The Yale Assure Lock 2 is very stylish in its appearance and design. The compact nature of this is very pleasing. The lighted keypad is inline with modern door locks and allows for manual input during the dark.
The complete installation took about 15 minutes for me as I swapped out another electronic door lock system. The included installation guide is very detailed which was welcoming as it addresses many doors and situations a person could have installing. They also do include lots of hardware to install into. Only thing I did notice is if you have a metal door, you might need a different drill bit, but i installed on wood core door. The app does include some step by steps that could be helpful, which we used my wife's iPad to download to and walk through.
The steps to add the additional module were pretty easy and the booklet gave great directions. The hang-up I had was getting the door ajar sensor placed right but after a few tries it worked by just. Next getting it connected through the app was a little bit more slower than expected but it all connected and integrated on my network really well.
Getting this paired with the built in Apple Home Key was awesome, this was a function I really looked forward to trying out. This step took a little bit but was a breeze once I got our devices all connected through our HomeKit. Now when my wife comes home I get an alert on my apple tv and phone. Plus I can just house my iPhone and Apple Watch!
Overall this device is solid and has some amazing technology jam packed in it. While the downfall is the battery life in this, I think rechargeable batteries might be a good investment with this lock and just change them out every few weeks. Also buy a 9V battery and have handy incase batteries every do fully drain.
I hope future updates will address the WIFI and constant draw on battery life and improve. This is only a suggestion and no way hinders the technological masterpiece this device is to me. I love the full home integration for our front door now!

I recently installed a Yale door lock on my front door, and it has significantly enhanced my home security and convenience. The installation process was straightforward and took about 20 minutes, with clear and concise instructions that made it easy to follow. I only needed a basic screwdriver, and no professional help was required. The lock's sleek and modern design blends seamlessly with my door, adding a touch of sophistication to my home's entrance. It feels robust and well-constructed, giving me confidence in its durability.
One of the standout features of this smart door lock is the keyless entry, which allows me to unlock my door using a PIN code or my smartphone. The remote access feature is incredibly convenient, enabling me to lock and unlock my door from anywhere, whether I'm at work or on vacation. The lock responds quickly and reliably, and I haven't experienced any connectivity issues. The battery life is impressive, lasting several months on a single charge, which is a significant advantage.
The smart integration capabilities of this lock are also noteworthy. It seamlessly integrates with my smart home system, allowing me to control it using voice commands through my virtual assistant. The companion app is user-friendly and intuitive, offering various customization options such as setting up temporary access codes for guests and receiving real-time notifications about lock activity. These features provide an added layer of security and convenience.
Speaking of security, this smart door lock comes equipped with several advanced security features. The auto-lock function is particularly useful, automatically locking the door after a set period, so I never have to worry about forgetting to lock it. These features give me peace of mind, knowing that my home is well-protected.
Overall, this smart door lock has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance, design, and security. It has made my daily routine more convenient and has significantly improved my home's security. While it may be slightly more expensive than some other models on the market, the features and reliability it offers make it well worth the investment. I highly recommend this smart door lock to anyone looking to upgrade their home security with modern technology.

Buggy. Doesn't always work reliably with homekey. Won't hold a connection to a homepod.
Returned and never again with Yale.

