Solid Lock, works remotely with internet & HK

Good lock that works with Apple HomeKit app and Yale Access app. Decent improvement over their previous version YRD226 which required a Yale Connect Hub for internet access. Wi-Fi is built into this one within the module. Much cleaner set-up and ordering this version gets you everything you need for HK and Wi-Fi (also works with Bluetooth and AppleWatch Yale app). Hardware is slightly condensed over previous model.
Yale Support is 24/7 if there are any issues with set-up. I installed two Yale model YRD450 locks so far. Printed and app instructions (with videos/images) for physical installation of lock are quite good. Note, DoorSense (magnet) if installing into door frame, I suggest using a 9/16 spade drill bit. In their literature they show in a picture a 1/2 drill bit (too small, DoorSense magnet won't fit) and they reference in copy 5/8" drill bit (hole will be slightly too large--a metal door with cause the magnet to pop out and stick to door side--on first door I had to use silicone sealer in the hole to solve the issue "by gluing in the magnet" so it wouldn't pop out. The 9/16" drill bit worked just right on second door--magnet goes in snuggly (takes a few taps from a rubber hammer) and stays in place flush with the door frame.
On the first one I had to call support for help (module had HK Code + Yale QR code AND Lock Hardware had different HK Code + Yale QR code--if this happens use the lock HK Code and QR code, not the module. The second lock didn't have this issue and I simply used the codes on the hardware and had no difficulty following the Yale Access app directions.
I can recommend. I do hope they last 15+ years. Nice to have remote access to lock and unlock doors, see who is going in/out, provide temp password entry to guests, etc.
Now maybe I'll have time to clean and paint my doors!

It works pretty well overall. The Yale app is pretty slick too. Makes a satisfying chime when locked. Keypad only lights up when you need it (press the Yale logo). So, it looks pretty sleek as well. Highly recommended

I walked into Best Buy knowing I wanted to get a keyless lock and the wonderful associate who helped my and answered all of my questions was amazing. After looking at several, I decided on this one and since I didn’t know how to install it myself (truthfully, I was too lazy to read the manual), I also paid to have someone come out and install it for me. The lock works both with an app and with a touch screen on the outside of the door. To lock it, one only has to push the Yale button on the top (if you are leaving the house) and to lock it once you are inside, you manually just have to flip to lock to horizontal mode. Whether you are inside or out, you can also use the app to lock/unlock it and on the app, when it is locked it will sound a chime and turn the circle red, and when it is unlocked, it will sound another chime and turn the circle green. Super easy to use.

Great doorlock, extremely quiet. The Yale app always works; great to have the option of unlocking or locking the deadbolt from the phone. We use this lock for an AirBnB and it is extremely easy to set up a temporary passcode for any guests that arrive. The only drawback is the battery life. I have to replce the batteries about every 2 months. I did expect a longer battery life.

Great smart lock, the set up was pretty simple for the most part and took me about an hour from start to finish on an existing lock. The app isn’t as intuitive as expected but works great once you get to know it. The auto unlock feature is great.

Works well. Easy to install and operate. Only problem I had was with the depth of latch hole. Make sure you measure that before installing and extend it if necessary, otherwise it blocks the gears and can damage the lock.

