Customers are satisfied with the video quality, easy setup, smartphone app, battery life, night light, and pan and tilt features of the baby monitor. They appreciate the excellent video and audio quality, as well as the convenience of the smartphone app. The night light feature is also a plus, providing additional comfort for the baby. However, some customers have experienced issues with the connection and reliability of the monitor.

We left it plugged in in our living room while baby was still in bassinet and it worked great for two weeks! But then we unplugged it at night to start taking it to bed with us and every night it freezes. Even the power button won’t work. I just let it die and plug back in later. Must need to stay plugged in which is not helpful, but the app on my phone seems to work fine all the time.

Garbage and waste of money , like everyone has stated it literally worked perfect for 30 days and no longer connects unless you unplug and plug back in every time and then randomly disconnects again through the night. Waste of money and creates more hassle then any benefits , don’t waste your money !

This camera has been a lifesaver. When home we have been able to keep track of our baby waking up. When we went on a trip we moved it to another location to watch over our dogs. Really great product. The monitor is long range and the wifi connection is excellent.

A Solid Portable Baby Monitor

So I decided to get The VTech 1080p Smart WiFi Video Baby Monitor, as our travel monitor and for its mobility to place it anywhere around the house because of its compact size and the ability to also use the smart app as a monitor, so my wife and myself can both monitor our baby.
The VTech baby monitor delivers exceptional video quality with its 1080p resolution. This level of clarity allows us to see every detail because its sharp image quality makes it easy to monitor my baby, even in low light conditions. The monitor's 5-inch display provides a clear viewing experience. I appreciate the larger screen, as it allows me to see my baby more clearly. The interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, though at times I do wish it was a touchscreen to move around the interface a tad quicker.
The Vtech app is also a huge feature, in that it allows us to monitor the camera directly from our phones. Setup was super easy in that you just pull up the QR-code in the monitor's settings and scan it on your phone and you have a camera feed straight to your smartphone.
A nice feature of this monitor is its ability to pan and tilt the camera 360 degrees. With just a few button presses on the unit or in the app, you can adjust the camera's view to cover the entire nursery,or playroom ensuring that you can see your child at all times.
The night vision feature is a lifesaver for those nighttime check-ins. The monitor automatically switches to night vision mode when the room is dark, providing a clear grayscale image without the need for additional lighting. The built-in night light is a nice addition and you can customize the colors in the settings.
The two-way, talk-back intercom feature allows me to communicate with our baby from the monitor, offering reassurance and comfort when needed. And it's also a nice feature to get in touch with my wife when she is ignoring her phone when she is with the baby.
The temperature monitoring feature is another thoughtful addition, in that It allows us to keep an eye on the nursery's temperature and ensures that our baby is comfortable and safe, especially as the weather starts to get colder. I’ve seen some reports of people having issues with connections and really have only run into that when I’m all the way in the basement and the nursery is on the 3rd floor, but we mostly got this for when we are traveling to the in laws or for trips where we won't be too far from the camera or.
Overall, the VTech 1080p Smart WiFi Video Baby Monitor is a great bang for your buck monitor when traveling. Its crystal-clear video quality, 360-degree pan and tilt, 5in display, night vision, and two-way intercom provides us convenience and peace of mind. The remote access via WiFi is a valuable feature that allows us to keep us connected to our baby.

