    Ulike 3 Air Hair Removal

The Ulike Air 3 promised a painless hair removal system that you can see results in just a few weeks. After using the Ulike-Air 3 Ice Cooling Hair Removal device for a few weeks, here are my thoughts on the pros and cons of this device. Right out of the box, the first thing I noticed is that the Quickstart Guide didn't really tell me how often or how many times I should go over areas. The directions tell you how to use the product and get it started - but it didn't say do one pulse of light over each area or go over it three times. I was able to YouTube some videos and get better directions for each area of the body. It comes with protective glasses, a razor (because you need to be hair free before using the device), and a bag to store it all. The Air 3 definitly is a painfree experience. The cooling technology makes a difference, especially on sensitive areas. One of the best things that the Ulike promises is long-term results. I have been using it consistently for a few weeks and I have already noticed a reduction in the hair growth under my arms and other areas. I look forward to continued use and less and less shaving. There are a few different modes (gentle, regular, power) and the larger light window makes it easier for larger areas like legs. The auto-glide mode lets you turn on the light and work large areas without having to hold the button down. One thing to know is that IPL laser hair removal is not for everyone. It does not work on all skintones and all hair colors. It may not work on red, white or gray hairs and darker skin tones.

The Ulike Air 3 Ice Cooling IPL Hair Removal Device is a conundrum to me because it’s not exactly a hair removal tool as it doesn’t “remove” hair. As a matter of fact, Ulike provides a small shaver to shave off the hair in your treatment area prior to use. What it does, is reduce the hair density of the treated areas as it grows back. So as you use this device, you should have less and less hair in your areas of treatment. They claim you could have up to a 93% reduction within 4 weeks if you use it as suggested. This tool is corded but still it's rather lightweight and easy to hold, although, I would have appreciated a curved device to make it more ergonomic. It is easy to use. Simply plug it in, put on the protective “sun“ glasses to protect your eyes from the blasts of light and decide how you are going to use it. There are 3 intensity settings - soft, body and power modes. Power mode is the most intense and Ulike claims you will get the fastest results with this mode. You can also use this in "spot" method for individual blasts of light on your upper lip, for instance. I used the "glide" method, because I have used this only on my legs. Actually, I only used this on one leg so I could compare and see if it really worked. More on that later. I used the power mode with the glide method and I can say it was easy to use. As I glided the device up and down my legs, it emitted blasts of light at specific intervals which could be called "zaps." The light blasts or zaps take a moment to get used to, but they didn't hurt me at all. And there is an awesome cooling function - cool air actually blows out as you use the tool and that cooling sensation is a really nice feeling on my skin. I know sometimes there is a fear of devices such as this causing pain - but for me, there was no pain at all. It is important to note that this will not work on all skin tones and hair colors. I do have very light skin with darker hair which is good with this. However, this is all about melanin. If you have very light hair, there is probably not enough melanin, so it may not work because it possibly won't absorb enough light. If you have a darker skin tone, there may be too much melanin which may cause burning due to too much light absorption. And they do include this legal disclaimer: "Not suitable for tattooed and over-tanned skin, wounded areas, and pregnant". Okay - so I have used this device for a couple of weeks now, about 3 times per week on only one leg - this was my test. I wanted to know if this really works. Well, it DOES WORK! I feel the treated leg is smoother and the hair is indeed taking longer to grow back. The hairs on the other leg were shaved at the same days/times and I have noticed that it is taking longer for the hair on my leg to regrow. It was indeed a successful test. Overall, I would very much recommend this Ulike Air 3 Ice Cooling IPL Hair Removal Device. I would prefer a cordless model and I would prefer a more ergonomic shaped tool. But this is what it is now, and it does indeed work as it states it will, at least in my short testing period. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a "hair removal" device, with the above caveats.