Very Smart Lock

I got the Lock with the Wi-Fi module. It works great I can now unlock and lock my door from anywhere.
You know when you get that sick feeling, when you are already halfway to your destination, that you think you left your door unlocked? Well not anymore. Now I can check it and lock/unlock from my phone.
Installation took about an hour.
This lock comes with a smart sensor. This sensor can determine if the door is open or shut.
You have a choice to either screw mount to your inside door trim or you can recess it into the doorframe above the deadbolt strike plate. I chose the in-frame concealed option to make it look nicer. This does make the install take a little longer. Note – I used a spade bit with the screw tip and it was a bit aggressive and chipped the small area between the sensor hole and the deadbolt hole. In retrospect, in my situation I should have used a normal bit or taped the area I was drilling. Just a heads up.
The Yale Access app walks you through the set up. Paper instructions are also included. I think I went back and forth between the two.
The only thing I noticed is that it asked me to scan the QR code on the lock, and I ended up having to scan the QR code on the quick set up card that came with the packaging. No big deal.
Once set up, you can Lock and lock/unlock your door from anywhere. You have multiple ways to do this. Here is a list I came up with. (Probably missing something)
Enter access code into the touchpad. (Touchpad lights up the numbers when you touch the Yale logo.)
Set an access code for others and invite them via the app.
Use your Voice assistant to lock/unlock
Use your Apple watch to lock/unlock
You can also Auto lock/unlock using location services. So, when you leave home (at least 200 meters) it will lock, and when you return home and are within a few feet of the lock, it will unlock.
I do not have an Apple watch, so I cannot comment on that. But I did set up both Alexa and Google Home. So now I can use voice assist to lock/unlock my door.
I also noticed that the app did not have a scheduler, so I used Alexa to create a routine and that worked perfect. I wanted to make sure the door locked every night at a certain time.
The app does have a timer, so you can program the door to lock after the door has been shut ‘X’ amount of time. (Example 10 sec. to 30 min)
You can also choose to get Smart Alerts. This will push a notification to you with the status of the door.
You can set up notifications for things like; door left ajar, device locked or unlocked by specific user, or auto unlocked or one touch keypad locked.
The app also has a history tab where you can see all lock/unlock etc. Great feature to see who is coming and going, especially if you assigned each person their own access code.
Appearance wise, the outside touchpad is slick and clean looking. The inside looks nice as well, but it is a little thicker than others. It sticks out about 1-5-8” from the door (2.25” from door to turn knob).
I really like the inside indicator light as well. You can choose to enable or disable this feature. I have chosen to enable it. It allows me to easily see from across the room if the door is locked. It simply flashes about every 7 seconds indicating status. (Red = locked, Green= Unlocked, Blue+ battery getting low) etc.
The gear on the keypad side will also flash colors to indicate low battery, successful pairing etc.
What more can I say. This lock is quality made and has all the features you could ask for.
I rate it A++

