Customers are impressed with the picture quality, particularly the black levels and HDR performance of this TV. Many also praised the contrast and color accuracy, while some found the price to be exceptionally good value. However, negative feedback focused on the remote control's usability and the upscaling capabilities for lower-resolution content.

After much research I purchased the P65. The blacks are great, colors are superb and the 4K looks pretty amazing on this display. It is Dolby Vision compliant and it will do HDR10 with a soon to be released firmware update, so it's good to go no matter how the HDR10/Dolby Vision mess unfolds.
Don't buy a TV from what you see in the store! Get on a reliable forum and do your research.
This is the best Display 65" you can buy for less than 2k!

I have always purchased high end Sony and a few high end Samsung TVs. In fact I exchanged a Samsung KS8000 for this set due to backlight bleed issues. I am very tech oriented. I never really looked into a Vizio much in the past, however this display is a game changer that the big competitors need to take note from. From the incredible blacks and the bright vibrant high dynamic range, this display is an unreal value!
The cast feature with the included tablet will no doubt take some time to learn for most, which seems to be the majority of lower scores. In the long run all manufacturers will be taking a similar approach. With that said I already love this take on a smart TV, it already feels old when I power up apps on my 2014 Sony XBR TVs.
Keep up the great work Vizio!

Our 50" Toshiba began to have the "shadow effect" as the board needed replaced. We decided to upgrade to a 55" or 60" 4K. But when we got to the store we found they didn't have either in stock so we were lured to this as an open-box display. Given it was last years model and an open-box we were given a great price and after getting it home and up on the wall we couldn't be happier. Great picture and sound paired with a Vizio sound stand. We're DVR people so I didn't figure Chromecast was going to be a necessary thing but was I wrong. It has saved us already when something went long and screwed up a show! We streamed the show right from my phone in perfect HD! All and all - This is a great TV!

Bought this four months ago, LED array failed and now I'm left with a noticeably dim bar across the bottom of my screen. Vizio support has been very unhelpful in refunding me for this unit, so I can't recommend a purchase. Buy the Samsung KS8000 instead.

I was really excited about getting this TV, all of the reviews I had read had me excited. I decided that this was the TV for me. I drove 21/2 hours one way to get this TV. I UN-boxed it and turned it on and thought the screen looked wrong - after watching some content and trying some calibration patterns I saw the screen from the middle all the way to the right side had some form of screen defect, it was dark and the colors were wrong. So I boxed it up and returned it and got a replacement - thinking that the chances of getting 2 TVs that were bad were next to nil - so I took my second new TV home and guess what??? The second one was also bad, with the exactly same problem!!!! I figured that it was a manufacturing defect and decided that a Samsung would be a better choice. All in all I spent somewhere to 13-15 hours drive time and I am still upset about it. The Samsung I bought has worked flawlessly, unfortunately it was a 2015 model but it is a very nice TV. As an extra note, I had been very careful with my handling of both defective TVs. I am sure it was probably a bad run of TVs and I weeded out two of them. I wished I was given something for my headaches, but no one wanted to do anything to make up for my headaches, a gift card or a nice discount on something would had been nice.

I did a lot of online shopping and review reading before buying this display. I say display, because it doesn't have a built in tuner. Not a problem, since I have cable and media streaming, as will most folks looking at the P65 C-1. In terms of contrast and black levels, this is the next best thing to OLED, and at less than half the price of a comparable sized OLED set. It also compares favorably to Samsung and Sony sets that costing $500-$1000 more. Colors were good out of the box, and are even more lifelike and brilliant after using the calibration settings I found on Rtings.com (check out their review of this display.) There's great detail in dark areas, and with UHD HDR content, the picture is stunning. Right now, it has Dolby-vision HDR but will soon get a firmware upgrade to HDR-10 as well. 4K content from Amazon Prime and Netflix is great. The Android tablet works pretty well for controlling settings and streaming everything but Amazon Prime, which it doesn't support at the moment. That's why I use Amazon Fire TV almost exclusively for streaming, but the Roku 4 would be a great choice for those who don't have Amazon Prime. And, no, I don't work for Vizio. I'm just happy they've put out a terrific set at a very competitive price.

