This product did not meet the needs that I had for it. If you want something that you can just plug in and use this should work for you. I needed to connect a raspberry Pi to this, but you are not able to connect to this NAS without using WD's software(which isn't available for raspberry pi). There is no way to just use a username and password to access the data on this NAS. I ended up returning this product so that I could purchase something that is a bit more robust.

Nice for backups and sharing but not for streaming

I bought this with the intention of storing digital movie files (legally) and streaming them to Plex on the same home network. WD + Plex make it ridiculously easy to set this all up. However, despite some users saying that their WD NAS could keep up with streaming and transcoding, mine could not. I tried a few settings and nothing worked; it took too long to load up the movie and start playing it. I WOULD NOT recommend this as a media server. I WOULD definitely recommend this for storage outside of media streaming. Set up is super nice and easy. Cost per GB is good. Software, sharing, and the interface is user friendly.

My biggest problem with this is that it tries to force you into having Western Digital software all over the place. Want to install the desktop app? You have to install the mobile app first!!! Want to install the backup software, you have to install the discovery app first!!! and so on. It's unnecessary and intrusive. Even saying no to sharing your usage data pops up another prompt saying "are you sure" with confusing button colors. Then there is the ability to "wirelessly back up and sync all your PC and Mac computers" - nonsense. At least not if you aren't a computer expert in the first place. Their backup software didn't even discover the drive. It's mapped as a network drive and the built in windows backup is happily using it, but not WDs own software. I ripped out all the WD stuff and use it as a NAS. If you don't know what that means don't bother buying this. If you do then it's a cheap NAS with a default RAID1 configuration. So I've given it two stars for that use alone.

I love this... it was a bit of a learning curve for me to set up but once I got it the system works great. I have already stored 24,000 photos on it.

Simple, Fast and Reliable about sums it up. I was looking for a back-up to replace my 1 TB USB drive to back up my personal and small business files and create my own cloud. I have the 8 TB Home Duo, giving me 4TB capacity. I found it very easy to set up. Hook up an ethernet cable and plug it in to a power source. I was able to back up over 3,000 photos from my I Phone easily and quickly. Also backed up all photos on my I Pad, and 2 PC Computers. Was also able to download entire C drives from my HP and Surface laptops, all documents for both personal and business and all the files from my One Drive with ease. The best part is that it automatically backs up photos automatically. If I add new photos to my camera roll they are automatically backed up on My Cloud. I can access all of the files from any of my devices, from anywhere there is a WiFi signal. This probably isn't for the serious techy that likes to touch, feel and massage their data. But if you want a relatively simple, easy to use and reliable back up system, I would recommend giving the My Cloud system a try.

    Just shy of perfect!

I bought this so I could stream movies and have piece of mind that they're backed up between the two drives in the device. The default is raid 1 (mirrored) so I didn't need to configure it for that. I wouldn't want to go through the process of ripping my Blu-Ray collection again. You can set it up to use the full 8TB, but then if a drive goes bad all of it goes bad. The device itself cannot really do the streaming for you so you'll want to map the drive on your computer and then use the PLEX server software. It'll work perfectly then. If I had to give a downside is that you'll only really get 3.5TB useable instead of something a lot closer to 4TB as was expected. I knew they'd be overhead, but that still takes away about 200-300GB of space that I cannot account for and haven't tried to figure out. Not exactly sure what the space is being used for. Surely the raid software doesn't take nearly that much space and the device itself doesn't provide a whole lot of software to write home about. It's rather minimal, though that's fine. Just doesn't compute as to where the space went. Just remember not to buy this thinking it'll work like an external hard-drive. That's not at all what its for.

Love the MyCloud Home. Yes it isn't the same as a true NAS experience as the MyCloud. But for the Non_techy people in the house it's perfect... set it and forget it! Gonna buy a second because its also perfect as a plex server!

While functional I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of standard NAS functionality such as ability to define individual user permissions or multiple authentication ids if had it to do again probably would not buy the “home” product.

    Can't download non-native files! What!!!?

I was really liking this device, seem solid, compact size. I like that the files are backed up on the other drive.....BUT! You can not download non-native files to mobile devices or tablets. So anything that didn't originate from your device, you cannot download! So if you have stuff from a computer, or stuff from different devices, then you cannot download them with the app! This defeats the reason for getting this cloud! I need to access my files from several different devices and platforms. I have used online clouds, and have several other hard drives, and this has never been an issue. I was going to return it, but apparently it's too late now (by a few days) so I'm stuck with it! People need to know this up front! After spending quite a bit of time with customer service, I finally was directed to this page which states: "Important: Saving non native content is not supported (IE: pdf,mp3,xdoc,xppt, etc..) Saving to a location other than the Camera Roll on iOS and Photo Gallery on Android is not supported As shown below, unsupported content will not have the "Save To" option displayed in the menu list" The App developers need to get on the ball with this! It's unheard of! PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE!!!!

Our old Apple Airport Time Capsule finally bit the dust. I was looking for something that would easily work with Apple Time Machine backups. The WD My Cloud Home Duo was extremely easy to setup and, with dual drives, it provides us with the confidence of a very reliable backup device. I highly recommend it!

It probably is a great product, but it is not 100% compatible with Apple MAC IOS 11.1, Big Sur. So after messing with it for a couple of days, had to return it, since there was no ETA from WD on when it would work with Big Sur. It seemed to work with Windows 10.

Already have the single My Cloud and really like it. We bought this one for automatic mirror option but you cannot see the other drive to know it is backing it up. Also all the devices on our network would not recognize this device. Guess you cannot have two of them running at the same time.

I’m not sure how I ever got along without this device! I’m a photographer, and need to be able to access my images across multiple devices, and this allows me to do just that! All the while keeping everything backed up on the second drive. (Mirror mode) I’ve been using the my cloud home duo for a little over 6 months now, and I couldn’t recommend it enough!

Be aware, it syncs folders and files, it does not function as a backup. Think about what your needs are. It also will not accept the DESKTOP folder per se, you need to enter the desktop sub folders individually. The operation is automatic and smooth in the background. The setup is not difficult,