The Assure Lock 2 is our second smart lock from Yale, as we’ve been users of the original Yale Assure Lock (connected by August) for several years. This new model comes in two versions: keyed and keyless, just like the original. This time around we got the keyless version, though it is equipped with an external emergency battery terminal, so even if the batteries do go out while you’re away, a 9V battery is all you need to fire up the keypad and enter your code to unlock the door. If you want fully keyless entry, the doorknob either needs to be left unlocked or replaced with a non-locking knob or paddle. I recommend the latter to eliminate the risk of being locked out.
The installation process for this lock is simple and straightforward, as long as your door’s measurements fit the specified requirements. A tear out ruler/guide in the instruction manual will help you verify all the measurements, and the only tool you’ll need is a Phillips head screwdriver. It comes with everything you need to install a new deadbolt if your door doesn’t already have one. If you have an existing deadbolt you’re replacing, in most cases you can simply replace the old latch with the one that comes with this smart lock as it fits a range of door thicknesses and configurations; its length is adjustable to fit either a 2-3/8” backset or 2-3/4” backset, by simply twisting the neck of the deadbolt. Security screws are included if you want to reinforce the strike plate with longer screws.
If your existing bore hole is smaller than a 2-1/8” diameter, you can remove the hole adapter, so the interior bracket can fit into smaller 1-1/2” face bores. The unit comes with three different length color-coded mounting screws to accommodate different door thicknesses from 1-3/8” to 2-1/4” thick. Once the deadbolt, exterior keypad, and interior bracket are installed, there’s only one wire connector to clip into the inside lock unit. The attachment screws are located in the battery bay behind the 4 AAA batteries, so they’re hidden for a clean, hardware free look on the outside. There’s an additional DoorSense sensor that can be installed either on the frame adjacent to the interior lock or flush mounted inside the jamb. We choose that latter as we were having issues with the sensor working properly surface-mounted, since our door is recessed a bit from the inside trim.
This smart lock communicates with a smartphone via Bluetooth by default, and with the optional WiFi module connects to your home network for remote access from anywhere with an internet connection. It does not require a separate bridge/gateway for WiFi, as the previous model did, so that’s one less thing that you need to have plugged into a nearby outlet. Just be sure not to install or remove the module while the batteries are in the lock!
After powering up, you can set up the smart lock using the Yale Access app which is identical to the August Home app, as August was acquired by Yale, and they are pretty much fully integrated. If you already have an August account, you can use those credentials to login into the Yale Access app, otherwise you will need to register a new account. Adding the lock to the app is easy and there are guided steps with pictures and video for each step (including lock installation). At the end of the process, you’ll calibrate the DoorSense sensor, so the lock can detect whether the door is open, closed, or ajar.
We are able to easily lock and unlock the door by tapping a button in the app, using voice commands via Alexa integration, and have assigned everyone in our household unique PIN codes for entry (no limit on number of codes). You can create restricted passcodes for guests: recurring - on a weekly schedule, or temporary – with a specific start and end time/date. Just note that for recurring codes, while you can choose multiple days of the week, only one time interval is allowed across all the selected days, so for example if the code is valid on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 to 3PM the same code cannot also be allowed from 5 to 6PM on a different day; a differing recurring time interval would require a separate code. Users also cannot share the same PIN code on the same lock, so each access code must be a unique number (4-8 digits).
Once quirk with the app is that if you have multiple Yale Smart locks on the same property, like we have on the front and back doors, ‘Owners’ will be able to see all the devices listed under their user profile and you can use the same code on both locks. However, guest codes only have one device assigned per user, so if you want someone to have access to more than 1 smart lock, you’ll need to create a ‘duplicate’ user for each additional lock. While you can create multiple entry codes for a ‘new guest’ at the same time (e.g. for front and back doors, though the app doesn’t label which is which), the app won’t allow you to choose the same PIN code for both locks during user setup. After you have a separate guest code for each lock, you can go back and edit the ‘duplicate user’ to use the same PIN for both locks, as long as the code isn’t already in use by another user of that lock.
The lock can auto-lock after a set amount of time has elapsed after being unlocked, from 30 seconds to 30 minutes, but only if the accompanying DoorSense indicates that the door is closed; auto-lock won’t trigger if the door is detected as open. You can also pause auto-lock using the passage mode button located in the inside lock panel to the upper right of the thumbturn. Pressing this button temporarily disables auto-lock, for example if you’re taking out the trash, until the door is locked again. There is an auto-unlock feature as well that will automatically unlock the door after it detects you have been away (more than 200m, using your smartphone GPS location) and subsequently returned and are near the door. You can optionally enable a door ajar notification if the door has been left open for a specified amount of time, 1 to 30 minutes, by setting up a Smart Alert in the app. Strangely, there’s no option to turn on push notifications for jams if the deadbolt fails to engage the plate, though the lock unit will audibly beep at the time of the jam.
The touch keypad on the outside has a smooth matte finish, which doesn’t pick up fingerprints as readily as the prior model’s glossy finish. When locked, wake the lock by touching anywhere on the keypad, and the numbers will light up. The touchpad is responsive and plays an audible tone each time a key is pressed. For security, the keypad will timeout for 1 minute after a default limit of 5 incorrect entries. You can set the attempt limit from 3 to 10 tries and lockout interval from 10 seconds to 3 minutes in the app. You can one-touch lock the unit by pressing on the Yale logo on the keypad. I like this functionality much better than the prior model’s “touch anywhere” one-touch lock feature as it reduces the likelihood of accidental locking while the door is open.
So far, the lock has been working well and we haven’t had any issues. You do have to make sure the door is fully closed because if your door is off by only a sliver, the lock may jam during auto-locking if the deadbolt latch doesn’t line up perfectly with the strike plate. The only unknown at this point is battery life, since we’ve only had the unit for less than a month, and there’s no battery life meter. With the previous model we change the batteries every 6 months or so, though it uses a WiFi bridge to reduce power consumption, so hopefully this lock will perform similarly with the WiFi module and not go through batteries quickly! The LED indicator inside and the gear icon on the keypad flash different colors when the batteries are running low, and you can also set the interior LED to always display a status LED, though this will consume more battery. We love that this lock has AirBnB integration too, as we rent out rooms in our home on the platform, so after booking, a temporary entry code will automatically be created for guests for the duration of their stay.

