiFi network so I’ve set up my add-on mesh systems in Bridge (or Access Point) mode. I tested its performance also. And, finally, when my DECO arrived it had to compete with the other systems. Summary data is shown in my table. It’s not much of a competition. Everywhere other than my office location, the TP-DECO more than doubled the download speeds of both other WiFi systems. There were 2 upload speed anomalies which I can’t explain but were repeatable. They may be unique to my setup, or maybe settings I’ve created incorrectly, or possibly a correctable issue that a future update might resolve. I can’t get too stressed about it because every other performance measure was excellent, crushing my previous setups. And, to repeat, my measurements are limited by my equipment and measuring tools. I can measure only measure WiFi 6 performance using my newest Dell laptop. DEVICES that can exploit WiFi 6 are being released every day. They include Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, Note 10, Note 20, S10, S20, S21, S22, S22 Ultra, S23, Tab S8, Sony’s Xperia, Apple M1MacBook Air, M1MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, iPad Pro, Asus Chromebook Flip c436, Dell XPS 12, HP Spectre x360, Lenovo Yoga, LG Gram17, Microsoft Surface Laptop Go, Google Pixel 6, 6 pro, 6A, 7, 7 Pro, Motorola Edge 30, 30 Ultra, Pro, Fusion, 2021, 2022, Moto Razor 2022, Motorola X30 Pro and Apple’s iPhone 15 is expected to ship with Wi-Fi 6E plus more. DEVICES that can support WiFi 7 will probably not arrive in significant numbers for another couple of years. When they do, the speeds could reach 30Gps, the connection capacity will allow for many more simultaneous devices online, and they will provide greater stability. SUMMARY: This TP-Link Deco BE85 achieves the highest Wi-Fi speeds my house as ever seen, and it’s rock-steady reliable. It has a significant amount of flexibility, It is fun to manage. I’m obsessed with testing it under a variety of usage situations, and it has not failed any expectation I might have. With these emerging technologies there is a need for persistent updating and curing of issues as they arise. New devices and modifications to current wireless protocols will challenge even a cutting edge product like the Deco BE85. It’s readily apparent that TP-Link takes this obligation seriously, so I think I can expect continuous improvements. Looking forward to using this premiere router for a long time.

I set up the Deco mesh tri-band router 3 pack at the beginning of October 2023 and it has been running without any problems for about 1.5 months. Rock solid. I replaced a 7 year old Linksys Velop 3 pack and put the 3 Deco routers in the same locations - middle family room, upstairs living room, and the basement. The system completed its set up quickly - "Green" means go - so don't wait around for a "blue" light on the Deco like I did because the Deco lights don't turn blue. I am doing the set it and forget it method of managing my network. I like the mobile app - it connects to the mesh router quickly and shows me that all 3 units are running - even shows in the picture the one router unit with the wired backhaul and one unit set up wirelessly. Also, the app pings me when a new device has joined the network - and so far it is only devices I have added on purpose, The thing that pointed me in the direction of the Deco is that it is the first mesh system to come out with WiFi 7 (for the future) PLUS more than 1 multi-gig wan and lan port. Additionally, each unit is a router. Meaning that if in 5 years one of the router units - or the one currently hooked up to the cable modem burns out (like happened with my old Linksys at year 5.5) - you don't have to run out and buy a whole new system right away. I would be able to run with 2 Deco router units well enough for a long while. My home is a 3,000 sq ft, 4 level split. The yard is 10,000 sq ft. The internet service is "up to" 1.2 gbps / 35 mbps Xfinity (Comcast). I grabbed an Arris S33 multi-gig modem. Two 5 X 2.5 gbps unmanaged switches. All wires are cat 7. My computers and phone are modern enough for WiFi 6, but not 7 yet. That said, wifi speeds are obviously better with this brand new Deco mesh system - and now when I am in bed at night I can surf at 500 mbps on my iphone versus 125 mbps with my old system. Coverage is better because when I mow the lawn now I can get 360 mbps in the backyard when I couldn't get any reliable wifi in the yard with the old mesh, I rely on wired internet for my work pc, my personal gaming pc, and my wife's work pc. Now we get 960 mbps wired on my work pc and my gaming pc instead of 650 mbps from the old wired connection. I had no speed complaints previously, and I have no speed issues now. All an improvement, but nothing compares to the stability right out of the box. We are extensively on Zoom and Telehealth all day at our house and it can't be our fault if things are not working or if video or audio is choppy. It is fine if our employer’s network is down - just not us at home. It was stressful deciding to make a router change when the old system is plugging along and "only" locks up once or twice every month or two. The Deco has been flawless for us and I'm thankful for that and I recommend this product.