Standard baby monitors are typically limited to the signal between the camera and the monitor itself. For most of us, it’s likely not an issue, but it can restrict your movements (at least when wanting to view the baby monitor). This Vtech monitor solves that problem by connecting to your Wi-Fi. Gone are the days of a lost connection between the monitor and the camera. It also connects to an app on your phone for those times when you forgot to bring the monitor with you or the battery has died. But what I really like about this monitor is the visual clarity and the ability to tilt and zoom - which brings a lot of flexibility.
IN THE BOX and SETUP
You’ll get the camera, the monitor, and two power cables (one for each). The setup for the monitor and the camera is pretty straightforward. All you need to do is plug both items in and they will connect. Connecting the camera to the app wasn’t difficult, but I did accidentally download the wrong app (similarly named). Once I had the correct app on my phone, setup was relatively easy. It’s basically as simple as scanning the QR code on the camera, and typing in your WiFi password.
After that, you’ll end up with a traditional baby monitor setup, with the additional ability to monitor (and control) the camera from the app on your phone.
The camera can be placed on a flat surface, or, you can use the wall mount to secure it to the wall. The latter provides better placement as - depending on your setup - you can have the camera above a crib/bed looking down. For example, in our house, we don’t have furniture that is above the railing of the crib, so placing the camera on the changing table nearby doesn’t provide us with much of a view (although we can obviously hear our baby, which is what matters). The mount attaches much like anything else you’d hang in drywall, but the mount can rotate down to provide that top down view. Of course, you’ll need to account for a plug. Luckily the power cord for the camera should be plenty long.
FEATURES
Other than the ability to view your camera from the app, this camera falls in line with what you’d expect. To me, the biggest step up from other monitors I’ve used is the image quality. The video is sharp, crisp and colorful. One can debate whether it’s necessary to have super sharp images on a baby monitor, but it’s better than grainy footage. The marketing claims it's 1080p, but there’s some limitations that are confusing. For example, I only get 720p when viewing on my phone (which is streaming over the internet) but you’ll get 1080p when viewing the camera on the monitor. It also has tilt and zoom, which again, provides flexibility that not everyone would necessarily need; but if you travel and take this with you, it’s nice knowing you can make these adjustments. Plus, tilting and zooming does give you a better view of the entire room (should that be something you’d want to do).
In addition to those features you get the standard fare: night light, music, (timers for both), night vision, sound and motion detection. I was unable to see if you could add your own music to the library, but there’s a decent selection of sounds from white noise to ocean waves. The night light can get pretty darn bright, but you can easily turn down the brightness levels on the monitor.
The motion detection can be adjusted on the monitor or even turned off. I noticed it can get pretty sensitive, so pay attention to that, you might want to adjust it. Our kid moves a lot while sleeping, so we’ve turned the motion detection off and react when we hear noise. The volume coming through the monitor is adjusted with hard face buttons. The speaker gets pretty loud, so if it’s turned up, you won’t have an issue hearing it. Sometimes, I will leave the sound muted (when I’m letting my kid self soothe). There’s a light ring in the top right corner of the monitor that lights up green/red when it detects sound and/or motion. This is a nice visual cue if you are trying to take a break from hearing crying.
The monitor’s default, at least for me, was set to have the screen always on. You’ll definitely want to get into the settings to adjust that - to save battery. I keep the timer on for the screen so that it turns off after a few moments of silence and/or no movement. Of course, when it picks up sound or movements the screen will turn back on.
The night vision is really nice. Most baby monitors have it, but this camera’s night vision really excels. Even in a pitch black room, you can see everything in the room where your camera is located.
In terms of distance, I didn’t walk down my street to see how far the monitor reached, but staying around my yard while sitting outside was not an issue. Not to mention, again, that even if your monitor were to lose connection or say you went to a neighbor’s house, you can always access the camera feed from your phone. I never lost connection from the camera to the monitor, but the range feels inconsequential given the app access.
THE APP
To me the real benefit of this particular model, in addition to the tilt/zoom feature is the app. Imagine you forgetting to charge your monitor; well all you need to do is go to the app. Your app can be accessed anywhere you have an internet connection. The app provides similar functionality to the monitor, although you can’t zoom as much (you pinch to zoom in). But you can still bring up a menu to pan and tilt, turn on/off the night light or play music. You can also take pictures and record videos if you so choose. The only downside is that the app has to be open to hear your baby. Unlike my old Arlo baby monitor (RIP) which allowed you to minimize your app, turn off the screen, and the audio would still come through. The app also has some helpful sleep tips for any new parents or parents struggling to get their child to sleep. We haven’t really used them, but I certainly appreciate those tips being there.
FLAWS
There’s very few flaws in this monitor. The only things that bug me are the charging cable for the monitor not being USB-C and the battery. First, I’m of the opinion that every personal electronic device needs to charge via USB-C. I hate having to keep track of proprietary cables. But you're stuck here. And the battery life is good, don’t get me wrong. It will provide 10ish hours of battery life. But in my experience, that’s total battery life irrespective of the screen being on or not.. As in even with the screen off - like when your child is asleep and sleeps through the night - it will drain. Since I primarily use this monitor in my house, this isn’t too big of a deal as I can always plug it in and keep the volume up high to hear if my baby cries. But I wish the standby battery life was much longer.
CONCLUSION
With a sea of options, this Vtech monitor should be towards the top of your list in searching for quality baby monitors. Vtech is a trusted brand and this model is worth it for the app access alone. And it just works, which at the end of the day, is all you need.

