I saw the marketing image of a guy using this keyboard on his lap in a jeep and I thought, this is the keyboard for me. I sit in meetings without desks and need a sturdy surface to type while my ipad is perched on my knees. I was surprised at how heavy this thing is and kept thinking about returning it, but the solidity can be satisfying. It's kind of like keeping a delicate rose in a tank. The ipad is held by a bar magnet the width of the ipad and once fell off as I was juggling papers. Because the ipad comes in its own sturdy case, it wasn't hurt, luckily landing on the carpet of the committee hearing room floor. The choice of color key lights are a thrill so I am giving this 5 stars, though I think a tough material doesn't have to be this heavy.

At first I thought it was too heavy and bulky, but afte using it for a while it appears to be more solid rather than heavy and protective more than bulky. The extra weight gives it a laptop type of feel that I like. Rests well on your lap and table. The magnet is plenty strong to keep it from slipping on you easily.
I've tried a good amount of these now, always feeling disappointed in the quality. Finally, with this one the quality has really been singing through.

I am trying to use my iPads as a laptop replacement, and several of the 3rd party keyboards (even the Apple ones) do bring that reality closer, but with gaps. I wished that Apple came up with a magic keyboard version for the regular base iPad instead of the folio keyboards that lack a trackpad.
UAG has created the closest to a magic keyboard for the standard iPad. Not only does it have a great keyboard but also added that trackpad to stimulate the closest to a laptop feel experience. I was very excited to try this out for my home office and work needs and here are my observations.
Firstly, the keyboard typing experience is amazing. The keys feel really nice and firm, not soft or flimsy. So trying away feels really good. The trackpad does not feel cheap and it is really responsive to my touch. There is good movement and key travel for a device this small.
Secondly, the keyboard has very nice features. You can connect it to two different devices at the same time. At the top left of the function keys are two Bluetooth buttons. You can connect to two different devices which is what I did: to my 9th Gen iPad and for my son’s iPad Air 3rd Gen. This makes it very convenient to switch devices. The keyboard is also backlit and has a long battery life. Thankfully this can be charged via usb-c and does not draw power from the iPad itself.
Thirdly, viewing angles and portability. The iPad is placed securely in a detachable rugged case. UAG is known for their rugged cases and the fact that this is detachable so you can easily take it from the keyboard when you are not typing and want to scroll the web or watch on the couch. When connected to the keyboard, you have multiple viewing angles as it magnetically connects to the back sleeve. It is reminiscent to Google’s Pixel Slate where you can slide the back sleeve down or up to the right viewing angle. The magnets are built into the sides of the rugged case and is not in the center of the clear plastic. It’s a nice minimalistic look. You also have a dedicated Apple Pencil 1st Gen holder on the side so that you know where it is and it won’t disappear.
Is it perfect? By no means. The keyboard and case brings a lot of weight and bulk to your iPad. But you get this kind of case knowing you are going to have it tumble around in a bag or in your environment. Yes it gets heavy but you know that your iPad is going to be safe.
Overall, this is a great keyboard and case for your iPad.

