Our new home's laundry area was limited, so we had to go with a more traditional model. Coming from a home with a new state-of-the-art washers, we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent cleaning job this washer does and it does fit a lot of clothes, too.

Like the title says, I really wanted to like this washer. A couple of months back, we decided to "upgrade" to a newer, non-agitator washer with a big enough tub to clean some beddings. And since our old Whirlpool had lasted for close to two decades and still worked great, we had high hopes our new American-made machine. It's a beautiful machine with a big, stainless tub, and a modern, touch-screen interface. And unlike the Samsung that we also liked, it actually fit depth-wise into our hall laundry space.
Right away, however, we noticed that it takes a long, long time to wash anything, even a small load, in our new “high-efficiency” washer. And then, loads never seem to come out all that clean unless they're run through a “deep water” cycle. Nor are they all that well spin-dried, even on the washer's highest setting. Consequently, our old dryer now has to run much longer.
The next thing we discovered was that larger loads, such as jackets, blankets, or beddings, almost always end up out-of-balance, causing the washer to shut down. And unfortunately, that pretty much means re-starting with a short wash-cycle, which runs about twenty-minutes at a minimum. In some cases, it's taken three or four tries to make it all the way through a single, hard-to-balance item, and it always requires that only a single large item (such as a blanket) be washed one at one time. In fact, pretty much any load that approaches half-filling the tub will probably end up out-of-balance.
The second big issue is water-hammer. In fact, it's the sound of our house pipes being repeatedly hammered into submission at this very moment that instigated this review. The method recommended for stopping this by a repair-person is to partially close the offending valve (cold water in our case). However, the result is inevitably an "LF" (low fill-rate) error-code appearing on the washer as it simply shuts down mid wash. Installing an anti water-hammer fitting seems in order.
After two months of two or three loads per week, it's become apparent that our new washer has consumed a great deal more time, effort, and I suspect water than did our old washer. The glacially-slow wash cycles combined with a do-over rate of about 60% means quite literally multiple hours spent hovering over a fussy, delicate, and temperamental machine that threatens to explode our water pipes at any moment. And the repeated out-of-balance washes, which often need to be done with a deep-water setting initially, mean that a lot of extra water is going down the drain anyway.
As much as I hate to admit it, I miss our old washer.

I diligently researched washers before buying this model but it didn’t help. We’ve had it for a little over a year. It doesn’t wash clothes well, I suspect it has some to do with low water usage, ridiculously low water usage. Even on the deep water setting, we will have completely dry spots on clothes.
But the biggest problem is the poor design of plastic lid and metal hinges. The hinges eventually start putting stress on the lid and start cracking the plastic. We now have to push the hinge/lid down and hold it until it locks in order for the machine to start washing. Look elsewhere for a washer but definitely get a metal lid, the plastic will break

Not worth the purchase

We have had the washer for almost three years now and the problem we ran into was the lid locking motor. It has failed twice in the years we have owned it. The first time we had it replaced it cost us almost $400. The parts are also discontinued by the manufacturer so good luck finding a replacement. After the second time it failed (in less than 8 months) we decide to purchase a different washer. Beware when buying this.

This is the most expensive piece of junk!! One month old and it started making crazy noises and not washing right. Repair men came out and made a repair. It got worse. It literally sounds like it’s going to fly into a million pieces every time it washes and it doesn’t wash the clothes, cuts off early, doesn’t always spin, etc. Whirlpool scheduled another repair, but the company said they think it’s the transmission and they can’t work on that, so they refused it. Whirlpool didn’t even bother to contact us, so we took a half day off work for nothing. Now we have to wait 7 more days for another appointment. Who knows how long it would’ve been had we not called Whirlpool back to see why nobody showed up. I have a 3 month old, almost $1,000 washing machine that is worthless right now. I have laundry piling up everywhere. If the transmission went out on a 1 month old washer, which is when all the crazy noises started, it’s obviously a lemon. That’s a huge mechanical problem for it to have being brand new. It should be replaced, not repaired. Mine is not the only review about this washer and these horrible noises. I’m not overloading it. I’m evenly distributing the weight. It’s a piece of junk.

Awful washer

This is the worst washer I have ever owned! The clothes do not get clean and there are often dry spots on clothes that the water never touched. The salesman talked me into getting this machine because of capacity and assured me that it would work as well as a machine with an agitator. Huge mistake! I will never buy another washer without an agitator and I doubt if I will buy another Whirlpool. Huge disappointment.

Don't buy this washer

Bought new in October 2017. Only 4 months old and unit stopped in middle of cycle and has no power now. This happened on a Saturday. Called whirlpool but they are only open M-F. Made service appointment online but they can't get here till Wed. I have 500.00 of school uniforms sitting in water and lid won't open. It's almost beyond belief that whirlpool designed a washer that the lid WILL NOT OPEN if it breaksdown. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. When I called whirlpool there was no option to speak to someone. I knew enough to press 0 and then waited 15 min before I spoke to someone. I tried everthing they told me to trouble shoot and get power back on but nothing worked. If service company keeps scheduled appointment then my clothes will have been in water for 5 days.Whirlpool does not reimburse loss.Called consumer reports and they have had so many complaints on this washer they posted my complaint immediately. There is also a woman online that has started a campaign for whirlpool to issue a recall on this washer because of all the complaints. In this day and age if something new breaksdown when it's only 4 months old and product has alot of complaints it's a design flaw or it was pushed through production anyway knowing it's flaws for it's cheaper to fix the ones that break then to start over. DON'T BUY THIS WASHER. Remember. If a washer breaksdown it can only happen when a washer is in operation . In the case of this washer you will NOT be able to open lid and retrieve your wet clothes. DON'T BUY THIS WASHER

Terrible!

I LOVED this washer when I first purchased it. However, I just found out that the reason why it's flooded my laundry room (a few times in a few months now!!!) Is because it gets stuck on a time and STAYS WASHING FOR HOURS UNTIL SOMEONE STOPS IT OR UNTIL IT FLOODS!!!!! In order to stop it or get it "Unstuck" you need to turn it off and take out incredibly heavy drenched clothes that haven't been fully washed and try to reset the load which is AWFUL! I'll be contacting best buy to either get my money back or get a replacement. I'm SO disappointed as I've purchased several appliances through best buy and NEVER had an issue.

DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE A+ REVIEWS!
I specifically purchased a top loading washer and dryer because my former front loader always had a terrible smell. Unfortunately, the Cabrio washer is 10x worse than my other one. It stinks up my entire house from the basement where it’s housed through the air vents into our bedrooms!

VERY BAD WASHER

I've had this washer for about 4 years. I could not be more disappointed, no wonder they discontinued it. It does not wash might as well leave it in bathtub filled with water and call it done. VERY bad washer. I stuck it out because I did not want to deal with replacing, returning. I tried many different way of getting my laundry to be "cleaner" but whether it was 5 pieces of laundry or 20 it did the same bad job. I'm finally getting rid of it after 4 years and getting myself the GE front load washer. I will not go to top load no-agitator washers ever again,. DO NOT recommend.

3 repairs in 3 years

We purchased this washing machine in Sept 2017 and have had 3 repairs in 3 years. In year 1 the control board had to be replaced (luckily covered by 1-year warranty), year 2 it was the valve, and now year 3 it is the control panel. In total over $700 in repairs not including repair covered by warranty, which would have cost $500+. Do not buy this machine unless you like repairs. Terrible quality.