Best 4K HDR at this price point.

This Vizio P series display is almost unarguably the best 4k HDR display at this price point. The key features that set this display apart from the pack are FALD, HDR support of both Dolby and HDR10 on a 10 bit panel and low input lag, which makes it great for gaming.
The feature that sets the P series apart from all other competitors at this price point and below is FALD. FALD, which stands for full array local dimming, is responsible for local backlighting and dimming of specific zones independently within the display. FALD results in superior contrast and black levels when compared to the commonly used and cheaper edge lit technology. While FALD allows for independent control of the dimming of individual zones, edge lit does not. Edge lit displays provide a light source from the edge of the screen, rather than from directly behind, resulting several issues. First, you will notice a glowing from the two edges that light the display, which is obvious on dark screens, or when the display is lit from the top and bottom (KS8xxx and KS9xxx) and watching in letterbox (widescreen). Second, in brighter areas in the column(s) or row(s) that a bight image on a dark background is contained within. For example, a dark scene with a moon displayed on an edge lit will result in a significant bright area in the column(s) or row(s) within the zones that the moon is located in. On a FALD, zones around the moon can be lit and dimmed independently, resulting in actual blacks around the moon. Currently, FALD is only common on LED displays at higher price points. For example, Samsung's only FALD display is found in the KS98xxx series, which retails for $3,000 for the comparable 65" model.
HDR is the next big thing in home displays/tv. HDR stands for high dynamic range, and is comprised of several key factors: color accuracy, contrast and brightness. To quote 4k.com, HDR is “the ability to expand the different stops of both bright and dark levels in a 4K TV for a wider, richer range of colors, much brighter, more realistic whites and much deeper, richer darks, all being manifested at the same time on the same display as needed.” The result is a “far more vibrant and realistic appearance”. With HDR comes a wider range of color that is produced. At this time HDR for the consumer is still in its infancy, as it has only been available for just over a year, which means that there is a lot to be ironed out. As it was with HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray, there are currently two common form factors of HDR vying for mass adoption: Dolby Vision and HDR10. HDR10 is an open source spec, requiring no licensing fees or additional components. Dolby Vision on the other hand requires licensing fees and a component for the TV/display manufacturer. Although Dolby Vision requires additional costs and components, it is undeniably the greater form factor of the two. Without going into too much detail, Dolby Vision specs require higher levels of color, can be adjusted dynamically, and allows for greater bits of color than HDR10. What makes the P series a great choice for HDR content, given the current HDR landscape, is that it supports not only HDR10, but also Dolby Vision. This feature alone makes it among the best options for a future-proofed set, as only LG and TLC feature support for both HDR specs. With that being said, it is also important to understand that the P series panel is a 10bit panel, and not an 8 bit. This means that it can actually produce the extra colors that makes HDR content breathtaking. For example, the M series Vizio, although advertised as an HDR supported set, and can accept a 10bit source, is made of an 8bit panel, and therefore isn’t capable of producing the extra colors that is make up HDR.
The input lag on this display makes it a great choice for gaming. Enabling game mode results in input lag ranging from excellent to satisfactory, depending on the HDMI port, the resolution, and whether the content is HDR or SDR. HDMI port 1, inside of game mode, with 4k content, results in a sub 20ms input lag; however, this port does not support HDR. HDMI ports 1-4 can handle HDR, unlike the speedy HDMI port 5, which results in a satisfactory input lag of 60ms. An update scheduled to arrive this November is slated to reduce input lag of HDMI ports 1-4 with HDR content to 45ms . 45ms input lag for HDR content is currently above average for all displays on the market, with only the US KS8xxx and KS9xxx achieving a lower input lag, approximately 30ms.
The P series does have two notable quirks, which should have little impact on the ultimate decision of anybody considering this display. First, the P series is not a TV, as it lacks a TV tuner. This is why Vizio refers to it as an entertainment display, rather than a TV. This should be of little issue, as for those with cable are most likely provided a TV tuner by their cable company, and those of us without cable don’t need a tuner anyway. The second quirk is the lack of physical remote, replaced by a low-mid end tablet. The P series features built-in Chromecast (Vizio SmartCast), which allows you to access all of the typical settings and more via an app installed on the included tablet – this app can also be downloaded via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The built-in casting feature means you can cast from a support app to the display, without the need of an independent Chromecast.
The P series is the 4k HDR display to beat at this price point. The only worthy contenders of the P Series at this price range are the KS8xxx and KS9xxx series, which are not FALD displays. The decision between the aforementioned Samsung options and the Vizio’s P series will ultimately come down to a tradeoff between the negative effects of the cheaper edge-lit panel within the Samsung, and the 5% greater color gamut of found within the aforementioned Samsung displays. Unless the display will only be used in a well-lit room, the P series is undeniably the best 4k HDR display at this price point and below.