The Wi-Fi 7 Future With No Devices To Use It

INTRODUCTION The Deco BE85 ships with 3 identical devices. Whichever one you hookup first becomes your main unit and the others are satellite devices. TP-Link has endowed each unit with a tremendous amount of tech, not seen in many consumer-grade devices to date. Included, and most obvious is Wi-Fi 7. The latest generation of the Wi-Fi standard. Wi-Fi 7 supports the ability to transmit data at speeds better than 4x the current Wi-Fi 6 standard. Additionally, each unit is equipped with two 2.5Gbe ports, two 10Gbe ports, as well as a combo port that can be used with fiber, and the obligatory USB 3.0 port. Wow!!! Most important to me, is the Deco BE85 is the first consumer mesh Wi-Fi system I have really given any consideration to, simply because it is one of, if not the only unit, to support what TP-Link refers to as MLO (Multi-Link Operation). This means the nodes all can communicate with one another on all available connection methods. No longer is the consumer tied to a single 5GHz backhaul channel for communication between nodes. Get those nodes just a little too far apart and their communication speed plummets. Not with these BE85’s. These can use the 2.4Ghz, 5GHz, 6GHz, and Ethernet for backhaul. Not only can they pick and choose which one to use, the BE85 can use all the bands, including ethernet, simultaneously for communication. OUTSTANDING!!!!! INITIAL SET-UP The TP-Link Deco BE85 does its best to make setting up a new Wi-Fi network a piece of cake. But, make no bones about it, if you are doing it yourself, it helps to have a decent understanding of networking and most importantly, make sure you know how to access your existing equipment before starting the installation. I consider myself decently adept at networking and thankfully I have some experience as there were several hiccups getting everything up and running properly with my existing AT&T Fiber Internet. My most important recommendations prior to beginning installation of the TP-Link system are as follows: 1. Make sure you go into your existing modem (often provided by your ISP) and disable the Wi-Fi radios for all bands, including any guest networks. This will prevent it from competing with the new Deco kit after hookup. 2. It isn’t necessary, but I recommend changing the DHCP settings on the ISP modem to only allow for 1 DHCP address assignment. This will be for the main Deco unit. Let the main Deco unit handle the DHCP server responsibilities after that. 3. For the utmost ease in converting to a new system, make your Deco’s SSID and Wi-Fi password the same as your existing system (assuming you are satisfied with your current password security). This way, once the Deco comes online all client devices will find the network and automatically connect, eliminating the need to manually configure every single device. On my network this is close to 70 different devices. CONFIGURATION 99% of all Deco configuration is handled through the nicely designed Deco app available for both Android and iOS. I found the Android app my preferred method of accessing and configuring my system, as the iOS app seems to lag slightly behind, with the Android version providing much faster refreshing and near real-time statistics. TP-Link has really done a good job at making the system set-up possible for even the tech challenged. While it is entirely possible to have little or no experience in networking and still set-up the system, if a problem does arise (I had numerous issues) a good networking background is needed to avoid unwanted calls to family members and/or TP-Link Tech Support. The Deco app will attempt to guide you through the installation and configuration, but there are some things that you will just want the experience for. Not a knock against TP-Link, that is just the way it is when configuring a new whole home Wi-Fi system. Honestly, TP-Link deserves applause for trying their best to make the set-up