I like this camera for someone that doesn’t want to or can’t run wires to power a camera this is a great option. Only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because of battery life. The 6 months or so they say is way off. I don’t live on a super busy road and the cars can’t trigger it only people on the sidewalk and even so just the people walking by are enough to kill the batter in under two months in 22 days as you can see from the photo it dropped to 31% in the middle of summer. It was worse during the winter.
Video quality is plenty good enough for the money. The yearly subscription ($20) is well worth it.
Overall I like this camera and will be buying more but people need to understand if you can’t put it in a hard to reach spot because you will be reaching for it way more than you think.

The wyze v2 outdoor cam is a good addition to the camera family. I already have a few of them around my house. This is my first outdoor.
Set up is straight forward but can be tricky. Plug the base into your router and add the device. Not sure what was going on with mine but it took several tries to get the app to find my base and my phone and the base were within 2 feet of the router. I had to do some hard resets and restarts to finally get it paired.
Once it's connected however, you can then toggle the base to switch from ethernet to wifi. I needed to do this because the router and base were too far away from where the camera would be installed (above my garage watching my driveway)
I ended up moving the base into my garage and have no issues with the router reaching the base.
Image is really clear and there is little to no lag on viewing in the app (that is obviously dependent on your internet connection)
The base is secure and if you do mount it flat on it you can put a screw in to hook and secure. It swivels and articulates in case you want to wall mount or upside down
Battery life seems promising so far. In about a week I've had more than my expected daily triggers (had it in house to better test battery), and at about a dozen or so alerts per day, I'm only losing 1% of battery per day. So 100 days.
With my motion zone, I only have it set to record my driveway, and I expect about 6 to 8 triggers a day. That should extend my battery about 50% to 100% longer.. IE 4 to 6 months.
If you plan on having it in a place that you don't want to retrieve it every several months you can always run a long usb cable to charge somewhere.
Overall if you need outdoor monitoring, you can beat wyze, especially for the price.

The Wyze - Cam Outdoor v2 Starter Bundle contains a camera and a mini hub which plugs into your network via an Ethernet cable, unlike other models which connect to your WI-Fi access point directly, and it also contains a micro SD card to backup the micro SD card slot which is on the camera, in case your outdoor camera gets stolen you have a backup copy in the station. Again an odd choice as initially I tried to only install a micro SD card in the hub to save recordings, nope does not work. Pretty fundamental feature for other security camera, to be able to record to a central station. In any case the Outdoor Security Camera is an affordable option for video surveillance, but requires a per camera cloud subscription to get full AI features, as a matter of fact you can’t easily record motion triggered video easily without. I did discover a workaround which involves using the mobile app to schedule a long term continuous recording triggered by motion, this seemed to work – although the AI motion detection and subject framing is not available, in addition the interface for scheduled recordings is a bit clunky, really pushing you towards a cloud subscription. The design is a standard Wyze camera design and is just an update to the last model. The good thing about this model is it has a built in battery which claims to have about a 6 month battery life, which is dependent on how much motion detection it has to do. If you use the camera in a busy area, the battery will likely last substantially less, I got about a week of life on a full charge in a garage which has one car exiting and entering daily as well as some person traffic during the week – so strategically place the camera in an area where it will not pick up a lot of motion. For outdoor use the camera is certified as IP65 Weather resistant. The camera only does 1080p HD video, while the competition is starting to move towards 4K resolution. In any case the clarity of the video is still pretty good and the night vision about the best at this price point. Wyze claims to have “color night vision" which is unique as most night vision (driven by LED infrared lighting) usually is black, white and grey. The Starlight Sensor is what allows color night vision, and it does a decent job, but I still prefer the standard night vision mode, unless you have a decent amount of ambient light to support the color version.
Setup of the camera was fairly easy, with voice prompts and indicator lights, the mobile app does a very good job and leverages a QR code for the camera to scan to identify, configure and join the camera to you’re the wireless hub/receiver you attach via Ethernet to your network. As for detection, the motion sensing is decent but I often encountered recordings which started quite a bit after first detecting motion, I played with the settings a bit but never could really get the camera to be as responsive as I would expect in detecting motion.
Overall if you are already vested in the Wyze device eco-system the Wyze - Cam Outdoor v2 Starter Bundle is definitely an improvement over earlier versions, is it up to par with some other security camera solutions, depends on your use case.
Pros:
- Nice design
- Fairly clean, artifact free video
- Night vision modes, long range from the IR LEDs
- Micro SD card slot, for local recordings, time lapse
- 8x Digital Zoom
- Works with Google assistant, Alex and IFTTT
- You can use this camera in offline mode to record motion triggered clips directly to the micro SD card even if not connected at the time to the base station.
Cons:
- Cloud subscription is really necessary for this Wyze model, although there are workarounds.
- Smart AI Detection only available with Cam Plus subscription

