Customers are impressed with the Dots 200 RGB LED USB Flexible Light String's vibrant colors, flexibility, and user-friendly app control. The installation process is generally straightforward, allowing for easy customization. However, some users have expressed concerns about the inconsistent quality of the included adhesive and the design limitation posed by having two separate strings of lights instead of one continuous strand.

    Another great Twinkly product

This is my 11th Twinkly product, I now have 2,700 controlled lights. I'll start with my complaints, the diagram on the box makes it look like 1 string with 200 connected lights, when infact you get a controller in the middle of 2 sets of 100 lights (this makes placement much more difficult). Second I only received 45 adhesive dots for my 200 lights. I was going to place them pointing down under a long shelf, but with an adhesive dot every 4 dots, they drooped; not the effect I wanted. I still might do this with hot glue (pending wife approval). And the two strands complicate how I was going to hide the controller. I've been using Twinkly products at Christmas, Halloween and 4th of July for 4 years. I really like the quality of their products and the special effects they offer out of the box (and continue to add online) and what can be programmed on your own. These dots are not really that new of a concept but the quality is seconds to none [but I do wish they were IP67 (waterproof) vs IP44 (splashproof)]. As I said I've not placed them where I'd planned to, but I wanted to show you how accurately light mapping works in some of my images. I had no difficulty getting these dots hooked up to my wifi network, but I do have a dedicated SSID for my Twinkly lights, if you have a lot of lights this is strongly recommended. When I first went over 2,000 lights I contacted their TS to determine how to best support more lights than they "documented". They suggested grouping sets and a dedicated fast wi-fi network. When I set these DOTS up I did not have my other lights connected (what no xmas lights in July?). Each dot is a little wider than 1/4" and about 1/8" thick, and there is 2" of wire between each dot, so each of the strand of 100 lights is 16' 3" long (first light to last), not exactly what I found documented. The dots have a nice glow to them, they are pretty bright, but with a soft glow. The light only comes out of one side, so mounting them consistently is important to get a clean effect. The supplied double stick adhesive dots do a good job on flat surfaces, but for course surface you have to find another method. I don't understand why they don't supply more adhesive dots than led lights, hopefully this is an oversight and will be corrected. I understand that the lights are available in sets of 50, 200 and 400 with transparent or black wires. In the images I've showed how the mapping function can be used to identify where each light is located and then larger 2d images can also be used with these dots (not just line effects). I'm fan of Twinkly lights, there are some things they can correct with the 200 dots packaging.

Hi! Thanks very much for your review!
We always try to listen to our customers' feedback and that is why we have decided to introduce a set of additional mouting tapes soon, for those who wish to make installations attached to some surface.
They will be available in the coming months; in the meantime, you can use a standard double-sided adhesive tape, choosing them from the ones with higher adhesion! twinkly

