I purchased this as a way to store several of my files in one place and so I could easily access them. So far I've only encountered two potential issues. The first one is that each of the two drives are 3TB for a total of 6TB instead of two 6TB drives. If you run the drives as a RAID MIRROR then you'll only be able to use 3TB total. The second issue is the fact that I attempted to change the IP address for the drive and it subsequently caused other issues. Because of this, I reset the drive and left it as a dynamic IP instead of static.

Rough logistics, but some nice features

I purchased this because online reviews mentioned having UI friendly assistance for non-advanced users and my spouse needs easy backup features or otherwise the data will never be backed up (and then it doesn't get deleted because she doesn't trust the back up, which why i decided to go with the Mirror model so there are two copies of everything.) It took me weeks to finally get all my old data backups up on this drive. My tech is a few years old (Mac OS 10.7.5) and almost all the recommended software was not available. I could not just drag and drop large quantities of files or folders without there being problems so files and small folder sets were transferred individually.. The browser UI is really slow and it is difficult to figure out the real status with the device. For example, the LEDs will say everything is fine but it will not be reachable. This has stand-by mode, but never seems to wake up from it properly if at all so I have to unplug it sometimes. It got worse once by unplugging the power and plugging it back on to make it reachable and then automatic rebuilding occurred and slowed everything down to a halt for days. However, once I did get the backups over, and hooked up automatic backups with the cells phones, it was neat to be able to see each other pictures show up for central access via the My Cloud app. TimeMachine appears to work well as long as the drives stay up and reachable. The fans pretty much consistently run, and are loud, unless it is turned off/stand-by mode. I am crossing my fingers that when my tech is upgraded the newer software for this will be much better and fix some of my useability problems.

I look forward to accessing this device from the internet. But I have had some problems with installing the Quickbooks database, and getting my iTunes to reside there. It is important that I can use Apple TV to listen to my music, so this is a bit of a challenge. I am not quite finished with the installation yet.

I replaced an old Dlink NAS that was full with this new NAS. It was easy to setup and get going. Basically took it out of the box got it hooked up per the directions and began to copy my old NAS to this one. It runs extremely quiet and is in a closet with other network devices. My backups are scheduled and so far no issues. I upgraded from 320GB NAS to this one so I should be good for a while if the drives hold up.

It was exactly what I wanted, however I found it would leave my network too vulnerable, so I had to return it.

    Difficult Set Up / Unreliable

I had high hopes for this personal cloud server, however, it proved very difficult to set up on my home network. After multiple calls to WD (Tech support was poor) and Verizon it was eventually discovered that I needed to open up the correct port forwarding on my router... This finally did the trick, but once the unit was accessible from my other devices, the synching proved to be spotty and inconsistent. Some folders had the correct contents while others were "empty". As an external mirrored hard drive on a home network it seems to work fine but I would not recommend it as a cloud based NAS drive solution.

I took this out of the box and plugged it up and within minutes it was on my network and I was transferring my data from my old NAS system to this new one. I was out of space and needed the upgrade. Has been plugged up for weeks and working great. No issues or problems. Easy accessible from all my computers on the network. I'm glad I purchased this NAS.

I am struggling linking all my files and photos to this device and I am unable to figure out how to utilize it well between both my Mac and IBM, which is why I bought is. I thought it would be a little more user friendly, but frankly I am not sure it was the best buy for me. I still have hope but am struggling giving it a higher rating right now. I would have send it back before the two weeks trial was up, but I just had surgery this week and just haven't had time. I still hoping I can figure it out. Also, it takes forever to download all my files onto it, that I have yet to do so because my computer keeps going into hibernation and then it looses where it was downloading. so needless to say I'm frustrated and I've always been a huge WD external hardrive fan.

support is horrible - instead of helping they hang up on you. Took me a month to figure out that this product wouldn't do what it was purchased to do. Now I can't return it! The software for this product looks and behaves as if it was written in the 80s! Very poor - don't do it!
