Great Floodlight Camera for Home Assistant!

I have been anticipating the release of these floodlight cameras for quite a while. I had 2 Feit Floodlight Cameras that just did not function in the ways that I wanted them to. I replaced those Feit cameras with these and I am very pleased.
I bought these during the 2024 Prime Day time frame (obviously bought them on Best Buy) and they were about $100 each, which I thought was a great deal for them.
First off: These cameras have great picture quality for both daytime and nighttime viewing. The 2K quality is great and the field of view is massive. LED's are super bright and light up the areas I have these at very well.
Second: This was the biggest thing for me - These cameras allow you to get their camera streams so that you can place them into your NVR and handle events that way. My specific use case was I just wanted to be able to pull their camera streams into my Home Assistant instance just so I could view them. I don't care so much about handling motion events or anything through Frigate or MotionEye or anything like that, I just wanted to be able to view them in Home Assistant. There is a small bit of advance setup for this use case, but chances are if you're aware of NVR's and setting them up, you would be able to set it up just fine.
Third: And related to the second point - These have local storage via SD card or you can opt to use their Tapo Care service which allows for cloud storage and rich notifications to your phone (getting a picture preview on motion detection for example) for some price. I'm staying with just local storage.
Fourth: Setup is easy if you're familiar with basic wiring. If you replace an existing floodlight with this it's simple. Turn off breaker to floodlight, take off old floodlight, attach new mounts, attach wires by following their instructions, plug in main camera body, turn on breaker, open the Tapo app, add device by following the app instructions, and you're off! The whole process took me probably around 1 hour to complete per camera, but I work slow and thoroughly read instructions and options. You can probably be done in 30 min if you work quicker than I do.
The Tapo app is pretty good. It gives you lots of options to customize zones, light timers, which motion events you want (motion, vehicle, person, etc) and many other things you would expect from a floodlight camera.
If you see these on sale for around $100 or so, I would definitely pick them up.
I've attached a photo of what the camera looks like from over my garage.

At the start was happy about this camera, but now I’m feeling frustrated, it appeared to be not so reliable camera. Need to reboot and reinstall twice already. It will show off line when the weather is bad . When it rained hard last time it has this problem, and now it is cold and it is off line again and I need to reboot. What happens if you are not home to do the reboot - this camera would be worthless. It’s only $185 . I got Wyze installed at the back of the house it’s cheaper. They were installed 1 week apart and the Wyze has no problem since installed.

Hi Jept,
Thank you for your review. In your case, we first recommend ensuring your router's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong at the device's location. You can check the signal strength for the device within the Tapo app by navigating to the camera in the Tapo app, selecting Device Settings (top-right), and checking the signal strength next to Network Connection.

Loving my flood light camera so far it's been about a month. Easy to set up. I thought it would take hours I'm not an electrician but the directions were very easy to follow. No need to twist wires with existing wiring thankfully. Time will tell how long this lasts

