Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the excellent convection cooking and ease of use of this over-the-range microwave. Many appreciate its quiet operation, attractive design, and the helpful sensor cooking feature. However, some users mention concerns about the sturdiness of the door and find the control panel somewhat challenging to navigate. The microwave's weight and the keypad's functionality are also mentioned as areas needing improvement.

    So Far, So Good

So far, so good, I am enjoying this convection microwave. This is my second convection microwave. This one is much quieter, and the exhaust works even better. I love that it sends me a notification to my Apple Watch that lets me know when the cycle is complete as I can’t hear the microwave from other rooms like the previous model. The interior is easier to clean, and I love the steam function. The steaming basket was an accessory that came with the microwave. My favorite thing to cook using the convection oven and microwave simultaneously are sweet potatoes. They turn out well carmelized and sugary sweet after an hour. My only peeve is to do multi step cooking is not as intuitive as my previous model which only required the same one button being pressed. However, the plus side to this new system is that I can add a third stage which I couldn’t do before.

    Door broke

After year and a half door broke with plastic pieces falling off of inside of the door. We can not use the Microwave since keypad errors out now and Microwave is sensing that door is open even when it is closed. Whrilpool was adamant about sending a service man for just diagnosis, which most definitely cost half the price of new door for just looking at it. Door itself is half the price of the microwave (you do the math). I am baffled by the cheap parts used in this product and whirlpool is not standing behind there product. It only came with 1 year limited manufacture warranty and I guess microwave is useless after little over an year. I advice everyone to either get extended warranty from Best buy for this product or stay away from Whirlpool.

    Looks Cool, Works Great

We've only had this OTR Microwave for a month, but so far, all is well. It is incredibly quiet when running...quieter than any other microwave I've ever heard!! This unit replace a high-end Samsung that died after about 8 years....which itself was a replacement to an earlier high-end Whirlpool, that was a service nightmare. We are hoping that Whirlpool learned a lot in the last 8 years, and have built a much more reliable unit. So far, along with being quiet, it cooks quickly and accurately (specifically with the sense capability). We've also noticed its defrost feature is extremely good. We tossed in a pound and a half of totally frozen ground turkey (defrost\meat\by weight), and it came out perfectly defrosted, with no partially cooked/brown edges, which is typical in this scenario. We've used the convection feature a few times, and it performed as it should. After doing a lot of research on similar products, this Whirlpool is in a class by itself. Pretty much every other make/model that we reviewed did not have all of the features of this model (just finding one with convection is tough, these days), or was smaller in size (others maxing out at 1.7 Cu Ft.). Along with all of the cooking features on this microwave, one of the huge draws for us was the clean, no handle front. Although this model may be a bit two square in design for some people, it fits perfectly with our Dacor range, which has totally straight lines as well. ...and no, I did not get paid for this review.

Our family is enjoying this microwave and also the convenience of the convection. We made some cinnamon rolls on a plate that were perfect and we didn’t have to use the stove and just a plate that was simple to clean. I like that it does not have a handle, last microwave we had the door handle broke.

I purchased this to replace the microwave that came with my house when it went bad. I opted for the convection microwave instead of a regular over the stove one because of the amount of power needed for small things compared to using my oven. This thing works great. A little on the hard side when first figuring out all the options. I do not have it connected to the wifi and probably never will. This microwave is great for steaming veggies with the enclosed steamer. Kids love how their brocolli turns out. Using the convection side of the oven does great for making garlic bread and toasting sandwiches. Overall, a good investment if you need to replace your microwave!

Love the look which was my favorite part. Loved the idea of sensor cooking and remote control and with Alexa. But will say the setup of the WiFi was a real pain and it isn’t very functional. I cant Do much with it since some options are greeted out and the sensor cooking burned my popcorn but it worked on potatoes.

I can understand why this microwave gets good reviews because the features are great but after only 2 yrs the plastic started to deteriorate and left the panel door vulnerable to moisture from cooking to enter the control panel which caused it to malfunction. We had a repair person out that said we had to replace the door which was almost as much as we paid for the it. Best Buy would not stand by this product because we didn't purchase the extended warranty so decided to purchase a whole new one that will not match the stove but won't pay for a product that doesn't last longer than 2 yrs!

Love this convection microwave, everyone this is a must have and a space saver. It cooks like a oven and microwave when needed . This well help save you kitchen space, time, flavor and help lower your electric cost because you will not need your big oven all the time. It also helps when you are make a big dinner and need that extra oven. We use it all the time so picture is a little dirty from cooking. Not the double rack it’s big enough to cook 2 dishes

Microwave is easy to use. Wifi seemed silly but it actually is very useful. It is tricky to get set up. Use both the manual and online documentation. Online has more information. Features are great. Cooks food evenly and its auto sensing is pretty smart. Its deep. Read how it installs before you buy it. Its vent comes out the top and not the top front. If you have deep cabinets they will block it. I chose to modify my cabinet instead because the microwave is worth it. Buttons work fine. Read instructions. They work like a touch screen. Convection works but its a new realm and so practice is to be expected.

