About me:
- 30 yrs old
- Advanced Microsoft Windows OS user from 98 to Windows 8.1.
- Game & Simulation programmer
[ PROS ]
- Affordable price
- Stable OS platform
- Buy Best Buy products & earn Reward Zone points.
- Doesn't differ greatly from MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.
- Product has limited 1 yr warranty
- Users can purchase another activation license from Microsoft.com if they use this disc to install MS Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on their pc.
- Activation license has unlimited product support until Win 7 gets phased out like Win XP.
- User is allowed to downgrade files from 64bit to 32bit on the fly, as needed. VERY USEFUL feature when preparing files on a broken Win 7 32bit OS and only having access to a Win 7 64bit Home Premium OS.
[ CONS ]
- Activation license is only good for 1 PC activation.
- Once activation code is activated you can only use the disc for system reinstallations.
- MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit differs from MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit as 64bit allows for & sometimes requires administrator settings to be set either start installation, reinstallation, once a program is installed or ran for the first time whereas Win 7 Home Premium 32bit handles most of those task for the user.
- Installation disc does not come with/offer user the MSDN library.

Glad I updated to Windows 7

For quite a while I'd been considering upgrading my older Windows Vista Desktop to Windows 7 but kept putting it off out of fear of really screwing things up. I finally ordered the upgrade disc from BestBuy.com and when the disc arrived I "bit the bullet" and did the install. While the update did take about 2 1/2 hours I must say everything went smoothly. I had previously run the windows 7 compatibility test and uninstalled a couple of things that were listed as perhaps not being compatible with Windows 7. I reinstalled updated versions of these programs after the Windows 7 install. The worst part of the whole experience was not doing the upgrade but rather the nearly 200 Windows updates needed to bring Windows 7 up to date. After the Windows 7 install it's almost like having a new computer. Everything is faster and Internet Explorer 11 is much better than Internet Explorer 9 which was the latest version available for Windows Vista. I might add that I don't know a lot about computers, but if I can do this I think anyone can!

We bought this to update an XP computer so our children could use it for school work. Now we don't have to worry about the issues involved with lack of XP support. We did have a tech guru install the software, and he also had to reinstall Office. Total cost between software and tech support much less than replacing a four year old laptop in excellent condition. Guru says we should get another five years of life, just in time for Windows 7 support to be discontinued.
We purchased two copies of Windows 7 Home Premium. Have not installed second copy yet, as we need to uninstall old software from computer so we are able to reinstall when upgraded. That is biggest issue I have. It is time consuming to backup all files, uninstall software, then reinstall software after Windows 7 is loaded.

Let me start out by saying that I'm a Mac. Therefore, I would not touch a PC under normal circumstances. I had to get a PC for work, but they would not allow Windows 8.1, and I cannot blame them. So I had the option of normal 8, or 7. Windows 7 functions far better than any other Windows OS I have used before. It runs faster, it's sleeker, and it isn't so mind bogglingly confusing like Windows 8. If you're fed up with 8 like I was, this is the way to go. This product gives you everything you need, including the knowhow for getting it done. If you still don't feel comfortable, that's what Geek Squad is there for.

I bought windows 7 64 bit to run in a separate partition on my iMac that has 32 GB of RAM. Macs make great windows machines if you set them up right. There are some application that I need windows to run and I needed the 64 bit version to be able to use all the RAM this machine has. I have a PC Laptop that I use for the windows applications I need to run. This partition on my iMac is mainly for a backup for my PC.
It runs great so far. It is there when I need it. If you have more than 4GB of memory you need the 64 bit version to be able to use it. Microsoft I really don't want my PC to look like a tablet or a smart phone so I am not biting on Windows 8.