TLDR: Great quality camera with huge FOV, adjustable direction/brightness LED floodlights, I’m buying more!
My front driveway floodlight was getting pretty broken up. I had already make a couple of “good enough” repairs, then the motion detector stopped motioning. I already have a couple of Tapo cameras already and they’ve all been really reliable, so this floodlight/camera combo caught my eye.
The white color “matches” the soffit where the light is mounted, which is great, but now it makes my white paint look less white :D I’m sure it will get it’s fair share of dust and spider webs soon.
One thing to remember, this is not a standard battery-operated security camera, you should think of it as a light fixture that has a camera on it as well. You will need to make connections for the camera to the electrical lines that are in an existing fixture, or you will need to add a box and an electrical feed for the position you want to mount the fixture. A note on the connection to the camera from the power lines, there are two (white and black) “pigtails” included in the package, you should splice these on to your 120VAC line, then use these pigtails to connect to the mounting plate. The terminals on the mounting plate have a silicone rubber gasket that goes all the way around the 120V connection and the wires must go through two small holes on that gasket. The wires must be inserted ALL THE WAY in to the terminals and the jacket of the wire should be past the silicone boot, this gives you better weather/pest protection on the inside of the unit. When you are tightening the screws on the terminals, make sure to use a properly sized flathead screwdriver to fit in the terminal hole, if you use one that is too small, you’ll either break the screwdriver tip if it’s too small, and if it’s too big, you can get fooled into thinking the terminal is tight when it is not. This connection is the most important on the unit for reliability and safety, so take your time and make sure to pull on the wires with a good tug after you’ve snugged the screws, if they move, loose the terminal(s) completely, make sure the wires are inserted all the way in there again, then tighten down snug. I used a Snap-On SSDE44B, with a .125” wide and .018” thick blade, and it fits perfectly and I was able to apply plenty of torque on the fitting. There are markings embossed on the base plate of “L” (Line/Hot) and “N” (Neutral), but are a little hard to see, so make sure you check to make sure the white wire is on the “N” side and your black goes on the “L” side.
The packaging is great, in normal TP-Link fashion. Nothing damaged or missing, almost everything in and of the box is recyclable. There are paper alternatives to the bubble wraps inside the box on the device, it would be nice to peel off the non-recyclable cellophane, grab all the goodies and drop everything in the recycling. We do notice these things!
A little bit of insight from a 20 year surveillance camera tech that worked with wireless cameras since they were commercially viable… This camera is obviously primarily for outdoor use. Wi-Fi signal strength should not be measured by the router or other inside equipment. You should get a Wi-Fi scanner app for your Android phone or laptop, go to the spot where the camera is and check for overlapping Wi-Fi channels and signal strength from your own router FROM THE POSITION OF THE CAMERA. I am lucky and got to skip the wifi signal hunting, since I already added a node to reach the garage door opener. You really must sort your Wi-Fi, figure out what you are going to do with your network and build/upgrade it accordingly. If you think you have enough Wi-Fi, you don’t. When you mount this camera, odds are good it will be in a similar situation as mine is, on the farthest corner of the house on the other side of the garage. If you need professional or nerd support, just do it, overkill on Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) or a better mesh system, the bigger the number after “ax” in the router model’s name will offer a smoother experience for everyone on the network, you need lots of overhead. If you want to know why, check out some of the wifi router reviews from the real nerds like Tom’s Hardware, and check out how incredibly fast wifi signal strength, link quality, speed and connection stability fall off a cliff as you move from the antennas (inverse square law, can’t outrun physics). I run three 802.11ax nodes in a 1968 split level, and I am going to need to add another for the back cameras to get stronger signal. Some folks will get lucky and want to put the camera outside where it’s right next to the ISP gateway and never have a problem. Once you are outside your house, you must know the camera out there is fighting with a lot of interference from all the neighbors. I would venture to say that like almost every outdoor fixture there will be a lot of returns because folks think the hype about Wi-Fi is true, so “it can’t be the Wi-Fi, it’s gotta be this new thing I just added…” is almost always – wrong. If you have ANY issue with this camera, it’s your Wi-Fi first, then maybe the camera, but it’s still probably your Wi-Fi - after you’re done walking over to the camera (with the garage door open) and looking at your phone and seeing all those bars… it has to be the camera, because bars! - It’s still your Wi-Fi, I’m not joking. This camera is rock solid.
– A little PS on this, I could not find a significant change in the Wi-Fi’s S/N (2.4GHz channel 9) when the lights were on or off, I was concerned because some LEDs are quite noisy (CREE) in the 2.4GHz bandspace, so whatever these lights are, they do not cause undue interference to my 802.11 connection and did not change my ability to view or access the camera! Very thoughtful design.
I set the camera up first on ASUS, then TP-Link 802.11x Wi-Fi 6 mesh systems with wired backhaul and had great luck with the camera on both networks. It did not have any issue jumping on the closest node in the TP-Link “EasyLink” system, nor did it have any issues with the ASUS AiMesh system, I think if you’ve got one of these with at least three nodes and strong signal at the camera, you should have good connectivity.
I am able to stream on the wireless network at “2K” with no problem, it has the ability to stream at 720p which is important for installation location flexibility- if the camera has iffy streaming from bad Wi-Fi, drop the quality to 720p, and it may clear up.
So, this camera/light is on the corner of my garage, looking toward the side of the house and down most of the front driveway. The picture quality is really good. I can read my wife’s car license plate in the dark with the camera on the monochrome night mode. That’s impressive. I have to admit, we primarily use the cameras for catching all the animals that are scooting around the yard in the dark.
There is built-in “AI” for identifying People, Cars, Animals and a couple of other pretty slick detection tools. These allow you to get notifications from your cameras that will tell you what type of activity the camera picked up, then you can live view the stream or watch the clip recorded from the trigger. The notifications are quick, not a quick as Apple Home notifications, but quick. I would not want to use a doorbell that had this kind of delay on it, but for yard cameras, this works great.
If you are using the MicroSD slot on the side of the camera, you can have local recordings available at the camera, which you can download right off the card with your Tapo app. -Buy the best SD card you can find, I'm using the Samsung Pro Endurance 256 in each of my Tapo cameras, recording a lot, and have had great luck with them. Don't go cheap on your memory card, it will fail from the camera's constant writing.- If your network signal is weak, add the SD card, the camera will still make its own recordings on the card, then you can adjust your router to get better signal on the camera, download your recordings, then go about your day.
One of the most important features, in my opinion, is the direct access TP-Link allows to the camera’s RTSP network video feeds. This allows you to use the camera with a third-party NVR, or even to set up this camera for use with a HomeBridge server to add it to your Apple Home system (soon!). This access is for slightly more advanced users but is still easy to set up and operates flawlessly, just like the rest of the camera’s functions. Another note, RTSP streams on your network are not encrypted and very easy to intercept and watch, so make sure you trust whatever people or devices will be sharing this network or use a VLAN/Guest Network for your RTSP devices.
I’m sticking with Tapo cameras for now, I think the value proposition for the whole line of Tapo products is the best in the market, I think you should check them out.
I would buy this camera again without a second thought!

