Love this switch. I really wanted to like Lutron more than these but Kasa switches just do more and I returned the 4 sets of Lutron ones. Motion sensor works perfect for my bathroom setup. The smart control is amazing once you fine tune it how you want your lights to dim throughout the day. Also these KEEP THE SAME BRIGHTNESS SETTING AFTER THEY TURN OFF unlike the Lutron switches! I don’t understand how such an expensive switch can’t even do that basic function. Also the ring light makes it easy to see in the dark too something that found annoying about Lutron all the buttons feel the same so in the dark it’s hard to find. For the price of one Caseta dimmer I bought 2 of these motion switch dimmers ($29 sale). But anyways I have these connected to Alexa and homebridge so they work with HomeKit too for me. I have fios gigabit WiFi and have never had any connection issues with these being slow or falling offline. Install was easy but it is tight fit and requires a neutral. So if you’re like me and don’t want to decide between feeding your kids or buying into Lutrons expensive set up save your money & buy Kasa instead.

Very underwhelming (this from a Kasa enthusiast)

Every light switch in my house has been replaced with a Kasa smart switch, so I’ve been awaiting these motion activated dimmers for quite a while now. Their website has shown these as “Coming Soon!” For well over a year (possibly 2), so I expected they were fine tuning these prior to making them available for sale. Unfortunately that is not the case. Their main new function, the motion sensing ability, leaves much to be desired. I have found that the field of motion detection is only approximately 90 degrees from side to side. In fact, it’s so underwhelming that I have often been able to actually manually turn on the switch before the motion detection turns it on by itself. Other times the motion detection will engage slightly sooner, immediately before I press the switch myself, causing the lights to turn on and then immediately turn off. I previously had a motion sensing switch by Lutron and, while that wasn’t a smart switch, it had a nearly 180 degree field of detection, and I was never able to make it to within 5 feet of the switch before it detected the motion and turned on itself. Those switches have been available for years, so why the newly released KS220M switches have such poor motion detection fields, I have no clue. It isn’t all bad, though. It does offer the ability to create rules so that the motion detection feature only engages during certain parts of the day (whichever times you decide), as well as the ability to set it so that the motion detection will kick in only if the ambient light is at a minimum level, set by the user. One way that I have found to get around the delayed motion sensing feature is by adding a smart action via the Kasa app. For example, if I want my office lights to turn on via motion detection in the morning, I will connect the office light to the hallway light adjacent to the office, so that when the hallway light turns on, the office light automatically turns on as well. It’s aggravating that this is even necessary and is only so because of a subpar motion sensor installed in a product that has been in development for several years, but it’s better than nothing, and certainly better and cheaper than replacing the switches throughout my entire house with a different brand that has better motion sensing abilities. All in all, I would recommend these switches *when* the price drops to a more reasonable $25-$30. Currently at $40 per switch, these are absolutely not worth such a price tag. But if you’re like me and have a house full of Kasa products, then you won’t be deterred by the high price tag. Hopefully the motion detection issues can be corrected via a future firmware update, but I won’t be holding my breath.

      Hi,

Thank you for sharing your experience with our Kasa Smart Motion Activated Dimmer Switch. In our testing, the KS220M is designed to have a motion sensing range of over 120 degrees, and should not encounter a significant delay between motion sensing and activating the light. Nevertheless, we hear your concerns and we would like to follow up with you to provide further assistance. At your convenience, please email [email protected] and include a copy of, or link to your review, and we will gladly follow up with you.

I waited a long time for Kasa to release this item. So long, i forgot about it. Then one day, I saw it on Best Buy's site. Decided to give it a try. I installed this in my bathroom. Installation was very simple. I love all of the features it offers. I have mine set to brighter light during the day and dimmer lights in the evenings. Works perfect. Motion sensor picks up quickly, as it should. After reading some of the negative reviews, I almost didn't give this a try. Try it for yourself. You won't be disappointed. I have converted almost every switch in my home to Kasa. We are all loving our smart home! And this is a great addition.

I ordered two of these online, one was DOA. Still I couldn't be happier with the service and products I received. They shipped fast, we're super discounted, and when I returned the inop one to the store they were cordial, timely and even offered to order a new one shipped to my house. The product is great and works well with Google home. The motion sensor function is 'lights out'.