Vtech is a name associated with quality baby products, the 5 inch smart wi-fi 1080p pan and tilt monitor is one such product. Using the said baby monitor is pretty much easy. Just plug the monitor and the camera and just make sure they are near one another and you are good to go. Please note that the monitor itself has an internal batter so that you can move it around. But the problem with a direct connection is that the distance between the monitor and camera is that it is limited. The good thing here is that there is a wifi option for this monitor. But more on that later.
Operation of the baby monitor is simply straightforward. Press the menu button on the monitor and you can have access to its main features including a pairing command to your phone. Features include what Vtech calls the WeeSleep sound and light profile which helps set the tone for baby to sleep. To add it has a touch adaptive color night light again sets the mood for baby to sleep. The included camera a a pan, tilt, and zoon function and also includes 24 times zoom capability. Resolution of the camera is at 1080p only. For some this may be a big deal but for me it is fine since I am not making movies and truth be told is already quite decent since we are talking about a five inch screen here.
As mentioned earlier, there is an app for this baby monitor and it is available in both iOS and Android. Do note that most video enabled devices utilize only the 2.4Ghz band for a greater range presumably. Once connected you can update your firmware. But in my unit, the product is up to date. With that you can have an extended baby monitor.
The Vtech Smart Wi-Fi monitor is a fairly simple product but is quite capable and simple to use. I would highly recommend this for those who have new borns.