The Tapo division of TP Link has been making sleek, affordable, well build, practical devices that are easy to install and have great smart features and this continues with the Tapo wired Floodlight (TC55).
Installation of floodlight is pretty straight forward and the app walks you through everything step by step. There are some wire extensions provided incase you existing wiring is a bit small. Over all I was able to adjust install the floodlight within 30-40 mins.
My main purpose for the floodlight was to help light my drive path when I show up at night and give me alerts when motion is detected when im not home, and the floodlight does this wonderfully. The lights from the flood light cover about 3 times the distance as my prior floodlight, I can see everything and the motion activation from its sensors works great, i no longer have to put down what im holding and wave my hands to get the light to turn back on.
The Tapo Floodlight TC55 uses multiple sensors to detect motion, it has 3 PIR sensors and 1 light sensor and the camera also works as a motion detector, combining all of these sensors helps reduces false alerts and allow for a 270 degree detection radius. For the most part the sensors work well and the AI detection is pretty good, I did have to turn down the sensitivity for motion alerts as the camera sensor was picking up little bug movements at night.
The videos from the floodlight are crisp and very detailed, the colors come through perfectly. The quality of the image is great for a floodlight, the camera detection picks up small animals that are running across my driveway. The zoom doesn’t work the best, you can’t pick up super fine details when zooming so please keep that in mind.
One of the best things about the floodlight was the customization available to help perfect my experience. I was able to adjust the sensitivity of the sensors and even turn off individual sensors, this helped reduce false alerts I was getting from motion detection. Along with the sensor adjustment options I was able to adjust which angle the floodlights are facing and even adjust the brightness of the lights. TP link also allows customization of the alarm sound. TP-link goes above and beyond with the options for customization (timers/alerts/AI option/integration) if there is something you want it is included and you’re able to adjust it as needed. One of the best things that TPlink did was allow you to have a RTSP so you can add your camera to a local NVR/NAS, this is huge as you have the option to use the device as you see fit. TP link also does offer you a paid cloud option which gives you a few extra perks such as video summary, which is basically a timelapse that is fun to look it.
I have had no connection issues or delays when it comes to alerts, there has been no missed human detections and in all honesty I feel the camera based detections work too good as it will even catch the shadow of a bird flying by. The device has stayed connected to the Wifi and never once dropped signal. The only real issue I had with the floodlight was that the cloud storage recording reviews seem to work much quicker than the local ones on the SD card, I would say they SD recording review takes about 4-6 seconds to start where as the cloud recordings are instant.
TP-Link has created a great product that includes all features you want and allows you to customize to your hearts content. The Tapo line up for TP-Link is an amazing buy and actually lets you own/use the product without putting everything behind a paywall. I can’t say enough good things about this floodlight and would recommend it to everyone.