Pain free hair removal at home

I've tried it all, shaving, expensive salon waxing, epilator, and in-clinic laser hair removal, it all takes time, effort, and money so I was excited to try out the Ulike IPL hair removal device in the quiet of my own home. In the box is a travel razor and case, IPL rated safety glasses, and IPL hair removal device with power cord. Setup is easy as it's plug and play, with the cord spanning a total of just over 8' from the outlet. So while I'm not big on reading the instructions guides, I recommend you do for the best experience. First the instructions advise to shave the area and make sure it is free of any lotion or oils. The instructions also offer guides on what skin tones and hair tones are good candidates for success with IPL.  Note that this is not for white / gray hair nor is it for any dark skin tones, see photo for chart.  To use the device there are three power levels, which can be selected through a one, two, or three button press of the power button on the side of the device. You can then choose between one flash spot treatment and continuous mode by holding the button on the top of the device. There are light indicators to know what strength and mode you are in. I find that the sensitive mode doesn't really have any feeling at all, painful or otherwise, just a flash of light.  For normal mode this is appropriate for anywhere that isn't sensitive, again, I do not feel anything either pain or tingling when used on the underside of my forearm.  The last mode is power mode, used for quickest results.  I have tested all three modes on the inside of my forearm, with no sensation at all.  My teen said that he feels a slight tingle on the power mode, but nothing else, and my husband said he feels a slight sensation on the back of his neck when in power mode.  I'm sharing all this to say, this isn't a painful tool, and it doesn't compare to the zap of the clinic hair removal lasers.   In the quick start guide is guidance on how to use the hair removal device, prep instructors, and a guide for what combinations of skin color and hair color will work and what mode is recommended.  For initial testing I recruited my husband, as he is always complaining about having to shave his neck in between haircuts. He is blonde with light skin and dark neck hair, so I figured he would be the perfect test subject. He has also never experienced laser treatment so I figured he could give unbiased feedback on any discomfort. To start off I shaved his neck with an electric shaver, so close but not down to the skin.  I then put on the very stylish IPL protection glasses, note you will want to have eye protection to use this laser. I then ramped up the settings from low to high to ensure it wouldn't be painful.  He had no complaints about pain or tingling, so I put the device in power mode and was able to quickly do the back of his neck in under five minutes.  For the past 10 days I have treated his neck every 2 - 3 days as the instructions advise and will keep this up for the next few weeks.  At the 10 day mark his neck feels smoother, as his hair is less coarse than normal. I do have faith the Ulike IPL device works, but note that this isn't a one and done tool.  To maintain not having hair growth you need to use the device every few days for four weeks, at which point you can take down the frequency to once every two weeks, pending hair growth.  Key things to note:  I love that the laser window feels cold to the skin, and really doesn't get noticeably hot.  I can touch the laser window after non-stop use for 5 minutes, and it feels cold to the touch.  The laser only works if it senses contact with skin, so no inadvertently blinding yourself while holding, its also a safety factor, as I couldn't get the laser to work when pointed at my clothes. The fan is a bit loud, but that's what keeps it cool, so no complaints on that one. The laser is bright, and it flashes out the side opposite of the power button as well as the window pointed at the skin.  This is the reason for the IPL protective glasses.  If you are working around someone else, they will need eye protection as well.   Ultimately its fairly user friendly; intuitive how to work the controls, no accidental laser trigger or burning.  Overall if you're interested in hair removal, and have the correct skin and hair tones for success, this is a solid tool to pick up. It costs less than one session at a laser hair removal clinic, it's nowhere near as painful as waxing, and with consistent use it eventually takes less time than shaving.

