    A little short of excellence.

Pros: Good looking, functional design. Useful microphone adjustments. Helpful gaming audio presets (with the exception of Footsteps Focus). Compatible with PC, PS4 (not Slim because Sony removed the digital audio out), and Xbox One. Excellent audio when matched with the proper impedance headset. Positional audio as good as it gets with headphones (which is far from perfect as you cannot get true surround with any headphones -- it's all simulated). Cons: Xbox One compatibility requires the use of an additional cable to connect the TAC to the XB1 controller.

This review is based on gaming experience only, on PS4... According to Best Buy's rating system two stars is "fair" and the performance of this product at this price is definitely NOT fair. So I gave it one star, "poor". The pros, it works with just about all gaming consoles and the two good presets sound good but to a point. (more about that later). The cons.... The surround sound is not good, at all. Though you are supposed to hear things as if the sound is all around you the TB T.A.C did a very poor job at that. The sound almost felt like stereo although it was set correctly in surround sound, I triple checked to make sure. It has 16 presets, however, 4 are stereo, 4 are for movies, 4 are for music and there are only 4 designed for gaming. Tried them all and for gaming the only ones that were good were the few designed for gaming, go figure. The real sad part is that out of those four, only two were good, "signature sound" and "shooter". The other two were complete trash, "super human hearing" and "footstep focus". Super human hearing sounded like a school's P.A system and footstep focus had an exaggerated amount of base which ironically did not allow you to focus on footsteps. WTF! Signature sound and shooter were good but only really worked well in campaign and/or casual gameplay, they didn't fare well during competitive/multiplayer gaming. The on-board controls work well but once you find a good spot for all the settings you don't want to move them and that can be annoying cause the sliders are easily moved by the slightest touch. So you'll find yourself adjusting the settings at least once or twice every single time you play. On-board controls are good in theory but not in real life. The TB T.A.C offers no advantages over it's competition yet it boasts a higher price tag and this is simply unacceptable. Hope this helps.

I was hoping that this amp would beat the Astro mix amp. It does not. The sound quality goes down in my opinion and if you turn up the volume it bleeds through your mic if you have the feedback barely on.

Well it works, I think it has some serious flaws when just trying to hook it up via USB into a PS4 or PC, (Xbox doesn't support usb mics) but when using an optical cable in conjunction with the usb (at least on PS4) it works and sounds great. The product is flawed, but does work, especially if it's something you need for a certain application.

If this is on a cpu desk it may work fine. Also this may no longer be needed because off apps that supposedly do the same thing. You may not even notice the difference in sound. Save your money and do without?

Ok. I bought this along with the Elite Pro. I wasn’t clear until I got the product that I would have to connect it to the controller AND have to by an extra $50 adapter because I have an older controller. I needed up with the ASTRO A40 tr and don’t have to connect to my controller at all.

Complete waste of money. 150 just for the capability to have surround sound. Which honestly didnt help the crap audio quality of the elite pro headset. I use the elite 800s and have never had any other headset come close to them in sound quality.

Proved to be the solution to the head phone problem. We purchased multiple headphones with audio controllers that didn't live up to the hype. This solved the issues the others had. I highly recommend this to others !

I bought the Turtle Beach pro headset and didn't realize I got the 3.5mm version and not the USB connected device. The TAC is expensive, coming in at nearly the price of the headset. There are multiple settings for different sound environments. In FPS, the footstep mode dominates. I can constantly hear people walking that my teammates don't in PUBG.

Was very skeptical about spending the money. If you’re looking for clear sound and many different presents I’d highly recommend purchasing the T.A.C. It’s almost cheating on how clear game sounds are.

Bought this because I like controlling my sound externally instead of with software and it does the job just like it needs to.

I purchased this amp in the package deal with the pro elite headset, as well as the noise cancelling mic. I figured that if I spent $430, I should get an amazing audio experience. After having the package overnighted to me (only an additional seven dollars on top of my two day free). I set it up exactly how the instructions stated. Went into my first game on Overwatch (XB1) and was immediately disappointed. In the headset, overpowering everything else was an extremely loud sound, as if someone was grabbing and blowing hard into the microphone. After process of elimination with using multiple controllers, the basic mic, hardwire just the mic to the controller, and even using the HAC that I had from a previous mic I discovered that the TAC was completely defective. There was no discernable difference with audio quality compared to the headset alone, and it was in fact the reason I'm getting the incredibly annoying feedback. I've contacted Turtle Beach customer support in hopes they remedy the situation. If not, the product will be returned as a whole.