I should preface the review by saying the main draw of this lock is the compatibility with Apple Home Key technology which literally allows you to unlock the door with just your iPhone. This does require a hub to control the Homekit such as the HomePod, HomePod mini, or even an Apple TV. If you do not already have an existing Apple hub and were not planning on buying one, then I can say that this lock should probably not be on your list.
Right out of the box, I was happy with the way the Yale Assure Lock 2 looked. It looks very sleek and minimalistic which is my ideal design aesthetic. Even my wife who has no interest in smart tech said "wow, it looks good."
Installation was not too difficult. There are very good instructions included which takes guesswork out of it. Admittedly while I am tech-savvy, I am not great at handiwork. Still, this was pretty straightforward. Once it is physically in place, setting up the app and Homekey was fairly seamless for me.
In terms of real world use, I was really happy with how well it worked. I just hold up my phone to the lock and it unlocks. It's actually quite fun at first to play with and my wife was hooked on it as well. The keypad is also able to be used for entry if your Home Key is not working for some reason. For some reason, I feel like the touch-sensitive locks in the US regardless of cost are all not great. Yale clearly wants the Apple Home Key to be the primary method and the touchkeys to be secondary. The keys are not that sensitive and honestly felt like it would just be easier to have a physical lock and key if you were trying to use it for that function. The lock speed is decent. One complaint that I had is the motor's sound. It does sound louder than previous smart locks that I have used.
Another thing that was concerning was the battery usage. This uses regular AA batteries which it actually was chewing through at a surprising rate. I don't know how long they are supposed to last but I would stay fairly vigilant about replacing the batteries. There is a way to charge the keypad with a 9V but I doubt most people just casually have a 9V battery hanging around if they come from work and they are locked out of their home. I think a physical and manual option to open in these scenarios would have been nice.
All in all, if you have an existing Apple home hub and want to jump into using Home Keys, then the Yale Assure Lock 2 is a good option. Otherwise, there are other options that are more attractive.

Over the years, i have been building my smart home, piece by piece and my goal was to build it around Apple HomeKit. I quickly discovered that not all things that I wanted were compatible, so I have a hodgepodge of the devices that work with Apple and Alexa. My family is basically an Apple crew. We all have iPhones, although we have some other devices, Apple is preferred. With that being said, this is the smart lock that I have been waiting for.
Before I got this one, I had a previous Yale Smart lock and it has worked flawlessly although I have to change the batteries more frequently than I would like. Installation on this one was essentially the same. I probably could have left the interior part of the lock in place and just replaced the exterior keypad, but I wanted to keep everything together and I will be using the old lock at my AirBNB.
Once I finished installing everything and setting it up in Apple HomeKit, i created an Apple Key and tried it out. There was little to no lag and it worked quite well. I created keys for everyone in the house and had them try it out and again, it was flawless. I am very impressed with not only the design and appearance of this lock, but the feature set as well. With the included sensor, you can tell if the door is closed or open and you can set it to auto lock at a certain time. Prior to having smart locks on all of my doors, I would always go through the house before bed time and check to make sure all of the doors were locked. I no longer have to do that since I can check in the app and manually lock the doors if need be. The only negative that I found and it’s typical with smart locks that have keypads, is they leave fingerprints. If you use the keypad often and dont have different codes for each user, your prints will show which numbers are used. Even with a four digit combination, that still leaves a ton of possibly combinations, but it’s just something to note. We wont typically use the keypad since everyone has iPhones and Apple Watches. I forgot to mention that Apple Key works with the Apple Watch as well. Another added benefit for me since I pretty much always wear my watch, but I dont always carry my phone.
I definitely think Yale is at the forefront of the smart lock front and they make probably the best looking locks available. I wouldnt hesitate to add another to my home. I definitely think this is the best lock on the market that I have tried and I would highly recommend it.

