Best feeder robot on the market

The Whisker Feeder-Robot is another fantastic pet product from Whisker. As a happy owner of the Litter-Robot 4, I decided to get the Feeder-Robot. It is a well-thought-out premium feeder with a lot of great features.
Pros:
• Packaging – The feeder ships in an appropriately sized box and is well protected. Everything is nicely packed inside and easy to find.
• Setup – The setup is very straightforward. Follow the quick start guide included in the box. Prior to plugging in the feeder, decide if you will need the 1/8th or 1/4th cup dispenser. Both are included and can be easily swapped. Plug in the device and download the Whisper app from the iOS or Android app store. Follow the in-app instructions to complete setup. The whole process took me approximately 5-10 minutes. Many of these features can also be controlled with the front panel of the device should you not want to use the app.
• App – The app is excellent and very easy to use. It tells you the remaining amount of food in the hopper, allows you to create a feeding schedule or give additional snacks, and tracks feeding metrics such as average total food per day/week.
• Optional accessories – You can purchase a battery backup to prevent missed meals in the event of a power outage. I have ordered a battery but have not installed it yet. Additionally, you can purchase extra glass or stainless-steel bowls.
• Whisker Care – The feeder comes with 1 year of Whisker Care which is great. It is a truly comprehensive warranty which covers things such as free shipping both ways, no deductibles, and accidental damage/power surges. There is the ability to extend this coverage to 3 years on the app. I ended up purchasing the 3 year extended warranty from Whisker for peace of mind given the price of the feeder; however, every Whisker product I have owned worked flawlessly.
Overall, I absolutely love the Feeder-Robot. It conveniently feeds my cat daily and sends me notifications if something is wrong. I highly recommend it.

Cats are happy, no more late meals

This review is based on two weeks of use in a multi-cat household. I have had zero issues and the cats are happy to be fed precisely at the same time every day, so I'm considering this feeder to be a complete success.
In the box is the feeder, power cord, two different serving amount paddles, and bowl plus spares (total of 2 metal, 1 plastic). Setup is fast, pending desired serving size you may need to swap out the paddles, otherwise it's plug and play. There is a companion app (see photo) that allows you to fully manage the settings, however there is also a button interface on the front to manually set feeding size / schedule if preferred. I have confirmed that the physical interface works, however I prefer to manage the feeding schedule and amount completely from the Whisker app. A few other setup notes, the food container is a smooth plastic that completely detaches from the housing for easy cleaning, the lid is held in place by a squeeze latch on the top and locks securely in place to prevent cats from helping themselves to the food reservoir, there is a battery compartment for battery backup in case of a power disruption, and the bowls are easy to swap out to clean.
Using the feeder is simple, remove the lid and add dry food. For cats, the feeder will hold a seven lb bag of cat food (advertised capacity is 32 cups). The app will notify the percentage of feed left in the bin in real time and provide a push notification when the feeder is low. From the app I can check the status and how full the feeder is, give a snack (fan fav feature according to the cats), and change the schedule. For scheduling there are two options, gravity mode and set schedules. Gravity mode is my preference, as there are five cats and it's too crowded to try to feed them all at the same time off of one bowl. In gravity mode the feeder checks every six hours and dispenses food until it sees there is food at the chute. I have never once seen the bowl empty nor does gravity cause the bowl to overflow. As I have seven month old kittens in addition to adult and senior cats, I feed a blend of adult larger sized cat food pieces and the smaller sized kitten food. There have been no jams or failure to dispense using either size food. If you prefer to feed on schedule, you can set that through the app, and name different schedules so you can easily swap between a weekend, week day, travel schedule, etc. For each schedule you can build an unlimited number of feedings, so if you wanted to feed every 15 minutes or twice a day, the app allows complete flexibility. Setup process is to name the meal, set a time, determine the portion size (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or 1 cup) and what days of the week to dispense. Once completed you can save this as a profile. From the app I can also see the amount dispensed by day and by week. While using gravity mode I can also see when the device checks the status of the food dish and will dispense more or mark that the chute is full, meaning that no more food is dispensed until the next status check. Lastly in the app is the controls tab where I can give a snack, turn on the panel lock out (child lock), turn on the night light, and turn on/off gravity mode.
Overall the feeder has been a significantly positive addition to the house. With five cats, two of which are growing kittens, it was hard to know how much to feed per day without over feeding and the cats pulling the food out all over the floor. Now I see a consistent food amount in the bowl every time I check, and never once has it been empty while in gravity mode.

AMAZINGLY CONVENIENT!