I tried to ignore the issues, the photos of screen problems, etc.... After all, I have been very lucky always when going with my gut on electronic purchases even when reviews are bad. I had a feeling though... never gotten a Vizio before. Read hundreds of reviews and the positive reviews are great. But man... look at the pictures! I had exactly the same screen issues seen and posted by others here. I am returning the TV as soon as possible. I may give it another chance, not sure. For now, I will wait for a while before spending $2K+ again.

The Good: Incredible price for what you get. To get full array backlighting on a Sony or Samsung 65" you would have to pay about $1500 more and you still would not get Dolby Vision. To go OLED, you would have to pay $2500 more. The blacks on this set are incredible and can only be surpassed by OLED. The overall picture quality is phenominal and so life like.
The Bad: My first monitor was delivered in May 2016. It had two problems. The most serious was that on occasion, the left half of the screen had a greenish tint. There was a clear line of demarcation right down the middle of the screen. The second problem was an ARC communication issue between the monitor and the receiver. About twice an hour the picture and sound would drop and come back after 5 seconds. Best Buy replaced the monitor. The screen issue was no longer a problem, but the ARC issue continued between the Vizio and the Denon AVR 3200. Best Buy allowed me to swap Denon receivers and that eliminated the dropping of the picture and sound, but I would still get an annoying message across the top of the screen. To get rid of that, I had to turn ARC off. That in turn eliminated my ability to control the volume through the cable remote. So now I use the cable remote for most functions and the Denon remote for volume control. A little annoying, but not a big deal.
The tablet takes some getting use to, but I blame me more than Vizio. The ability to cast is great as is the ability to make picture adjustments and being able to see the changes on the screen instead of having the screen blocked by an on screen menu.
My Recommendation: Buy this monitor. They are having a hard time keeping up with the demand. Given the savings, buy the extended service plan from Best Buy in case there are any problems. Don't buy the extended service plan from Vizio as it is farmed out to a third party which does not have a good reputation.
I also have to give a lot of praise to Riley and Justin in the Castleton IN Best Buy. These issues took over two months to resolve. I had Vizio blaming Denon and Denon blaming Vizio. These guys stuck with me and gave me a lot of suggestions to try. They did not try to pull things like "Once the first 30 days are up, you have to deal with the manufacturer." They did not desert me after the sale like some other salespeople do.