Twinkly Dots is a very sophisticated programmable multi-color LED lighting system which is controllable by a mobile app and compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit. A wide variety of pre-programmed effects are available on the app or you can create your own complex lighting patterns. The set can be wirelessly connected to other Twinkly systems to extend the effects across a vast area. The Twinkly product line is designed by LEDWorks, an Italian technology company founded in 2016 and based in Milan, Italy. Twinkly Dots are one of many inter-operable Twinkly home products, which include Strings, Cluster, Icicle, Curtain, Festoon, Flex, Line and Music. Here are the relevant features and specifications: • Twinkly Generation II Dots (Model TWD200STP-TUS) • 200 high quality 7 mm RGB LED lights • LED spacing: 5 cm/1.96 inch • Total length: 10 m/32.8 feet • Generation II controller has dual core chip for faster processing and larger memory • Power adapter connects to Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit • Connection through Home WiFi network, Direct WiFi mode or Bluetooth • IP 44 rated: Resistant to water splashed from every direction • Operating temperature tolerance: 5 degrees to 104 degrees Fahrenheit • Each LED can accurately display 16 million colors • Twinkly app allows pre-programmed effects or individual customization • Timer and dimmer controls within the app • Up to 4,000 lights can be combined/controlled within the Twinkly app • Synchronization with music is possible with the Music component • Includes 50 adhesive pads • One year parts and labor warranty When you open the box and unpack the lights you will be impressed by the solid feel and quality of construction. The small round LED lights are connected with a top quality and flexible wire which has multiple filaments to manage the colors and effects to each LED. The power connection plug is adjustable to allow horizontal or vertical placement. The controller is located between the two strings of 100 lights. This is an unfortunate design (as other reviewers have noted) because it limits flexibility in placing the lights. After unwrapping the light strings from their Velcro bindings you can lay out the lights by wrapping them around objects, placing them on plants, Christmas trees, video screens, counters, furniture, windows, etc. in whatever pattern you like. The package includes 50 adhesive pads for attaching the lights to surfaces. Frankly, this is pretty stingy. There should be 200 adhesive pads to allow a permanent design structure for the lights! But you can use double-sided adhesive tape to accomplish what the pads do, so it is really more of an annoyance than a major problem. Next, download the Twinkly app and create an account. The app will guide you through the process of connecting to the light string (usually by joining your home WiFi network) and will download a firmware update. Once that is done the app will ask you to “map” the lights by using your phone’s camera. This mapping process enables the app to apply sophisticated patterns in various colors to your lights. The first time you activate the lights you will be very impressed by the beautiful colors and varying brightness levels which they produce. The color purity is outstanding and reflects the very high quality of the LEDs used. Red color purity is >95%, blue color purity is >90% and green color purity is >65%. Each color can have one of 256 levels and the combination of three primary colors at those various levels generates 16,777,216 individual colors at each LED. The app-managed controller has a dual core processor with substantial RAM which can store very complex patterns and color combinations and activate them quickly. The Twinkly app contains many pre-programmed patterns and colors for the lights. It also includes timers to allow you set an on time and an off time for your lights. You can add multiple Twinkly products (up to 4,000 lights) and control all as a single light system. And you can use your Alexa or Google Assistant to activate the entire system! Once you have become familiar with the pre-programmed designs you can design your own patterns and effects in the app (which includes a free-form drawing tool!) It takes a bit of experimenting to really understand the capabilities of the Twinkly system but once you have played with it a bit you start to rationalize purchasing more systems to give you more flexibility and to add to your design. The beauty of the lights and the designs cannot be over-emphasized. The bottom line on this amazing and complex lighting system is that it makes incredible holiday lighting designs possible, but year-round you can achieve really creative effects by adding dramatic décor accents to your home. I debated giving it just four stars because of the poor controller placement between the two 100 light strings and the lack of 200 adhesive pads, but the overall quality and beauty is so remarkable that it really does deserve five stars in spite of those flaws. Highly recommended!

    Very Cool Lights

Over the years, we've purchased some off-brand string lights that have been "sufficient". I say that now because I have these lights to compare with. These Twinkly string lights are high quality lights. The individual lights are integrated onto a synthetic fabric-type of material. This provides the kind of flexibility that makes it very easy to work with when mounting the light string. I say "easy to work with" but there is still the matter of securing the 200 light string, which is done by using the included sticky dots. As mentioned in other reviews, they do not provide enough of these dots to mount the 200 lights. I ended up using a dot about every 4 lights. I noticed that there was some sag in certain areas so I ended up also using Gorilla Mounting Putty to help secure the lights to the surface. As you can see in the included photo, I mounted the lights to the underside of a bed. I think it looks awesome, but it actually caused a challenge within the app. One of the features of the app is that it offers mapping of the lights. This functionality allows the app to "see" the layout of the lights, so you can have better control over the patterns and colors. I tried the easy and then the advanced mapping and both failed. It could only map 26/200 of the lights. In retrospect, perhaps I should have laid out the lights on the floor, mimicking the way I was going to mount them, then tried the mapping feature. It seems it needs to see all the lights in order to work. Other than mapping, the app allows you to have some pretty cool control over the lights. It also has a timer function so you can set automatic on and off times. I was also able to connect the lights to our Google Home. So now we can ask Google to turn on/off the lights. I still need to do some research on what other commands Google will recognize for these lights. Overall, I definitely recommend the Twinkly Dots Light String. The lights are great quality and the app has some great features AND Google can control them.