Perfect lock especially to give temporary access

First thing I want to talk about with this lock is installing it and setting it up. You can do that using the printed guide that comes with the package or through the app which you'll definitely want to download. Install is really easy and straightforward. The measuring guide in the printed manual is especially helpful and easy to use to verify if any modifications are going to be needed and which settings or hardware to use. Luckily the door on my house was perfect and everything fit without having to make any adjustments.
There is one thing to note though, there were a couple steps that were contradicting between the printed version and the app version. I was still able to get through the installation without any issues though. The only thing I had to drill for was the door sensor that goes in the jamb.
Once installed the app walks you through getting it all setup and connected to wifi. This couldn't be much easier. I had everything working within minutes. The app is really easy to use and navigate as well with a simple but effective design.
There are a lot of pros in using a smart lock like this. I often have family or close friends come to the house to take care of our dogs when we're away for long periods of time. This makes it so much easier to do that. No more hiding a key somewhere for them. Best of all, you don't even have to plan it. If there's some emergency where someone needs to get in the door, you can just go into the app and unlock it from there yourself. Or if it's someone that might repeatedly come in, you can set them up with their own code. You should definitely get a code set up right away though even if you don't need it. Unlocking and locking the door from the app works great until the wifi goes out. The lock still works without it, but you'll have to enter the code directly, so getting a code setup should be a priority.
Another great benefit to this is if you only need to give someone temporary access, like a dog or house sitter. You no longer have to worry about getting your key back or if you can trust that they don't make a copy. Just give them a code and when they no longer need access you can just revoke the code and not worry.
The one downside to this unit is that being battery-powered, when they die there's no way to open the door from the outside. According to Yale, the app will start to give you notifications once your battery level starts to get low. Unfortunately though there's no way to check the level yourself. This is something I feel Yale needs to address. You shouldn't have to rely on a notification to know when you need to change the batteries. What if they were barely over the warning level and you leave town for a long time? You could always replace the batteries anyway to be safe, but there really should be a way to check the level yourself anytime. Also, if this is a real concern for you, they do have a version that also has a key to unlock it.
Overall though this lock works perfectly. I haven't had a single issue with it and it's made life much easier. Not being able to check the battery level really is the only negative I could find, but I would still definitely recommend this Yale lock.

Excellent Smart Home Lock with Apple & Google!
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
BOTTOM LINE: The Yale Assure Lock is an excellent addition to our smart home! It has support for Apple HomeKit and Google Home, works easily via phone control or with a keypad, and is small and elegant fitting into your home. The installation process can be a bit particular, but overall it works simply and beautifully!
PROS:
- Unboxing this I was instantly impressed with the size of the keypad and the matte elegance of it! The design is very minimalist and doesn’t make it look like an over the top techy piece on your front door.
- Overall installation was straight forward. The Yale app does a nice job walking you through the step by step, and it has all the parts you need to adapt to your door. It took me some time but I think it will be easy enough for people to figure out.
- Once installed, the setup process was very easy! Once again the Yale app proved to be very helpful and easy to use. The WiFi module connected to the internet very quickly and I was able to be ready to go in no time.
- I can’t say enough how much I like the touchscreen keypad. It’s matte and hides the numbers unless you approach it to type in the numbers. Very sleek, very easy to use, and is a big selling point that I can use a keypad and not need to carry keys or even my phone to use it.
- I was able to integrate this with both my Apple HomeKit and Google Home. I liked I can use my Google speakers to control it or I can use my Apple HomeKit to control the lock along with all my other smart devices.
CONS:
- The lock can be a bit particular with the placement of where the deadbolt goes into the hole in the doorframe. It needs to fit perfectly with minimal interference in order to work well. I get this makes sense, but I wish the lock had some more force behind it so I can lock the door more snug to the frame.
- The lock runs on AA batteries. While that makes sense for quick battery replacement, I wish it was a rechargeable piece instead so the lock could monitor battery levels too.