Upon unboxing, the premium quality of the camera is evident. It is lightweight and constructed from well-made plastic. The installation is straightforward, thanks to the built-in wire connector that simplifies the setup. Once powered on, the LED begins blinking, indicating that the camera is in pairing mode. Connecting the camera to Wi-Fi using the Tapo app on my iPhone was quick and easy, especially since my Wi-Fi information was already stored in the app from other Tapo products.
The camera offers a 2K QHD resolution and a 150° field of view, delivering clear and detailed footage that covers my entire driveway. The 2800-lumen floodlights provide bright illumination, significantly enhancing nighttime visibility. The Smart AI Detection feature is particularly useful, distinguishing between people, pets, and vehicles, and allowing for custom activity zones to reduce unnecessary notifications. The Tapo app is user-friendly and responsive, making it easy to adjust the camera settings.
Although the built-in microphone and speaker support two-way communication, the microphone's clarity could be improved, but it remains functional. TP-Link offers both local storage via a microSD card and cloud storage through a subscription. The camera is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa but lacks Apple HomeKit support, which I hope will be added in future updates to integrate with my Apple Home setup.
The camera maintains a reliable connection, providing quick access to the live feed with no buffering, which is crucial for promptly monitoring any suspicious activities. My experience with this camera has been completely satisfying, with no issues at all.

2K QHD Camera with Dual Dimmable AC Floodlights

BACKGROUND: I currently own three different outdoor/indoor security camera systems. A Google Nest Wired Doorbell, a pair of SimpliSafe outdoor video cameras, and a TP-Link Tapco TC73 Pan-&-Tilt 2K indoor camera used in an outdoor enclosed porch. Of these three systems, only the TP-Link / Tapco devices have the ability to store video on an internal Micro-SD card without monthly subscription fees. And this new Tapco TC55 is a replacement upgrade for the SimpliSafe camera that was mounted on my garage.
PRE-INSTALLATION: Since I have an existing TP-Link / Tapco TC73 camera, I was thoroughly familiar with the require application, setup procedures, wirelessly linking to our WiFi, and the numerous camera monitoring features/options available. So before mounting outside, I hardwired an AC cord (hot & neutral) to the unit, plugged into an AC receptacle inside near our WiFi access point, and setup indoors. This step is not really necessary, but I wanted to demo the TC55 lighting features indoors prior to installing outdoors.
INSTALLATION: Since this is an AC hardwired device, I did have to run an AC line to a junction box to complete this installation. This was not an issue for me due to having access to both the open inside garage studs and wall, along with having an existing AC line easily accessible. Others may require hiring an electrical contractor for their unique installation requirements. But I would assume most installations should be replacing an existing outdoor light fixture with the TC55 that would be so much easier.
Since I already had WiFi connectivity with my “pre-install” step, once permanently mounted on our garage, all I had to do was adjust the both the camera and lights positioning.
CAMERA: The TC55 2K QHD camera provides a much wider viewing angle and significantly higher video definition, versus my SimpliSafe cameras. I am so impressed, I will be replacing both of my other SimpliSafe cameras with Tapco’s devices.
LIGHTING: Having dual oblong-shaped LED “2800-Lumen Ultra-Bright Floodlights” powered by AC, versus an internal battery, provides more lighting than I need. I actually lowered the intensity to 70%, and still maintain a very large area of viewable coverage. The one negative I’ll mention is, these oblong-shape lights sort-of look a tad goofy to me, like rabbit ears (V shaped). Therefore, I wish they would have additional flexible range to adjust the “Vee” to dual “Dashes”. But hey, that’s me…
NIGHT VISION: Without the LED floodlighting on, the Black & White night vision is sufficiently detailed and appropriately viewable. Note that once a “Detection” is triggered, the floodlights will activate, and the B&W view will switch to color.
APPLICATION: There are numerous options that might seem somewhat overwhelming at first glance. But once you become familiar with the app’s features, it just becomes tweaking the individual detection sensitivity settings for your unique environment. Goal being alerted when necessary, without being unnecessarily bothered for minor movements that may be somewhat annoying.
PICTURES: I have included pictures of our driveway and front yard views. One in daylight, one at night in B&W night vision, and at night when the floodlights are activated (70% intensity). Also two picture of the actual mounted TC55 on our garage.
RATING: The TP-Link Tapco TC55 earned itself a solid 5-Star rating for its 2K QHD video quality, feature rich application, and excelling floodlighting capabilities. And I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to capture video on an internal memory card, versus paying for a monthly subscription fee for cloud storage. Overall, Excellent Job!