as intuitive and pain-free as possible. Their hard work really shows. TESTING I have an older home that is approximately 4600 square feet. It has been reliably served by a TP-Link Archer AX11000 router since 2020, just as Covid was ramping up and things began to become scarce. The single Archer AX11000 covered every part of my home and most of my yard without issue. Granted, speeds weren’t the best at the fringes, but the main part of the living areas were covered great. Even the far ends of the house could reliably achieve 30 – 50Mbps downloads even during the worst of times. Because I have a single-story house, I placed the main Deco nearly dead center in the house and a satellite node toward each end. After buying the house, I made sure to run Cat5e throughout, so I was able to utilize the tried-and-true copper connection for backhaul. The Deco’s recognized the copper connection instantly, but because of their proximity and transmit/receive efficiency, each Deco also states it is connected to each other by the 2.4, 5, and 6GHz bands too. Those exact same clients that were getting only 30 – 50Mbps down, are now averaging more than 300Mbps down. Places in my house that would cause my phone, in particular, to change from the 5GHz band to the 2.4GHz band causing a brief interruption in performance are now fully blanketed in Wi-Fi and the phone maintains not just a Wi-Fi 5 connection throughout the entire house, it is able to maintain a full Wi-Fi 6 connection throughout the home. EXCELLENT! NEGATIVES I wish each unit, or at least one of the units, had 8 ethernet ports instead of just 4. There are still some bugs that need squashed in the TP-Link app and firmware. While the firmware is drastically better than it was initially, there are still random hiccups, slow connections, and inexplicable data freeze ups where nothing seems to be getting sent or received (even though my modem shows a connection to my ISP). I would like to be able to manage my device configuration from the actual Deco’s webpage versus using the app. I find it cumbersome to manage the intricate details of the device from my phone. I like to be able to use a full-size monitor to see more information at once. Give the users and Advanced tab where they can make configurations to the Deco’s via a computer like I can on my AX11000. Not sure if I received an old unit, or refurbished unit, but mine was shipped by the RMA department and is version 2.0. TP-Link has already released a hardware revision to V2.6. There is no way of telling what changes have occurred, but something has changed to warrant a hardware revision. The HomeShield protection suite is not included in the purchase price of the unit and available only through a monthly subscription after the 30 day trial period. SUMMARY This is the current cutting edge for Wi-Fi. The addition of the MLO option to the Deco’s make it a true game changer in the world of consumer mesh devices. It eliminates the trial and error needed to make sure each node is in just the perfect position, or it doesn’t work right. My Wi-Fi coverage has never been broader or as seamless. Weak and dead spots have been all but eliminated and every device has a much more reliable, stable connection. While it is true there are no Wi-Fi 7 client devices readily available, there will be. In the interim, the Deco BE85 will ensure you can wring every last bit of performance out of your existing devices and ready your home for the future. The only thing holding this back from getting a 5-star review is the random bugs that I still experience from time to time (surely to be squashed by a firmware update in the future) and the inability to perform what amounts to be Network Administration duties from a computer browser. This is HUGE to me, as I feel it would have immensely helpful in helping pinpoint the initial installation issues I experienced trying to get the Deco's to work properly with my AT&T Fiber. RECOMMENDED