I love this thing! I bought one to test out cause I always forget to turn off the lights in the kitchen. So I changed the switch that’s above the sink and it’s made things much simpler. Watch videos on the different settings online to have a full grasp of things. I have it set to motion after sunset and to turn off at sunrise.

Perfect smart dimmer with motion sensor

I installed the Smart Dimmer with motion sensor in my bathrooms, walk in closet and kitchen pantry. It was easy to install and I am very happy with the function. It addressed two needs - one, when I walk into the bathroom, closet or pantry, I wanted the light to automatically come on depending on ambient light (Ex., if there is enough daylight, I do not need the light to come on). Two, and most important, help me save on electricity. Most times, in my household, forgetting to switch off the lights is a common occurrence, and with this smart dimmer, I can keep the lights on for a specific duration, after which the light switches off automatically. Fo ex., lights are set to go off in the kitchen pantry after 5 mins, bathroom, 20 mins, closet 5 mins. and so on. You can tinker around and calibrate as per your needs with flexible settings through the app. Also, the ambient sensor allows me to set the dimmer levels to what is needed. Love it!

I've read several reviews about nonresponsiveness, and I just installed one and thorough went through the configurations. While the response is not instataneous even on the most sensitive setting, it does react within 1 to 2 seconds - which is reasonable in my use case. If you want it to react as fast as possible, I would check the following: Set Fade On to instant, Manual Off Buffer to 5 sec, Montion Sensor as Enabled and adjust Sensitivity appropriately (I used Custom.), and Enable/Disable Ambient Light Sensor and set Ambience accordingly (100 is most sensitive). I think the biggest gotcha is the Motion Sensor and Ambience.

I have other products from Kasa. They all work fine. Make sure that you connect the "hot" line to the correct input or it won't work. The motion sensing is about 180 degrees; so, make sure it isn't too near a cross hallway that will trigger when you don't want it to.

I installed this light switch in my Kitchen to replace the Wi-Fi light bulb I had been using. The installation instructions were straightforward and easy to understand, for non laymen like me. The switch works flawlessly, voice or manual switching had no problems. The Dimming and Motion functions are also very good and no issues to use everyday. I use this with my Alexa APP and much better then the Wi-Fi light bulb for people who just want to use a physical switch.

This motion activated smart switch works great. Motion detection is very quick and adjustable for distance. It integrates perfectly with the other Kasa products, such that one motion activated switch can control more devices not directly attached electrically to the switch, using routines and smart actions. The only thing I was hoping is to find a model with motion activation but no dimmer in the Kasa line-up, because this one can only be used with lights and appliances compatible with a dimmer switch.

After seeing the reviewers i was nervous, but it's exactly what i needed for my kitchen and smart home. I had issues installing (computer geek not home install guy), so after looking up YouTube for installation, i figured outhat you have to attach the nutral even though the previous installed didn't have. Therfore all 4 things have to be hooked (Line, Lead, Ground & Nutral) and lit up. After installing app and getting smart control the MOTION SENSOR would not work not will it auto turn off. After finding an online manual, and though not stated in the manual, i figured out you have pre program the Motion sensor in the SMART menu > Set TIME from 12am to 12am, activate when Dark AND Motion, OFF After 30 seconds. Works Like a charm. Unfortunately it works so well have (want to) buy 8 others for the rest of the condo. I wish they made a version that was Motion without Smart features to save on price.

I put this in my garage so that if I walk in carrying something I don’t worry about turning on the light and set it to turn off after 5 min with motion sensor activated in case we leave through garage. Easy to install just watch online videos and it come with caps for wires. I didn’t notice and started using black tape.

This was very easy to install and configure. We purchased this when it was on sale and able to get smart wifi dimmer motion activated switch cheaper than it was to buy a regular motion activated dimmer switch. We use this to enable some additional automation in our home. Great purchase

Love it. Works great. Will be buying more to install around the house. I started with Lutron per my electrician recommendation, but it required a bridge ($70) & they didn’t exactly what I needed - sensor to turn on whenever someone is around & smart so that it only turns on within a defined time frame. With Lutron the light would turn on anytime it sensed someone, even in broad daylight which was annoying. Kasa fixed the issue and honestly the switch looks sleeker.
