I paired this receiver with the Andrew Jones 5.1 speaker set and sounds great. Some upfront setting up required to sound good in living room

2 features in particular persuaded me to buy this model: 1) the 2-zone output; 2) the ability to control it from anywhere using a smartphone. There are plenty of features I don't use, or haven't yet used, but what I did need required a minimum of effort to setup. Personally I find it easier to use a printed copy of the user manual (not supplied but available for download) but following it was no problem.

I was searching for a new receiver and this one was a great choice. Can't beat Yamaha's sound. So if you're reading this and are considering other options, STOP and just get it.

Bought this as a replacement for an Onkyo receiver that stopped outputting any sound. Super easy to configure, basically automatic with the YPAO mic.

Yamaha's YPAO feature allowed me to use the included mic to setup my speakers easily. It also supports HDMI ARC, allowing my TV to send music to the receiver through a single HDMI cable.

This is a nice receiver. Every input you will need is included on this receiver. Setup is easy and it looks sharp too. I bought this to replace an Onkyo TX-SR606 that went kaput, but I liked very well up until then. However, there is one thing you should be aware of that affects my liking of the Yamaha. With my Onkyo, I hooked everything up to my receiver and output video to my TV via a single HDMI cable. Sound was processed through the receiver. On the Yamaha RX-V577, if you hook up component inputs, you have to output component feed to the TV. If you hook up composite inputs, you have to output composite to the TV. If you have multiple inputs, HDMI, component and composite, you have to have all of those sources output to the TV as well. As long as you know this going in, the unit still performs nicely, but this may make it worth the extra $100 to bump up to the RX-V677 for you.