Junction Box Installation (Option 1) Issues

I am having installation issues and tried contacting TP-Link by email, chat and phone call. Wihile on call, the rep seemed to understand the issue and was able to see the photos I emailed. However, 30 minites later received an email requesting photos.
The issue is their installation option 1 is on existing junction box. The illustration clearly shows a round outdoor junction box that is mounted on surface. However the light mounting is larger than tje box and there are gaps where water will come in. The installation step then magically changes from the junction box to a flat flush surface. It doesn't make sense.
I purchased 2 and planning to buy more. But if support is not able to undertand this basic issue, then I will be forced to return them. Really hoping they will come through.

Review for
TP Link Tapo Wired Floodlight Security Camera (TC55)
I was having WiFi problems with my older floodlight camera and was looking for something more modern that could replace it. I found this Tapo Security camera was just what I was looking for. The floodlights are so much brighter than my older unit, but even better, the resolution was 2K - twice that of my older HD camera. It would seem like HD (1280p) would be fine for most things, but it is surprisingly unsharp for things like faces and license plates that you may want to identify on security footage.
The Tapo unit comes with all the necessary hardware to connect either to a wall, under a soffit, or directly to an electrical box, if you already have one. The mounting template made drilling holes easy, and the mount itself has a built-in level to make sure you positioned it properly. Installation took less than 20 minutes.
In my opinion, the best reason to buy this unit is that it gives you a choice for storage. Many modern security cameras require a subscription in order to store sufficient footage to make the unit useful. The Tapo allows for a cloud-based storage (at a reasonable price!), but also, it lets you use a MicroSD card to store the footage locally - no subscription required! The unit accepts a MicroSD card up to 512MB - larger than most people would need - that by my (rough) calculations should allow for over two weeks of recordings - all at no additional cost than the card itself. This should more than cover any extended time away from the unit. You can even set the unit to start loop recording over the oldest footage, which makes day-to-day maintenance of recordings easy.
The system itself uses AI to learn faces and even cars to alert you when people you know (or don’t know) are recorded. You can program alerts to be as detailed as you need to detect people, pets, motion, vehicles, and camera tampering. My favorite feature is that you can detect what Tapo calls “line crossing.” Once you’ve positioned the camera, you access the camera’s view in the app and you can add lines that trigger a notification when they are crossed. So, whereas you may not want to know about every person walking by on the sidewalk, you can request a ping when someone comes up to your door or walks across your yard, or approaches your garage. This is especially great for package delivery, but also just for general security without random notifications every time someone passes by. It’s not perfect, I got a “line-crossing notification” when a squirrel ran up my sidewalk, but in fairness, he did cross the line. ;)