Smart lock with Apple Home Key compatibility

Assure Lock 2 is the latest smart lock from Yale with Apple Home Keys compatibility. This is a key-free smart lock that is compact and easy to install. Don't be fooled by the compact look, it is heavy and sturdy. The neat packaging box includes the smart lock, deadbolt, Wi-Fi smart module, DoorSense sensor, mounting hardware, 4 AA batteries, battery cover, instruction manual with guide for new hole marking.
The setup was quite easy. I replaced an existing deadbolt with this Yale smart lock and all I needed was a screwdriver. If you are making new hole for the lock, make sure to use the included template to drill them. You will need to connect the smart module to the lock to use the Wi-Fi functionality. This will help with remote lock and using other features. You will also need the included DoorSense sensor to be installed for the alerts on door lock status as well as for the auto lock when the door is closed.
Since this lock does not come with any physical keys, you will need to use the Yale app or setup Apple Home Keys if you are in Apple ecosystem. You will be notified on your Apple devices like TV, iPad etc.
Apple Wallet app will store your Apple Home Keys and you can just tap the lock with your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock the door. You can set to receive notifications on all your Apple devices including TV when the lock is paired with HomeKit. HomeKit also allows you to setup home automations. Yale says the phone can be used to unlock even after the phone battery has died. This might never happen, but it is good to have in those situations. All the customizations for the lock including the alerts, setting up guest codes, etc. are all done on the Yale app.
This smart lock uses 4 AA batteries to operate. They are supposed to last 6+ months. You will get alerts on Yale or Apple Home app when the battery is low. If the battery dies and you are locked out, you can connect a 9V battery to the keypad to unlock the door. The smart lock is also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, Philips Hue, Smart Things.
This is a really well built smart lock with added features for Apple ecosystem. As I replace all my locks with smart locks like this, I am getting comfortable with not having to carry any physical keys for the home. If you are looking to make your home smarter with smart locks, this one is highly recommended!

Good Smart Lock Overall But Some Issues
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Overall, the Yale Assure Lock 2 is a good smart lock and is an improvement over their previous versions, but it does have some issues.
Pros:
* Installation is relatively straight forward. Especially if you are just replacing an existing deadlock. All the hardware you need is contained in the box and you even get different screws to accommodate different door thicknesses. If you are installing on a new door, templates are provided allowing for hole cutouts.
* The hardware seems well built and sturdy. Time will tell how long it lasts, but initially, it seems solid.
* It works with a number of smart home setups including Apple (my setup). The Home Keys is a great addition that allows the unlocking of the lock with your iPhone, Apple Watch, or Siri. You can also use automations within Apple Home to set conditions like turning on the porch lights when the lock is unlocked.
* A wifi module is included that allows the lock to connect to your home wifi for use with Siri or other smart assistants.
Cons:
* Battery life seems like it may become an issue. I've had the locked installed for 3 days and the batteries are already down 10%.
* The keypad doesn't light up as you approach the door so you can't see the numbers to enter. You have to press the Yale logo to get it to light up before entering your code.
* If the batteries die while you are not at home, you have no easy way to get in as there is no key. You can use a 9 volt however to temporarily unlock the door if locked out due to dead batteries.
* The wifi cuts out on occasion for no reason. Every other day or so, I get an alert from the Yale app that the lock disconnected from my wifi. Then 10 mins later, get a notification it is connected again.
If you are looking for a smart lock that works well within the Apple ecosystem, this is a good option. It does what it says and unlocking with your iPhone or Apple Watch is very convenient!