First off, I bought this TV in April, and have waited until now to write this review. Seems like a lot of people are too quick to judge things before they’ve fully experienced the product for a while.
OUT-OF-THE-BOX HINT/ADVICE: Don’t follow the instructions word for word. Power on the tablet first before you even plug in the TV. Go through all the settings, skipping what you need to, and fully update the tablet before doing anything else. After that, plug the TV in (the TV automatically powers on when you do this), and complete the setup process.
The TV itself, is magnificent. It has all the top line specs (i.e. 128 LED zones), for the best price. With the current update, this TV now has BOTH versions of HDR (Dolby Vision & HDR10). For those who don’t know, Only Vizio & LG (way more expensive) make TV’s that feature both currently. The difference between the 2: Dolby Vision requires a specific chipset, HDR10 is essentially software only. Picture is stunning in the 4k HDR, colors are extremely vibrant, and contrast is superb. I love the narrow brush chrome finish around the TV, and it wall mounts easily. The TV speakers are decent, but let’s be honest, if you’re going to have a TV like this, you should get at least a soundbar to go with it.
My current setup: 65” Vizio P65-C1 TV, Onkyo TX-NR555 receiver (Dolby Atmos and DTS:X capable), 5.1.2 Polk Audio Speakers/sub, Logitech Harmony Hub, PS3 (will get the new PS4K when it comes out), and DirecTV Genie. ***Mad Max: Fury Road 4K with Dolby Vision HDR & Dolby Atmos will blow your mind***
Few tips & things:
1) I keep the display on the Cast input when not in use, and scrolls through brilliant photos, basically making it a digital portrait frame.
2) I bought a Harmony Hub ($100) which turns the tablet remote into a true universal remote. I like the tablet and it’s pretty cool, however, it doesn’t allot for real efficient one-handed operation, but easy to see in the dark.
3) FYI: Amazon Prime members won’t be able to “Cast” to the TV. Amazon doesn’t have an appropriate Android app to do so. You will need some other device (PS3 in my case, perhaps a Roku 4) to stream Amazon Prime to the TV.

I'll start by saying I'm really into getting the best picture possible but on a budget. I'm an early adopter for everything 4k. Running 4k blu ray movies on this display blows away the quality i was getting from my 2015 model Samsung that supposedly had HDR. The FALD display means no light bleeding which was horrible on the Samsung! I ran both tvs side by side playing the a 4k movie from the same source using a 4k hdmi splitter and there was no doubt the Vizio picture was better. Much more rich in color and detail. The hdr function is insane! I switched it off and on while watching several movies and the detail and black levels were night and day in my opinion. I have read a lot of complaints about tablet and adjusting settings. Even reviews by cnet and other reputable websites apparently haven't figured out that you CAN adjust the settings for picture without using the slider. Just press on the number to the right of the slider and you can adjust each setting up or down by pressing the + or - symbol. Overall, this tv has exceeded my expectations, especially for the price. I'd like to thank the gentleman at best buy who was able to track one of the tvs down for me, none of the stores in my area was showing any in stock but he made some calls and tracked one down in about ten minutes. That's great customer service!