The TP Link Tapo Wired Floodlight Security Camera (TC55) is an excellent camera. It has almost all the major features you expect in a smart camera flood light. 2K resolution, 270° detection zone, smart AI motion, person, pet, and vehicle detection, bright 2800 lumens motion activated flood lights, IP65 rated, and geofencing... Sort of
The install for the TC55 was very easy to for since I already had an outdoor light/camera installed. The directions were very easy to read and understand. In fact, camera was one of the easiest to install. I like the bracket it comes with. It makes it easy to attach the camera to the house, and the camera itself has a very flexible rubber gasket or surround helping keep it water tight to house. In my case, since I have brick, I still used silicone to seal it to the house.
This camera has many AI motion detection features, but severely limits how you can use them. In the camera menu you only get access to Home or Away modes. Geofencing is sort of available, but a very limited way, and you have to jump through a few hoops(menus) to get access to it, but the only option you have control of is privacy mode on or off, which is basically camera on or off. Most cameras give you plenty of options for what type of motion detection and notifications you want in geofencing mode. Hopefully they address this soon in a firmware/software update. You shouldn't have to open the app to switch between home and away every time you leave or come home.
The TC55 has everything going for it, but the app in my opinion falls short. It could be that I already have a bunch of TP link, Kasa, and Tapo products, so my "home screen" is busy, but I feel the cameras should have their own separate app. Having to press a few icons to get to my cameras seems trivial, but having used many other brands with a dedicated app just for the cameras leads me to this opinion and preference. They could even add an option so that the camera part of the app would open first when you open the app.
The Tapo TC55 would easily be a 5* camera for me. The AI motion/person/pet/vehicle works phenomenally, but the app and lack of a usable geofencing option is holding it back. If you intend to use it for 24/7 surveillance this could be the camera for you.

The Tp link wired outdoor flood light is an excellent choice for those looking for a reliable, easy, and picture perfect smart floodlight. NO SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED!
Setup was easy and straight forward with the app walking you through step by step. Disclaimer: I replaced a vintage light that was from 50s. So I had to add a box and redo wiring at a high location. This took me a few days and time. However, the light install was easy and took me a total of 30 minutes max. I did attach this to a detached garage; however, I have a wifi mesh system in my house yard and garage so I did not have connectivity issues. Advice: make sure when you are installing the light in area accessible to wifi. The camera, lights, and the overall mount is flexible. You will have no problem mounting this camera under an eve, upside down, or on a side of a building. I have had other floodlights that were not as flexible and could only be used in certain mount positions (not the case here).
FEATURE PACKED! TP link packed as many security and convenience features as possible in this floodlight to give you peace of mind. The dimmable light totals 2800 lumens providing a bright and distant reaching light. The light’s motion sensor is super wide angled at 270 degrees and adjustable. The camera, located above the motion sensor, is crisp and sharp with a 2k sensor. equipped with “color” night vision, person and pet identifying AI. Activity zones are available if you need to block areas out or set zones of high priority for alerts. I needed to block areas so I don’t have to deal with neighbors pulling in their driveway. Blocking areas usually takes me time as I learn what and who is setting the boundaries off. The camera does have two way audio with an outdoor alarm option. I usually only use the audio option to listen if something is happening; however, it’s nice knowing I can speak back out if needed. Lastly the camera is able to offer no subscriptions because your data is stored locally and you will need a micro sd card. What’s amazing is this device supports up to 512gb cards. Typically devices do not support such a high amount and this is a pro as you will have to deal with less data management or cleaning the card to give more room. The camera is waterproof and has already survived a recent storm. It is light but appears to be well constructed. Finally, the app is packed with adjustability and accessibility to all of the camera and floodlights options are available without a subscription. The app is clean and intuitive for being free (10/10).
Overall a great option for someone who does not want a subscription based light. This floodlight may not be for you if you have an existing Eco system and don’t want to have a 2nd or multiple apps. You will want this light if you are avoiding subscription based companies.

The first TP-Link product I used was an exterior smart plug and I was extremely impressed with product and app integration. Since then I got an indoor camera and some of their indoor smart plugs. Both of those products have performed just as good as the outdoor smart plug and has made TP-Link my go to smart platform for such products. The biggest reason is the product to app integration, from the ease and speed of setup to the product always working when you open the app 99% of the time on the first time. This is important to me when you using plugs to turn on lights, but is especially important when opening a camera to see what is going on. Out of the many brands I’ve used TP-link has performed better than the rest.
When opting to replace my existing floodlight cam, I was hopeful the TP-Link floodlight camera would be the same and thankfully it has. Installation and setup is easier than non camera floodlights as it’s a two part system which makes installation easier. You attach the wires to the plastic base that attaches to your electrical box and then attach the floodlight cam. One of the best features of floodlight cameras like this compared to non camera models, is the ability to set the brightness of the light. If you don’t want fully brightness, you can set it at a level you’d like. TP-Link also lets you set up different types of detection, from motion, pet, vehicle, person and more. This also is designated by different colors of the motion. So for example a person is blue and a vehicle may be red and you know this as when motion is detected, the camera outlines the object and follows it. This is a first I’ve seen and I really like it. Motion detection is some of the best I’ve seen from security camera brands and allows for a lot of adjustment.
If you’re looking for a brand you can count on for an experience that makes owing a smart device easy, TP-Link should be at the top of your list. The biggest reason is the product to app integration, I know I’ve said this a lot but until you experience the headache of a smart device that’s a pain to operate and setup, you’ll understand why I emphasize it. Excellent product I can’t recommend enough!