Vtech 5" Smart Wi-Fi 1080p Pan & Tilt Monitor (RM5766HD)
Quick Overview
=================================
Baby monitors have come a long way! Our first child was born in 2012 and wireless units that were available at that time were grainy, poor-quality, and expensive for what you got! I ended up building a custom solution with my own network-enabled cameras. Now that wireless technology supports much higher speeds, screens are higher-resolution, batteries last longer, and sensor quality on cameras are better, there are much better offerings!
If you're looking for a Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) camera with extra features for your little ones, definitely consider this Vtech!
Overall build
=================================
When you open the box, you'll notice that everything is packaged carefully and there are two chargers. Though they are listed as the same output, one has a slightly larger plug and is for charging the display or "parent" unit. The other adapter is for the camera which requires it (no battery). Place the camera where you want it and connect power. While your "parent" unit is charging, it will connect automatically to the camera and you should see the video feed.
The camera itself is a bit taller than a can of soda and has a round camera body that can tilt up and down. The base of the camera can swivel, allowing 360 degree coverage for wherever your little one may move! The base can also light up in different patterns, acting as a nightlight or a simple distraction.
The "parent" unit is like a small tablet or large phone size. It has a 5" diagonal display that's listed as "High Definition" which probably means 720p. Yes, the box has 1080p on it, but that's probably referring to the camera's actual sensor.
Though we're all used to touchscreens in this day and age, this is not a touchscreen and you'll have to navigate using the Menu button and directional buttons on the right-hand side. Above it is a back button that also acts as a Push-to-talk (PTT) button when you want to communicate.
The display itself and the video feed are quite clear. Navigating the menus are easy and you can choose options like lighting color, lighting timer, sounds/lullabies, and more. At the top right corner of the housing is a light bar that shows sound levels from green (low) to red (high).
Performance
=================================
I was very pleased with the video quality and the screen quality throughout the house. I tested it in three different rooms across two floors and the quality was just fine, especially for viewing and listening to what was going on. PTZ controls are instant and the low-light mode switches instantly back and forth from full-color to low-light depending on the situation. The wide angle (135 degrees) gives you a wide view of everything that's going on. The sensor of the camera is listed as a "2K 1080p" sensor which doesn't matter if the "parent" device is 720p outside of enabling some better "cropped zoom". You may be able to take advantage of the additional resolution on the mobile app depending on your device.
The light modes are nice to have with a lot of customization options including the colors and brightness. I liked the choices of sounds as well which included some lullabies and white noise options (TV static, ocean noises, birds chirping). I thought the person saying "shhhhh" was a bit strange, but I could see people appreciating that option.
Pairing this for use over a mobile network with the app was fairly easy, but there's conflicting information on the box. The box says to use the "MyVTech Baby Pro" app while the printed instructions inside recommend using the "MyVTech Baby Plus" app. I didn't try both, just the one that was printed inside the box. Installing it was fine and you'll scan a QR code on your "parent" device to sync as well as pushing a "pairing" button on the bottom of the camera. Once I did that, I was able to view the camera feed on Wi-Fi in the house or on mobile outside of the house!
After pairing with the camera, it asks you for a piece of information some may feel is intrusive. To add your camera to the app, you'll need to create a profile to allow "AI functions". They require your baby's name, date of birth, and gender. I suppose they think they can better advise you or alert you to possible "AI-determined" issues if they know the baby's relative age and gender, but it could be a privacy concern to some people since companies that access personal data are hacked every week. I'd prefer that to be an optional step since I just wanted the camera feed.
One thing that didn't perform as well was the PTT feature. As mentioned earlier, hearing what's going on in the monitored room works very well. Speaking to them clearly is not that straightforward. You must hold down the Talk button, wait, speak clearly and close to the mic (possibly covered by your thumb), then hold for another second (or else your last word will be cut off), then let go of the Talk button. More often than not, I tried to use this "normally" and quickly and my last word would be cut off. I had to be very deliberate about speaking clearly right in front of the mic hole and holding down the Talk button for one more second after my last word. If this worked perfectly like a PTT intercom or walkie talkie, it would be a nearly perfect device.
Conclusion
=================================
We've come a long way from low-resolution, grainy baby monitors. This is a great, portable, decent resolution screen with good connectivity and useful features (PTZ, lights, 2-way audio, white noise, mobile connectivity). I'm not in love with the mobile app's need for a "child profile" that will be analyzed by AI, but if you don't need the mobile connectivity, the handheld "parent" device is a great way to keep tabs on your little ones. Even though my youngest isn't a "baby" any longer, this is a great way to keep up with them while they're playing or while they're in their classroom to ensure they are staying on task.

Straight out of the box, the setup process was refreshingly intuitive. And considering the myriad of devices I've interfaced with over the years, this is no small feat. VTech clearly understood the assignment, providing a straightforward approach that effortlessly integrated with my home Wi-Fi. The immediate connectivity meant I was up and running in record time, and that, for me, is always a major plus.
The accompanying VTech app was another highlight. Given my familiarity with a multitude of applications, I was genuinely impressed by its sleek design and efficiency. Offering remote access to the camera, the app was both agile and user-friendly, a testament to the attention VTech pays to user experience.
The real gem, however, is the camera itself. What truly sets it apart is its remote pan & tilt functionality. No matter where my baby moved within his crib, I could easily adjust the camera's angle to keep him in view. The 360-degree coverage ensured no blind spots, and the video feed? Crisp, clear, and exactly what I'd anticipate from a device in this price bracket. It’s no 4k video feed, but it will get the job done.
The battery life is also worth noting. This is my third kiddo and I have used my fair share of monitors over the years and one major pain point was battery life. I found myself tethered to an outlet more than I was able to use them while roaming the house. Not only does this monitor have a screen, but the battery life blew me away. I can use it all day without having to think about plugging it in. Well done, VTech.
It's worth noting that while some users reported connectivity challenges, my experience was flawless. Throughout my 1400 sqft home, the signal strength remained unwavering, whether I was working from my home office, lounging in the living room, or tinkering in the garage. This consistent performance speaks volumes about the product's reliability.
The VTech 1080p Smart WiFi Video Baby Monitor not only met but exceeded my expectations as a tech enthusiast. It marries top-tier functionality with a user-centric approach, a combination that's hard to come by. If you're in search of a reliable baby monitoring solution, and you appreciate the nuances of well-designed tech, look no further than this gem from VTech.