The UAG (Urban Armor Gear) Metropolis Apple iPad Tablet and Keyboard Folio is designed to work with 7th, 8th and 9th generations of iPads with a 10.2 screen. There are really two parts to the case. There is the “iPad case” that snaps into place protecting the iPad backside. The other part of the case is separate, the “Keyboard case” that provides 360 degrees of protection. The “iPad case” magnetically snaps in the “Keyboard case”. The “Keyboard case” then shuts around the “iPad case" using magnets as well. These magnets are quite strong. When the iPad case fits into the “Keyboard case”, it will not move around at all! *Important – keep the white label next to the Touchpad on the keyboard so it’s easier to connect Bluetooth from the keyboard to your iPad.*
o The UAG Metropolis iPad “Keyboard case” and “iPad case” are definitely much heavier than other iPad cases I have had. But all is forgiven, i.e., weight, because of the protection of the “iPad case” and “Keyboard case” provide. It's true 360 degrees of protection (drops even up to 8ft). I suppose you could drop the case at 8ft, but it is an example of how sturdy and protective the case to handle a 4ft drop or 5ft drop which seems more likely. But the point is made that the case will handle the rough stuff.
o The “Keyboard case” is extremely rugged and can definitely handle the tough stuff. I found that the keys are sized right and have a great grip and with proper resistance when typing. The keyboard really has a great flow to it. The Touchpad, which sets just below the keys, is rather large for the size of the keyboard. This is not a bad thing. The space provides more room to allow subtle maneuvers around Touchpad. This is handy while did my web browsing.
o Powerful magnets help the cases to lock into 4 positions viewing positions. The protective side screen on the “Keyboard case” folds back creating for the setup for 4 viewing angles. They are Type, View, Sketch and Read. I prefer the more upright setting of Typing in which the screen is more upright. The following 3 settings move the screen view downward with each adjustment from the magnetic on the back of the “Keyboard case”.
o When you close the “Keyboard case” front over the iPad screen, the sleep function will take place (just like any other iPad). The screen will wake back up with the lifting up of the cover. That is pretty standard with most cases that have a protection for the iPad screen.
o After charging Keyboard roughly 1.5 hrs fully with supplied Type C charging cable, the powering of the keyboard could last up to 6 months. You can also charge the keyboard with another device that will accept the Type C charging cable. How long will the charge last? It really depends on how much the keyboard is being used. I like the options when the battery gets low on power (listed above). The Charging port for the keyboard that the Type C cable plugs into is on the lower right side of the keyboard.
o The keyboard connection to the iPad is Bluetooth (up to 2 iPads). Be sure to have your Bluetooth on with the iPad so you to pair with the keyboard. To get the keyboard ready to pair, first turn on your keyboard by pressing down the power button (upper right of keyboard). Select the #1 or #2 on the keyboard’s left upper side for the correct device to connect by Bluetooth. I choose #1 and held it down for 3 seconds until the power button began flashing quickly. I already have the Bluetooth on, so the keyboard will show up with a pass key to finish the Bluetooth connection. The first 5 digits are provided on the *white label* next to the Touchpad. You will see another 4 digits to input from the keyboard. Finally enter the provided number and press enter. Successful? It took me a couple of times to get it the iPad and keyboard synced together, but once you have done it a couple of times it definitely gets easier.
o Once connected, the iPad with keyboard is much like a regular setup of a computer and feels very familiar. You can use your touch screen, but the keyboard can now handle the workload. Almost all of the functions you will use are on the keyboard’s top row (except for battery life, and colors for the keyboard). Holding down the function key and then an action key will give you just about everything to help run you iPad. The Touchpad is also available and easy to use, just like any other touchpad on a PC. The surface feels a little tacky at first but will become smoother the more I used it.
o Once you have turned on the keyboard, used Bluetooth for connecting to the iPad, now everything is ready for use on the keyboard! To check battery life on the keyboard, press the function key (lower left on the keyboard) and press the B key. Power is as follows using the power key’s light: four flashes 80%-100%, 3 flashes 60%-79%, two flashes 35%-59% and lastly on flash under 35%.... this provides the outline for knowing when to recharge the keyboard. The top options on the keyboard are for home screen, changing sleep modes, activating Siri, keyboard accessibility on the iPad, and music controls. Another cool feature of the keyboard is the 7 colors you can set along with the 3 intensities of brightness. Press the function key and the arrow key pointing down to adjust the level of brightness. If you want to go through all the colors for the keyboard, press the function key and the right arrow key. Everything happens in an instant. You will see the colors right away.
Designed to make access to your iPad easier (strongly familiar feel like a laptop) and protect it from harm, the UAG Metropolis Apple iPad Tablet and Keyboard Folio is a quality choice. The strong magnets locking the “Keyboard case” with the “iPad case”, the cool function keys, 7 color lighting options are great features to use. Battery power can last for up to half a year on the keyboard (depending on use, I will charge mine sooner). There are also 4 settings of the stand and the total “heavy weight” protection from drops. The UAG Keyboard Folio case is a great example of form following function. UAG Keyboard Folio a logical choice for anyone who wants to enjoy and be more productive with their iPad.