Simple outdoor camera
Easy easy install.
It’s simple to follow the direction to plug in camera and plug in router then download the app. Follow those directions and you will get instant video.
A few extra steps are needed if you are wanting to connect to other systems.
I do suggest that you view a couple of YouTube videos before install, makes life easier.
That’s just my two cents on that.
And the mounting options aren’t the best but hopefully you don’t need anything too complex. Sitting it on a flat service is the best route.
It’s a slightly larger footprint that other camera designs so that’s something to consider if you are into looks for doorbells. It looks like a Lego block. Lol
My router is really close though. So I didn’t have any issues connecting.
Reaction time from video and app sight is pretty spot on.
Night vision is good. Video is decent but nothing close to 4k or 1080p but you can see cars and people at the very least.
If you are looking for a good intro doorbell this is a good option.

Great Outdoor Cam

This is a very small camera that can be put anywhere. It comes with a magnetic base making so easy and convenient to take off and charge when needed. The base of the camera moves around to adjust the setting. I've had the camera up and for a week and the battery is showing at 70% charge, so maybe every 3 weeks a needs a full charge. The set up with the app was a bit challenging, my phone had a difficult time scanning the QR code but once that was done everything else was a piece of cake. Like any other camera app you can customize the settings and get notications of what's really important like human, animal, vehicle movement. In my case I like to know what is going on outside during the night so if a mosquito flies by you will get a notification.Of course you can adjust to your liking. Day and Night vision is crisp clear. However I do think that this camera can be easily stolen or moved since its base is a magnet. There is no way of screwing it in other than that, this is a great quality camera for your security needs.

Good Budget Outdoor Camera

Wyze outdoor V2 starter bundle is a budget outdoor camera option with all the features that you get from name brand ones. I wanted to test its capabilities before adding more cameras to the hub. It came with a Wi-Fi hub, an outdoor camera, the mounts, and the required cables to hook it up.
Installation: Installation was a breeze, it took me less than 5 mins to get it configured and have the camera up and running. It immediately prompted me for a firmware update that took about 7 minutes. The mag mount is pretty strong and holds the camera firmly. The only drawback is the suction isn't that powerful if you decide to use the top part of the camera with the mag mount (when the mag mount is screwed to the ceiling) so I chose to mount it on the side wall with the recommended positioning options in the installation guide. The app has step-by-step instructions on configuration and installation process.
Features: Came with all the necessary features you need, in spite of being a budget outdoor camera. Pretty good resolution (1920x1080), good quality live video for day and night conditions and a wide-angle view (110 degree). The app has recommendations in the settings menu on how to position the camera to get the best view. I configured the activity zone for notification, and it was pretty good so far, with few false triggers as my front door is facing the street and it picked up few activities from the street. The notifications are timely - within 10-40 seconds of the activity. I set my phone settings to keep this app running in the background and prevent the phone from putting the app to sleep which might delay the notifications. I have another camera that has some lag, few seconds to minutes lag with the same settings. The Wi-Fi range is pretty good as well and didn't have any issues with the camera getting disconnected from the base station (connected to the router via ethernet). The battery life is good as well and I compared the battery life with a different brand one that is priced a bit higher. It has an SD card option on the base station to store the recordings/pictures. The only complaint I have is the subscription prices for activity recording are a bit higher compared to what other brands have to offer. So, if you don’t care about recordings and happy with just the picture notifications, this is the cheapest option with the best value compared to name brand ones.
Overall, it's good value for the price. You get all the features you need to get started and it offers an option to extend up to four cameras per base station. This is definitely a cheaper option if you plan to have four cameras monitoring your perimeter.