Easy Smart Home Upgrade - Yale Assure Lock 2
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I was excited to get the Yale Assure Lock 2 as most of my home is now considered "smart" since lights, cameras and appliances are all supported by smart devices. Locking my doors was the missing piece and Yale locked up that piece of the puzzle! The Yale Assure Lock 2 was super easy to install and setup and is one of the best looking devices I saw based on my search for a smart lock.
This model is a keyless option an is a complete replacement for your existing deadbolt. It is operated by using the Yale Access app, a keypad on the exterior or a manual switch on the interior. Some locks provide integration with existing lock mechanisms, the Yale Assure Lock 2 completely (almost) replaces the existing lock. And of course it can be setup in a new door as well. In my case, it replaced an existing deadbolt setup from another manufacturer but I did end up using the existing strike plate on the doorframe. The placement is in a metal door leading to/from the garage and the existing plate worked with the Yale lock and saved me from having to drill new holes.
Set Up - As mentioned earlier this is a replacement lock and was super easy to install. Once the existing deadbolt unit was removed, I used the included measuring guide to make sure the Yale lock would fit and also to determine which hardware to use for my door size. The lock ships with an instruction manual and there is also instructions available on the app. I watched the videos on the app to familiarize myself with the lock and used the hard copy manual when installing. You will need a philips head screwdriver for the install assuming you are replacing an existing lock and not installing for the first time. However, Yale does provide measuring guides for installing on a new door as well.
Once the physical install is completed (about 30 minutes) it's time to calibrate the lock and customize the features with the Yale Access app. Unfortunately I can't use the sensor for door ajar and other features, but I knew this going into the install. Eventually I'll drill a hole in the frame and install the flush mount option for the sensor. The app is very easy to use for calibration and feature setup and Apple Home Kit is supported if you want to go that route. The lock also supports Apple Watch, which is great so you don't even need your phone to unlock. My lock calibrated and was ready for use within minutes, it was so simple yet full of features!
Yale Access app - the app allows for remote unlocking/locking, auto-locking features, DoorSense features and notifications, setting up home and user profiles, etc. The app is secured with Commercial Grade 2 security including encryption so it gives you that piece-of-mind for the security of your home. I set myself up as the home owner and created the keypad code for use from the exterior side. I also added my wife by setting up her profile and sending an invite via text. Codes can also be setup for guests which is a nice option.
Operation - The Yale Assure Lock 2 is super easy to operate either manually or electronically. With Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities it can be operated from near or far. From the interior there is a manual latch to lock manually. Externally there is a keypad only, so you'll need to setup a code if you want to open it manually (not using phone or watch). For locking simply touch the "Yale" logo and the door locks. For unlocking, touch the "Yale" logo, enter your code and hit the "check" button. For Apple Watch it's just lock and unlock, but that's all that's really needed. The app then allows for all the additional features and settings. The lock works very smoothly and after a couple weeks there have been no issues.
Pros:
- Made by Yale, one of the most trusted names in locks
- Well made and very good looking, the brushed nickel matches my existing handle perfectly
- Ease of installation, set up and operation
- Integration with Apple Home
- Lifetime warranty for finish and mechanical parts
- Feels very secure
Cons:
- Setting up entry codes was a bit confusing at first (reaching to find a con!)
The Yale Assure Lock 2 with WiFi is the perfect option for replacing an existing lock or adding it to a new home. It's well made, secures your home and provides the convenience of being able to operate it via BT or WiFi. All the features give me that added sense of security when away from home. I would recommend this lock to anyone who wants to make their home smarter!