These LED dots are one of the many Twinkly lighting products. They are well made, light weight, and provide almost unlimited variation. It was easy to download and configure them using the Twinkly app. I was able to quickly create an account using my Apple ID. You can also use your Facebook login - or if you don’t like those choices, you can create a standard account with an email and password. You need to create an account in order to fully enjoy the app. Once I had an account, the app updated the firmware on the lights. Then, connecting them to my network was fast and easy. I was impressed with the design and layout of the app. It makes it easy to adjust the dots to a particular color or brightness level, and to set them on a schedule. But the real fun is playing with the *many* options for animating the lights. I was disappointed to find that the dots claimed they came with adhesive pads for attaching them, but there were none in the box (nor were the pads listed on the box as included). Fortunately, the strings and dots are light weight, so any double-sided adhesive foam would probably work. Secondly, although the “string” includes 200 light dots, it’s really two 100 strings connected to the main plug (see picture), so you have to install them knowing this.

TLDR: (that’s Too Long, Didn’t Read) The lights themselves are really high quality. They’re bright and clear and the control box is small and easy to hide. The app is the star of the show and what really shines (ha!). Map out your lights after laying them out and the app can do amazing things with them! Pros: * Bright and clear lights with a diffused cover. * Each light is individually addressable. * The wire between the lights is thin, flat and clear. * The control box is small and easy to hide. * WiFi for easy control from anywhere. Cons: * This set is not waterproof so they are for indoor use only. * Two sets of strings and you can’t remove or shorten either. * The power adapter is HUGE. * Would be nice to be able to vary the settings by time and not have have them turn on/off. Details - Setup: After you’ve untangled them and mounted them wherever you want them, start up the app and pair it to your lights. This will also get them up on your WiFi so you can control them from anywhere. This part was really easy. Once they’re laid out how you want them and are connected to the app, you can start the fun of choosing what they’ll do. While not required, if you map the lights in the app, they’ll work better as a canvas for showing whatever you want on them. In the app, you point your phone’s camera at the layout and tell it map your lights. It will then use a photo of the layout and identify every bulb. If you ever adjust your layout, just remember to do this step again. Now you can play around and choose colors, patterns, animations, even text to show on your layout! It was fun and easy to make these lights do just about anything. You can even link multiple Twinkly sets together and have their layouts align. Theoretically, you can create a huge video display with these and show whatever you want on them. The app even has an Effects Store where you can browse for and download pre-made effects for various events, holidays, etc. All the ones I browsed were free but they are set up to have paid options later, I’m sure. Usage: From the app, you can “save” a number of effects or patterns to the light control box so it can run that pattern on demand and switch patterns with the button on the control box. The lights can also be set to turn on or off and a single preset time of day and display your selected effect. I would like to have more programming options; perhaps have multiple On/Off timers each with a different effect, but this might only be a firmware update away. Conclusion: These are really cool lights that are easy to set up and have more options than you can write about in a review like this. I can only imagine what you could do with multiple sets all linked together!

This is my first Twinkly product and these things are awesome, made awesomer (I know) because they have Kitt! So if you know you know, but the fact they have the option to add Kitt as a lighting effect is worth a purchase just for that! With my nostalgia for one of the best 80s shows out of the way, these things really are sweet. Unlike strings lights that are generally best placed in a straight line, these are flexible and can be made to conform to almost any shape. You attach the lights with the included double sided adhesive circles. Setting up the lights is as simple as it gets with the Twinkly app. When using “smart home” products I judge them by how good the app is in terms of setup, how easy and quick it connects to the product. On this front Twinkly gets an A+, setup takes maybe 5 minutes and it connects the first time every time and changing the colors or settings are almost instant. The lights can be used with any number of effects in the app or you can have a static color. You also have the ability to create custom lighting effects in the app and like other smart lighting you can also set the lights to turn on and off at a set times. If you want to add some flare with cool lights that can conform to almost any shape, Twinkly lights are the way to go.

