The pause-play button on the side of the headphones only works once in a blue moon while the volume buttons work just fine. Quality of sound is really good though. Just disappointed I got a defective pair. Going to try exchanging it and seeing if I'll get a functioning pair.

These are good looking headphones and I love the CliqFold design. The V-Moda CrossFade Wireless 2 Codex Editions (CFWCE2) could be the best looking headphones available to date. From the hard case that has venting to keep them smelling fresh to the exceptional virtually indestructible build quality; you get your money's worth here. They're built to last and are MIL-STD-810G rated for durability. Better yet, they sound good, too! As the name suggests, this is the second generation of this series of headphones from V-Moda. The drivers are different and the company improved on the build quality. The originals were already one of my favorite headphones and the followup is even better. These headphones pack three wireless codecs for improved audio over the Bluetooth connection: Qualcomm aptX, AAC and SBC. I’m here to say the difference is noticeable. These wireless headphones actually sound good. There is NO LAG when watching video either! Definitely take a look at these bad boys! WHAT I LIKE: The CFW2CE headphones feel like they’ll last a lifetime. I have headphones from other major brands in this price range none look or feel as good as these. They’re comfortable. Even on my large head, they fit nicely and I’m able to wear them for hours at a time without issue. The earcups completely cover my ears, but it is close. The memory foam is soft and pillowy. The headphones sound great, too. To be clear, they’re not the best sounding headphones available, but the sound is on par for the price. The sound stage is full and wide with great separation between the channels. The CFW2CE are most comfortable with the mid tones found in rock, country, hip hop, jazz and pop. That’s not to say low and high tones are absent; they’re present but not noteworthy. The headphones are balanced nicely with a preference to sounds in the middle of the range. Lows and mids are crispy clean while I would like to have a bit more in the highs, but that is my personal preference. You can hear all instruments from guitars, drums, and cymbals to electronic sounds. These are fairly accurate but not perfect. The CFW2CE are properly tuned headphones you will thoroughly enjoy. They get loud! They’re among the loudest headphones I’ve ever tested. Since they lack active noise cancellation, that’s a good thing. I’m pleased to report, there is very little distortion when the headphones are at their max volume also. Wireless battery life is excellent. V-Moda claims 14 hours. I used these headphones for several days and never found the bottom of the battery. That’s good enough for me. They lack an auto shut-off feature so pay attention or you will get a dead battery. You can quick charge these for 30mins and get 4 hours of battery life which is nice. The best option is to use a 5V output charging source with the included V-MODA V-Micro USB cable. DO NOT use external chargers with output voltage above 5V (e.g. 9V, 12V etc.) as they might cause damages to the headphones. I wish they were USB-C but here we are again… 2006 USB charging connectors. These headphones are versatile as well. Gaming is a possibility and also using them for calls. The CFW2CE have a wireless range of up to 10 meters (33ft) when paired to a bluetooth device. You can use them in wired mode by plugging them into the headphone jack on the Dualshock 4 controller using the provided 1-Button SpeakEasy™ cable, or the optional BoomPro™ microphone cable. Bluetooth connection is not currently supported for PS4. You can use your CFW2CE in wired mode with the Microsoft Xbox One/360/Xbox One X by plugging them into the headphone jack on the controller using the provided 1-Button SpeakEasy™ cable, or the optional BoomPro™ microphone cable. Please note, a third party adapter is needed to use the CFW2CE in wired mode with the Xbox 360 and if you own an older Xbox One controller, then the official Microsoft Headset adapter will be needed. Bluetooth connection is not currently supported for Xbox One/Xbox One X or Xbox 360 for the lowest latency. You can connect your CFW2CE to your Sony PlayStation 3 via Bluetooth (Settings > Accessory Settings > Manage Bluetooth Devices). When pairing the Crossfade 2 Wireless to the PS3, you may be asked for a "Pass Key", if so enter "0000" and continue. Please note that the PS3 only transmits chat audio through Bluetooth, NOT game audio. You can connect your CFW2CE to the Sony PlayStation Vita via Bluetooth (accessed through the Settings menu). If asked to enter a "pass key", please use "0000". Chat and game audio will be transmitted to your Crossfade Wireless once successfully paired with the PSVita. CFW2CE are able to maintain Bluetooth connection with two devices simultaneously such as smartphone + laptop, smartphone + tablet or smartphone + smartwatch. CFW2CE can be used for your VoIP calls if the source in charge of VoIP is Bluetooth enabled with the hands-free profile. WHAT I DON'T LIKE: These headphones lack two key features: Auto Power Off Timer and Auto Pause. They also lack an app for EQ and firmware updates. I don't like the fact they keep laying when taken off. For me, it's an unfortunate miss from V-Moda although not a deal breaker though. I have forgotten to turn these off a few times, but they still had lots of charge left. These are wireless headphones and therefore they have a limited battery life even though they have great battery life. Wireless headphones MUST have the ability to stop playing audio and auto shutoff when removed from the head. As a bluetooth for calls, think bluetooth from early 1999-2000. Call audio sounds great in both ears, but the caller will hear EVERYTHING in the background. There aren't any noise cancelling microphones so everything will be amplified. Wind blocking is non-existent and low rumbling noises are easily picked up. Callers will know you are outside or on a train. This is a MAJOR weakness but then again, you DON'T buy these headphones for taking calls. Not a deal breaker for me. We are in 2018, for the price I would expect an app and the ability to EQ your expensive headphones and possible firmware updates via the app. Not a deal breaker, but just my expectation. VERDICT: The headphones are available in several colors or you can use V-Moda’s customizer to build a custom pair. I love the V-Moda Crossfade II Wireless Codex Edition headphones. These are great headphones and I COMPLETELY recommend them. The sound profile on these I will characterize as warm and slightly bassy. They punch above their weight class and have a solid build quality that seem like they’ll last longer than other options on the market. With V-Moda's Immortal Life Program, it adds a value of 50% towards a future upgrade of your next pair of V-Modas through their site.

