Floss regularly? Me neither, but this might help

We all know that brushing your teeth is essential maintenance - and every time I visit the dentist they remind me that flossing is just as important and should be part of your regular routine.
The reality is that while most of us have been shown how to brush our teeth properly from an early age, flossing is much more of a wildcard whether your using tape, one of those funky little plastic things - there doesn't seem to be a right or wrong way to floss.
I've always wondered what is the magic machine the dentist uses when I go for a cleaning that makes the tooth and gumline feel that extra deep-cleaned? I always assumed it was the medieval metal pick they use to scrape , until I thought I would try a water flosser for myself.
The good news is that this gets you pretty close to that just-cleaned feeling. The Waterpik is a compact little unit , that collapses to half size but really packs a punch when you turn it on.
If you've never used one before , the sensation can be a little bit like the first time you used an electric toothbrush - and I guarantee your first few attempts will have you spraying water over your bathroom mirror, spilling over the counter top until you get the hang of it.
The main unit is rechargeable over standard USB-C (they include the cable, but there IS NOT AN AC ADAPTER IN THE BOX) which is nice , because there are no cables dangling about while you figure out which of the 3 included 'heads' works the best for you. The battery seems to have lasted at least a couple of weeks at the time of writing so I'm assuming it'll have the same life was a regular electric toothbrush, depending on how often you use it.
The tips seem to be a mix of a straight 'stream' , one with a long brush and one with a short brush to help navigate and clean the gumline. As far as I can tell no one is better than the other so it will just come down to personal preference.
The good news is that once you've got used to how to use it, when to hang over the sink to let all the water leave your mouth - the end result is pretty impressive. I use it a couple of days a week along side my regular electric toothbrush and I can definitely notice a positive difference. Its pretty close to the dental cleaning without the medieval pick, and I am definitely making it part of the regular routine (which will no doubt make the dentist happy and reduce the impact of the formal cleaning appointments).
Which brings me to the one thing that prevents this water flosser getting a 5 star review.
When the dentist uses one of these , they are typically hard-wired to a water source so they can clean away for hours, asking you about the weather etc without interruption.
With this Waterpik variant, all of the water is held in the bottom half of the unit (in the clear section) , that you fill with warm water from the tap. Regardless of which power setting I use, this need refilling at least twice, maybe three times to get a full pass on my teeth and gums.
I can't really critique the unit operation, because it gives great results and is much easier to use that the regular floss tape, picks etc - however the repeated need to keep refilling it mid-use means that its just that little bit of a hassle that will make it a few days a week, rather than an every day operation.