I was impressed by the obvious quality of this keyboard and case for the 10.2” iPads. It feels almost like a first party product in every way. The case itself fits perfectly, all the ports and buttons work exactly as they should, it has an apple pencil holder, and it is lightweight and nice to the touch. It does not interfere with my tempered glass screen protector either with more than enough room on all sides to stay clear of it. The keyboard is a separate piece which allows itself to attach to the case magnetically, and doubles as a protective cover for the entire device when closed. You can use it as a stand and treat your iPad as a laptop with the touchpad. iPad OS now supports touchpad inputs and the Bluetooth connection for typing is lag free. You turn on the keyboard with a button in the top right corner, and it has functions for backlit keys that can change through a range of colors and brightness. The keys feel good, and have nice sound and stroke quality to them, very similar to many laptops I have used over the years. The touchpad clicks as well, although it only responds properly to click inputs in the center not from the sides.
Being Bluetooth connected it has its own battery that charges with a USB-C port on the same side as the lightning port on the iPad itself for convenience. Battery life is substantially longer than that of my iPad itself, and that’s all I can ask for. I appreciate that the keyboard and case are separate pieces so I can easily remove the case and use my iPad with a lightweight case on rather than always carrying around the entire setup. This is especially good since the biggest drawback for this device is that the keyboard is very heavy, weighing more than my iPad even with the case installed. So, all together it makes the iPad feel somewhat unwieldy. However, when I need the keyboard, it is easily reattached, and when I don’t, I still have a nicely designed and well fitted case on my iPad. It’s a great solution that I recommend.

UAG touts this case as being “rugged” and they aren’t lying. This case has plenty of heft, rigidity and protection for your iPad, and while it does add some bulk overall, it’s not so much that it takes away from the experience of using the iPad.
I’m using an iPad 9th generation with this case. I love that the case actually comes in two pieces. You get the molded snap on piece for the iPad itself that fits like any traditional case, covering the back and sides, with ample cutouts for all the ports, cameras, buttons and microphones. The molded case is very nice and will offer plenty of protection. One disappointment I have about this piece however, is that it doesn’t fit 100% flush on the top and bottom edges. The back and sides are completely snug and covered, but the top and bottom edges of the case do not actually lip over the screen like the sides do. Overall the case fits snug, so no risk of the iPad coming out of the case at all, but from a fit and finish perspective, this is a miss and can be distracting every time you look at the iPad and notice the case isn’t covering the top and bottom like it covers the sides. I also love that it includes a place to hold the Apple Pencil. Other cases like this that offer a place for the Apple Pencil have it attached to the keyboard part of the case, where with this UAG version, if you don’t want to use the keyboard, but still want to bring your Apple Pencil with you, you’re covered.
With the molded case attached, you can set the iPad inside the keyboard folio and it attaches with some very strong magnets. No rails or clips, all magnets. I was concerned with how well this would hold when carrying the iPad around, but the magnets are plenty strong and there is no risk that your iPad is going anywhere when fully closed. The keyboard folio is very rugged and rigid, which I personally like. Some keyboard folios can feel flimsy and become a hassle to use, but this UAG version basically turns your iPad into a laptop. The keyboard is very nice, while small, it doesn’t feel cramped or tiny. The keys have very nice travel and responsiveness to them. All the keys are backlit as well and you can customize the colors. The wrist cushion is very firm but also very padded. The trackpad is very nice as well. Not laptop quality, the clicks are solid but also sort of “soft” and the responsiveness can vary depending on where on the trackpad you press, but overall it’s great to use. It also supports multi finger gestures so similar to the iPad screen, you can perform all the same gestures on the trackpad.
The keyboard charges via USB-C and they claim can get up to 6 mos of battery depending on your usage. You connect via Bluetooth and the paring for me was instant, and it also gives you the ability to pair to two devices at once, and is selectable via dedicated Bluetooth 1 or 2 keys on the keyboard itself. It also has a dedicated row of function keys at the top which is great. Just remember to power the keyboard down before closing the case. While the case can sleep/wake your iPad, when closed the case doesn’t automatically turn off, it will remains powered on unless you manually power the keyboard down first.
Very happy with this case and its versatility and protection.