Best value in the security camera space

Wyze is a welcomed newcomer to the security camera space. For the last several years, we've had Nest and Arlo products across our exterior and interior of our home. For the most part l, we've been happy with them, but they are both expensive options that are no way near the value that Wyze wants to offer.
These cams are wireless, which is great. But I was disappointed to see USB-A instead of USB-C. These are new enough that I expect them to be up to date with the newest standard.
The picture isn't bad, but it's not 4K or as sharp as you'd want an outdoor cam to be. Especially where the street is, because you want to be able to read license plates and see faces with detail. But it's serviceable for a cam to look out for packages and all-around mischief.
The app seems sufficient. I didn't have any issues setting the unit up. I've had them for a week and the base already received two firmware updates, which I like.
Another aspect I don't like is that you are tied to a subscription if you want live videos and not just stills. However, the price is around $20 a year for the non-pro tier which is a lot better than Nest or Arlo. It seems as if all security cams have subscriptions, but I applaud Wyze for keeping on the inexpensive side.
The value is there with these if you aren't looking for the top-of-the-line expensive solution. I love their value. Security cams shouldn't be super expensive if you want to have a handful around the house.
Wyze cams are a great introduction to security. Start with a few of these and see if they fit your needs. If they do? Buy in. It's a great solution.

Great Indoor/Outdoor Starter System

Great product. I have had multiple indoor/outdoor security cameras/systems over the years and I can say, without hesitation, this Wyze system is right up there.
Inside the box, you'll find a single Base Station, it's power supply, a single camera, USB cable, USB charging block, basic mounting hardware and the ubiquitous quick start guide.
Set up was simple. IMPORTANT NOTE: You will need an available Ethernet port to set it up. Once set up, you can use the Base Station wirelessly. Simply download app, connect to your Ethernet port and set the Base Station up. Then charge the camera and connect it to Base Station and you are off and running.
One thing I definitely appreciate about the Wyze system is it's native 3:4 camera aspect ratio. Many others use the 16:9 aspect ration which leaves so much unused screen, whereas the 3:4 uses all of the screen on most phones and tablets. Nice feature.
Another nice add is that you can insert Micro SD in both the Base Station and the camera for native recording.
While it is a very good system, it does have one [in my mind] limitation... The Base Station can only support 4 Wyze cameras. You can certainly add more Base Stations to increase capacity, but it would be nice if it supported 8 or 12 camera's. Yes, a minor nitpick but I think it's fair.
End of the day, I would [and have] recommend to a friend

