Returned the gtx970 for this

Okay initially went with the evga gtx970 ssc , worked great for a few hours then I come back to play chrome starts crashing it, precision x starts crashing it, and every game I played, reinstalled drivers updated them. No avail! Which you can't edit your reviews I would have given it 1 star. Reason for going with it was the HEAT and POWER ISSUES of the 390 claims (ALL TOTAL BS)
The r9 390 runs only 3 degrees hotter under load in my pc, and 3 degrees cooler idle.
System was a few degrees hotter under load then with the r9 390.
Power I am able to use this card with a 650w Thermaltake and its doing perfect. I even have my cpu FX-8120 w/ 4.3ghz OC.
I should have waited for more reviews before buying the card, this thing performs better and smoother , with no crashes.
Believe the reviews ITS BETTER. No driver issues at all!
With 8gigs this should futureproof you for quite awhile why settle for the 4gb wait 3.5gb(another thing that made me mad).
So don't believe the extreme heat BS, along with the extreme power, if you have a good named brand 650w you should be fine, this 8core is a powerhog and I am having no issues. Did I mention it comes with a backplate, unlike the 970.
10/10 I have tried both. R9 390 is the champ!
Yes it does seem too good to be true!

I was about to upgrade from a PNY GTX 770 4gb of ram to a EVA GTX 970 4 GB. Until a friend told me a bout this ATI. I was an ATI user before the GTX 770 and I like them but most of the review show the NVIDIA's card over perform the ATI. But in this case this is has better numbers, similar or less prices that the GTX970 and is 8gb of ram. Also Runs Cooler that the GTX 770. Tomb Raider in High Resolution 1080p at 60 fps with no problem and also works with Photoshop a lot better in my opinion...

I bought two of these based on reviews from online publications. I chose to buy from Best Buy and XFX because of the Lifetime Warranty that is offered. The price is good, but they can be found cheaper elsewhere if you're okay with a standard 2 or 3 year warranty. The cards look really good, they have backplates which is a nice bonus. I haven't had any issues with crossfire or with bad drivers like some folks reported. I will advice that you upgrade from the official release drivers to the newest beta drivers. Before I did so I was having some odd stuttering issues, but with the beta drivers those have completely disappeared. I'm running them at a decent overclock at stock voltage. They seem to be stable so far at 1100 core / 1675 memory. Even one of these cards will max out 1080p easily. Two together should even make 1440p smooth as butter. I plan to upgrade to a 21:9 1440p monitor later next year, so having the two in crossfire is going to be really important.
Anyway, the cards are amazing. Super fast, very affordable for the performance offered, and come with a lifetime warranty. I highly recommend these cards.

This is a great XFX version of the R9-390. It is a large card so make sure you have the space for it. It was a tight squeeze in my full tower, but I had just enough room. This card requires quit a bit of power so double check the specs of your rig. I had an 800 watt PSU but it was 4 years old. The R9-390 made short work of my aged PSU. Installed a new PSU and now it runs great. Made most of my games look better than I thought they could have. Awesome frame rates as well. Is a little loud when stressed but stays fairly cool with the dual fan setup.
I am very happy with this purchase.

Re-badged 290?
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I picked this card for future upgrades such as a triple monitor set-up due to the 8GB of VRAM that it offers compared to NVIDIA's GTX 970, which only offers 4GB (SKU: 2496109) and is about the same price. There are a few claims from AMD that this card is not a re-badged 290 but comparing the specs between the two, they are very very similar. You do get 4GB more VRAM, slightly faster memory speed, and more memory bandwidth with the R3 390. Put it up against a GTX 970, and you will be surprised at how it can keep up with it in 3DMark benchmarking compared to its R9 290 predecessor. To sum it up, the R9 390 is technically a beefed up and "overclocked" R9 290 and has the potential to keep up with its top rival, the GTX 970.
P.S. : I haven't done any overclocking with neither card other than my CPU which was clocked lower when I had the GTX 970. Also, there are tons of adapters that come with the R9 390 which I can probably see why it's $10 more.

I know a lot of people complain because the 300 series is basically the older 200 series rebranded, but they fail to see that the engineering has been refined and there are some really good updates to this GPU. There are some small performance upgrades and better power management. Memory bandwith has been increased and there is now 8GB of it which allows for the 8GB frame buffer. It makes it to the upper tiers of graphics cards and I haven't had a game that it can't handle.