    Twinkly Dots Are Great!

Twinkly Dots is another innovative product in the Twinkly lineup. I am impressed by the ease of setup, quality LED lights, and great mobile app. Pros: • Packaging – The package does not waste any space. It is a nice lightweight box that contains an instruction guide, 4 stickers, a generation II controller, adhesive dots, and the light string measuring 33 feet in length with 200 RGB LED lights. • Setup – Prior to installing the light string, I wanted to make sure that there were not any dead lights. I downloaded the mobile iOS app and followed the instructions. It gives you the option to use a Bluetooth connection or Wi-Fi connection. I ended up going with the Wi-Fi connection option as it was recommended and so I did not have to be within Bluetooth range. Within about 5 minutes I was up and running. All the lights functioned so I was ready to install them. • Installation – It was straightforward to attach them to the undersurface on my bedframe. They provide you with approximately 50 adhesive dots designed to be put on the back of many of the LED lights (approximately an adhesive dot every 4 lights which was more than enough to hold them up). • Mobile App – The mobile app is impressive. I was really surprised how user friendly it is and how well it just works. It allows you to set a timer, adjust the brightness, select effects from the gallery, use the FX Wizard to create your own effects, and map the lights to improve the accuracy of your effects. • LED lights – Overall, I am impressed with the build quality of these lights. The string is very flexible and does not feel like it will tear/break. The lights have a nice glow and can get quite bright. Cons: • Instruction guide – It has limited information. • Adhesive dot replacement – Even after searching the manufacturer website and Googling what type of adhesive dots are used to connect to these lights, I cannot find OEM replacements. It would be nice if the company offered the ability to buy replacements directly from them or at least information on the size/brand used. Overall, I think the Twinkly lights are great. They have endless creative possibilities. I highly recommend them if you are in the market for LED string lights.

This is the first programable string lights I have owned and so far, I am impressed. I originally wanted these lights for Halloween and Christmas, but after playing with them I will end up using them in my patio. I set them up on the 2nd story balusters to get an idea of what they look like. Setup was very smooth and after the quick firmware update, I was ready to use the lights. The mapping on the app is touted as “the first of its kind,” and I would have to agree. I would not have thought it would be so simple to customize a light pattern until I started playing with the app. All you have to do is make a pattern with the string lights, follow the on-screen directions on the app, and the app does the rest. Even though the app gives a lot of preprogrammed patterns, you can even make a custom design or download additional designs. I can’t state how impressed I was with the setup, but I was equally impressed with the brightness of the lights and how vivid the colors were. Pros Bright lights Vivid colors Ease of use/programing Outdoor/indoor use Cons None so far I would highly recommend these for anyone who wants fully programmable lights which anyone can figure out. I plan on purchasing a longer string of these lights to use during the holidays.

I was a little unsure when I first got these of what they could be used for outside of the winter holiday season, but the ease of setting up the lights for any occasion and changing them to suit the mood of the day makes them so incredibly versatile! We have set them up in numerous locations over the past week to try them out and they look great! The box comes with a few different adhesives to stick the two strands of lights more permanently to walls, stairs, windows, or bar carts. The last one was our favorite, as our bar carts and storage cubes look like normal modern furniture until we turn the lights on! Having two strands of lights coming out of the control unit allows for excellent flexibility and endless amounts of options to let your creative juices flow while you play around with and find different uses for the Twinkly Dots! I am so excited for the holidays to be able to use these to further enhance our holiday spirit and bring joy to an otherwise normal looking living room! I would definitely recommend going out and buying these, play around with the settings, create a few scenes with the app's extremely easy mapping tool and have fun!