Used to be good. V-moda is the top line of DJ headphones in the music industry but they haven't fixed the problem that the headphones will give you an earache after long use and it's not comfortable to use because of the earcups of the headphone

This is my second pair. The first pair I got out to my truck still in the parking lot and the right channel didn't work. They didn't have anymore. Got another pair at another Best Buy and they worked. The sound is outstanding. Design factors not so much. I opened up the case one time and went to pick them up and somehow one of the headphones managed to twist and it came off the band. Weird. I put it back on and it has happened again but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Oh and that first pair I called V Moda customer service thinking they would be apologetic and say something like "hey sorry that happened to you we want to make it right." Instead I got " go return them and get another pair" Great sound but not impressed overall.

Feels great and the built quality is awesome. My only complaint is that the cups are kind of small so they rest on my ears like a ear on style rather than over. It’s okay for shot sessions but it bothers my ears after some time.

This would be my second V moda cross fade. When it arrived I noticed the volume up button didn’t click like the other buttons. I also noticed that after a day of charge easily, it still would not say it was full charged. Sound quality is ok, enough bass, ok meds and highs. To be fair I am comparing sound quality to planar headphones. Compared to the the original crossfade, the crossfade 2 codex besides folding shut didn’t notice much difference in sound. They are sturdy headphones though.

the good: - sound quality - a bit of a “V” shaped sound signature, very tight and punchy low end. mids are by no means missing, but just slightly recessed to my ears. clean, crisp highs. compared to the sony and bose (and beats?) offerings in the same price range, there is no comparison. these sound fantastic, especially if you use the right codec (AAC or aptX sound great, SBC sounded noticeably worse in my testing). - build quality - one of the things v-moda is known for is build quality, and these definitely do not disappoint. they feel very sturdy and well made. - codec availability - there is a bit of additional cost for the codex version. definitely worth it in my opinion. AAC and aptX really shine, and SBC is passable if nothing else is available on the source device. - comfort - as opposed to the first version, these have upgraded padding. significantly more comfortable that the previous ones were. if you have larger ears, they offer XL pads which are even more comfortable (though they do alter the sound stage by expanding it slightly - personally i use the XL pads for exactly that). - battery life / wired mode - rated at “up to 14 hours”…in my testing i’m needing to charge it every 2-3 days, so battery life isn’t amazing, but not too bad either. an added bonus - they work absolutely fine in wired mode with absolutely no battery, just like a normal pair of headphones. - passive noice cancellation / low sound leakage - no ANC, which i personally feel is a positive (not a fan of the pressure and slight hiss of ANC). they do a fairly good job of passively isolating, and there’s very little sound leakage. - folding - they click/fold down into a very compact shape, considering their size. - case - excellent hard case included. time will tell, but it feels very durable. - custom options - some people will like this and others won’t care, but you do have the ability to personalize these somewhat, with printed shields in a variety of colors and materials. the bad: - nothing for me misc: - some may not like the design, and i’ll admit i was a bit on the fence at first. after using them for a bit, the design has really grown on me. overall: headphones are such a personal preference that it’s hard to say whether or not an individual will like these. i absolutely love them - the have a fun and exciting (if not entirely neutral or accurate) sound, they are super comfortable and easy to transport. easy 5 stars for me.

Unboxing- What a treat. If you’re a fan of actually unboxing items and get a certain satisfaction out of popping tags, V-MODA does you one better. There is a little piece of ribbon that must be cut to get into these headphones. Maybe kind of overkill for some but it makes you feel like you’re unboxing something special, and you are. The hard shell case looks like it will do the job protecting the headphones and it comes with a braided 3.5 plug. Build- These things look like they’re built to withstand being beat up. Military grade durability is not a joke. A steel frame and screws that hold everything together, it doesn’t look like you’ll have any problems snapping these or plastic pieces breaking off like some of the other top headphones in this price range. Very flexible, whether you’re DJing or if you’ve got kids that like to yank them off of your head. The earpads are very comfortable and seem to have some type of memory foam. Sound- Wooh. These sound nice. Crisp highs and low bass with zero distortion. It feels like these have noise cancelling but I don’t know if that’s actually what it’s called. Very little noise gets in when using these to listen to music. I listen to everything on the musical spectrum and haven’t found anything that sounded “bad” through these. It optimizes the sound when playing thru your iOS devices. Leave them wired for the highest quality sound! Battery- Listening normally, you can get up to 14 hours of battery which is pretty good for the quality of the headphones you’re getting. I would never listen to 14+ hours of music but I do forget to plug things in to charge them…so this helps. Extras- You can customize the outside earpiece covers for these and the extent of the customization is actually pretty broad. Check it out, you’ll be impressed. Even though these headphones sound amazing without one, I wish it came with an app to control the EQ on them. I feel like this doesn’t take away from the headphones but it’s always good to have that option. I thoroughly enjoy these headphones and I think if you’re looking for a customizable high end headphone for a high quality audio then look no further than this one!