Let me just state right out of the gate that the Whisker Feeder Robot Autofeeder is AMAZING!
Now comes the part where I tell you why it’s incredible.
I have cats. A couple of them have “self-control” while there’s one that will eat for the sake of eating, sometimes leaving no kibble for the others when they approach the old feeding dish. Whisker has made a product that lends a hand in both saving money on food but also allowing my one cat to eat healthier portions.
By the way, the Whisker Feeder isn’t exclusive to just cats, it also dispenses dog food/treats.
Set-Up:
Setting up the Whisker is a breeze. Remove the packaging, easily fit the hopper insert, place the hopper lid on top, fill it, and plug it in. The instructions will advise you as to which portion dispenser you should use regarding your cat or dog. The feeder has a front panel with easy-to-touch buttons that allow you to feed without using the Whisker App. But if you REALLY want to utilize all of the away from home features, then you will want to download the Whisker app.
Performance and Features:
Through the app, you can choose to give a snack for those times that you might be away from home and may want to appease your fur baby. You can schedule a set time for the Whisker Feeder to disperse food or treats. Gravity Mode is an option that checks the food bowl and “fills” the dish if needed.
The app shows you the food level within the hopper and the average total food per day and week. You can turn on Gravity Mode from the app, and schedule at what time you want the Whisker Feeder to disperse.
This feeder is like having a little butler to feed your cat or dog when you’re not home.
The top of the Whisker Feeder has a light that signals whether it’s full or requires being filled.
And don’t worry about your fur babies getting impatient and attempting to get inside the food hopper, the lid locks into place, making it extremely difficult for them to gain access.
Have more than one Whisker Feeder? You can connect more than one feeder and schedule accordingly. Have a Whisker Litter Robot like I do? Both machines share the same app, making it far more convenient to do everything without needing to bounce between separate apps.
For Convenience and Health:
It was only recently that I learned that I Whisker made the Feeder Robot and I am so glad that it happened. As I mentioned earlier, my one cat eats whatever is in front of her, making her ‘chonky’. Through the feeder, I hope to control her intake and eventually curb her weight. But it’s up to you as to how you will utilize this remarkable device!

I have 3 cats, I know, get a life dude. 3 cats is a lot of work, 2 is easy, 3 is a bit much. They use the litter a lot, crave lots of attention and eat A LOT of dry food. Automating my cat dad life is super important to me and this Feeder Robot is next level.
I tried a few off brand, cheap feeders fr
om Amazon, but they really didn't do it for me. I wanted something with an app and with a bigger bin to hold food. I already have the Litter Robot 4 (absolute beast, I love it), so I know that the Whisker products are reliable and work well. This Feeder Robot has exceeded my expectations.
The setup was super easy, especially since I already had the Whisker app. It took me under a minute to get this set up in the app. I started by using gravity mode, but that led to my cats eating too much, so after a week I changed it to a schedule where they get fed 4 times a day which has been perfect. I went with the 1/8 cup size, 1/4 was way too much.
The reserve bin is huge! It holds a lot of food, which is amazing, one less thing for me to do. I have gone on a couple of weekend trips and I knew that the cats would have plenty of food.
Between the Litter Robot and the Feeder Robot, I can go away for up to a week and not worry about leaving the cats alone! That saves me money since I don't need the cat sitter to come daily.
Next, please make a Water Robot! Meow