This is my second Wyze Cam Outdoor camera. I've used the original version of it now for a little over 2 years and have been very happy with it. I do pay the annual $20 for the Cam+ subscription (or you could opt for the $2 monthly). They just had a sale and I was able to add this new camera to the subscription for a total of $30/year. It would have been $40/year otherwise.
I generally hate subscriptions, but since the cameras are very economical and the annual fee isn't that bad, I at least feel like this is a good value. You not only get "smart detection" (people, vehicles, pets, packages) but you can also record longer than the 12 second limit. Most importantly for me, I can also adjust the "cool down" period all the way to zero if I want. The default cool down is 5 minutes--i.e., once it detects motion and records the 12 seconds, it won't start recording again until 5 minutes later. A lot can happen in 5 minutes and day will come that you'll wish you had a video of whatever happened.
I haven't really used it, but another nice thing about the subscription is you just buy x number of licenses that you can put on different cameras. So, if you decide later to get a different camera and give the current one to somebody else, you can just transfer the license to your new camera.
One thing that's a little confusing about the Wyze cameras, is some of them connect directly to your home Wifi network while others, like this model, require the base station. It requires a wired connection to your network initially, but once it's set up you can switch it to wireless. A downside to the base station is it doesn't quite have the same outdoor range as my home Wifi mesh system. But, depending on where you want to place your camera(s), you might be able to place the base station in a better location in your house to get it to reach further outside.
The battery on this camera is pretty solid, but it all just depends on how much activity you're recording. If you have very infrequent events, then it'll last a long time. But if you're watching for pets/animals and any other activity like me, then it tends to run the battery down faster. To solve this, I also purchased the Wyze solar chargers for both cameras. ($25 each) I've used one on my original camera for over a year now and it works perfectly. I'm able to position them straight south, so even through the winter months it kept the battery at 100% by the end of the day. Overnight it would drop a few percent, but then charge back up the next day. A couple of times we had an extended period of weather that let the battery drop down too far to be recharged by the solar panel. When that happened, I just charged it inside to 100% then the solar kept it up after that.
The picture quality is sufficient for what I need. It's better than some of my older cameras, but not as good as some of the newer and more expensive ones I've tried. For the price, though, I think the Wyze cameras are almost a no-brainer decision.

The Wyze Cam Outdoor v2 Starter Bundle is a nice and simplified setup to have for outdoor usage.
This camera system consists of the camera, a base station, power adapter, network CAT5 cable, USB cable, and the screw assembly. You will need to download/install the Wyze app to your mobile device in order to use this camera. The Wyze app is very nice and walks you through the setup and installation process quite well. This camera can be mounted easily on a wall and the camera can be turned accordingly to aim in the desired direction. All the materials you would need are included.
The camera itself is wireless, and will need to be charged periodically. The base station that comes with this will need to be plugged into your network and uses a wall plug outlet for electricity as well. The camera is capable of a nice and clear 1080p HD video and also offers an AI software with motion tagging as people or objects are approaching the range. There is also a nice feature for Color Night Vision that helps to accentuate images in the dark. It helps me to distinguish the color of a car or person's clothing in case I need to identify it at a later time. The other part I like about this camera is the local storage capability to use a micro SD card and store the video footage internally on the device for my review later. There is also the option to pay for the Wyze subscription monitoring service if you choose to.
Overall I think this camera offers great clarity and video capability to help me monitor my premises. The compact size is nice and easy to fit into places. I also like the Wyze app as it is quite easy to navigate and monitor camera footage live and to review footage.