I got this monitor because I have twins and it is not easy to keep up with both of them and having an extra way to keep an eye on them is a great help.
The camera right out of the box comes with the monitor, power cables for both the monitor and the camera and the mount to place the camera on a surface like on the wall or shelf.
The monitor has a built in battery so I can take it with me in any room while the camera can stay where I have it, and it is easy to take it to another room if necessary.
The camera and the monitor worked right away, there is no need for WiFi for them to work together, I just turned them both on and done.
The monitor is big enough at five inches and I can see clearly what is going in the next room.
The camera does tilt up and down, zoom in and out and while the base stays the rest pans around and it does cover the entire room and works day and night. I really like that it senses motion and I can change the sensitivity, if one of the babies moves I do get an alert. I also like that the base of the camera is lighted, it can be used as a night light and it has different modes, colors and it is dimmable.
The two-way is amazing, I can hear clearly what is going on in the room where the camera is and I can always turn on the mic to talk to them from the monitor as well as the app.
The app is also very helpful, being away from home does not mean I am no longer aware of what is going on with the twins, I can see them, hear them and I can always talk to them from anywhere I am.
Overall I think it does a great job, I like the motion detection, light and sound, two way mic and speaker. and the 360 coverage of the room.

New To The Baby Monitor World

As an older Grandparent with a new baby in the home I needed a monitor that was very user friendly. After reading the instructions and scanning the QR code included in the instructions with my phone for more support I was ready to go. I was learning for the first time how to set up and use a monitor. I found the 5” Smart Wi-Fi 1080p Pan & Tilt Monitor easy to set up. I had to plug the monitor in so it could charge the re-chargeable battery. Both the monitor and the camera need plugged into the electric and the cords are NOT interchangeable. Once they were charged up I began the “connection” process. I had forgotten to put up the antenna on the monitor but once I did that It was a smooth process and the monitor and the camera connected quickly. I love that I can move the monitor from room to room with me.
Next I found that I needed to adjust the volume and practice talking through it so it sounded soothing to the baby. I loved the night light on the camera. It was nice soft peach color light that was not distracting. It was a comforting color and I learned that I can turn it off if I do not want to use it. I will be using it though.
Now that everything was set up and working I began downloading the MyVTech Baby Plus APP on my iPhone. I easily found the APP by scanning the QR Code on the box. I was required to set up an account but once that was done I could easily view the baby with my iPhone using my home WIFI. The APP is user friendly and I found it to have no lag time. My internet went offline once and the APP was unusable but when internet is working it is great.

Great setup for essential monitoring

When looking at a baby monitor I believe there are a few important call outs that seem most useful to parents.
1. Ease of use - Setup is quick and easy. I was able to setup with the mobile app very easily. I even got to update the firmware to make sure all features were up to date. The app allows for you to take advantage of the 1080p recording instead of using the 720p 5 inch portable display. Imagine being able to leave your child with the sitter and they can utilize the portable display while you can check in via your phone at any time when you are out of the home. You can setup notifications for motion and temperature within range. You can adjust the sensitivity very easily for these notifications.
2. Connectivity - While I have been using this for 5+ days now, I do not have any issues connecting either from my app or via the display. With the display there were a few instances were it lost connection (and it notified me of the disconnect via the tone that you can setup in settings). Even though it disconnected, it was connected within a few seconds.
3. Value for money - Being able to live view video from the app without paying extra for it is a win by itself. You can take advantage of recording videos of baby moments to your app. Including the ability to have a night light that you can turn on via app, display, or the camera itself is a great functionality. Having a varying type of sleep inducing sounds is also great to keep the child asleep. Being able to safely monitor ambient room temperature is a nice feature. You can even add on an additional camera to your setup if you please later on. The only thing I would like to knock is the quality of the LCD display, it is only 720p when you are provided a 1080p camera..