I am not new to Digital Locks like this... I have used the August products for almost 5 years now. So adding this to my garage door, was just a perfect extension of our digital home.
So first... I was a bit confused when I first started the installation process, as I downloaded the YALE app, and it opened up... BUT!!! there was already a lock in it, and I was very familiar with the screen, so I had to go back and forth a couple times... to come to realize, that August and Yale must be the same company, or they at a minimum use the same app code. So, if you already have an August lock or possible another companies, don't get confused like me for a minute.
Installation: Will take give or take an hour depending on your comfort level with taking out a lock, checking the new spacing. MOST doors with in the last 30 years will probably be compatible right out of the gate, with nothing for you to do, then just install. But do take the time to double check everything. Yale gave a very handy measuring page, and step by step on what to check, and what to adjust based on how your door was setup. Mine was "standard", and I didn't have to make any adjustments, other then extend the deadbolt size with the simple twist (instructions walk you through it).
Taking my time, the most difficult part was actually putting the back side of the lock on, took me a few minutes to get everything lined up, and the lock stopped into place, and I had to go to the "next" page of the instructions to know where the screw was to hold it all together. But none the less, took me about 30 minutes to do the physical installation.
Digital setup: Very easy to walk through, step by step.. but you need to stay close to your lock.
Pro Tip: If you have multiple wifi networks in your house (like I do). Set your phone to the wifi network you want the lock attached to. The app won't ask what network you want to use. I have a dedicated IoT network in my house, so I had to switch my phone over to it.
Pro Tip #2: While the app will remind you when batteries are running low. Set a calendar entry for about 6 months from now, to change the batteries. That is the life I get on my August, and have to think that will be the same here. This way you won't get caught locked out.
First, the app will walk through physical calibration, this is the lock testing how far it has to go to unlock and lock the door. Easy simple.
Then it is going to walk you through setting up the Apple Wallet key... this is what I got the lock for, and it took a minute of frustration. 1) You can't scan the code they give you, since there is no QR on it. you will need to manually enter the code. 2) I had to do it three times, because I have so many devices in my house, I didn't see "Lock" was the new Yale lock. Wish it said Yale Lock.
Once setup, it added the digital lock to my wallet... so easy to tap and use now. Super cool.
Simple, just tap the phone and it opens.
Now the digit code... right in the app you set it up. This is going to be so useful when doing yard work, when I may not have my phone with me (I set this lock on my Garage). or if Lock myself out of the house, and my phone is inside.
So now I am setup....
Pro Tip #3: Consider changing your KNOB to one that doesn't have a lock on it.
I have learned the hard way that people may lock that bottom knob, and that then defeats the entire purpose of having a digital lock.
Pros: It is a digital lock, and all ready to rock and role. Simple Battery replacement, 4 AA batteries, nothing crazy, nothing recharging. Digital Wallet is a killer feature. WiFi options for remote opening when not at home.
Cons: The digital key pad for me is a little big. I wish it was maybe just a plane looking lock without the keys, and then the option for an emergency physical key use. with the keypad installable somewhere else... just an idea.
It is a bit bulky on the inside of the door. That may not be an issue for some, but if you are going for a super elegant look, this may not be the best option for you. PERFECT for me and the garage.
Some followup Tips:
Learn the features of the app, especially how to add family/friends to it. GREAT and easy way to "share a key" digitally, and can be full time, or just temporarily.
Able to remote open and close, (especially for a garage), allows me to let friends in, to grab a tool, and lock it again remotely. (I already do that on the garage door as well, but now have a second option).
And... when someone tells you that you are opening yourself up to hacking and people getting into your house. simply, remind them... it will take a LONG time of someone standing next to your door with a laptop and equipment to hack in... takes them just a few seconds to smash the window.
Enjoy your new lock

Smart Lock Great For Home and Small Business

Over the past few years, I have replaced my standard deadbolts on my house with keypad entry. I prefer these types of locks better than carrying around a key with me. If I go for a jog, I don’t want to carry a set of house keys with me. However, with a standard numeric keypad, I keep worrying that someone could watch me put in my code or just tell the pattern from the worn keys. Now with the Assure Lock 2, I don’t have to worry about it.
Installation can be done with a few simple tools. I would recommend using a power drill just due to the number of screws that have to be used, but you can still do it the old-fashioned way if you must. The Assure Lock 2 should fit most existing doors. The installation instructions come with different templates to help match your existing door. As for the hardware, there are direct sized screws for you to use depending on the style and thickness of the door. If you download the app on your iPhone (you will need it later for the key anyway), it has videos to help walk you through each step of the installation. In all, you can do it in under an hour. If you have the right tools, it will likely take you have that time.
The operation of the Assure Lock is excellent. Once you have it paired up to your Apple Keys, you do to get into your house is tap your phone or watch to the lock. The lock will then unlock. No need for passcodes or even your fingerprint. IF you want o use passcodes, you can. These are effective if you want to allow someone access to your house, especially for a limited time such as taking care of a pet when you are on vacation. You simply create the code and give it to someone else. They can use the keypad to get in. You can also easily delete the code on your phone when the other party no longer needs it. You can even store up to 99 codes on your system. This is great for business to know who is accessing their property and when.
The lock does require 4 AA batteries to work. A set of batteries is included. However, if the batteries do go out, you are not locked out of your home. You can remotely charge the system with a 9-volt battery from the outside. If your phone needs charging, the lock can still be used by Apple Home Keys to get in for hours after a charge is needed.
In the end, I really love the Assure Lock 2. This lock takes care of many of the problems I had with the old lock. It automatically locks when the door is closed, which even gives greater peace of mind at bedtime. I highly recommend this lock for home or business use.