This card runs any Battlefield version on ultra at a constant 90+ FPS. I replaced an R9270X which ran the games at 60+ FPS. I didn't bother spending the extra $100 for the 390X and am glad I didn't. There is more than enough power here to run anything you run through it.

This card was put in place of 2 R9 270's. I saw a fairly nice increase in performance, the 8 gb of card memory is the key. Would have been 5 stars but this card is freaking huge, and runs a little hot. I have a full atx tower case and it barely fit. The AMD catalyst software is great and allows nice fan control, to tame the heat. Highly recommend this card to all.

This card has enuf power to run even the most demanding games. This is a good choice if you do not want to pay to much to get good porformance. On top of being good, this upgrade will last you a good 4 years garentee lifespan, or longer.

Well I been hyping my self for either gtx 970 or r9 390 for quiet some time. After months I decided to go back to AMD since 970 has only 4GB memory. So I bought r9 390 XFX since had best reviews in its class.
When I got this card. I went straight home, took my case out opened and took my old gtx 670 out. It still looks like new. With my old card been out I went and unpacked my new card and took it out of the box. Let me tell you this think has some measurements on it. Never the less I put it comfortably inside my medium case with no cable management inside. It fits with no problem. After hooking my PC back up and installing drivers I went straight to BF4. I maxed my graphic performance and turned performance system monitoring on. Not only I was able to play but this thing was spitting frames out. However I did have audio driver crash on 2 occasions, 2nd time was after running TeamSPeak my ingame audio just crashed and had no sound but TeamSpeak was working just fine. After some consulting and online searching I re-download driver and just reinstall it over already actual drivers I had no problem since. I cant talk about temperatures as I didn't even bother to test, but needless to say that since there is no coil whine or any other performance issues I didnt feel that was necessary step . I hope and believe I will be able to enjoy this card for couple years on 3 monitor set up.

Card gets pretty loud at times, my previous card was a Evga gtx960 2gb. The drivers needs work. xfx lifetime warranty is nice. Just for everyone who is wondering, this is not a reference card. It's comes at 1015.

This card does run a little hot under load from games like GTA5. GTA5 runs pretty smooth with almost max settings. I haven't really been able to max out a lot of games on this card but have gotten very close. The card takes one eight pin and one six pin. I actually had to buy a new power supply just to power this monster of a card. You may need a really big case and beefy power supply to be able to power this thing. Overall great card but a little overpriced.

There are definitely better cards on AMD and Nvidia out there, but this was a matter of convenience and without needing the crossfire bridge I got a pair to get my PC to double its abilities and run via 21:9 Ultrawide on most of my PC Games. Its been a solid investment and I recommend it if you want to pick up something that has some horsepower and ability to handle high demand games

The video card is very quiet relative to others I've had in the past. I have yet to hear the fans ramp up under load. When testing FPS vs my old card this card gave a significant boost, at least 3 times what the old card was, and graphic intensive games rarely dip below 45 fps mostly hover around 100 fps+
This is by far physically the largest card i've seen especially it length, but it can replace 2-3 older cards in crossfire.
I'm happy Best Buy has chosen to carry components like this in store stock its nice to be able to get something when you want it.

Had an AMD 7950 3Gcard.This 390 series card installed w/o problems. So far has performed well. It runs a little warmer but not hot. It was only slightly noisier due to dual fans. Never did get my free game since retailer could not produce the code but AMD in my opinion has a solid performer for the money.

This card is turning out to be a good card and has enough power to max out the newest games. I under stand nvidia may be more optimized and my play things a tad smoother but amd business ethics are better. They believe in non preparatory softwear and hardware to make cross compatibility with all hardwear manufactures and software developers. This is what I like to see in a company. And hopefully with dx12 the optimizing gets better

An awesome gpu that chews thru the games at ultra settings! with 8 gigs of vram plenty to run UHD monitor of pure eye candy! Highly recommended because it is with in 10-15% of the 390x stock and very overclockable to reach 390x performance for about $200 less. Awesome card and XFX is a great company!

I bought this to replace an AMD Radeon R9 290. The 290 was loud, and always ran hot. This card runs almost 50 degrees Fahrenheit cooler, and is almost silent despite having 2 huge fans! Plays Fallout 4 on ultra settings, Advanced Warfare on ultra settings, and Battlefield 4 on max settings. Product also has a lifetime warranty if bought through Best Buy!