This has been a great buy. We owned a previous generation of this product and were already happy with the VTech series and have noticed a few improvements with this generation. Video quality has been solid (both daytime and 'night vision'), battery life has been great, and we frequently use the monitor and mobile app to check-in. Kid loves the night light and that he gets to pick what color he wants for the night. We have another baby product (costs about 2x this monitor) that we got when trying to use our FSA funds and wish we had just gotten the VTech product from the get-go.

Great when it works correctly. The hand unit it comes with freezes at least twice a day and we have only been using it 3 days now. We were moving when we bought it so by the time we set it up it was no longer returnable. The app on your phone works pretty good though.
It’s to the point that I cannot trust it to wake me up at night if my child wakes up and starts crying. It froze 3 times today alone and I woke up to it beeping at me about not having a connection. I had to turn it off and back on, this is better then the two times it just plain out froze on me today and I had to get a little pin to reset it with the button on the back that you can only push with a small pin.
Get a different brand if you want something reliable at night, this is only good for short naps in the daytime when you don’t need it to be reliable.

Great battery life, but the camera will fail.

This is our second VTech baby monitor, and they all seem to work great at first, but then they all fail. I'll start with the good:
Phenomenal battery life. I have it connected to wifi, and we can have the parent unit (that's the monitor, the part with the screen) unplugged all night and it wont drop more than a bar or two on the battery indicator. I have left it unplugged overnight and it still has half the battery left in the morning.
The picture quality is great. Really sharp, really clear, in both color and night vision mode.
Range is good off wifi, we can carry the parent unit to almost any corner of the house and it still sees it. While on wifi it's obviously practically unlimited, as long as both the camera and the parent unit are on the same wifi network.
Which leads me to the bad:
Does not work well with mesh wifi networks. Instead of seeing each node of a mesh as the same wifi network and moving seamlessly between each one, it sees every node as a unique and different network and requires you to enter the password for each one, even though the network ID and password are obviously the same (which is how a mesh network is designed to work--like one giant wifi signal). Oh, and the unit doesn't automatically switch to a stronger signal, so if you move to another part of the house that has a mesh node with a stronger signal, you have to manually switch to that new node. Which will have the same name as all the other nodes.
The speaker on the parent unit is very quiet. Even at full volume I often have to place the speaker of the baby unit right against my ear to hear whats going on in my baby's room. This is super frustrating, because it was not an issue with the previous version of this model.
The camera for every single VTech baby monitor I have owned has started to fail, and each in different ways. On this one the infrared lights are starting to fail, which results in the screen on the parent unit flashing from a normal picture to completely black constantly. Its incredibly annoying, and it makes watching our child difficult. Our previous camera is getting constant pixelation and lines on the video feed. Its like a graphics card that is start to fail on a computer (which I imagine is basically what's happening: the video chip on the camera is dying). I've had this unit for 9 months, and these camera issues started at least a month, ago, if not two, and the previous unit started to act up at around the same time.

The camera only stays connected for about 5 minutes before needing to be turned off and on again in order to reconnect. Unable to connect with WiFi and through the app as well. Unable to return as it’s past the return date. Don’t waste your money

Worst baby monitor I’ve ever purchased. Had nothing but trouble out of this unit. Constant connection issues. Do NOT buy this product. I will never buy another a VTech monitor again. Mine has flat out stopped connecting at all now.