Large OTR Microwave AND Convection Oven

This is a very large OTR unit with nice control layout across the bottom of the glass. The coking options are not displayed until you hit a button, then all the cooking options light up. Another Big consideration for me was the high volume fan. With four settings so you can get just the right amount of air flow - It will move some air on #1! Using #3 (Medium Low) works fine for collecting steam from a pot without creating too much draft. It cooks great potatoes if you follow the instructions in the owners manual. Use the "Potato" button and it will sense and cook 1 to 4 potatoes. I have used the Convection feature to cook fish sticks and tater tots. As an oven, it takes several minutes to pre-heat. The tater tots came out crispy and well cooked. The fish sticks worked ok, need to adjust the cooking time. I give it 4 stars because it took some time to get comfortable with the two controls on the far right end: Start and Cancel. Start is an arrow with "+ 30 sec." as a caption. Cancel is an X with "Control lock" as a caption. One other thing to consider is door size. Since the door is full size, I have to move out of the way when opening the door. Many microwaves have the controls on the right side beyond the door making for a shorter door.

This microwave offered everything I was looking for at a fabulous price. Its has a large inside with a shelf and its a convection, It also can be programmed from my phone. We installed it and it was simple. It does everything from reheat to cook to crisp and bake food. It is simple to operate. I cant say enough how much I love this microwave and the smart decision to purchase it. It was the helpful associate at best buy that showed it to us, it wasnt even one I was considering but so very happy we bought it.

This is a great microwave/convection OTR oven! It’s options light up so you don’t have to use the kitchen lights every time you use the microwave! The time can be set to go off totally as an energy saver function. No other microwave we found does that! It has pasta functions/options that really work! There is even a kids menu! All in all this is a fantastic microwave/convection oven that you can use with your smartphone to start the convection oven cooking! Don’t think we’ll ever use that function but it’s there if ever needed! It has easy cleanup interior that is great! It may not be stainless inside but I think that is why our last one was too hot-too much steel! Thank you Whirlpool! Our last one was also Whirlpool and we liked it then and like it just as much now! Thanks Best Buy for getting for us so soon!

I bought this less for the "Smart" functions and more for the style and cooking settings. I've been researching over the range microwaves for awhile, and decided on this unit for a few reasons. 1. Convection Cooking - I was looking to replace my counter top toaster oven, and this does a phenomenal job of cooking food you'd normally put in a toaster over. Pizza, Chicken Strips, Fries, etc. It does VERY well, and the food is perfectly crispy. I'll be honest, I have yet to try a "tater tot hotdish" (that's a casserole for the non-Minnesotans) in this beast, but I am eager to see how it turns out! 2. Ease of Use - Menus are straightforward, and the presets for different types of foods are spot on. Want to reheat 2 slices of pizza? There's a setting for that. How about soup? Yup. It also has sensors to indicate when your food is at the desired temperature, and they work surprisingly well. Ever cook soup in the microwave only to have it be too cold, too hot or not even in temp? Not in this microwave. My soup always comes out at the perfect temperature... It's magical. 3. Internal space - This thing is BIG, and that's mostly a good thing. There's a lot of internal space to cook multiple items, and the racking is awesome. You can have two items on different levels and the microwave cooks them perfectly. 4. Connected Home/Smart - I was a little skeptical of these features, and how useful they'd be. Turns out, it is useful, and you can control time settings, food types and monitor the status of a bigger job (longer cooking time items) from around the house, which is nice. I'll be honest, it's not a feature I use often, but it's nice to have just in case. I will say it hangs a bit lower than the previous GE unit we had previously, but not in such a way that it looks bad, or impedes the use of the stove below. Mounting/hanging was very simple, and the bracket is sturdy as you'd expect. The included templates are helpful to show where holes int he cabinets above should be drilled. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a decently-priced microwave for above-range placement that cooks perfectly nearly every time.

Our existing over-the-range microwave died (OK, it didn't die, but the handle broke off) and it needed to be replaced ASAP. After all, how else are you going to warm up the hot chocolate for the grandkids. Anyway, Best Buy had this one on sale and a review of the competitors proved this was a good deal. I kind of liked the idea of the convection oven being built in as it would give me an excuse for getting rid of a large toaster oven with convection capabilities that was taking up significant counter space. Installation was fairly straight forward. Asked for some quick help from the son-in-law to help lift it up in place. Total install time was maybe 30 minutes. This thing is big. And powerful. And smart! It can automatically sense how much time and what % power is needed for many common tasks. And my experience with that part of things has made me quite impressed. If you are looking for a simple microwave to warm up coffee or pop corn, there are some fine, less expensive and smaller units out there. But if you use your microwave as a true kitchen tool or utensil, then this one would be hard to beat. I am impressed, and that's tough to do.