The Yale Assue Lock 2 is a Wifi enabled smart deadbolt that can easily replace your existing deadbolt without much modification. This lock replaces a different smart lock that installs on the interior of the door without removing the keyed portion of the deadbolt. The lock also had an option for an add on keypad that would usually lose connection or have a dead battery. The Yale Assure Lock 2 replaces the keyed portion of the deadbolt without any option of a back up method to open the door if the battery dies other than using a 9 volt battery to charge the lock enough to open it. I know I don't carry around a 9 volt battery so it's important to change the batteries once you receive a low batter warning in the app. I appreciate that Yale used AA batteries and not special lithium batteries in the lock because AA batteries are usually readily available. Installation is fairly simple and went without a hitch. I had to drill a few hole in order to add the door sense sensor so I could enable the auto lock feature but that did not take too much extra time. Installation directions can be found in the Yale app which are great because is shows detailed pictures to make installation a breeze. The lock includes a wifi module that allows you to add wifi allowing for remotes access to the lock via the app. The Yale lock app is essentially the same app as the August smartlock app so if your currently use any August locks the Yale lock can be seen in the same household as long as you register them to the same account. This newer version of the lock features Apple home that allows you to open the lock by simply tapping your iPhone or Apple Watch to the lock. This feature worked great for me evertime I have tried it. The lock did show as unresponsive 1 time however that was attributed to HomeKit issue related to my Apple TV. You can also create temporary entry codes for guests and see who entered via their code in the app. This is great if you're using it on a rental property or short term rental. Overall Yale improved an already good lock with new features such as apple Key. I would definitely recommend this lock if you are looking for a smart lock with a keypad

I have had a keypad deadbolt on my front door for years, and had been eyeing one like this for awhile. I had previously installed a Yale Assure Lock on my outdoor storage door, and I am very happy with it so I was excited to get this one installed.
Installation and setup was very simple. This really is no different than installing any other deadbolt lock. The instructions are well laid out and made installation and the setup with the app and Homekit stress free.
I do not see the benefit of owning this lock if you do not have an iPhone and use HomeKit. While it took a little while to get used to my habits, with HomeKit, the door automatically unlocks when I approach the door and locks when I get home and when I leave. This is incredibly helpful when I come home with my hands full of groceries or anything else.
If you don't have your phone, you can also unlock it with your Apple watch or with the touch keypad. You cans et up plenty of guest options as well and I like having the ability to lock and unlock my door remotely.
I am very pleased with this deadbolt and look forward to some improvements along the way. I plan on buying one more for the door that leads out to my patio.

Pretty Good Apple Home Key Lock

Smart locks are a convenient and easy way to gain access to our homes and also share access with friends and family when needed. As someone who is pretty heavily invested into the Apple ecosystem, when I look for a new smart lock, I want to make sure that it supports Apple Home Keys. I have owned a competitors lock, and it is safe to say, this lock is much better than that other famous big competitor in the Apple home key market. That is not to say that this lock is perfect, it has flaws, but overall, the pros outweigh the cons.
PROS:
- Keypad is easy to use and illuminates well at night. Do wish it was tactile instead of touchless though.
- The locking mechanism is very fast, this is a big part of why I prefer this lock over other similar ones. The deadbolt will unlock instantaneously as if you were to use a key and manually turn it, making using your Apple watch or iPhone very convenient with how fast you can get in the house.
- Apple Home Keys works great. Have absolutely no issues with it, setting it up with my existing Home Key was a breeze. Works on my phone and watch.
- Build quality is pretty solid. The deadbolt and plate are of good quality with heft to them, the keypad as well has a nice solid frame to it and feels weatherproof. The quality of the innards are good as well, good looking steel used, very neat, simple, clean.
- install was pretty easy. I appreciate that there is a step by step video, however, it is very detailed, a little too detailed. If you have a standard door like most people do, then it's just as easy as replacing any other deadbolt. It does have some extra features like the wire to feed through and the modules to install, but it's all very easy and detailed in the app.
- You can easily make codes for multiple people and share them out
- Uses AA batteries
CONS
- I really hate that this thing does not have a key option... this means that if the batteries die, something happens where the keypad doesn't recognize your code, an emergency happens, you can't get into your house. There is no way to bypass it with a key or latch lock or anything, so keep that in mind!
- Wish the keypad had tactile buttons instead of a touchpad.
- why doesn't it have a key!!! I know I said it but really is the reason it is 4/5 stars.