Omg. This is exactly what I was waiting for. I was frusturated with the latest firmware updates with my former eero pro and disconnects and the expensive recurring fees for things that should have come with it. I bought and returned the ASUS et12 ( never saw a speed improvement), a eero 7 max ( again not be able to see what is happening), ASUS x9 very good but frustrating with using the app and webpage to get working. I also was limited on speed. This BE85 blows them all the way. Great app, changes to setting does not mean long waits, speed of all my devices is insane. Has a nice guest AND a IOT network to keep thing organized. The mesh is insane. And even with one node I was getting better coverage and speed than the six eero pros with backhauls. Range is crazy good. Features are great, useful and easy to implements. The app surprise me how well designed it is. In this case you get what you pay for. A future proof, ridiculously fast, stable, easy to manage system that balance ease of use and technical insight perfectly.

As a current owner of a 2nd-generation Eero mesh system, I have been very happy with the brand. It has consistently delivered reliable wireless internet across my home with no issues whatsoever. However, the WiFi 5 technology is now 6 years old and I had set my sights on upgrading and future-proofing my wireless mesh network. For months, I waited for the TP-LINK BE85 or BE95 to go on sale. Despite the mixed reviews these mesh units have received online, I thought it would be worth the gamble to see if it improved my home network. On Amazon Prime Day, the price of the BE85 3-pack dropped to $799, which was the perfect opportunity for me to finally grab these. Within 10 hours, I set up and then returned the TP-LINK BE85 mesh system THE GOOD Installation was a breeze and took under 15 minutes for all three units. The app does a great job of guiding you through the setup. As soon as you have the main unit connected, the other two are already programmed to connect. Essentially, they become plug-and-play. Each Deco unit is rock solid in construction. It has 2x10Gbps and 2x2.5Gbps ports. This is great to have should I ever consider upgrading to a 2GB Internet service, which is not likely, but still futureproofing. The Decos also has a USB port to connect and network an external drive, which I found to be one of the most compelling features. After installation and network connection, I put the mesh unit in AP mode as two of the units had backhaul ethernet connections. I have a 1GB Internet feed I was elated to see significant wireless speed increases across my entire home with no dead spots. My speed increased to an average of 200mbps per location I tested. When I was within 6 feet of one of the wired Decos I would get a 600mbps connection (compared to 312mbps with the Eero). Further away from the nodes, I would see wireless speeds of 250mbps (compared to 54mbps with the Eero). I should note here that, according to the Deco app, I believe everything was connected to the 2.4Ghz/5 Ghz network so I don't even know if my devices were taking advantage of WiFi 6 or WiFi 7. Since I used the same SSID and password of my Eero mesh, almost everything immediately connected to the new network. THE BAD My five Nest cameras disconnected. Surprisingly, my Ring cameras remained connected. I am pretty confident I could have manually removed and then added each of the Nest cameras to the new mesh network, but that is a huge hassle given the fact it can't be done through the Nest app. I have to get up on a ladder and rescan the QR code on each camera which is a major, major hassle. I would have done it, however, if not for the next issue... My devices were constantly disconnecting and then reconnecting to the network for 10 hours post-installation. This included my iPhone, my laptops, and my Amazon devices. I did extensive Google research and played around with some recommended changes in the Deco app. This included turning off roaming and manually telling each connected client to disconnect from the mesh network, none of which helped. Mind you, these were all TP-LINK support recommendations. I did come across something that made me decide I needed to return this Deco mesh system... Countless -- and I mean countless complaints on Reddit and other message boards about network instability with many of the TP-LINK Deco mesh systems. Don't believe me? Google, "TP-LINK DECO DISCONNECTS" and you will be horrified with the results that you find. These things are essentially trash. For so many people to have the same mesh network instability that I am currently experiencing, tells me that this is a highly unreliable brand. And, sure, there are many positive reviews on Amazon (as well as bad ones), and generally only people who have issues with their products end up posting a bad review --- but it's still very obvious to me that this is not a reliable product. Many posts I read indicated that customers who returned their TP-LINK looked to move to Eero. CONCLUSION I am back on my old Eero system. Everything is working fine, albeit I'm back to slower wireless speeds, which for the moment, is okay. I would consider upgrading to the Eero Pro 6+ mesh units (at around $300 for a 3-pack on sale), but I am not certain they will give me significant gains as the more powerful Deco units did. Then there's the Eero Pro 7 Max. It will probably come down to $1k for a 3-pack soon, but it's not getting very good reviews. I may just have to suck it up and remain with my 2nd generation Eero mesh system until better hardware gets released.

      Hi NJRonbo,

Thank you for your review. We're happy to hear you enjoyed the ease of setup, rock solid construction, and speed provided by our Deco BE85 Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System.

If you haven't already done so, please ensure your Deco app and firmware are both fully up to date. We also recommend enabling and using the IoT Network feature for your IoT devices and/or cameras. Additionally, if you are using the 6 GHz band, and have it configured with the same SSID as the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands, please try assigning it a unique SSID to see if the symptoms persist.

We would appreciate the opportunity to follow up to discuss and better understand your network environment and help address your concerns. At your earliest convenience, please email [email protected], reference this review, and we will have someone follow up with you.

