This a replacement for my older WD cloud that I have almost 10 years old. I chose this 6 TB because I believed would be enough to store my family's personal files. That includes photos, videos and other stuff worthy for keeping. I liked this newer unit because it's way faster to access than the older one that I have which is slower but still keeping up saving automatically. Until now still working so I assumed this WD 6TB would last for at least 10 years as well like my older one. WD's cloud storage really durable so I am a repeat customer. The only thing that I never figured out yet with this newer one is how it save because I have 3 phones on same account. The older one saved everytime on the specific name I created. This new 6TB it mixes everything old and new files and I don't know now to have it sorted. I don't see any options there, only the modified date. Overall I like it, hopefully it will be there if WD send an update for their software.

The device appears to be of good quality, but of course that is what I thought about the My Book Live I purchased several years ago and did until WD let current customer of that product know to stop using it as a NAS due to their security vulnerability. I was not impressed with their handling that debacle, but I had used Seagate and Buffalo in the past and vowed not to buy them again. (Yes, I am a tough customer to keep happy) As for the WD - My Cloud Home 6TB, I got it up and running but don't give them high marks for their installation instructions. It is solely my many years of experience that led me to pick my way through the different sets of online manuals to figure out how to make the NAS drive visible on Windows Explorer. Turns out you MUST install the PC version of their app and then magically it appears in WE when you reboot. If those specific instructions were actually to be found somewhere in their docs, they need to work on making it a little easier to find out how to do that. I am not a fan or their web interface. I am not a fan of their approach to sharing folders. I had to buy this full price from BB as WD's response time in assisting customers of their My Live product was way too slow in getting around to providing an acceptable solution (which was a 40% discount off the purchase of a limited number of new WD products). Originally they expected customers to return the My Live before getting their discount code. When I pointed out that I had not yet lost my data (as many WD customers had), I pointed out that I needed to get my 4 TB of data off the old NAS before I was willing to send it to them and to do that I needed a new NAS. I did not have enough 3.5 inch floppy disks :-). Eventually they were willing to give me the discount before sending in the old one. It took too long. I had already bought the My Cloud in this review. I am hopeful WD does a lessons learned from the My Book experience and sets a better strategy going forward. I am also hopeful that some years from now another security issue does not pop up that leads WD to the thought that current customers need to buy a new NAS. Oh, BTW..... hang on to an old laptop (as I did) which has an ethernet port so you can direct connect the NAS to a computer should you need to remove it from the network modem due to security issues. Most new laptops don't see the need to have an ethernet port (can't blame them). A USB to ethernet converter was useless, so a functioning ethernet port was the only workable solution. It was lucky my IT support guy (thad be me) was able to figure all this out.

I have two My Cloud Home drives. They are great for network storage that you need to access from PCs, Macs and mobile devices. However, they are not truly NAS drives. Meaning that they are very locked down. Most expensive NAS drives run on an OS that allows you to install media servers, networks monitoring tools, and other fancy option. The MyCloud Home drives allow you to install Plex, but Plex is a fairly terrible option because it relies on the cloud to work. Which means you have to use a cloud service to access a cloud media server that accesses the files on your MyCloud. I have also had mixed results with accessing the Plex files from devices that aren’t Windows or Mac based (i.e. Oculus Quest). In summary, the MyCloud Home drives are a lot of good reliable network storage for the money, but they aren’t a true NAS setup.

This item was very easy to setup and begin using. Swell performance and storage capacity for the price. The unit is also nice and compact, does not take up much space.

It’s not as effective as a true NAS (Network Attached Storage) system that usually allow for 2 or more hard drives to offer more capacity or redundancy. I am a hobbyist photographer so I do a combo of things to protect my photo collection. I archive my photos on multiple hard drives, a couple of NAS devices, cloud storage and this WD Cloud Drive. This drive works nicely over WiFi and I can view the RAW files in their app before downloading select files. It’s great to be able to remotely access photos and download them to my phone or tablet where I can do quick and simple edits that don’t require my laptop/desktop with Photoshop. I don’t take as many photos as pro photographers (especially during the pandemic), so I have been able to store nearly six years worth of photos in RAW file format on this drive.

if you are looking for something that is just plug and play, this drive is for you. However, this drive is not an upgrade from WD mycloud drive. this drive is totally internet base, so you must have an internet connection to use it... the mycloud years ago you could access over your LAN. this drive requires you to sign in at www.mycloud.com/hello in order to use it. The desk top app allows you to bypass the login using the internet, however I've been have problems getting that to work.

I bought this to retire my apple time capsule, hoping its transfer speed is better than the old stuff discontinued by apple. Actually, I got the same speed as the old time capsule, which makes me to take one star off. Other than that, I found the backup of photos from Iphone is very helpful and convenient. HDD makes a little more noise than apple time capsule. I made a cushion under the bottom of it to reduce the noise. PLEX is very good. I can see my video even out of home now.

At first, I was a little confused how to set up this device because I was expecting to install it like an older My Cloud 6T personal cloud that I have. But once I realized I had to use the mobile app for set-up, I was golden. As for copying, storing and backing up my files, including those on my phone, I'm very pleased with the ease of use.

Works fine for what I bough it for, which is to back up my DVD's to Plex. The speed is perfectly fine for streaming, but is very slow when backing things up, which was expected. I also have a 4 TB version of the original WD Cloud that I have had for over 5 years that is still working fine.

Very easy to setup and use. Only item I wish it had was a shared family space for mobile connections. Can be accomplished through the sharing option but wish it could be just a joint/family nas via mobile devices like it can be used by lan machines. The default shared space does not appear to be accessible via mobile devices, could be user error but couldn’t figure it out.

Great product, works as intended, a few nice features. Mycloud is for those that don't need the extra features and just want a device that works seamless to back up your phone or computer data. The price is also attractive. Lacks some speed but good enough for the everyday person who is not a tech nerd.

It’s easy to use. USB transfer and network transfers, but it’s really slow. The interface is pretty easy and desktop like. It would be nice if there were more obvious ways to dump duplicates and organize my files. I do think there are features I will discover that will help Re-sort my imported data, but nothing jumped out at me initially.

It seems to be doing its job, but it is so noisy I can hear it in the adjacent rooms. It sounds like someone is typing on a typewriter really fast. It makes me want to turn it off, but I like that it backs up just the folders I tell it to.

Take 30 min. to set up. It's your personal back up drive, while it's function is really rely to the internet speed. It took me overnight to back up what i originally stored in a 2TB harddrive. It's nice if they can provide the USB for direct connection to my old harddrive/laptop.

The drive isn't very fast, but had lots of storage. The real problem came a few months after purchase - Western digital started making updates that broke the network settings and their online sign in didn't work, cutting me off from my files. It has happened several times since then getting harder and harder to connect each time. It shouldn't be that hard to stick a drive on my network and access files.

Excellent product. Easy set-up, and use. The web based URL access and desktop app make it very useful. Would like to see this come with some sort of software that would enable editing native MS programs in the cloud instead of downloading, working on it, reuploading to cloud.