If you owned the Yale Assure like I do, then you will love this one. Like the previous, it is top notch quality built and very easy to install. I really like the smaller design with the square shape and rounded corners, it looks modern and elegant. The physician installation is very simple even for newcomers. This lock works with 4 double AAs batteries which are also included. Batteries are advertised to last 6 month but that will depend on the constant use. You will have to download the Yale access app to complete the setup to start using the smart features.
The locking function works beautifully like the previous version and it is quiet as well. The touch pad is very responsive and like before you have to wake it up to use it. To wake up the touchpad, tap the Yale logo. The app is easy to use. There are plenty of features with this lock and one of my favorites is the ability to share virtual keys. The auto unlock feature is another of my favorites. This lock is the Wi-Fi version and something to appreciate you don’t have to use a separate bridge to be connected like in the past. This works with bluetooth out of the box. This lock can be set up with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Homekit. It is also advertised to be Matter compatible whenever that becomes available. By changing the modules you can make it work with other wireless technology like Z-Wave. Modules are sold separately.
Overall this is a great smart lock and a great upgrade if you have a previous gen. It has great built quality, it is easy to use and install. It comes with plenty of smart features and if you like to use physical keys they have one with that option too. In the box you get everything needed to get started. The Lock, strike plate, batteries, Wi-Fi module, installation kit, door sensor and manuals.

An electronic lock should be easy to install and easy to use. I’ve tried a few of them, and they’ve all been a little bit lacking. The Lockley lock is impressive, but ended up being a little complicated. Euffy has a simple lock installation and even leaves your existing deadbolt in place. The downside is finding a placed for the separately mounted keypad.
Yale takes a different approach which keeps the installation simple and compact. There's a single unit mounted on the back door. The unit has a place to mount the wi-fi module for those models that come with one. A door sensor mounts on the interior frame near the lock unit. This allows the lock to determine if the door is open or closed. The outside is both elegant and functional. The outside uses a touch sensitive surface which goes blank when the user is not actively engaged In unlocking the door. The numbers do not move around, making it slightly less secure. On the other hand, there’s less issue seeing them in the bright sun light. Even if the numbers are washed out, you can tell where to press based on relative position.
Yale provides the option for the door to be unlocked when your phone is nearby. While this works, i'm a little area of too much automation inadvertently unlocking my door when I don't want it to. Fortunately, this option can be turned off. I was able to set multiple codes in the lock. Each code needed to be assigned to a person. However, there did not seem to be a limit to the number of people who could be added. Entering the code was quite straightforward. The lock could also be activated using either Google or Amazon’s voice control services. I don’t have any Apple devices, but I’d read that it works with Apple’s newest home automation standard.
Installation and set up went very smoothly. I swapped out all the deadbolt hardware for the parts that came from Yale. Everything I needed was in the box. It took a little bit of jiggering to get the deadbolt mechanism to fit, but I didn’t need to do any major drilling. The app connected pretty quickly and easily. The only hiccup I had was when I entered my WiFi password wrong, I didn’t get an error specific to that. I just tried it again with the correct password and everything worked fine.
Overall, this is a good lock with fairly high security and easy installation at home. The lack of a manual key as a backup may be a concern to some if this is your only door, but the overall convenience of not having to carry keys has been a nice benefit when I go on walks. I would definitely recommend it.

