Best external drive, speed and usability...

I can not say enough. I bought this drive and am very happy. It performs very well and without issue. The speed is comparable to having the drives internal to my pc. Never have I found that. I get the same speed regardless of the connector or cable I have used. It is roughly 200MB/s. The USB hub feature works great. Just remember to have the main drive recognized before you connect your external drives. The software, everything is top notch. Came with two RED NAS drives with the 256MB cache made in Thailand. It is a newer RAID software so it did not accept a WD RAID built in another WD device. That was not expected.

Works as expected and WD honors warranty

I bought this to replace a pair of 6TB drives that I had been manually keeping synced. Seemed better to have a mirrored drive and more space at the same time. Now I have one cable and one power supply. I haven't had this unit long enough to truly rate it. However, this is my 2nd one of these. I bought one a year previously. I use this first one as my media drive. After 10 months it reported that one of the drives had failed. As a mirrored unit, it continued to work with no loss of data. But I had no clue which drive had failed. The WD Drive Utility would not tell me and WD Support told me it was supposed to, After too much time on the phone with the helpful Support person, he decided I should return the drive. I backed it up, shipped it to WD, and received a "new" refurbished one in return. I give these drives a good rating since I lost no data and WD honored their warranty. I also like that the WD Drive Utility provides so much more information that you can normally get for an external drive on with MacOS.

Tons of storage but not quiet

This large drive dies offer lots of storage and the downloadable software allows great options for back-up and drive synchronization. The 2 additional USB ports on the back Allow for even more redundancy if you decide not not oration the drive and use a raid array. The only down side it the noise. Not so much that is a distraction with quiet music playing but it is noticeable when the drive is being accessed.

    Constant I/O errors

When attached to my iMac, the drive throws errors frequently throughout the day hence rendering it unusable for any practical purpose. When diagnostics are run they come up clean. I have reconfigured it several times trying RAID 1 first and then RAID 0 with no luck (should have read reviews prior to purchasing). Manufacturer return policy is not easy to deal with. Not sure I'm going to bother as others seem to have reported getting replacements which were refurbs and had the same problem. Seems to be more of a software issue than a hardware issue. I suppose I'll use it as a $600.00 paperweight. Just to be clear - none of this falls on Best Buy. WD needs to resolve the problems with this particular model. Their other drives seem to work well.

It's an external hard drive and does what it is supposed too. This is my 3rd one and it works great. The first two where of the older design. The first thing I did was change the configuration to RAID 0 so I have 8TB mirrored instead of 16TB striped. This gives me data protection without having to run a separate data backup process. Data transfer is fast and they have been very reliable. They are on 24X7 and I have not had any issues since purchase a couple years ago.

After years of dealing with multiple external hard drives to back up 7 TB of data (plus, more hard drives to backup my backup), I love the RAID system! 1) My Book duo gives me the storage capacity I need with fewer cords and less required plugin space than multiple external hard drives. 2) The ability to set up a "mirror" effect so the second hard drive automatically backups the first hard drive is pure genius, thanks to the RAID system. 3) If one hard drive dies, I can remove it and install a new drive. 4) Plus, this system seems to transfer data faster than the 8TB or 10TB external drives I used in the past. All in all, I'm a happy camper :)

    Great Backup Drive

I bought this as a backup drive. When it is formatted in RAID 1, there is about 7.5TB of space. For me that is plenty. In terms of value, most people will want to stick to a lower capacity version unless they absolutely need all of the space.

If you need lots of storage or solid direct attached backup solution this is it. Can be set as RAID 0 or 1. It’s data transfer rate is significant with a USB-C interface.

Works well once going, but after reboot of the computer, the drive is not reconized by the system until I unplug the drive from power, wait awhile, and power it up again after the computer is fully booted up first. Does not work to just unplug usb cable and an plug back in. Drive itself has to be restarted to work. Not a huge thing for me since my computer is mostly running all the time. Otherwise, works well once recognized. A ton of storage space.

It works just fine. The setup process took a bit longer than I expected. It doesn't come with a booklet and you have to go online to follow the setup process. With the MAC it worked out, i just think the setup steps should be more clear.

This is a great little backup drive. You can setup the drive in different ways Raid0(16TB no fault) Raid1 (8TB with a spare 8TB as a backup) or JBOD (2 different 8TB drives)
