Customers are enthusiastic about the 50 Pint Dehumidifier for its quiet operation and user-friendly design. Many appreciate how quiet it is, even when running continuously. Customers also find it easy to set up and operate, making it a convenient choice for maintaining optimal humidity levels in their homes.
On the downside, some customers have concerns about the noise level and durability of the dehumidifier. A few users mentioned that the unit can sometimes produce a loud grinding noise, while others expressed concerns about its longevity, as some units have stopped working after a year or two of use.

Terrible experience and wasted money

The dehumidifier stopped working with less than a year of use. Precisely 9 months after purchase. While the dehumidifier is under warranty you can expect no help from Best Buy or from the manufacturer. I have wasted countless hours on the phone and via email with them trying to troubleshoot the issue but they ask for pictures every time you do a step which becomes very tiresome. At this point I have a $300+ paperweight. Buyer beware. Also, really disappointed in Best Buy for not helping out in this particular situation when the manufacturer is clearly trying to get away with not replacing or refunding.

This unit is amazing. When I first plugged it in, it was clearing 7 gallons a day, but now it's down to about 3 per day and it keeps my place at around 30-35% humidity (down from 70-80%!!!). I love that it can completely dehumidify a 1200 square foot apartment with ease. It does have a stop valve which turns the machine off when completely full, so you don't have to worry about it leaking.
My #1 complaint is it is noisier than I'd hoped. The constant hum is slightly louder than a typical window box air conditioner. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is quiet and 10 is loud, this is probably a 7.5. I position it in the hallway adjacent to my bedroom, bathroom, office and living room, and by doing that, I can sleep at night or work in my office during the day. I think it would be too loud if it was in the same room.
I think that, over time, the handle on the bucket may wear out, since it's just plastic. Right now, however, this was exactly what I needed to mitigate a difficult situation (I'm in the process of moving out of a damp and moldy apartment). I hope to move within a month's time, but I would consider buying another Whirlpool in the future without hesitation. I'm going to do some research and see if there are any quieter models on the market.

Gets the job done without exceeding expectations

It gets the job done, but Whirlpool and the contracted manufacturer (XLS Products) clearly made quality cuts to reduce costs.
I was disappointed to learn that this unit does not have a powerful enough pump to expel water up even a small elevation (less than 12 inches above the out port). If you intend to use the continuous drain, a ground level drain, or large enough platform to elevate the unit above the drain, is absolutely necessary. Otherwise, the unit will not expel water.
That said, the bucket is easy enough to drain manually and is large capacity. The advertised 4500 sqft. efficiency also seems accurate. I'm using this to dehumidify my whole 2 story house, and, at the moment, I only need to drain the bucket twice per day. It gets the job done!
Some other quality concerns follow:
- The bucket handle is very flimsy. I fear it could break in the future.
- The unit can be as loud as a window air conditioner. It seems to lack any sort of sound dampening measures. Just some soft rubber plugs/pads where the bucket contacts the main body of the unit would help eliminate vibration noise.
- The unit lacks a meter or bucket window (the dark square in the images is not a window) to monitor water contents. There is only a red light and an alarm when the bucket is full.

WEe recently purchased two Whirlpool dehumidifiers to replace three older units that had been recalled due to fire hazards. These two are doing the job of three! The controls are easy to use and allow the operation of the units to be tailored to the environment. Ours is in an unfinished basement, but they are quiet enough to be used in living spaces, contrary to the complaints I've read about other units. One caution - if you shut off the units in order to empty them, wait a couple of minutes for the water to drain into the tank before removing otherwise you will get wet carpeting.

Working well so far...

So far, the new dehumidifier is working well. It is replacing one that was 7 years old and not working properly. It took several days of running in a very humid basement to catch up. It is very quiet compared to our old one. The only thing that is strange is that it was supposed to have a large bucket to catch the water but this bucket seems smaller. I know some people connect theirs with a hose but we like to empty it to monitor how often have to. So far so good. I am concerned that our basement is too large for this model but time will tell.

Love my dehumidifier as i live on west coast with high humidity year around. I run it in the evenings to lower humidity for the night and blow the exhaust up the stairs to my second floor bdrm. This dries the upstairs bdrm out and warms it up abit as we have no heat in our casita except for an electric heater. Secret is to buy a big unit like this and it fills the 3 gallon built in container in 10 hrs. or so. Only thing i don't like is you cannot get at the radiator fins to clean the unit . The guy that designed this should have to go to every house and clean the unit for each customer !! I use a fine mesh bag over the removable air intake screen to catch the extra fine lint, crud etc. in the air ! Would of gave it a 5 star rating except for the cleaning problem !

I would have given it a 5*, but every now and then it gets loud. Most of the time it is very quiet, but sometimes it gets louder for a while, then it quiets down. Works great and is very easy to empty the water.

The product works well. My only complaint is about emptying the water reservoir. It is difficult to empty without spilling water. I use it in my basement and empty into a toilet. The tank does not pour out efficiently without spilling water. I believe Whirlpool could improve the design.

The unit does remove humidity but the fan runs constantly. The compressor will stop when the set point has been reach but the fan remains on. This was a deal breaker to me after talking with geek squad and learning that a couple models do this with whirlpool. With as many choices on the market might as well opt for one that the fan doesn’t run all the time increasing your noise, wear and energy costs imo.

Bought the Whirlpool dehumidifier. Works great. The filled bucket is about 3 quarts which I can handle to empty it. I like that when it cuts off on it's own when I empty the bucket it comes back on automatically.
You can hear the motor a little bit but I have gotten use to it.

Works very well with getting the humidity down quickly. Downside no drain hose included (should have read better...) ease of emptying bucket is good. Just make sure before emptying the unit is off for a bit as water will keep dripping if you don't let the unit fully drain.

Our Whirlpool dehumidifier has worked very well since our recent startup. It swiftly fills the condensation tank within 4-5 hours most days. It is very pleasantly quiet. You almost don’t notice the sound of it running and when you do it is a pleasant hum.