I have to admit, I was a little frightened to use DIY IPL. Even though it’s FDA approved, it’s still a procedure. People I know who tried it before told me it hurt, so I was apprehensive. BUT I was also at my wits end with unwanted chin hair and so tired of plucking. I even tried shaving, but it’s so temporary. The promise of pain free longer term hair removal was too much to resist. The cold therapy approach employed by Ulike does make the process relatively pain-free, but it does sting just a tad. READ THE DIRECTIONS. There’s a quick start guide that tells you what you need to know—number one is shave BEFORE you use the unit. Having never done IPL before, I wasn’t aware of that. I’m a stickler for instructions and was glad I took the time with these. The unit itself does have settings and instructions for different types of removal. For example a few chin hairs is a different process from a whole leg. I appreciate the specificity from Ulike. The packaging is high quality and all the components are laid out nicely. There’s also a little carry satchel to put everything in. The safety glasses fold away and easily fit in the sack with the charging cable and adapter and the unit itself. The main takeaway here is to read the instructions and have a plan prior to first use. Time will tell if long term results are reasonable, but this process is already better and less painful than plucking and shaving.

So this was my second time trying out one of these expensive, at-home hair removal devices. I am not even a month in so the long term effectiveness is yet to be determined. Also, not sure if it is a placebo effect or not, but the hair SEEMS to be growing slightly slower on my target areas (legs, under arms and face). The ice cooling is definitely what made the Ulike different than the first one I tried a few years back. The other one seemed to be effective, but it hurt, especially as I treated areas on my body more sensitive. I still felt the sting with the Ulike, don't get me wrong, but the ice cooling is quick to take care of that (though you still feel a bit of it). Also, not sure if anyone else has this, but even with the sunglasses, the light flashes sort of get me dizzy and briefly low on energy. Try not to look directly at the device while using. Lastly, it has a few different settings for strength, and one called "body" which is when it stays in a constant flashing mode so you don't need to press the button repeatedly. The whole process takes about 10-15 minutes depending on how much of your body you're treating. All in all, this may slow my hair growth in these areas, but I don't have a lot of confidence in permanent hair removal. This is yet to be seen. If you can afford the price point, maybe it is a good option in lieu of a multi-thousand dollar laser treatment.

Unboxing - Nice packaging. The kit also came with a bag to neatly store all items for the process. It came with quick set up instructions and the manual. The only comments I have between the quick set up and instructions manual is that they should be consistent with what they call the settings in the quick guide with the manual. It’s not a deal breaker however when you are trying to identify all the controls on the unit it’s a little confusing. It would have been great to see words next to the buttons for easier identification but it may have been omitted because they wanted to maintain the sleek design. The unit I received to try out was purple a nice soothing color. The kit came with everything you need including the eyewear needed to protect your eyes during the treatment. After reading the quick start and manual I was ready to try it out. The really cool feature on this unit is the sapphire cooling glass that comes in direct contact with your skin. It’s very cool to the touch and remains cool throughout the process. Initially when I did my first treatment the first pile startled me because I wasn’t sure what to expect when I performed my test sections. I set the unit up according to the skin color chart in the manual. Which I had to set on regular mode. All the indicator lights were visible and easy to read that the unit was set with the correct settings. I placed my glasses on, made sure the light sapphire glass was in direct contact with my skin and made sure the indicator light for placement was lit. I pulsed and a red light was emitted and then I went onto the next section of my arm. After performing three test spots I had to wait two hours to make sure that there was no burning or adverse reactions. Two hours later I was ready to do my entire arm. I set it to continuous mode so I can easily glide through without having to constantly press the button. I didn’t feel any burning sensations or shocks that you would normally feel if this was done at the dermatologists office. A few years back I had laser hair removal done on my side burns and underarms. And during the treatments I would feel small pricks which I assume was the laser burning my hair follicles. It didn’t hurt it was just a light prick that you get used to during the treatment. So when I tried this unit I was pleasantly surprised with the cooling element and the intensity settings to control that prick. After my treatment there was no burning and I repeated the process on my arms two more times as instructed. Process must be repeated three times a week for four weeks and afterwards once a month. To early to tell but so far so good. I didn’t have to shave after the first week which I normally shaved two to three times a week. Overall, I’m impressed with the ability to perform hair removal at the comfort of my home. This is a great unit, easy to set up and use. I highly recommend giving it a try. It’s very important that you read and follow the instructions in order to get the results you want and to prevent any mistakes to your skin.

