The device is well put together great to manage a comfort to use and very efficient western digital is a very kind with their warranties and the holdings on how to help you if you have difficulties and sadly they cannot help you recover your dad if you lock yourself out with your password, so they are helping to accommodate, and they are very good to travel with

Perfect External Hard Drive For Wii U!

Worked perfectly with my Wii U! As Nintendo is closing the Wii U eShop and I wanted to download several large games before the closure, the Wii U's paltry 32 GB of internal storage wasn't gonna cut it. So I went with this external hard drive, as the Wii U requires external hard drives to use an external power source, not USB. It was pretty much plug-and-play, I just connected it to my Wii U via USB, plugged the hard drive into an outlet, and the Wii U recognized it and was able to format it. Note, the Wii U only will be able to format it for 2 terabytes of space, so the rest of the hard drive's storage will not be usable by the Wii U. You can regain this storage space by reformatting the hard drive with a different device. Anyway, I have been playing games on my Wii U through the external hard drive, and it works great! I would recommend this for Wii U owners who are looking to download content before the eShop closes in March 2023. Also, reminder that this hard drive will not work with Nintendo Switch, as the Nintendo Switch does not support external hard drives.

I bought this as an external frive for my ps4 due to the new firmware upgrade. The disk is fast and works perfect. I'm also using it for backing up my computer stuff and is great. I bought it when it was on sale and paid 92usd tax incl. It was a no brainer for 4Tb.

I bought this in anticipation of getting my Xbox One X. I had everything moved over and it worked great. I went with the WD Mybook because it has great read and write speeds for an affordable price. The 4TB drive provides ample space and loads games fast. This drive takes up a little more space and has to be plugged in but that's a small price to pay for the performance you get. I have used a 1TB Seagate portable drive but it wasn't as fast as this drive. Today's gaming file sizes are going to require that you have external storage at some point and I can definitely recommend this drive as a great gaming solution. It's really hard to beat for the price. I paid $104 for 4TB. That's a better price than the slim, portable drives and the performance is better So if you have the space and an outlet, get this drive for your gaming system. You won't be disappointed!

    Great Xbox One Drive

I tried lots of drives with my Xbox One. I built a few of my own. I built one with a 10K RPM heat generating noisy drive in it and it was... hot, noisy, and expensive. It also had problems with the Xbox One being able to control the chip in the enclosure properly. That cost over 300$ to build. I helped a friend put together an SSD enclosure for his and the performance was not at all what we had hoped for. I did some research and the Xbox One (in it's current state) does not take advantage of many USB 3.0 software based storage benefits like a computer OS would. You are going to hit a "soft cap" (to use a gamer's term) if you try to throw big speed and performance at this. The good news is, you don't need it. These drives work just great and you can throw storage space at it very efficiently. 1. This drive shows a slight performance increase over the internal storage. 2. This drive shows very little performance deficit compared the fancy drives i built and spent hundreds $$ on in the past. 3. This drive pairs great with the console when it comes to controlling the drive properly. 4. This drive produces very little heat or sound. 5. The storage space is HUGE. 6. This is a serious bargain comparing Gigabytes to Dollars. As long as the drive holds up like it has, I have nothing but praise for it. In my opinion, this is the best drive to expand the Xbox One on the market right now.

WD My Book 4TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive Black: This is the second of these hard drives I have purchased. Used for backup only - not constantly attached and running. External drives are pretty simple. Plug in the USB cable and, in this case, the external power supply and it's recognized by the system. Works equally well with newer and older (USB2) computers running various versions of Windows from 7 to 10. Two improvements I would welcome would be the addition of a power switch on the drive case and an activity light. Noise level is perfectly acceptable and my unit never gets particularly hot despite the lack of a cooling fan. I didn't install the included software so can't comment on it's usefulness.

I bought this hard drive to increase the game storage and capabilities of my new Xbox One S. This was on sale at Best Buy and while my initial research showed that another model might be better, I decided to go ahead with this purchase. I came home, plugged it in, and Xbox immediately recognized it and gave me the option to format as necessary. It has worked without a problem at all.

I purchased this one over the portable one by accident since it was almost the same price. I needed to get more space for the PS4 as Call of duty was now taking up what seemed like my entire internal hard drive and this seemed like a good deal. Got it for 90 bucks (portable was 95). Honestly hated it when I saw it at first because of how massive it was and the fact that you had to connect a separate power adapter, more space, and more cords ??? After connecting though I changed my mind and very happy with it. it has an internal fan to keep it cool which helps constant usage as you can play your games directly on it without having to move storage. it was a very easy setup, just plugged it into the PS4 and added it as extended memory, didn't have to do anything else. the system just started using it as it was connected to the main memory. Never have to delete games again with the 4TB memory. It also looks like it matched with the PS4 and not a third party product. if you need it for a laptop just get the portable version, it's the size of a wallet and still works great. for those also using it for video games, this will not work on PS5 as that will require a solid-state drive that they approve at a later time.