The Waterpik Cordless Slide Water Flosser is my first water flosser, and what an introduction I got to this new style of flossing! I find it easier to use than a regular floss string, despite having to fill the device with water a couple of times during a flossing session. I think this device is perfect if you have trouble using the regular string floss, could be because your teeth separation is too much or your teeth are too close together. With its three level pressure settings, you can choose how deep/hard you want to clean but consider that in its highest pressure setting it could damage your gums if you are not careful. Definitely, it needs a few tries before starting to feel comfortable with water flossing. It is easy to operate, though.
My rating for this device is a 4 at this moment in time. I have a few things that I didn’t like at first, but then, as it is expected, after using it for some time I got used to them and I don’t see them as too much of an inconvenience.
- Pros: floss control on the handle, portable, space saving.
- Cons: gets a little messy.
> Using it <
The recommendation is to charge the Waterpik flosser for 4 hours before first use. I was not sure about this, since the device had some charge already, anyways, just followed what was stated in the booklet and waited 4 hours to use it (well I missed my first intended flossing.) Also, it is a good idea to read the booklet that comes in the package and use the QR code or web link to reach the Waterpik website where, although not specific to this product, some useful tips are provided (I got to the website after my first couple of tries water flossing.)
Anyways, if this is your first device, be careful! The first time you can really make a mess. I ended up hitting with the water stream the wall and mirror in the bathroom, and not to mention making a little bit of a mess over the countertop. I was taken off guard by the water stream, although it was low at first, and ended up with water everywhere. It takes several tries to get comfortable with water flossing.
A few observations after using it several times:
- I still create a little bit of a mess, so I carry a little towel or tissue to clean the parts of the countertop that get wet, as well as to clean the device itself.
- Water gets used too fast, so you’d go over a few refills per flossing session.
- Since it is recommended to use the Waterpik flosser for only for 5 minutes every 2 hours, then it looks more like a personal device than one to share with the family (of course each person with their own tips if sharing the device is a possibility.)
- It is still a little hard to reach the molars, but compared to regular string flossing, it is way easier to clean those hard-to-reach areas.
> Pressure settings <
It has three settings, low, medium, and high. I’ve found that the high setting will get basically most if not all the material in between your teeth, but I had to be careful not to apply the stream close to sensitive gum areas as it can do some damage.
One procedure I tried that got me feeling like my teeth were new, was to apply some string floss first, then brush my teeth, and finally use the Waterpik water floss (low and medium settings), and I got just perfect cleaned teeth! The last water flossing step did get rid of extra particles left behind. Very powerful indeed.
> Portability and compactness <
Portability is perhaps one of the most significant characteristics. The Waterpik flosser can be collapsed/compacted (or slid as it is labeled) so that it is very easy to carry around, at home or while traveling. Perhaps the only problematic thing is that no case or anything to hold the tips were provided, it would have helped a lot to have either one, as opposed to resorting to a plastic bag to place them. The original package could be used hold the device and the tips, but then we lose compactness.
The device takes little space in the bathroom countertop as it is very slim, which is great, but again, there is an issue with the tips, where to place them? I am using a cup for now.
Although its water capacity is lower than other bigger devices, such as the countertop version, I think this Waterpik flosser is more convenient to move around and to apply having the power button easily available. At first, I didn’t like having to refill the water to complete a flossing session, but after several days of use, I don’t really mind anymore, I prefer compactness and portability as something bulkier.

We’ve been using another water flosser for a while, and while it’s done a decent job, it was very bulky and took up a lot of real estate on our bathroom counter and lots of space in our toiletries bag when we went out of town. We were looking for something that did a great job but maybe wasn’t so bulky. This one fit that bill perfectly with one minor setback.
First, setup was easy. You get a USB-C to USB-A cable in the box. I love that it charges up using USB-C. I already carry a couple of those chargers for my other electronics. You do not get an actual wall charger, just the supplied cable. Again, luckily, we have many devices that use these types of cables, so I just grabbed one of the other wall adapters to plug it in to charge up. The rest of the setup is straightforward and you can start using it after the initial charging time, they recommend about 4 hours.
Use is very easy, if you have ever used a water flosser then you know what to expect here. You get 3 different tips to use depending on your dental history. You get great pressure and feel it doing its job immediately. My mouth feels very clean after I am done using it. The only minor thing is that you will more than likely need to refill the water reservoir in order to complete the full cleaning process, at least we do. This is that minor issue I mentioned at the start. I am guessing this is just a sacrifice for having a smaller travel friendly water flosser. I am ok with that, but others might have an issue with it.
Battery life has been great so far, we did the initial charge and have used it for about a week and have yet to have to recharge it. I love that it collapses down into a smaller package to easily pack up. The pressure, and extra flosser tips are great. I really appreciate that it charges with a USB-C cable and not some proprietary or micro-USB cable.

Compact Size, Very Effective Performance!