Before I ordered the Ulike - Air 3 Ice Cooling IPL Dry Hair Removal Device, I didn't do my normal due diligence in researching the product. This is especially bad, since I have no prior experience with any type of hair removal devices other than shavers and tweezers. When the Air 3 arrived, I sat down and thoroughly read through the provided Ulike IPL Hair Removal Device Quick Start Guide and User Manual. What I first read made me wonder if it would even work for me and as I read further, I wondered why I had even ordered the device, since it is so potentially dangerous, especially if one does not take the time to read up on the device thoroughly. What I am talking about is in both the Quick Start Guide and the User Manual's "How to Use" section. The manual starts with a discussion on what is an acceptable skin type and hair color for the device's suitability. The Quick Start Guide places that info in the back. Both present a chart showing that the device is ineffective and should not be used on white/grey hairs, red hairs, nor on light blonde hairs; in addition, you should not use the device if your skin tone is dark brown or brown black or darker. Since the Ulike - Air 3 Ice Cooling IPL Dry Hair Removal Device uses Intense Pulsed Light of broad spectrum polychromatic light that targets the melanin (colored cells) in the hair follicles, if your hair is too light, then it has nothing to target and if your skin is too dark, then you will end up burning your skin cells. I don't think that this information should be taken lightly. As you read on in the Quick Start Guide, under Warnings, there is a long list of ifs for "Do Not Use the Device". This includes such things as: "if you are on your period"; "if you have photosensitive epilepsy or photosensitivity"; "if you have been burned from sun overexposure"; "if you have been naturally or artificially deep-tanned to deep dark skin"; "if you have skin diseases such as allergic dermatitis, eczema, etc. or "if you have a known skin disorder". It also tells you not to use the device on the scalp, eyebrows, or near / around the eyes (since it can permanently damage your eyes) or over blisters, scars, moles, tattoos and dark brown or black spots; or on damaged skin, scabs, healing wounds, cancer, or hemangioma. Some of these warnings are just plain common sense. But there are enough warnings on things that I could see someone who is not informed ending up with real problems and no recourse for action, because they were explicitly warned. I see that there are many people out there that claim the Ulike - Air 3 Ice Cooling IPL Dry Hair Removal Device is safe and effective. And it may just be so. Even if I were not incredibly light haired and had read all the documentation beforehand, I still would not have had the proper amount of time to truly evaluate this product for its effectivity, so I have taken the time to tell you what I have learned of potential issues. I just want to encourage all lookers and buyers to do your due dilligence in researching this product well; and, if you purchase it, then please follow all the directions and take all the safety precautions to keep yourself safe. Do your homework.

I wouldn't say I'm an old pro at the At-Home IPL game but I'm not new to it thanks to using a different brand prior to now so I was pretty comfortable with giving the Ulike Air 3 Ice Cooling IPL Dry Hair Removal device. This device caught my attention because of the Cooling feature as well as the difference in use. I was also curious if this one would be more successful for me in a few areas where hair growth had indeed slowed but hasn't reached the point where treatment could really be considered complete. The brand I am used to using as well as others I had researched in the past seemed to all follow a once a week use schedule so I was surprised to see that Ulike allows for use every few days. I think if I was starting from scratch like I did with the other brand I would have definitely appreciated that schedule more since I think it's natural in the beginning for users to want to do sessions more quickly. It is definitely too early to say if the ability to use it more often truly makes lasting results come quicker but so far it seems to be working well. As a person of color my main concern was if this device would work on my skin despite my skin color being considered light as far as the spectrum goes for most people of color. This is often a problem for people of color and the description stating that it is not meant for skin that is "overly tanned" made me think this may be a miss as it seemed to be considering only those who may tan their skin versus the natural tone of persons of color. Upon using this I can say that while it does register on my skin it does struggle far more than I would like and makes it clear that if my skin gets even slightly tanned during the summer I would be unable to use it. For this alone I would warn any person of color to keep this in mind, especially if they are my color or darker. Because I mentioned that this isn't my first time using an at-home IPL device I don't think my experience of "pain" would be helpful to true newbies as I have become used to the zaps but I will say that in general those zaps don't hurt in the way you may imagine. If you have tried waxing before I would say that the zaps are far more tolerable. The cooling feature is a nice touch that may be helpful for those that feel the discomfort from the quick zaps and heat. Overall, I think this is a great option to try although like I mentioned if you are a person of color or if you are someone that tans to a deeper color this might not work well. In this regard I will say that the other brand that I use edges this one out.