This UAG Metropolis Apple iPad Tablet Keyboard Folio is for 10.2” 8th of 9th Gen iPads. It says it’s designed to be rugged, but provide you with that laptop experience when needed. With that being said, I put this to the test for both function and design.
Overall, this lives up to its maker’s name of Urban Armor Gear. The armor is definitely there in look, feel, and weight. The exterior is smooth despite being labeled as rugged, but you can feel the protection in the rubberized antimicrobial outer layer. UAG claims this will protect the iPad and keyboard from an 8ft fall. While I didn’t feel brave enough to test that distance, I did do some smaller ones from about 3-4’. I can say this thing definitely holds its own and I’d be just fine with the kids handling it in almost every scenario.
A part of that exterior plays into the function of this folio. That’s the bendable cover/stand and the embedded magnets. The combination of these elements allow your iPad to convert to that complete laptop look and feel. I did try the keyboard without the included case and it couldn’t stand at all without assistance. However, adding that case on there was like a magic trick because everything just clicks together and POOF. Disassembling things and folding it back up is even easier and you can tell that the keyboard and iPad are safe and snug in there.
The keyboard itself is pretty slick. It is spill resistant as well as backlit. It attaches to your iPad via bluetooth and you can connect upto 2 at once. The charging is done through a USB-C cable that’s provided and one full charge can apparently last up to 6 months depending on how you use it. To go along with that, there are 7 color options as well as 3 brightness levels and all of those can help depending on the environment you are using it in. I think this is a wonderful feature for something that’s an add-on to your iPad. I thought the keystrokes were smooth and quiet while the response was really good on everything I tried to do. The trackpad is a nice size as well. Much like the keys, I didn’t have any issues getting it to do what I wanted.
All in all, the UAG Metropolis Folio would make a great addition for those that want a little more out of their iPads. It provides a great attachment that legitimately makes it a nice alternative to bringing a laptop on the go. It also excels in protecting the iPad and that’s a great investment when on the go with work or with the family.

The UAG securely surrounds the iPad perimeter with a special protective bumper design. I especially like the clear see through back of the folio. Most other cases cover the colorful iPad body which I took great pains in choosing nd special ordering.
All the right openings and buttons were accounted for. The top volume and side power on/off switches perform flawlessly. The camera and microphone, power port and speakers great also.
Pairing the keyboard via Bluetooth is simple too. The keyboard can also pair with a second device like you iPhone if needed. Just long press the on/off keyboard button and the NUMBER 2, to pair the second device.
UAG did a great job with the track pad. Functions like the iPad surface. The keyboard is much easier to use than the on screen keyboard. Natural spacing, a tad smaller than a full sized keyboard , but that's due to the iPad's size. Key actuation and feedback is good too. Rechargeable via the C' port on the side. You can check its charge state, which flashes the power on led 4 times for full, 3x for 75%, 2x for 50% and 1x for low.
To use the iPad like a laptop, the folio uses magnets and a rolls into a triangle backstop. A tad flimsy but works nicely on a table. There is a place to secure the PEN/PENCIL. A loop with a magnet hold the folio in the closed condition during transport. Feels nice to the touch. Provides the protection your expensive device deserves.