The Yale Assure Lock 2 is a Smart Lock that can be controlled via two separate apps and has different ways of locking and unlocking. The dead bolt has a Keyless Wi-Fi Deadbolt that supposed Apple Home Keys technology. This allows you to unlock the deadbolt by tapping your iPhone to the touchscreen display. So far this has worked well with no issues as of yet. The dead bolt supports locking and unlocking using the Yale Access app. Using the app allows you to control the dead bolt with a Bluetooth connection. You have to be within Bluetooth range of the dead bolt in order to control it. The only way I was able to control the app remotely or via a longer range than Bluetooth was by using Apple Home Kit. It allows me to control the app using the Home app. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with my Home Kit connection or the dead bolt because it takes 15-20 seconds in order for the dead bolt to respond with commands from the Home app. If I lock and unlock the dead bolt manually it takes just as long or if not longer before receiving a notification from the Home app. The dead bolt came packaged with very to read and follow directions. I had somewhat of a challenge getting the 2 screws to attach the mounting bracket and keypad on the other side of the door. I ended up removing the screws that hold the deadbolt latch in the door. This allowed me to move the deadbolt latch around slightly to get the screws to go and attach the mounting bracket and keypad. After the screws were connected, I then screwed the smaller screws to secure the deadbolt latch to the door. I wish the Yale app would allow you to control the app via your home’s WiFi network for those times when Home Kit is not working all that great. Overall, the build quality is great and locking and unlocking the deadbolt is very smooth.

Next Gen Lock - Solid & Secure

I've tried "smart locks" over the years. The early generations were not good with offering a long lifespan or a solution for extreme weather. This next Yale generation of locks seems to be an improvement on past generations.
We needed a new deadbolt lock for an exterior door which gets a lot of use. We decided to try the Yale Assure Lock 2. We live in Arizona where the extreme heat (115+ degrees) and tremendous amount of dust in the air are a problem we have to live with every summer. We like the construction of the Yale lock. It is solid and the keypad features a housing that is resistant to dust and debris flying through the air.
The installation process was easy and quick. Both the instructions that came with the lock along with online videos of the installation process were informative. I had the lock up and running within 15 minutes of taking it out of the box. The mechanism seems solid and secure. Time will tell if the lock will hold up to years of extreme heat in the desert, but our initial impression of this lock is very positive.

I wanted a keyless deadbolt with physical buttons that I could control with my phone and this was one of the few options. Ill be curious to see how long the batteries last with the wifi module. I had it professionally installed since the door did not have a prior deadbolt on it. The physical installation was fine but getting it set up in the app was where the pain points came in. The app is not intuitive to use, the lock settings are confusing, and it kept erroring out while the installer was trying to set it up. I eventually told the guy to leave and I would take care of it later. It took me a couple hours of messing with it to finally get it set up in the app. I still havent been able to get the door sensor to work. It is installed to a tee for how the instructions say it needs to be installed. I have calibrated it probably 10 times now and it never works. It always says the door is closed. Ive given up on that and dont really care anymore.
I also cannot get it connected to Homekit. It says my lock is already part of another home in Homekit. Ive looked all over my Homekit setup and do not see any Yale lock to remove from my home. I need to contact support to see if they can help since I haven't found a forum with instructions on how to resolve that.
It looks really good though very sleek. It’s ok but I expected more from it honestly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