TLDR (too long didn’t read) summary is at the bottom.
Full review: I was excited to purchase this feeder, even with my high expectations I felt that the robot was overpriced but I was willing to look past that because this feeder would presumably be more convenient than other feeders simply because of the integration within the whisker app and the fancy one-of-a-kind feature called “Gravity Mode”. Oh how wrong I was.
I’ll start off with the positives though, the feeder has a very big reservoir so if you only have 1 or 2 cats it will last you a long time. The buttons on the robot itself are easy to use, the instructions on how to set up meals from those manual buttons are easy to get the hang of. The light on the robot will tell you how full the food reservoir is with just a glance and the app will give you a percentage of how much food is left. The lid will not be coming off by cat intervention at all, ever, it is very secure. The app can give alerts on errors, when food is low, and when a meal is dispensed. The removable components for ease of cleaning is nice.
Now for my rant about the negatives. The fact that this robot is $300 is a little outrageous, it’s all plastic like any typical feeder but that also includes a plastic bowl. For something so expensive I would expect at least a stainless steel bowl to come in the box, but no if you want a stainless steel bowl it’s an extra $20 from their website, want the fancy looking glass one? an extra $30.
The other piece of premium tech that is not included is the battery backup. And that is listed in the title, but regardless, other, cheaper feeders with battery backups have them included but Whisker must’ve thought that $300 was too cheap to include the battery backup, so that’ll be an extra $40.
Why is it that a different feeder that can be purchased from Best Buy is less than half the cost and comes with a steel bowl and battery backup, but this $300 feeder can’t? Whisker really dropped the ball on that.
The app is fairly clumsy in my opinion, when making schedules from the app it will sync it with the robot over WiFi, when i did that there would be a spinning circle that would go indefinitely until I restarted the app twice, my mistake when I started with it was I thought the schedule didn’t create properly because it would disappear in the app leading me to create another schedule, then when it would update I would have 3 of the same schedule which I would then have to go into the individual schedules in order to delete them which would be another update to sync with the robot.
Other minor issues that I have with the robot that aren’t deal breakers but did annoy me, there is no rubber seal around the lid so it is not air tight. In a 2 bedroom apartment, the sound of the motor when dispensing food was loud enough to wake me up in the middle of the night and I would consider myself a heavy sleeper.
Now for the main reason for me returning this overpriced feeder. “gRaViTy mOdE” advertised as, and I quote, “also called free feeding, ensures the bowl stays full based on a check every 6 hours.” That makes me think that there is some sort of sensor that determines how full the bowl is, how much the cat has eaten, and will intelligently dispense the correct amount of food to keep the bowl full.
I thought my feeder robot was defective but I now believe it is just false advertising. I set the robot to “gRaViTy mOdE” and let it run its course as soon as I got it, what ended up happening was that every 6 hours it would dispense 4 meal portions (which is the maximum amount of portions you are able to dispense per meal). Regardless if the bowl was completely empty, or if the bowl was completely full, 4 portions were dispensed every 6 hours until the food would get backed up into the chute it comes out of and the rotor would be physically blocked, then the app would give an error, multiple errors for every time it attempted to dispense a single portion.
I did some quick google searches and found that it is a misconception that it dynamically adjusts the amount of food to fill up the bowl. I found a reddit thread with Whisker themselves claiming that it checks the food level with a sensor. I then started a customer support online chat on the Whisker website and the rep told me that there was no sensor, it will just dispense food every 6 hours no matter what. I was shocked so I called Whisker customer service, a different rep told me there is a sensor but recommended that I choose scheduled feeding instead, I explained that my cat prefers grazing and is able to control how much they eat and that was the entire reason for me wanting gRaViTy mOdE, then the rep told me that my unit was faulty. I was confused, so after that call I made another call to their support and a 3rd rep told me there is a sensor but regardless how full the bowl is it will dispense 4 portions every 6 hours. I asked if there was even a difference between gRaViTy mOdE and simply scheduling a 4 portion meal every 6 hours. The rep told me yes, the difference is that you can schedule up to 8 meals without gRaViTy mOdE but only offers 4 meals with gRaViTy mOdE.
So it seems like gRaViTy mOdE is nothing more than a 4 portion meal every 6 hours with no actual check of the bowl to see how full it is, or if there is a check it doesn’t use that check to determine how much food to dispense.
I am very disappointed, but I guess for a litter and litter box company, automatic pet feeders are simply not their strong suit.
TLDR: The robot is way overpriced for what it is. The app is clumsy, the features are basic and “premium items” need to be purchased separately, you can get a robot that does the exact same thing for less than half the cost with a better app and many more premium features included. “gRaViTy mOdE” is false advertising confirmed to me by their own customer service.

Few things, upon set up they should have better instuctions. You have to scan the code on the back of the model to set up app on your phone. So my suggestion is to get the app set up before you get it full of food. Also theres not great instructions on how to change out the scoop if you choose to use the bigger one instead of what come pre-installed. It took me a minute to figure out how to change it out. Mostly just have to try out schedules to see how much food your gonna need for your pets.

This is a great, versatile feeder system for whenever you are away from home! The set-up is fairly easy, just by pairing the feeder to your phone via blue-tooth to connect to your network. Once set up, you can control the feeding with various modes liked timed feeding, or gravity sensing, depending on your animals. If you have a pet that eats when hungry, but not to excess, then the gravity mode will work nicely as it refills the tray based on how much food is left. If you have a dog that will eat until it gets sick, then a timed mode will be better so that it can only get access to a certain amount of food in any given day.
I've heard some complaints about the noise of it, which can be surprising at times, but perhaps I'm a bit inured to it as I have an older fridge which tends to be louder anyway (maybe I'm more accustomed to the random noises from the kitchen).
It is also nice to know that there is a battery back-up for 24 hours in case the power goes out. Thankfully, I've never had power go out for more than a few minutes in my home, but if you live in a place that tends to lose power with big storms, this is a good option to have some piece of mind when traveling for a weekend or so (hopefully your power wouldn't be out much longer than 24 hours...).