Superb iPad keyboard/case combo, but HEAVY!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The UAG keyboard/case combo is are really nice, multi-function case, with a modern, rugged look to it. It features an adjustable magnetic stand, a detachable base, the keyboard is backlit, it has a full size trackpad and is made from anti-microbial materials.
You knew that, because it says it all on the box. But what does that mean to you. Well, the magnetic case doesn't roll traditionally, so you have to get work that out, or the stand keeps sliding flat. You roll the case up like you would normally do, but then you have to flip it backwards into an upright position for the magnet to really grab. Once that was figured out, it made a world of difference. I was just rolling it on itself and it would keep slipping out from under it.
The keyboard is backlit, it isn't crazy bright, but it is full featured! Press the 'fn' key and then the down arrow and you can change the brightness from off, low, mid to high brightness. Press the 'fn' key and the right arrow key and you can change through the backlit colors, 7 of them total. That is quite a nice feature right there, and somewhat unexpected.
The trackpad is responsive, and intuitive, just like you'd find on a laptop. Made web browsing so easy, in a traditional sense, if you've added this keyboard, you want a more traditional feel to your iPad.
The reason I gave 4/5 stars is because this case it HEAVY. The detachable magnetic base means that you can quickly remove your iPad from the keyboard, which is great, and you'll want to do that so you don't have to lug the whole keyboard/case around with you, but then you leave the face of your iPad exposed, without protection. The rest of the iPad is protected by the case, which has been tested to withstand an 8ft drop! But with the keyboard attached, it is somewhat cumbersome. There is a magnetic latch that keeps the case closed when not using it, which is also a nice feature.
There are dedicated media buttons, which is pretty much the norm, but it also has 2 Bluetooth buttons so you can pair more than one iPad to the keyboard, which is really handy. The spill resistant case has an anti-microbial coating, so you know that it won't be germ-ridden, and that also allows you to be able to wipe it down without fear of it shorting out, or getting damaged.
Overall, this is a fantastic keyboard/case combo, very rugged, full-featured, durable, aesthetically pleasing, but I just wish it wasn't so heavy. It really would be my goto case if it wasn't so heavy. Love the functionality of it, and the ease of use.

Let me say this first: UAG would get more attention to this keyboard folio if they also states that their keyboard can work fine with any other device. Other than Ipad! I mean I understand it is deigned for IPAD but also would work fine with any smart device (iOS, Android, Windows, ...)
The keys feeling is great. The track pad is very responsive. The folio case is very sturdy and well made. I believe it can provide max safety to the device that would be in. It comes with IPAD 10.2 case. It is fully detachable from the folio and be used separately providing protection for your Ipad.
Battery life is ok so far. Holding fine for the time I am using it. It can be paired to 2 device that you can easily select and switch between.
I paired it to my Mac Mini and my Android tablet and also my Ipad. It works just fine with a decent BT range. Easy to work with and with the back-light keys, it can be used at night.
I'd recommend this product not only to be used with what was designed for. UAG did great job making this keyboard folio. It is indeed a good addition to your touchscreen electronics.

This case is super rugged and heavy duty. I feel that it can take quite the impact and still be good. It also has a convenient fold out keyboard with mouse trackpad or touchpad. It is very intuitive to use and has a nice texture to it that is nice to hold.
The iPad snapped right into the protective case upon first use. It fits perfect and feels very secure. I also purchased a 3rd party glass screen protector and it does not interfere with this case in any way. They actually look like they were meant to be used with each other. The magnetic closure flap closes very tight and keeps the folio in place. When you fold the cover backwards to hold the iPad in place, the magnet holds very tight and secure as sell. The iPad can actually remove from the keyboard so you can carry it by itself. Then it acts just like a normal protective case, which feels very rugged as well.
When you fold it to use with the keyboard, I suggest using it on a flat surface since it is back heavy. It will not stay up on it's own. If you try to rest it and type on your legs or knees, it will fall backwards. The product photos show someone using it this way, but it is not possible. The keyboard feels very nice to the touch and it is very responsive and it is very nice to use. The touchpad is also very responsive, just like on a laptop. When you first start using the touchpad, a small circle appears to indicate you have activated it, and disappears when you stop using it, which is a nice feature. The only bad thing is that when the cursor gets to an edge, it behaves like when you swipe at an edge, and will bring up menus.
Another downfall is that when you fold the iPad backwards while the keyboard is attached, you can accidentally press the keyboard power button and can inadvertently press keys. It can also press keys when in a bag or backpack. They keyboard also has convenient buttons that will launch menus and bring up the home screen. You can also lock the iPad via a keyboard button.
Overall, I think this is a very nice, sturdy case with keyboard combo. It will easily protect your iPad with some usability via the keyboard and touchpad. It does fall short in a few ways, but I think you will definitely like this folio.