I needed a TV that was a good dark room performer and this doesn't disappoint. Do the colors pop as much as the Sony x930d or Samsung KS8000? Not quite but they're close and the one thing this TV does better than both is great black levels for an LCD display. Obviously not OLED levels but just about as close as you're gonna get for an LED LCD. Because of the deeper blacks the colors do pop more than the 2 I mentioned in a dark room. This tv is great for moving watching in a home theatre room or dark basement. With the full array local dimming, there is no blooming or light bleeding into the letterbox bars while watching movies which bugged the heck out of me when I had the x930d. Dolby Vision material looks superb and gaming in HDR 10 looks very good as well. It doesn't get quite as bright as the Sony and Samsung TVs for HDR but the deeper black helps make up for that and it still does get plenty bright. The Sony was so bright while watching HDR10 content that it would bother my eyes and I'd have to turn down the brightness. I'd give dark room picture quality a 9/10 and overall an 8.5 out of 10.
The tv also handles motion very well. I haven't noticed any stuttering/judder and it also handles motion blur very well. I'm very OCD when it comes to these things in particular and is the main reason I'm holding off on OLED a little longer. As beautiful as OLED is and the improvements they've made in motion handling, they still have issues with some material.
The one thing that some people may take issue with is that there is no on screen display or any smart features whatsoever. It has Google Cast (chromecast) built in so you cast the app you want to use from your phone or tablet to the tv. It's no big deal for me since I have a chromecast hooked up to all 5 of my TVs already and actually prefer streaming this way but I can see some people taking issue with this. It also comes with an android tablet to control your tv, cast apps and change picture settings, etc... It does also come with a basic regular remote to turn the tv on/off, change inputs, picture size and picture modes. All the tweaking has to be done through the included tablet though or by downloading the Vizio app to your phone or tablet. You can basically control and tweak this tv with any smart device in your house.
This is also a very good tv for gaming through HDMI input 5. The input lag is higher for inputs 1-4 but they're not bad. The lag does go up when playing in HDR through those inputs but Vizio has an incoming firmware update to bring the input lag down to a good level. I have the beta firmware installed by requesting it from Vizio and it does seem to cut the lag down. This is only for people who are very sensitive to it as the majority of people don't notice inputnkag unless it's very bad.
Overall this is a great tv for the price and I recommend this to anyone who's looking for great dark room performance, wants a tv with both Dolby Vision and HDR 10 and wants a tv with low input lag for 1080p gaming and good input lag from the other inputs.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I previously wrote a review about a year back about this TV. I had received a defective panel which resulted in artifacts all over the screen. I had plans on updating my review however was unsure how to. I received a replacement and this review will cover the past year of usage. This review can be used for the new 2017 models since its the same TV.
Overall, I have been extremely happy with this TV. A more accurate rating would have been a 4.5/5. This TV is set in my theater room and is used 90% of the time for movies and console video games, which is exactly why I bought it. The black levels on the thing is absolutely amazing for the price which you can pick it up for. Vizio really did an amazing job with their FALD technology, and its a great step in-between edge lit TVs and OLED. This makes movie watching in my basement amazing as the black bars in movies stay black, with zero blooming. The only real issue I have is the P series does not get very bright. Sure 500 nits isn't terrible, but when compared to other sets that hit 1,000+, you can definitely tell the difference. However, you are only play $2,000 for the 65 inch compared to other flagships which will run you $3,500+.
I mentioned before that I mainly use this TV for movies and video games. We do not usually watch TV on it mainly because Vizio's upscaling is not the greatest. When compared to my Sony, there is a clear difference. However, to mitigate this, you can pass your cable box through your 4K compatible console and have that upscale it to 4K instead of the TV, which made a big difference in picture quality.
The build quality is good, but not great. Although it looks like a nice TV, it doesn't have that premium pop that other brands have. To me, this TV was purchased for picture quality and sits in the basement, so I could care less.
You will definitely need a sound bar, as the sound from this sucks, to put it blatantly. There is zero bass and the mids and highs feel shallow. However, the TV does support ARC, so changing inputs with a soundbar is simple enough.
The only other real topic about this TV is the implementation of the tablet. With the new 2017 models, they removed the tablet for a more traditional remote and onscreen GUI. You can still cast just like before, but this was a great step for Vizio. Although I commend them for trying something new, outside the norm from every other TV, it can definitely be a pain in the butt trying to get your phone or tablet to connect and stay connected. The tablet for me is pretty much pointless, as I use the app on my iPhone instead. The software has come a LONG way since day 1, however still has its quirks.
In closing, I would highly recommend this TV to certain group of people, but not everyone. This TV is great for movie watching and playing video games, however if you plan on only using it for TV, then I would probably look at other sets. Also, if your room is extremely bright or will produce reflections, I would also look at other sets mainly because this TV does not get extremely bright.

I originally purchased 55ef9500 which is an amazing tv loved tv but it was a little too small for my living room! And 5000 is little much for a 65 in tv so after reading specs and seeing some reviews from early adopters on avs forums . I returned my ef9500 and this tv is amazing black level is amazing for led no bleeding / blooming . Dolby vision is amazing I have watched heart of the sea and some Marco Polo on Netflix so clear compared to hd counterparts(almost like a film lifted off it ) tv will get hdr10 update then it will be complete!! Only thing is missing is 3D which I loved but I will just watch 3D on vt plasma which was still good!! Colors also pop! Great in dark room or bright room !! This will hold me over until I can get a 100 in roll up Oled that can be held up by magnets or something!!