Good quality - subscription needed for recordings

Another Security Camera review under my belt with this Wyze Cam Outdoor Starter Bundle; boy do I wish I didn’t pick this one up.
TL;DR for my frequent readers & more below.
Good:
Clarity & Quality of Video/Images
Form Factor
Simple App configuration
Easy updates
Bad:
Hub has a proprietary power connector
MicroUSB charging port for Camera
Subscription based recording
WiFi "N" from 2009
On opening this box, I was shocked to find a MicroUSB cable and thought it must be for the hub to get power. Nope, it was for the camera (nooooooooooooo!). Looking further, the Hub itself has a proprietary ‘round’ power connector instead of something universal, like USB. I found that pretty weird, as it doesn’t seem to be something that needs a brick given it doesn’t need to do much more than WiFi on top of its compute functions.
The base is pretty nice & has a sturdy magnet for the camera to snap onto; I didn’t mount the base but it did include some screws and anchors. An angled position (point up, etc) can be achieved by exposing the arm from the base, allowing it to be placed on the ground and have a good view upward, vs straight / down.
The App setup was fine, super simple and both the Base station & Camera each received updates straight away and both the App and Base station received another set of updates in the time I was playing with the camera and features. At first, the Base station needs to be hard-wired (Ethernet cable) to the network during setup; kind of weird, but whatever. Then, in Device Info, you can kick it over to WiFi.
On the box, it calls out 802.11b/g/n as the WiFi capability - which is weird since we've hit "ax" and WiFi6; "n" is from back in 2009 ish. I'm not too sure how accurate that is.
In my first few minutes, I received notifications, set up the AI part that looks for people vs vehicles and ran through the App for different features. Trying to see what happened on the other hand, not so easy. The notification has a still image but unlike other ‘starter’ type budget cameras, that’s where it ends. No ability to have recordings saved without a subscription is … not for me. Even with a limited recording ability such as: “Record 12-second Event videos every 5 minutes” still ends up costing something like $2.48/month; paying annually typically knocks the cost down but come on - 12 seconds every 5 minutes they want to cost (2.48*12) ~ $30/year? Adding a MicroSD card to your Base station doesn’t help either as the MicroSD card holds: “[the] same recordings that are stored in the cloud, but the microSD serves as an additional, physical backup.” So pay for the card & pay for the sub.
From a clarity perspective when I took manual photos and videos that ARE saved to my mobile device, I found them to be nice, clear and detailed for only 1080p!
To conclude, if you want a subscription-based camera that takes the price tag up about $20 + a yearly subscription fee moving forward, go for it because with your MicroSD card (not included), you can have 2 copies. If you don’t want it for ‘actual security’ then skip it and find a different vendor that doesn’t go the subscription route.

A surprisingly disappointing Wyze Camera

I was very excited to add another camera to my menagerie of connected cameras and devices around the perimeter of my home. I have several other Wyze-branded products and have been very happy with their performance and utility ... that is until I received my Wyze - Cam Outdoor v2 Starter Bundle.
First, I'll start with the good:
- The camera itself is well-designed and sturdy; I trust it will hold up well, even in the harsher midwest winters where I live.
- The Wyze app has, generally speaking, been easy to use and understand.
- A variety of installation options are available, including both wall and ceiling installations and the software allows you to adjust the camera's view accordingly.
Now to the not-so-good:
- The setup of this camera was extraordinary different (and difficult) than any other Wyze product I have ever set up. Errors upon errors, multiple resets, etc. Not easy.
- The "Base Station" requires an ethernet connection. Wifi? Nope. Must be wired to a router and, at least for me, I did not have an open ethernet port on any of my mesh routers.
- They don't include an SD Card (read carefully).
- Notifications? Not so much. I troubleshooted this for nearly an hour and have yet to get a notification of any type (movement, etc.) - BUT I am still getting plenty of notifications from my other Wyze devices.
- The battery, estimated to last 6 months or more, fell to 98% just during the setup process. An hour or so later, 92%. I have serious doubts about 6 months even in moderate weather conditions.
Overall, I was surprisingly disappointed in this device. I have other cameras from other brands that don't require an ethernet-only connected base station.
I would not recommend this particular model from Wyze. I am very disappointed.

WYZE camera is made for the outdoors. Just like its sibling video doorbell, its built for the elements. A micro SD card slot accepts an additional memory chip, providing storage for more better versatility.
The cube camera has a built in battery so no real wiring is required. The app shows the camera's current state of charge.
I charged my camera for a few days to insure it was full. Mounting the stand is easy with one or two screws. It has a magnetic mount for easy removal and installation. The wireless hub connects directly to your router through an RJ45 cable. But the camera to hub is wireless.
Pairing the hub to the app is straight forward . A slide show walked me through each step. Once added to my account, the program asked to update the firmware. For the HUB, it was four separate downloads, but easy to accomplish. Next was pairing the camera to the hub. Easy also. Right away the app requested permission to download and install new camera firmware.
That is all for set up. I did this on the work bench. Once mounted the camera software allows me to chose SD or HD picture quality. Depending on what area I'm protecting can extend the total recording time and provide quicker playback.
Optional cloud storage is also available as is the ability to turn the camera and doorbell into part of a home alarm system.