The new Waterpik Cordless Slide flosser is very well-made and will consistently deliver safe and effective cleaning/plaque removal for your teeth and irrigation/light massage of your gums. It has quality features which makes it one of the best oral care devices on the market.
Waterpik produces a wide range of oral health care devices and pulsating shower heads. It was founded in 1962 and since 2017 it has been a unit of Church & Dwight, best known for the Arm & Hammer brand. It is based in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Here are the relevant features and specifications:
• Waterpik Cordless Slide Water Flosser (Model: WF-16W010)
• Collapsible body (reduces height from 8.4” to 5.7”) saves space for travel
• Three flosser tips: classic jet (general use), plaque seeker (implants, crowns, retainers) and orthodonic (braces)
• Three pressure settings (gentle/normal/maximum clean)
• Splash-resistant design – can be used in the shower
• Powered by rechargeable 600 mAh lithium ion battery for up to four weeks of use on one 4 hour charge
• 40” USB-A to USB-C recharging cable included
• Ergonomic intelligently contoured design
• Very compact: 2.3” wide by 1.5” deep and 8.4” tall (5.7” tall when collapsed); Weight: 8.5 ounces
• Two year parts and labor warranty
When you open the box and unpack the unit you will be impressed by the solid feel and quality of construction. It has a nice ergonomic design, is lightweight and fits well in your hand. The design is attractive, with a winter white plastic body and non-slip surfaces where you hold it. It has an oval shape to match the natural curve of your hand, ensuring good control when you use it.
The unit comes fully charged. Just slide it open from the compact, closed position, fill it with water at the opening on the bottom, set the water pressure (gentle/normal/maximum clean) and insert the selected tip. Be sure to point the tip carefully into your mouth with your face pointing down into the sink or you will spray water all around your bathroom! With a little practice this becomes easy and the relatively short running time for each use (about 45 seconds) enables you to control the overspray issue.
After daily use, open the water port, remove the tip and let the unit air dry.
Since the usage is only about 45 seconds per session, one charge can last up to four weeks of daily use. If the battery is completely discharged it will take about 4 hours to fully recharge. An LED indicator on the unit indicates when a recharge is necessary. A generous 40 inch long USB-C charging cable is included with the water flosser, but you have to supply your own USB power cube/transformer.
The main body of the water flosser (which includes the rechargeable battery) is resistant to water, but not impervious, so do not immerse it in water. You can use flosser in the shower and it should not be adversely affected.
The three included tips are designed to accommodate normal teeth, crowns, implants, retainers and braces. You will want to experiment with each tip to determine which one works best for you. I found that using the water flosser before brushing was most effective. It cleared out any fine particles between my teeth and below the gum line. It also stimulated my gums very effectively. Following this with brushing and it felt like I had just had a professional cleaning.
Waterpik-sponsored research has established that the water flosser removes 99.9% of plaque. It is 50% more effective for gum health than string floss and two-to-three times more effective than string floss around implants and braces.
After use just collapse the unit and it takes up very little space on the bathroom countertop, in a drawer or on a shelf. The cordless operation is very useful in outlet-challenged bathrooms. The long battery life makes it convenient to take with you when you travel. But if it ever needs a recharge the USB-C cable can be plugged into any USB-A outlet (even your laptop!)
Given its very effective operation, compact size and cordless convenience, coupled with the quality assurance of the Waterpik name, I can give this great device a full five stars and my enthusiastic recommendation. This is a sturdy, top quality unit which will serve your oral care needs very well. You will not regret this purchase!

Decent Water Flosser but is it for you?

This is my first time using a water flosser, so this review is coming from a first-time user. I have always used a plastic floss pick to floss my teeth but I am trying to be more environmentally friendly so I decided to try this water flosser out for a change. After having used this for a couple of days now, here are my thoughts on the Waterpik cordless water flosser.
==========
IN THE BOX/HOW TO USE:
In the box, you get a cordless water flosser, 3 water flosser tips (each one is different), a travel plug adapter, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and a quick start guide. There isn’t too much of a learning curve in using a water flosser if you have never used one before, but the first time will be messy. I recommend leaning over the sink and start with the water flosser in your mouth. To start it, simply fill up the reservoir with warm water and press the start button. (there are three different pressure modes) I don’t recommend this for children though. They will find one way or another to hurt themselves.
==========
PROS:
Now for the question of whether you should replace your string or floss pick with the water flosser. I would say it depends. First, the good stuff. If you take a lot of time flossing your teeth like me and are looking to speed things up, I can attest to saying that this device will speed up your flossing routine. I also enjoyed how portable the water flosser was, it shouldn’t take up a lot of space in your luggage. Finally, having different options in water flosser tips is neat.
==========
CONS:
I did find a couple of annoyances with this product. First, Waterpik states on the box, the water flosser provides 45 seconds of water capacity. I did not get that much time at all during my testing. The water reservoir is tiny and the hole you use to fill with water isn’t the most effective in keeping it in since the water tends to run off to the sides. Another one is when you dump the water out of the reservoir, there seems to always be some water left over even if you let it air out. There may be some long terms nasty effects with the sitting water, but I guess time will tell. Finally, due to the size of the reservoir, I did find that I had to fill it up several times for optimal cleaning of my teeth.
==========
VERDICT:
Now to answer the question of whether the water flosser works better than traditional flossing methods. From testing the product out for the past couple of days, the water flosser tends to leave my teeth just as clean as traditional methods. Although, the water flosser does save me some time in my day. Do note that I have always taken my time flossing my teeth so that may be a reason why I concluded that both methods clean my teeth just as well.
Overall, this is a decent water flosser but for the price, I cannot recommend switching from traditional flossing methods to this water flosser. (this model at least) I did experience more challenges using this water flosser compared to using traditional flossing methods. This is my first water flosser, and I would certainly try another one out for comparison but for now, I’ll stick to using it to see how I feel in the long run.