I purchased this TV after doing quite a bit of research. My interested features in a TV were the highest quality picture, most technologically advanced, with high customer support and reliability (now here's the catch) that fell within my small budget.
I would have loved to get a high end LG OLED or Samsung with all the bells and whistles but given my budget of $2K, the Vizio filled all my needs.
And what impressive features it touts. Both Dolby Vision and HDR10 technologies. Deepest blacks that rival OLED tvs. A tablet included as a remote. Latest AC WiFi connectivity for 4k streaming. FALD technology to produce deep blacks. All this for $2K. VideophIles on the net and professional reviewers were giving it high praise. I was sold and went out and bought it.
I myself personally love it and I'm happy with my purchase and after a month of heavy use, I am still in love with the TV. That being said, this TV isnt for everyone. It has its shortcomings.
IMHO, first of all if you are not a techie, you will not like this TV because the tech wow factor will not be enough to please you after dealing with all the software and possible hardware issues. Mainstream complaint I read about is the constant disconnects and hangups caused by the android devices and/ or the TV. For me, a simple app close or input change almost always fixes the issue. I've had to factory reset once when a flickering issue persisted and it cleared it up.
Second, tech advanced consumers are unhappy with the HDR issues and communication with other set top devices currently with the set. VIZIO CTO claims these issues will be addressed with a few firmware updates to be released in the near future.
My recommendation is based on your tech level and needs. If you are a techie on a budget, want a high performance display, don't mind the small inconvenience's and willing to wait for fix in an update you will love this TV.
If you don't care for all that tech advanced stuff and want a traditional smart TV without the issues mentioned then this TV is not for you.

4K HDR...both hdr10 and Dolby vision can only be obtained on TCL, Vizio, and LG brand tvs so far within this early format war. TCL is definitely a bargain basement brand with LG being the top given their class leading Oleds. That leaves Vizio as the middle child for your best bang for buck. This P65-C1 looks awesome in a dark room with HDR 4K content...simply awesome. It even caters to the cord cutters of the world by not really being a TV but just a really good home theater display. It includes a tablet that Google cast your steamed content to the display. In all honesty it's cool for the first week or two but in everyday practice it gets annoying. The screen has a matte finish which I feel is better suited for dark room viewing than bright rooms. This tv wasn't for me. Word of advice...once you go oled black you'll never go back. The blacks are great on this tv, the off angle viewing on all led tvs pretty much suck. Colors wash out crazy. So I sold my first born for an oled.

I have been looking for a 4k TV for about 8 months. I wanted an OLED, but couldn't spend that kind of money on it. I was thinking of purchasing a samsung, until Vizio announced this TV. This is an amazing TV with deep blacks. Great TV for gaming with 15 Ms input lag. Movies look great and the upscaling is great on 1080p content. Upscaling on 720 and below is decent, but there is only so much you can do with it. Casting is a great idea and works well. This TV also has HDR Dolby vision and will get an hdr 10 update in a month or so. The Picture quality is top class. FALD is awesome, no light bleed at all. This TV is simply one of the best on the market and not just because of price. It is a quality set for a lot less than OLED and a lot cheaper then Samsung. Vizio has simply came out with a game changing set.

I have had the display for over a month now and I couldn't be happier. As long as you are aware of the frequently mentioned negatives - no built in tv tuner/poor off angle viewing/poor built in speakers (none of which apply to my viewing/listening set up) it is an amazing display.
As far as soft upscaling of sources less than 1080, I watch ota channels via a TIVO Roamio/ota antenna and the pic quality is more than acceptable, even the 720p broadcasts. Streaming content (thru a Roku 4 or the new Samsung 4k player) from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon looks amazing as do regular blu rays and especially 4k HDR discs.
Yes, there is sometimes a very short lag when adjusting settings using the tablet and for me at least more of a lag before Dolby Vison content from Netflix begins to stream. Be patient...it is worth the wait.
IMHO I got a $3,500 - $5,000 quality display for $2,000. The reviews that say this display delivers the best bang for your buck are absolutely correct.

I really love this tv. I use it to play games in 4k with pc as well as for watching movies. I have no complains so far I had it for more than 2 months now. The movies in 4k look amazing as well as HDR dolby vision content. Colors out of the box are pretty good but I would suggest getting it calibrated to your preference. This tv has the best local dimming I have seen as well as black levels and dark detail. I recommend it movie fanatics due to quality in blacks is not gloomy, the response time and input lag are very low. Sound quality is not good I have it conected to Bose surround sound, so that doesn't bother me. You will need a sound system. Great quality and great deal for those of us who can affort oled.