I love this case!!!
It is quality all the way though. I have owned several UAG products and they have all exceeded my expectations. This Case is no different!
It claims to be drop rated to 8 feet! I don’t plan to test that feature but it givers me peace of mind to know that. I’m only 6’ tall so a lesser drop should be fine! But it is such a stable and firm seat in the hand a drop is unlikely! It also does not slide around my desk/table when I am using it. I read my iPad in the morning like a newspaper and so a stable platform is a must. This delivers!
I also like how easy I can just pop the iPad out of the bigger keyboard case/stand and it becomes it’s own stand-a-lone case. It converts back and forth through the strong and secure magnets that keep everything in it’s place when you want it to!
I also really love they did not ignore the apple pencil. Quite the opposite. The pencil holder is perfectly placed and out of the way but right there when you want it! LOVE that.
Then there’s the awesome blue tooth keyboard with the track pad. Super easy to set up quick charge and it hold its charge for 6 months (we’ll see) but even if it’s half that… I mean seriously…that’s amazing!
Spill proof for the coffee drip, and back lite keyboard. I also like the media buttons on it. It really makes my iPad feel like a tough mac laptop but I want to really highlight just how easy it converts back into a super safe and comfortable tablet to. It really is the best of both worlds. The Touch pad is also amazing. Very responsive and no latency.
I love this case. You cant go wrong with this one! It really is the best of both worlds… a fully functional laptop conversion with the one touch pull away stand alone iPad case. It goes from laptop to iPad in a second and brings along the apple pencil to boot! Bravo!

The Best keyboard / trackpad case for 10.2 iPads

This is one well thought out product. I like everything about it but the weight. It’s a 2 piece design with a separate piece that you put the iPad in. That piece is held tightly in place with magnets in the case. That makes it easy to remove the iPad for use as a tablet or in the case as a laptop complete with a trackpad. The illuminated keys are a nice touch and a choice of 7 colors is outstanding!
Tested on my 9th Generation iPad.
Propping the iPad up is pretty simple and will hold tight if you do it right. If not, it will it can slide down. I like that you can vary the prop angle. See photos. The feel of the keys is very nice. Quite a bit of travel for keys that are in a tablet case. Except the space bar. Its travel is about half of that of the keys and it lacks the tactile feel of the rest of the keys. I don’t think it’s a problem but it’s noticeable. Not sure if it might just be my device as no other reviewers have mentioned it.
The keyboard is backlit with very little light bleed around the keys, but enough that it looks cool. There are 4 levels of key illumination and a choice of 7 colors. See photos. The letters on the keys are large and very easy to see, illuminated or not. I wrote this review on my iPad with the Metropolis. If the keyboard illumination times out it will turn back on as soon as you start using them again. However, I did notice that if the screen timed out on my iPad that the keyboard would already be timed out and not illuminated, as expected. However, when I logged back into my iPad the keyboard didn’t illuminate when I started typing. I had to do that manually. Just something to note.
It looks good, feels good and built to be rugged, but still quite a bit heavier than I expected. I like the exterior feel of the case, but it feels a little slick and could be hard to hold in some situations even though it has deep grooves. I think the weight adds to the issue. The inside has a bit of a soft flocked feel and not slick. It feels like a type of vinyl and cleaning shouldn’t be a problem. The inner case that holds the iPad has the same flock feel, but a harder plastic feel. It’s rounded and very comfortable and easy to hold. It feels solid and the iPad is easy to insert and remove from it. It also has what I call button extensions as opposed to a cut out area for you to press the power and volume buttons. I noticed that the power button takes a little more force to press the button than the volume buttons do, and I think that’s a good thing. No accidentally turning your iPad off too easily.
Pencil - stylus storage holds tight but still easy to insert and remove. See Photos.
Connecting via Bluetooth was simple and you can pair it to 2 devices and easily switch between them. Like another reviewer mentioned, you can use the keyboard with an Android or Windows device. I tried it out with both and it worked perfectly! I love versatility in a product.
The trackpad feels good and works well, but was laggy at times when highlighting text on my iPad. When using it on a Windows PC it wasn’t.
Charging is USB-C on the right front side. Holding fn and B for 3 seconds will flash the power key to indicate the battery level. It was over ¾ of a charge out of the box and still is after quite a bit of use. There’s an indicator on the cap lock key too.
Compared to a basic ZAGG keyboard case I have, this one is much better in build quality and features. Feel of the keys are about the same with the UAG edging it out and being less tightly spaced. The UAG is more expensive and much better with the illuminated keyboard and trackpad the ZAGG lacks.
Build quality is very solid.
Conclusion: Highly recommended if you need to turn an iPad into a laptop. Plus it’s rugged and you can quickly remove and use your iPad solo on the fly. I doubt you can find a better keyboard case with a trackpad for a basic 10.2 iPad. I just wish it were a little lighter.
I would recommend this to a friend