I have had this for a little more than two and a half years now and I haven't had any real issues since I've had it. I thought I had lost it at one time when it wouldn't come on and thought I'd have to find a way to repair it. Fortunately for me, it's wasn't the drive that was dead, but the surge protector that had it plugged into had some dead plugs after a storm and I had a power outage. It's back after getting a new surge protector and plugging into the new one and would definitely consider buying another one, if not a larger one.

Buy it - Not hot, no encryption, Single Drive mode

This review is about the SINGLE DRIVE 8TB version of the WD MyBook. Green & white cardboard box, black plastic drive case. No Encryption. Go ahead & buy it, it is ok. :-) SPEED: The drive is faster than I expected. It took about 1 day to copy 5.14 TB to it via USB 3. Those were mostly music files 3MB to 60mb plus some videos. I did not time it or watch it closely. You can easily play movies or music from this drive without skipping. HEAT: the drive did NOT get hot. Not even very warm while chugging away for almost a whole day relentlessly copying over 5 TB of data. The drive has vents on the 2 ends. You are supposed to put the vent side up, so the heat can exit. That means the drive will be standing on end, which is probably not how you were going to place it. There are rubber feet on the other end. I suspect that the people who said this drive runs hot did not stand the drive up as intended. You can not stack these drives, but you could stand several next to each other. ENCRYPTION: There is NONE. That is GREAT news. I had heard that the drive was married to the case by hardware encryption. Without getting in to the reasons why that is a terrible idea, I'll just say that we don't have to talk about encryption here, because there is isn't any and that is fine. Before doing anything else, we reformatted as HFS+ for Mac, then copied over 5 TB of data. I can tell you that if you remove the drive from the plastic case and pop it into a SATA "toaster" or other external sata case it works. The data is still there and useful. Yay! There are a lot of reviews saying that the drive will not work if removed from the case (unless reformatted), but I'm telling you it does work & all data is preserved. Maybe they did not reformat before starting a or maybe they have the dual-drive raid version. This means that if the case ever fails, you CAN put the drive into a different case & run with it as is. Great news! NOISE: there is some vibration when the drive is running. A very low hum. It may or may not bother you There is no fan. The case has rubber mounts & rubber feet which help dampen the vibration. There is some minor vibration while running in the factory case, and also when running in a NewerTech "toaster". Neither vibrations are objectionable unless maybe you are in a recording studio. CONNECTOR: USB 3 micro B. Just one. POWER ADAPTER: is rated at 12v dc 1.5 A. Does not block multiple outlets in use, but it does protrude to the side. There may be a ferrite bead around the cord, near the end. WHATS INSIDE THE PACKAGE: The drive, a warranty statement, USB to USB 3 micro b cable and power cable. Some packaging and a Need Help? card directing you to support.wd.com/contact No software is included, unless it was on the drive, which came formatted as ExFAT, but we reformatted it to HFS+ which is normal for Mac. NO ACTIVITY LIGHT: I can hardly believe WD cheaped out by not providing an activity light. Weird, I wish it had one, but for the price/performance I'm not going to change my rating. NO POWER SWITCH. No big deal. There is a wall-wart which isn't that bad. Does not hog more than 1 power outlet. WHAT"S INSIDE the case: a single 8 TB WD drive (128MB cache) and a small triangular SATA to USB 3 board. (opening the plastic case is tricky! See how to on youtube & make sure you are looking at late 2016 or after. the case tabs are U shaped, pointing back at you. Very unusual & you are certain to break some tabs off. There are 3 tabs on one side, and 2 tabs on the other side of the same end. The feet end does not have actual tabs. Several credit cards, then Torx 10 and Phillips 2). Drive has a large white sticker. Model WD80EZZX. Rated at 5V 440mA, 12V 550mA DC. No jumper pins and no place for them. The bare drive feels pretty heavy compared to lower capacity drives. No software was included unless it was on the disk, which we ignored and reformatted for Mac. All in all, I'm happy with this drive so far. At current price it is a real value and seems faster than a 'back up drive'. I'll update this review if my opinion changes, but this 8TB single drive is a Buy.

This WD MyBook 4Tb external USB drive is plug and play. I use it with Acronis 2018 for backing-up a Dell XPS13 portable, so I did not/do not use the WD backup software that comes with the drive. It is a quiet drive, which is great, except that, unlike the previous MyBook drive that this one replaced, this one does not have a visible drive-activity light, which makes it difficult to know when the drive is actively receiving data. The lack of a drive light is problematic when you want to power down, and that's why I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars.

While this is half the size (in TB) as the excellent 8TB units, if the price is right then it's a good buy. While there are 4TB true portable units that get power through the USB3 cable, I'd steer clear of them; better to have power from a wall wart (which can be replaced if necessary without a problem). The 2.5" 4TB units aren't quite a mature enough technology yet. This 3.5", however, certainly is. As I was using this on a Mac, it was a simple matter to use Disk Utility to erase the drive as HFS+/GUID (in place of the NTFS format it shipped with for Windows). That's right; you don't need a specific unit for Mac use. Just format it properly and you're good to go.