We have two larger, more traditional models from Waterpik and use them regularly. Our one gripe across the entire household has been the fact that they are tethered to a base unit. It is small gripe, but a gripe nonetheless. Everything else about each of those units is great sans the fact you can't really move all that much. I'm not saying we want to dance or run around, but you go to stand up straight or turn and look at something next thing you know you're getting tugged by the base unit.
With the big obvious improvement/difference out of the way, let's proceed.
When not in use it collapses down to darn near half its size which makes on-the-go use much more doable than with previous editions. You still get 3 head attachment offerings as well as a charge cable (type C!!!) straight out of the box.
Function itself is great as with all Waterpik models. At this point they've proven that in this department they aren't going to let you down, it's merely up to you to use their products often enough to see the benefits. The one downside here (and not even enough to warrant removal of a star) is that if you have something really stuck or you are used to using previous Waterpiks on a really high setting, you likely aren't going to get the same oommmph out of this little guy. It is to be expected considering the lack of heft compared to their larger models but remember that this can also be viewed as a pro if you're older or have a condition that limits your strength and/or dexterity. Besides, I've always found the power settings beyond 75% on the aforementioned two other models we have to be way too powerful for regular use.
Aside from that, it's pretty straight forward. You can move around with it and it shoots water between your teeth. You can also brush thanks to the attachments. End of story.
100% recommendation, full price or otherwise.

I have a basic Waterpik flosser that I enjoy using, but I really wanted to try the Waterpik Cordless Slide because I’ve been traveling a lot more and wanted something more portable. The Slide fits the bill and more and in my opinion is a fantastic water flosser for travel and home use.
The Waterpik Slide may be the perfect water flosser. It’s compact but still holds enough water to get the job done for most people and has 3 power settings with multiple attachments. You’ll be able to quickly get into all those crevices in your teeth and this is a must-have for anyone with braces as well.
You’ll want to charge the Slide with the included USB-C cable for a couple of hours before you first use it, but after that, you should be ready to go. Battery life is estimated at about 2 weeks depending on usage so I’d say that’s pretty good. Just fill slide the water chamber out, fill it up with water, and snap in a head. I prefer the classic head, but some will like the soft-tipped head as well. Those with braces will definitely like the brush head attachments to really get in and around those brackets.
I suggest starting on the low setting but ended up preferring the medium power setting myself. I’m not sure who can handle the high setting, but I’m sure some people will love it or you might be able to use it to power wash small items around the house!
Overall the Waterpik is a fantastic portable water flosser with absolutely no downsides that I can see. As long as the unit holds up during its 2-year warranty period then I can’t help to recommend it to anyone looking for a great water flosser.

The Waterpik Cordless Slide Water Flosser is a compact rechargeable portable water flosser making it a great companion for traveling. The 'slide' feature collapses to about half of its size, making it reasonably compact for storage and travel. The unit is surprisingly quiet, and is shower safe.
For such a small device, it does a very good job as a water flosser. It will be great for traveling, but with its compact size expect to refill the water reservoir at least once during use. There are 3 water pressure settings and the water pressure is pretty strong. It would be nice if the lowest setting was a little gentler.
While it works very well, the Waterpik Slide Water Flosser not without flaws. The small filling hole makes it a bit messy to refill. It comes with 3 tips and a USB C cord for charging, but does not come with a USB charger. I also found it somewhat disappointing that a Waterpik designed for travel doesn't come with a container to hold the attachments, or a travel case for the appliance itself.