As Microsoft no longer supports XP, a tried and true OS with many dedicated Business Users, it became necessary to upgrade. I have Windows 8 on a PC in the house, and HATE it as an operating system, leaving me to seek alternatives. I can safely say that I will never buy an Apple product, and Linux is too much of a departure from what I am used to, so Windows 7 it is. I am glad that Best Buy still stocks this Item. The upgrade was fairly simple, and I am back in business. Once again the Geek Squad was very helpful. - JM

I've had Windows 3.1, 95, 98, XP and Vista. This is by far the best version yet. It runs smoothly, looks good and does everything it's supposed to do without hindering your system.

Replacing the program

The harddrive on my ASUS tower had failed a linear test during cleaning and a tuneup, and had to be replaced. The computer originally came with Windows 7, and I wanted to replace the op system with what I was familiar with, so I went with a new Windows 7 program. Once my data was reloaded into the computer, everything is working as it should. I am unfamiliar with Win 8, and can't afford a new computer with the new Win 10, so I am well satisfied with my purchase of Win 7.

Microsoft chose to ditch the "desktop paradigm" for the "tablet/touch screen revolution". As such, they opted for a GUI that favors that technology. Though, tablets are ubiquitous, the desktop is still alive and well - a fact that Microsoft seems to have acknowledged with it's release of Win 8.1 -- BUT IT'S STILL Win 8 UGLY!!
The trend in GUI design was towards a more "3D" look, with more shading and luster. I imagine the Microsoft engineers, during a preliminary Windows 8 design meeting, sitting around mulling over the question, "Where-to from here? How do we make this different?"
Then, one bright, young attendee jumped up and said, "I know, lets make it look like Windows 1, but with color! But not pretty color - no, lets use muted, flat ugly colors! And lets make the graphics minimal, like they were at the dawn of the Graphical User Interface!!"
What puzzles me, though, is why would such a young engineer be nostalgic for the dawn of the graphical desktop?
But I kid -- the real reason, of course, was to conserve resources because tablets can be lacking in that department. As such, the desktop must suffer from "least common denominator syndrome"!
As such, I will be sticking with Win 7 for as long as Microsoft supports it!

Windows 7 is the best version of Windows yet. I installed it on a boot camp partition on a Macbook Air. It loads fast and works great. It is also eligible for a free upgrade to Win 10 although I don't know if I'll do so.

I kinda regret buying this, to be honest. I bought it because it's what the computers at my daughters school use. So, my thought was that her new computer should run what the schools computers run. However, my boyfriend pleaded not to put Windows 7 on her new Windows 8 computer. Aside from the fact that a new computer might not run well on old software, taking a step backwards for my daughter isn't really what I wanted to do. I used the opportunity of my daughter getting a new computer to learn Windows 8 myself so I could teach it to her and we could learn together what is the same and different about the two programs. As far as the copy of Windows 7 that I bought... my computer needs it anyway so I guess it worked out. I rated Windows 7 with four stars because it is too outdated to get five stars. Windows 8 will be outdated soon enough. However, Windows 7 is just too darn good to give a low score.

My home computer was running very sluggish and I decided to get the upgrade while it is still available. I first carefully backed up my photos and important docs onto an exterior portable drive. I was able to select the "UPGRADE" option on the disk. What a relief. I did not have to worry about reinstalling my programs. The installation was pretty straight forward, but the computer did take awhile to install the new Windows. Also the next day I checked out the available updates: 180 updates from Microsoft which took over 6 hours to install (I did these overnight while I slept). I love Windows 7. It's like getting a new computer. I highly recommend upgrading from Vista.

Hi, I had to pay a computer shop to load windows 7 onto my computer.
He said there was not a problem loading windows 7.
I paid him $200.
Your Best company 'Geek" squad company could not help me by walking me through loading this software.
They said my computer bios needing adjusting.
They were wrong.--Nothing needed adjusting according to my computer shop.
Your Geek squad claimed they could not take control of my computer to help load this purchase o windows7.
This is something that needs correcting.
I paid you $140 for the purchase of this software, but i Had to pay someone $200 to load this software.
I hope you see a problem with your company.