The Twinkly RGB LED Light Strings are bright and well saturated. It comes with a handful of presets that are plug and play by clicking the remote. In my opinion, the app is what makes this light set worth it. If you can get a successful wifi connection, this dual strand of lights is pretty cool to have. The Twinkly app has 5 panels: Controls, Gallery, FX Wizard (create your own FX), Layout (mapping), and Devices. 1. CONTROLS - This panel is where you can Power On/Off the lights remotely, control the brightness 0-100%, select solid colors, navigate your saved effects, and set a timer. The more notable settings in this panel are Color (solid color) and Effects where you can see the saved effects that are now available on the physical control. I’m hoping they have an update soon that changes a few of the settings to make it more user friendly. For instance, when you save new effects to your remote, you can only delete the latest one - there should definitely be an update to the app so you can delete any saved effect and rearrange the effects. 2. GALLERY - The app offers a good variety of effects that can be modified and saved to your Effects (later found in the Controls panel). Aside from modifying the effects themselves, you can also apply an “audio” effect where the app twinkles the lights to the rhythm of voices or music. The Gallery panel has a Playlist feature where you can program the lights to play multiple effects in your preferred order, each for a set amount of time customizable in increments of seconds and minutes up to 1 hour. There is a limit to how much you can add to the playist, but I added over 10 effects and the device memory went down to 66% so I think there’s plenty of room to customize the playlist to your liking. The other interesting feature to the Gallery panel is free, downloadable effects. 3. FX WIZARD - This panel allows the user to layer up to 3 patterns from a selection of 6 patterns. Each pattern is editable to a certain extent. The difference between editing an effect in the gallery is that you can edit 1 effect at a time, whereas in the FX Wizard, you can stack patterns and edit each pattern to create layered effects. The other feature in the FX Wizard is the hand drawn effect. If your lights are mapped well, you can actually manipulate each dot to be whatever color you want. 4. LAYOUT - Once the strands are set up, the app allows you to map the lights to have a digital visual of the shape or physical setup of the strands to have the effects flow in a pleasing way. I recommend mapping these lights in a dark room. When I mapped the lights in a room that lets in a lot of light during the day time, the colors were not accurate when selecting a solid color from the app. I did have a lot of connection issues in the beginning, but I ended up getting a new modem/router and the lights were able to connect after that. 5. DEVICES - You can hit play on the playlist from this panel as well as see some tech info. I assume that if you have multiple sets, you can hit play from here for all the sets. Overall, these lights are pretty cool so long as I can customize effects and colors with the app. I only like one or two of the presets on the remote (which can’t be removed or customized) so without the wifi connection, the lights aren’t super exciting. The power cord and remote are a bit bulky, but they can be concealed when setting them up, so I don’t see that being a huge issue. An update to the app would bump the rating to 5 stars for me, but for now, it’s still a good product which is why I gave it 4 stars.

The Twinkly Dots light string is much more than just expensive Christmas lights! This set has 200 individual “dots” connected by a very flexible clear cable. Rather than one string of 200 dots like I expected, there are two strings of 100 with the controller box in the middle - limiting your design concepts. There is a decent length of cable between the controller and first dot as well as a long power cable which helps a lot. Unfortunately, there are only 45 double-faced mounting dots included with this set so mount wisely. The dots are white plastic which gives some colors a nice pastel look but the primary red, blue and green are strong colors and show up rich and colorful. Also know there is a front and back to the dots when you mount them. Of course there’s an app for that. Once you set up an account connecting the lights to my Wi-Fi was straightforward. I like that if you don't have Wi-Fi, the control box has its own signal so no worries if you only use your phone for your internet. The app also allows you to connect your dots to Alexa, Google and Siri. Once you get your lights set up, the app is where the magic happens. Using the app, you take a video of the lights in whatever configuration you choose and the app “Maps” the dots. When you have your design mapped, you now have the ability to have full motion movement of the light like waves of color and spinning wheels of light. You can also draw your own motion designs. I can see with enough strings of dots and some patience, you could make a giant text display. You can control the brightness and speed of the motion, turn the string on and off either manually or by setting a timer. If you don't like the included animations in the app, you can go to the twinkly store by clicking on the cloud icon in the upper right corner of the app and download additional effects which is really cool. Unlike rope lights, you can not string sets together to make one long rope of lights but the app does allow you to program multiple sets together. According to the manual, the dots have an IP44 rating so they can be used both indoors and out. Speaking of the manual, the type is so small that I needed a magnifying glass to read it. This is true for the writing on the box as well. Fortunately, there is an online version at help.twinkly.com. I really like the Twinkly Dots light set and can see myself purchasing additional sets for holiday decorating. I give Twinkly Dots four stars for only including 45 mounting tapes and for being two separate strings rather than one long string but would and have recommended them to friends.