This is the third keyboard case I've acquired for my 10.2" iPad since Apple officially added track pad support. I first tried the Logitech Combo Touch, then the Brydge Max+ and now the UAG. I moved quickly from the Logitech to the Brydge, as it had a better backlighting, a better keyboard, offered better screen positioning. I'd say they both offered about the same protection of the tablet, although the Logitech was an once or so lighter. All keyboard/case combinations I've tried weight more than the iPad tablet does, but all will protect from a 4+ foot fall, something the iPad won't do on it's own. As a content creator, I need a decent keyboard if the iPad is going to be used to create content. On screen typing might be fine when responding to a text or email, but not for writing a multi-page document.
All three cases protect the iPad by enclosing it a "bumpered" surround. The Logitech surround is the heaviest, being all rubber, the Brydge is the lightest providing the least drop protection, and the UAG it a tad larger with better corner protection and a little more lip protection. The UAGs is the easiest to separate the iPad from the keyboard, and it supports BT 5.2 (which pairs slightly faster than BT 5.1). Both the Brydge and the UAGs keyboards offer about 6 months life on a singe charge, which is somewhat longer than the Logitech. The back lighting on the Brydge and the UAG are both brighter than the Logitech, however the UAG supports supports 7 different colors of backlighting, while the Bydge is only white. However the UAGs keyboard can connect and switch between to 2 different devices. I tried this with my iPhone and IPad at the same time and found it to be a pretty nice experience, better than I'd expected. A feature I didn't think much about until I tried it. It's very easy to switch back an forth.
The keyboards on the UAG and the Brydge are both excellent, far better than the Logitech, better key travel, a better feel. The Brydge and the UAG have exactly the same size trackpad, both work very well, the Brydges trackpad is somewhat indented, the UAGs is more smooth, but still some texture difference. The clicking motion of the UAG requires less effort, I prefer it. The bottom left hand key on the Brydge is the "Siri" microphone, this is a Fn key on the UAG. I don't know how many times I've accidentally hit this button on the Brydge, a clear win for the UAG. The Brydge has 2 "iPad" grippers to hold the iPad in place at the bottom and to allow you to adjust the screen, but it's harder to remove if you want to use the iPad alone. The infinite angles of the Brydge is an advantage over the UAG and easier to use on an airplane. But for pure flexibility the UAG may have an advantage, I'll call it a toss-up. In actual keyboard use the UAG keys are smoother and maybe a little larger (less separation between the keys). This will probably be a personal preference issue, again a toss-up. The Brydge and UAG both have a MIL STD 810G 516.6 drop rating, the Bridge claims it will survive a 4' drop, while UAG claims it will survive a 8' drop. There is no doubt the UAG has better surround protection, and it had a magnetic lock to keep it closed. But the UAGs weight is about 8oz greater (22.5oz vs 30.4oz (iPad 17.1oz)). The UAG case is easier to grasp, with some ridges, the Brydge is hard and smooth. Both the Brydge and the UAG have anti-microbial materials, ans spill proof keyboards. For comparison a MacBook Air weights 56.4oz which is more than the UAG+iPad weighs at 47.5oz.
The dual connectivity I can see being an nice advantage, having lugged the Brydge around for almost a year, I can't say it's weight has bothered me, given the flexibility it brought to the party. I feel safer with the UAG, except for use on the tiny tray of a airplane, I'd say I prefer the UAG. The quick disconnect of the UAG is another advantage, considering how I use my iPad. I'd say the UAG has a real winner considering its somewhat less expensive.