If you are looking for a home solution that mergers a modern floodlight and camera then the TP-Link Wired Floodlight fits the Bill. I a multi system of devices of other brands so I will compare this to its performance.
First this device has some heft to it which is good meaning quality parts and didn’t feel like it was going to blow away or break during storms. I live near the ocean so I get 60+ mph winds on the regular.
Once I set this up and got it wired, it was simple to get connected to the WiFi and got an image in the app very quickly. Signal strength was actually really good as it’s about 200ft from the mesh system station.
I was dealing with severe storms so my image quality isn’t a full representation of how clear it it actually is in its Quad HD or 2k. The system didn’t have a degraded effect during a storm as you can see in my images.
In the night, the night vision during heavy rain performed very well. I can make everything out. Additionally in the dark early morning hours the flood lights lit up very bright and was able to capture the yard and driveway very well with its 270 degree view.

This is a great combination unit that was easy to install for someone who has installed light fixtures before. Great video quality and it has local storage of the video. As it states in the warnings, it is very fussy about the micro SD card used. I had two cards from other uses. One of them worked and the other one did not. See the web site for the recommended cards to use. I bought one of the recommended cards that had a larger capacity than the one that I had that worked..

Camera is too good and powerful , even at night great visibility. Lights are very powerful now the road infront of the house also has light. This is very economical compared to other devices in the market for basic use of light and camera.

Great camera and lighting. Application is easy to use. Some of the controls and sensing need to be refined at this point in the software (ex: motion detection is off because it detects a pixel change like mist in the air or a few leaves shaking on a tree and it lights up/records. I've tried various iterations and haven't found that goldilocks setting yet). Otherwise the camera is great and it doesn't require a subscription. I've set up a few Tapo cameras around the house and i'm very happy with the results.

The camera works really well. It took a little bit of trial and error to adjust the settings but I am really happy with it now. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it is lacking a feature in my opinion. At night, when an event (as defined in the settings you choose) is detected, I wish the lights would come on in addition to the audible alarm. That would make it absolutely perfect.

These are just ok. It serves the basic purpose. The lighting is more than sufficient. The talkback microphone could be a bit better. The camera quality and sound recording quality is pretty good. The thing I hate about these cameras is they drop off of the wifi way too often. I had a different brand at my last house and that was NEVER the case over the 3 years I had them. I've only had these for about 2 months. Thankfully I wired them up where I took down my flood lights. That means they are actually wired to a light switch, which makes it easy to turn them off and on. I usually have to hit that switch once every 2 to 3 days. I have 4 of these and the same thing happens on all 4. That's the only way I've been able to get them to reconnect. Thankfully, when the network is lost, they still have power so they are still recording. I just can't look at live video. I have to go look at the playback once they reconnect to the wifi.

Hi Perfect,
Thank you for your review.
We also suggest making sure the Floodlight Camera's firmware is fully up to date. The Tapo app will automatically remind and prompt you when firmware updates are available for your devices.
Our support team is always happy to help answer any questions about our products. Please feel free to reach out using any of the resources included with the product, or from our official website, and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly.
Thank you, TP-Link Support

Fantastic for the money and even compared to much more expensive cameras. TP-Link appears to listen to customers as a few of the items for improvement have already been updated - examples, the time zone not being correct and ability to assign a static IP. Still (Aug. 2024) no good options for changing WIFI, need to factory reset device. Does connect to iSpy/Agent DVR, I got best results connecting to rtsp://xxxxxxx:xxx/stream1