      Best Regards,

Ive had this mesh system for 5 days and it is awesome. I used before EERO 6E and this is wayyyy faster and absolutely stable. The app is good, installation was too easy, quick firmware update and good to go. I love being able to select which satellite to use with each devise and the band.i cant wait to see how it continues to evolve with firmware updates and devices that have wifi 7. 10/10!

We recently moved into a larger house with an in-law’ quarters and were in the market to upgrade our current, out of date, mesh Wi-Fi system that we have had for the past few years when we came across the new TP Link Deco tri-band mesh whole home Wi-Fi 7 system. Not only did the Deco system check all the boxes, it exceeded our expectations. Over the past few years we have been through several mesh Wi-Fi systems and, being a fan of anything techy, am always keeping my eye out for the next best thing and the Deco mesh system was right up my alley. Full disclosure, we have dozens of smart home products scattered throughout our home and there is nothing more frustrating when I can’t get the best internet quality wherever I may be in our house which is two stories and approximately 3900 square feet. We are also fortunate enough to have fiber optic gig speed internet ran into our house and CAT 6 wiring capable of providing 10 gig speeds although we only opted for 1 gig speed for the time being. I have several smart televisions, game systems, laptops, smart switches/plugs, tablets, voice-controlled screens/speakers, phones, etc. at any given moment tapped into the same Wi-Fi network. Therefore, our network periodically would be strained at times using our previous Wi-Fi 6 mesh routers so I was excited to see what this system could offer. Out of the box, the mesh system was relatively simple to set up with three interchangeable nodes and power adapters to scatter around our house in planned out areas to get the best Wi-Fi. After plugging in the node and connecting the ethernet to our CAT 6 port, I was ready to start the set up via the Deco smart phone app. The app recognized and connected to the first node with ease and took me through the step-by-step process to locate a feasible area in our house for the other two nodes. Within less than ten minutes, everything was set up and connected. I changed the name of our Wi-Fi and password to mirror our previous system that way I didn’t have to change all the settings in every device in our home to a new network. Everything was very simple and seamless as you would expect from a mesh network system with all the bells and whistles. Through the app I am able to monitor all the devices in our house, perform network speed tests, receive notifications when new devices are connected to our network amongst other things I typically don’t mess with. One thing I have noticed from our previous system is that the Deco is much more stable and transitions between nodes more seamlessly. I’m sure this is due to the new technology built into the Deco system which can provide 10 Gbps with a hard-line connection, 12 streams with the tri-band Wi-Fi, stay connected up to 9600 square feet and connect up to 200 devices. The mesh system can provide 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi which is great to have options depending on the capability and need on certain devices. The nodes themselves have eight high gain antennas to provide coverage in all directions, a quad-core processor and two internal cooling fans to handle all the power under its hood. With the HomeShield enhanced security you can manage online time and block inappropriate content with parental controls and block potential threats to your network. Overall, the top notch, newest technology, TP Link Deco tri-band mesh network system is by far the best mesh network system we have had in our household and I would recommend it to anyone in the market for a mesh network.

Going on a month of heavy testing with great results so far. Very stable mesh network with Ethernet back haul to both satellites. Dozens of smart devices including a dozen or so cameras have all been very reliable so far. Long gaming sessions with zero dropped network and wife works from home with great results so far. Overall very pleased. Somewhat limited advanced network settings but that seems to be the norm across the board now for all manufacturers unless you go ubiquiti. Glad we saved a ton going with this setup instead of netgear. Range and speed are both phenomenal and easily the best if any setup we’ve ever owned. Coming from ASUS mesh with single satellite to two with this setup was a game changer for our 2600 sqft 2 story house built out of cinder blocks.

These WiFi 7 mesh routers work great for my townhome. Currently getting full 1Gb+ from my main router to the mesh in my office. Definitely better stability than with the TP-Link router and range extender combo that I had before. Only issue I’m occasionally seeing is that the Deco software is auto switching the 5G network from 160MHz width to 80MHz saying there is radar interference. I keep deactivating the auto switch setting but it comes back on every few days. Hopefully there is a software update soon to address this.