I got the Yale Assure Lock 2 to replace my existing, “dumb” deadbolt lock and was excited to freshen the look of my front door (previous handle and deadlock were dark, oiled bronze and I was going to replace the lever lock with satin nickel anyway). I had high hopes for this lock, being a bit of a nerd/lover of tech, and having a real need for the features such as allowing my cat sitter access to the house, and knowing exactly when she arrives and leaves so I can ensure Daria D. Cat is getting the attention she deserves.
As much as I consider myself a technical expert, I also admit I am definitely NOT mechanically inclined, and when I got this, I expected I would need to hire a handyman to perform the installation. I even called the one I use most often for an estimate, and he gave a 3 figure price to remove the old and install the new. That was enough to motivate me to attempt the install myself, and I have to say, this was very easy, even for ME! Believe me, that’s really saying something 😊
Step 1 was removing the old deadbolt, which was just a matter of unscrewing the screws on the inside of the house and pulling the sections apart; then removing the screws that held the deadbolt plate against the door and removing that part, and finally removing the strike from the door jamb. Easy, 5-minute job, if that.
The next step was, using the supplied template, determining the face bore and side bore of the old lock, and then installing the new bolt and securing it to the door with the included screws. You’re basically doing the steps you took when removing the old lock in reverse. Once that is in place, you put the keypad part of the lock in the front of the door, making sure the cable is under the bottom of the lock. Next, you attach the mounting plate/bracket to the inside of the door, fishing the cable through that. Now, you use the correct set of screws to secure the mounting bracket to the door, fastening to the keypad portion of the lock. The instructions will let you know which screws to use based on the thickness of your door. Before you tighten down fully, make sure that your keypad is level on the outside of the door. Now, you’re going to connect the cable from the keypad side of the lock to the interior side of the lock; there is plenty of length to the cable, it isn’t a difficult task. Once that is connected, you simply side the interior portion of the lock onto the mounting bracket until it’s in place. You’re almost done! Now simply remove the battery cover to expose the 2 pre-installed screws that will secure the interior portion of the lock flush against the door. You’ll want to make sure it is level before fully tightening. Now, just pop in the Wi-Fi module (included), install the 4 batteries, and replace the battery cover, which easily slides into place.
Next, you’re going to download and install the Yale Access app on your phone, register yourself and your lock, and go through the setup process, which as with the hardware installation, is well documented and easy to follow.
The features I love most about this lock are:
> The ease of connecting to my Wi-Fi network with no bridge or any other requirements
> The ease of setting up the pass code and even separate codes for individuals so you know who is entering your home and when
> The ability to check the status of the lock from anywhere, and lock or unlock from your phone.
In conclusion, I give the Yale Assure Lock 2 my unconditional recommendation. It looks fantastic, can be installed with minimal tools or mechanical skill, and has amazing features you never knew you needed.

I’ve been looking for a solid smart home solution for my front door and this keyless update to the Assure Lock line from Yale is exactly what I was looking for.
Ease of installation will vary. But for mine it was as simple as removing the old keyed deadbolt and installing this in place. Only minor modifications are needed to install the DoorSense magnet used to detect the lock mechanism. What I have shown is the surface mount option. However, you can flush mount this magnet inside the door jam with only a 1/2” deep and 5/8” wide. This option keeps it completely hidden when the door is closed.
Setup requires a Bluetooth connection from your mobile device. Initial lock settings and Wi-Fi connection options are offered during the process. After which you will need to calibrate the lock with the DoorSense magnet provided that you have already installed. Integration with smart devices like an Apple Watch are also available and work as well as your connection allows.
The best part is the integration with 3rd party software like Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Home, IFTT, Philips Hue, and Airbnb. Being able to lock your door with a voice command or integrate it with other commands such as light settings or just leaving the house is great. It kind of removes the feeling of dread from future conversations when asking “Did we lock the front door?”. And little things like audible confirmation of lock activation and a led indicator showing red/green for locked/unlocked are really appreciated as well.
Overall this is an easy install experience, instructions are useful and plenty of tools provided for those who will not need to make any modifications, and the app is clear and easy to use even on wearable tech. I can’t think of much more that I want in a door lock right now.