Nifty Pet Feeder

It was fairly straightforward to get the device setup and connect it to the network. Although it is now properly configured to dispense 1/2 cup of food twice a day, it was rather frustrating to get there. It seems that both the shipped instructions and online instructions are somewhat misleading in describing how to program the device to dispense a 1/2 cup meal. After much trial and error, we finally switched out the impellers and only then could we get the desired meal size dispensed. After that, it has worked flawlessly. It connects to the Whiskers app on iPhone or Android and allows you program feeding schedule and meal size. It also provides a treat button to allow unscheduled dispensing of a treat. We are using it to feed our medium sized dog but it would work equally well for feeding a cat and probably multiple cats as long as they didn't mind sharing. One more thing, make sure you insert whichever provided food bowl you select underneath the lip of the dispensing chute.
In summary, this auto pet feeder is really neat.

Nice automatic feeder for cats and dogs. May be a bit small for larger dogs but probably fine for medium to smaller dogs. I have two cats one a female that had been a stray apparently quite awhile and just decided to move in one day. The other a male that I guess was feral since he seemed to have had no real contact with humans. I live next to a wooded area so I guess that's why they were here. I tried to ignore the male until one day he was lying on my deck looking like he was going to die of starvation so I started leaving food out for him. He was smaller then and afraid of me. He's much bigger now. Anyway I hadn't really planned to have cats they just kind of happened. They both prefer to spend time outdoors as long as it's not freezing cold out. They're both pretty spoiled now and the boy can eat a lot of food when he's not eating squirrels or mice.
Feeding them can be a chore sometimes; there's always so many other things that need to be done. This feeder makes it a lot easier and saves some space as well since I can fill it up and put their food bag away in a cabinet. The feeder doesn't take up much more floor space than the food bowl and I don't have to scoop out some food ten times a day to feed them. It holds quite a bit of food and seems to keep it pretty fresh.
Has a lot of options for auto or manual operation. The app is pretty good too especially if you're not home and want to keep your pet fed. It has some good history features to let you track how much your pet is eating. Seems well made so should last awhile. One thing is the app kept showing mine was empty even though it wasn't so I just leveled out the food in the hopper and it worked fine after that.
A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Time is money and this will save you some time. If you like to spoil your pets or you're a gadget freak like me get one.

So convenient

The Whisker Feeder-Robot Wi-fi auto-feeder is a super convenient addition to your pet care needs.
The Feeder-Robot comes well packaged with easily identifiable parts. Setup was not too difficult, although I found the directions in the box lacking.
The feeder has both automatic and manual feeding modes. The "Gravity" feeding mode dispenses a meal every 6 hours. The Automatic feeding mode can be scheduled however you want it (number of meals, portion size, timing etc). There is also a manual button to dispense a snack or meal when the button is pressed.
We have one cat that is, shall we say, large and in charge. She clearly needs portion control but being a working family that is away for most of the day we don't want to give too little food. The feeder robot solves that problem and allows us to dispense 3 small meals throughout the day. At first our cat was unsure about the feeder, but the only way she was going to eat was if she ate from the feeder bowl. Don't cheat and give your pet food outside of the feeder robot. Our cat needed a day to get used to it but now she comes around the feeder at the approximate feeding times we have set.
The feeder can be setup and controlled by the panel buttons on the unit or by the Whisker app. I find the app to be easy to use and can be used from anywhere so that's what I normally do.

The Whisker - Feeder - Robot Wi-Fi steel cat and dog auto- feeder with hopper is a unique product designed to control the amount of food your pet eats through portion control and when your dog or cat eats. The Whisker - Feeder - Robot operates via wi-fi and is controlled by the Whisker app. Food can be dispensed either manually or through a schedule. By controlling the amount and timing of the food dispersal, you also tend a have a less messy area. It is also really only useful for dry food.
In practice, the Whisker app was easy to download and setup. Schedules and portion control are easy to setup and manual feeding is a breeze. The app also works in the house or over the internet in case you forget or need to make changes to your pet's feeding while away.
The Whisker does what it is advertised to do however, I feel that it is a niche product and somewhat over priced. I recommend it if you feel that you need it's features for your cat or dog's feeding and are willing to spend the money. The ability to better control your animal's food intake can in some cases lead to better weight management and health for your pet.