Impossible to clean

I love WaterPiks. Ever since braces in sixth grade, I have found them thorough at cleaning my teeth and gums, far superior (and less painful) than flossing, and downright fun to use. So I thought a true cordless travel model would be a perfect solution to business trips where I normally have to revert to string floss.
The first thing I noticed was the unwieldy shape of this unit out of the box. Of course it has to be fairly large to hold the water needed to run it. But there are no contours to make it comfortable to hold and use. It’s like holding a seltzer can and trying to flip and turn it with high pressure water shooting out of it. And you definitely have to contort to use it because the head does not turn at all.
The pressure is great! I’ll give it that. My gums feel clean, that feature is true to the WaterPik brand. I do have to refill the reservoir at least once to get all the way through a cleaning, but in the name of portability, I think that’s just the nature of it.
The most troubling thing is the lack of any way to get the reservoir dry between uses. The slide feature is not easy to plunge up and down, so you’re likely to just leave it extended most of the time. There is a hatch on the side to fill the water. No matter how long I left the hatch open and out of use, there is still water remaining in the reservoir. I guess maybe I could rig a q-tip and try to blot it dry inside, but that negates the convenience. I searched for how to clean it and WaterPik offers no guidance except for cleaning the tips. A company representative finally answered by saying to remove the reservoir completely and pointed to a video for guidance. The video is a short trailer of the product and shows nothing about removing the reservoir. As far as I and the rest of the Internet can tell, that Ike’s impossible and would compromise or completely break the gasket that seals the reservoir. (See photos).
I will not be continuing use because I do not want to shoot mold and bacteria at high pressure into my gum line. I gave two stars because the pressure clean is classic WaterPik and maybe a lot of people don’t care so much about mildew in their mouths. But I’d say this is a fail and needs to go back to design.

Hello Mer4343 - We're so sorry for the confusion. The video that was sent to you does in fact demonstrate how to remove the reservoir. You can find this portion of the video at the 18-second mark on the 1-minute 15-second video, where it says "Removeable reservoir for easy cleaning". Once the reservoir is removed you can either clean it with mild dish soap and warm water, or you can put it in the top rack of the dishwasher, just make sure you turn the heated dry cycle off. Additionally, it will not compromise or damage the product as the reservoir is designed to be removed to clean it. If you need further information, our team is here to help and can be reached at 1-800-525-2774.

It is probably unfair of me to only give this water pik foyr stars. It delivers on everything promised. It is powerful enough that you feel it does a good job. It is reasonably portable, if a little awkward to manipulate if you have smaller hands. And you can use it in the shower, which is a real benefit because what most people dont tell you if youve never used a water flosser is they are messy (be ready to drool). My only disappointment is the reservoir is a bit small, I generally need at least one refill for a full cleaning and that can be awkward when you're using it in the shower. Look, this product is about form factor and it does a good job, i just want people to be aware it does have some limitations that form factor brings.

I have the regular waterpik and I thought it would be need to have a portable one for traveling. I was attracted to the design that it's collapsible which would make it easier for traveling. However, the product failed to meet my expectations.
Pros:
- Collapsible
- USB C charging compatible, no need to bring an additional charger
- The accessories are all compatible with my other waterpik sets
- It came with all the essential accessories
Cons:
- The design is awkward to hold, not as ergonomical for my small hand
- The power button is a bit hard to operate
- Water stream is not as consistent and strong as I expected
- I am a bit weary about the metal spring being exposed to the water itself as much as it is probably safe
Overall, it's good if you really need it for traveling as it's compact and collapsible. It also uses the standard USB C for charging which comes handy. But for daily use, I would suggest the regular waterpik which is easier to operate and you can control the setting more.

I travel a lot with work and this is compact enough to fit in my travel bag, has a good assortment of tips and battery seems to last about 15-20 uses.
