WD has outage for 7 days, i can't access my data. apparently you cant connect it to laptop through USB. you need internet & WD site to be up & running else you cant connect to this device.
I heard they are coming with some back door process, but that wont serve the purpose as IOS app & backup won't be working. The entire purpose was to get rid of apple cloud monthly $40 for me & wife.
Which at this moment looks better option .
I am done, I even d/c my apple cloud wiped everything & put on this device & now its not accessible
They always find ways to xxx you.
I wish I had used the $500 bucks to extend my apple cloud space.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS.
As of July 1st 2023, Western Digital has crippled all functionality that made this product. Features such as mapping as local network drive do not work. The Plex server, which was obfuscated by their lack of support, stopped working.
From their website, "WD is focused on providing exceptional customer experiences with our products. With that focus, from time to time we retire legacy software products that are no longer consistent with the company’s customer experience ecosystem."
"What does "no longer supported" mean?
WD Discovery will no longer support My Cloud Home devices. There will also no longer be any new releases or security updates for My Cloud Home on WD Discovery. We will discontinue all development, including critical security updates and technical support. As new versions of operating systems are released, these features might stop working and will not be fixed. WD Discovery will continue to function and be supported for other compatible WD storage products."
I simply do not know this is even legal. It is forcibly obsolete and still being sold as a new device. Avoid this and in my opinion, Western Digital entirely. Criminal!

After several hard drive failures, I decided that a back up unit would be a good idea. This was simple to hook up and easy to use. I think evry one should use one of these.

My old WD MyCloud filled up, so I bought another. I was unaware that I could have two on my network at the same time. In case one dies, I have all of my data backed up and accessible to everything on my network. These are durable units, but anything can fail, so you need to back up everything. They are really easy to use and you don't need to be a tech wiz to use it.

Great Storage Device for Important Files

By following the instructions, I had this device up and running in under 30 minutes. After configuring my Samsung Note 10, all of my photos and videos were backed up onto the drive and subsequent photos and videos automatically appeared on the drive as well. Next, I backed up all of my Hi Res audio files from HD Tracks for easy retrieval from the drive to my stereo system and I'm more confident with the mirrored storage of the My Cloud device. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for an easy to setup storage solution.

I bought this as a larger backup to my 4TG personal cloud SeaGate, and when I plugged it in, it makes a clicking noise. I thought it would go away, and it is really annoying. My Seagate is very quiet. I cannot deal with the clicking and cannot put it anyway else in the basement becuase it has to plug into my router.

Before I bought this item, I was renting cloud service for around $200 a year (and up). This is a great buy! It is not only much faster and more reliable than renting cloud service through a website, but it is also much cheaper in the long run.

It was very noisy the first few days I had it hooked up. The disk mechanically spinning around. It seems to found it's groove and is not that bad any more. I can access the drive when I need it. I have to assume it is actually mirroring to the other drive via RAID-1. I can't access it to check.

This cloud is great for storing your important photos or documents but it is not user friendly. I have not been able to map it to my MacBook Pro and that is a disappointment. I had an older WD cloud that mapped very easy but it died after 6 years of good use.

Can't give it 5 stars because when using the app on a tablet the images are in low resolution so you cant view them properly. To do that you have to use the website which isn't nearly as convenient.

Apparently WD stopped allowing this to work with the app that allows automatic backups between computers. So now I’m struggling to find software that will do that. WD refers you to a program you have to pay for. Maybe drop $100 off the price of this to make that idea more reasonable. The plus side is I can use this across my network from my phone or computer remotely.

Great reviews, great product summary but it would not hook-up to my router so not such a good product. I returned it, without a hassle, so thank you, Best Buy for that.

I had this running in 10 minutes. I have only been using it a couple of days so far so good. All 16 devices recognize the storage and read /write to it. I'm the only one using the storage, can't speak to multi users.

Great way to have a personal cloud and be able to access files from anywhere! Seems to be good for storing long term files that you won't need to touch for awhile and helps create more space for your computer. Love that there are backup drives in case anything fails. My wifi is slow at home so it takes a little more time to upload big files, but if you have faster wifi, it shouldn't be a problem!