The ULIKE Air 3 IPL Hair Removal Device is an intriguing device. I wanted to give this device a try since I’ve seen a lot of people talk about ULIKE’s hair removal devices. I wanted to try out ULIKE’s device since it incorporates a built-in cooling system. I researched Intense pulse light therapy, and it was predominately done by a physician in the past. Since ULIKE created this do-it-yourself device and it’s back with FDA clearance, I thought why not? I started out wanting to test removing the hair on my forearms to see if this device lives up to some of the hype I heard about it. Using this device requires some time to really see the results, but I wanted to see if I would see some results in a week’s time. According to the manual, I will need to use the device consistently, and for a much longer time period for the desired results. I started out with a patch test before moving over to my forearms just to see if there was any pain involved. I used the middle light energy setting to see if I would experience any issues. My skin had no adverse reactions and I was confident continuing my test on my forearms. I made sure to shave before starting the patch test area and my on to my forearms. I found this step to be a vital step in my long-term goal of hair removal. On my first go, after I shaved my forearm, I used the device too quickly without allowing my skin to dry. I also made sure to wear the protective glasses that were included to shield my eyes from the bright light that is omitted from the device. The instructions recommended 2 to 3 times a week for 10 mins and after about a month, and I should begin to see results. As time continues, it’s recommended to use the device less over time if you use it consistently. I’m currently in my second week and I already notice the hair on my forearm is growing back a little slower than normal. It’s too early in my testing phase to see the true results of the device by I will continue to document my progress. Even though I have to continue to shave since this has only been the second week of my journey, I like the device overall. The ULIKE Air 3 device does come with some drawbacks however. I have to be extra cautious of too much sun exposure on areas I’m treating on my forearms. Skin tones and hair color really matter when using this device. Be sure to check the product manual and do research to make sure the device is right for you. You should not treat areas where tattoos are present. Pregnant or nursing mothers should avoid using this device as well. I also try to avoid using while my skin is irritated as well. I burned myself cooking recently, so I made sure not to use the device in that area until the burn is fully healed. My overall experience has been positive while using this device. Excited to see the long-term results and the potential cost savings from having this device.

My hair grows pretty fast, so I tried the ULIKE Air 3 Hair Removal Device in two places, my underarm and my face. Once I got past being startled by the flash and ‘zapping’ sound it makes when in full contact with the skin, the device was relatively easy to use and there was no pain felt at all. The cooling feature is very nice and soothing to the skin. But be sure to wear the included protective glasses as the light emitted is quite bright. I’ve only used the Air 3 IPL Hair Removal Device for about a week so it may be premature thinking that I’d see any real results yet. In fairness, the product manual does say that the device will need to be used regularly over an extended period for maximum effectiveness. Make sure you shave, clean, and thoroughly dry the area where you intend to use the device and that it fully contacts the skin. Keep in mind also, that it doesn’t pick up gray or white colored hairs. The programming to select intensity levels is quite odd, so I’d prefer that their settings have their own buttons separate from the power button, so I didn’t have to remember how many presses and in what order to cycle through them. It comes packaged nicely and even though it comes with a storage bag, the manual recommends that you store it in the box. This device is not wireless, so you need an electrical outlet to use it. And it should have come with some sort of protective cover to put over the lamp to help prevent damage to it.