Hi! Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Due to feedback from our customers, we have decided to introduce a set of additional mouting tapes soon, for those who wish to make installations attached to some surface.
They will be available in the coming months; in the meantime, you can use a standard double-sided adhesive tape, choosing them from the ones with higher adhesion! twinkly

Living alone with few close relatives, I’m not really a Christmas decorating kind of guy these days. And although many these days decorate their houses for all kinds of different celebrations, I’ve kind of stayed away from that, though I do have colored RGB landscape lighting. But I’d always marveled at the cool effects I’ve seen with Twinkly Lights so when they came out with the Dots series, I figured it was time to take the plunge. I’m glad I did, because I’m really seeing the potential in adding these lights to my current smart lighting! It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows with their app at first, though I am glad I persisted and tried a different device. I initially started out setting the lights up on a Samsung tablet and while I got the lights connected to my network on the second or third try, for the life of me I could NOT get the mapping to work. No matter how still I held the camera or how I framed the lights, the best I could do was 1 or 2 LEDs successfully mapped. Everything else seemed to work but the mapping. Even the effects seemed to work (for the most part; some were weirdly rendered because of the lack of mapping points). I then installed the app on my phone, and it mapped almost immediately and only missed a few LEDs (which was later solved by using the advance mapping and taking multiple shots with the camera). This made a noticeable difference in the way that even simple effects were rendered and a HUGE change in the more dimensional effects. It just looks amazing. The lights themselves are bright and richly saturated in color; I’d objectively say they are the brightest LEDs in the room, which includes Hue, Sengled and DIY LED strips. The color rendition is amazing, and images really don’t do them justice; you truly appreciate this when you see them in person for the first time! I ended up stringing mine on a large tropical plant/tree in my living room. I’d had some other ideas, but I had to rule them out for various reasons. There were a couple of ideas I wanted to try for my backyard, but I was afraid of water issues. Twinly Dots are IP44 rated, which is fine if you want to mount them under an eave or surrounding a protected window, but I’d prefer IP65 for the areas I was going to use there. I had also considered the front windows of the house, but one string would have only done the one window, which I thought would have looked funny. But I think I’ll be getting more soon and do both windows. The lights and effects just look so good, I kind of want to decorate for the holidays now! I feel like the value for the price is justified here; it's reasonable for the quality and options you're getting. I just wish they would consider that many smart home users prefer tablets for managing their devices, but sadly this is not the first review where I experienced that kind of an issue. I would highly recommend these for anyone who likes unique lighting or loves a different holiday light display than the neighbors - though I have to imagine that you won’t have the exclusive for long!

These are cool. They move to music, but to r only way to get them to move to music is have it really loud, or for the phone by the speaker. They are tied to the app, so that’s the only bummer, otherwise these are fun and good looking. A bit pricey for LED lights.

I love these lights - they look great and have a ton of cool functionality. The only thing i wasnt expecting was that the lights are connected in the center. These lights are split in the center (~17 feet) and are NOT daisy chained. They are not two independent strands of lights. So, its 17 feet, the power supply, and then the remaining 17 feet. It wasnt too big of a deal for what i used it for, but it is something to note before purchasing.

Hi! the lights are made like this for technical reasons, but, keep in mind that, thanks to Twinkly advanced technology you can string your lights any way you want, after which the Twinkly app does the rest, mapping and creating a precise digital model of them. twinkly