First off, I’m not a girly girl. But there are areas that I don’t want hair. I’ve been shaving for over 30 years. Never have I tried waxing, I heard it’s painful. So I was excited to see and use this product. Pros: straight forward use. I watched 2 YouTube videos and felt very comfortable using this product. I followed the steps and I was done in 5 mins. Since I need to do this every few days for the first month, I put a reminder on my phone. Before I even start using it I make sure to have the protective shades on my head. Once plugged in a make sure the area I’m working on in shaved. Since I’m a newbie I only work on specific areas like my knees, ankles and under arms. I have used all 3 levels and I don’t feel uncomfortable on any of them. I do start with level one, go over a 2nd time on level 2 and sometimes a 3rd on level 3. The cooling sensation is very noticeable evident and very helpful. This kit has everything you need! I love it. Cons: the cooling sensation slowly goes away on the highest level on automatic mode. The system has to be plugged in to use. The storage bag feels cheap. Would have been nice to have a hard case for storage and travel. Other than that, this is a great intro into hair removal, coming from someone who’s never been to a professional for this service.

I am currently mid-way through week two of testing this and while I cannot speak to whether or not the hair removal is a super-permanent or semi-permanent solution, I can speak to how gentle it is on sensitive skin! I have medium brown hair with darker body hair and a fair complexion, so per the instructions, the color difference is right in line with their guidelines for use so I'm excited to see how it all ends up. I can say that I have started with my underarms as that is sensitive skin that I get very tired of shaving, but also if I don't shave regularly, I am a long distance runner, and the discomfort that arises is a real pain. I sincerely appreciate that the instructions ask you to shave the area first, this way you aren't having to wait a sometimes embarrassingly long time for the hair to grow to a specific length, only to then try to remove it. I've been using the light every other day, as instructed, and I have been continuing to run multiple times a week in the hot and humid south and I can say that after more than a week and a half, I've had no adverse reaction or discomfort. Everything that you can need is in the box and it's presented lovely! Then the instructions walk you through using the light therapy and it has not caused me an ounce of irritation or discomfort. I can feel a bit of a "tingle" in some areas of my underarms for about 10 min after using the light but the immediate cooling of the device is great and feels REALLY nice!

Having to get monthly waxes, or take the time to do weekly/daily shaves can be really time consuming and costly. I have also considered paying thousands of dollars for laser hair removal, but decided against it. Enter the Ulike Air 3 ice-cooling laser hair removal device. The convenience of high-end laser hair removal from the comfort of your own home. Out of the box which is packaged really well, you have everything that you need from instructions, a carrying bag, the tool, glasses, and even a razor to get you started. The device itself is sleek, and feels good in your hands. The instructions included could be better, and need to be proofread a bit, but you can manage enough. Read the instructions as thoroughly as you can, and make sure to wear your glasses. The light is very bright even with the UV glasses on. Also, make sure you closely follow the instructions to not touch your tattoos with the remover. With constant usage I can see this really making a difference, and the cooking sensation you feel isn’t overwhelming. I just made the complexion that is acceptable to use this device, so this is not the tool for people with darker complexions. Overall I have noticed a difference, and with consistent usage that Ulike recommends weekly I know I can save myself a lot of money, time, and commuting to appointments.

The product definitely is easy and nearly painless to use. I would have not appreciated the ice chill feature if I hadn’t tried another brand that didn’t have this feature and was painful and didn’t even come with protective glasses. I am new with the product therefore can’t attest to the hair growth diminishing- but it does seem to be a slow growth.

I was a little skeptical about this product at first. I read the reviews and it seemed that almost everyone was getting some type of results, some better than others. I bought it and i am so happy I did. Not painful at all. Trust me when I say this will work.

This does exactly as it states, it took but only a few weeks to show results while I have thick black hair and fair skin.

One of my best purchases. You wouldn’t feel anything during the laser session and the results will show after 4-5 weeks.
