When my old Yamaha RX-A1020 "died" in January, I set about to find a replacement for it. There have not been very many receivers available in stores or on line all fall due to Covid and supply problems. When I started looking for a new Yamaha unit, no one had any available. An "advisor" at another site talked up an NAD unit, so I gave it a try. Luckily, they offered a 60 day return policy, for when it arrived it had no FM section or phono input, which I was assured it had. But I set it up with an old FM tuner I had in storage, and the unit sounded great! But when I was checking to make sure my Harmony remote worked properly, I discovered that my SACD's would not play properly through HDMI. That was strike three, and I sent it back. That same day I discovered that Best Buy had gotten in some Yamaha RX-A2080's, so I ordered one. A bit of over kill for my room, since I only run a 5.1 system, but WOW! Got it in three days, and since I have been using Yamaha for years, set up was easy and a lot quicker than the NAD unit. This thing sounds great! The extra power over the old 1020 makes my B & W speakers sing! I've been hearing details in music that I have never noticed before. I have my mains bi-amped, and I am all ready thinking of adding some height speakers for Dolby Atmos. At first I was worried about blowing my surround speakers that are only rated at 100 watts, but after discovering that the surround power is less than the output with two channels driven, my mind has been at ease and everything has been great! I would recommend this unit to anyone that has main speakers that can handle the 140 watts. I also cut out the top of my home built cabinet and added grills to let the heat escape, as the unit requires more ventilation than my cabinet was going to allow the way it was.

Amazing receiver! Upgraded from a pioneer elite and the difference is night and day. Gobs of power which really woke up my speakers. Didn't realize how underpowered they were until I got this AVR. The sound is very powerful while also being detailed. The feature set includes everything you could possibly need Atmos, DTS-X are incredible! The menus are very intuitive and setup was quick and easy while also allowing room for infinite adjustment. This is the best receiver I've owned hands down.

Nice sounds, ok for bass. U have to turn up the volume up to hear the sounds compare to my sony str dn1070 and 1080, but i like the DSP options. U can tweak and play the equalizer if u know how. Klipsch is way to go with this AVR and use 100/wts per channel for 5.1.4 setup to bring the sound to life compare to my sony without external amplifier. I tried my q acoustic speaker 3020i but too conservative. When i put my klipsch rp600m with 250c and rp400m with 4 micca ceiling speakers it does play better. Im saving for the new model rx a8a or the yamaha preamp 5200 and combine it with monolith 11 channels to see what it gives. But over all it was ok.

Initially, I purchased another receiver with not enough power. I had to return it. Then I studied a lot and speakers and receivers and decided to get Yamaha 2080. It is great, no more overheating and sound is much better.
I love it.

I have been extremely pleased with the performance of this receiver since owning for approximately 7 months now. No issues whatsoever with any of the hdmi ports, picture or sound dropping off, or glitches/errors. I will admit the YPAO calibration software can be a little finicky and I have found running it a couple times can yield pretty different results depending on the exact position of the mic. I currently setup with Klipsch RP towers and surrounds and am still just as impressed as I was when it was new when listening to music and watching movies. Given Yamaha's reputation for reliability I'm hoping for many years of service from this boss of a unit.

Receiver is big and heavy and not too hard to set up. However the directions for features and functions are poorly described in the owners manual. Not obvious how to set up second zone and isn’t obvious that you have to turn on second zone when testing out your hook ups.
Once I got it all done it seems to do what I bought it for.

It was between this Yamaha Aventage 2080 and a similar 9.2 Marantz, I chose the Yamaha because of the stories I'd heard of heat with the Marantz and because I've previously owned Yamaha's and always enjoyed them. I'm super impressed with everything about it. The YPAO system is solid, it balanced all my levels and I didn't need to tweak it at all. I really like the two HDMI outputs, which allows me to feed another TV in another room. The app is solid and now when it's time to watch a movie, I can sit down and control everything from my iPad (or phone). The price tag is steep, but given my last 6.1 Yamaha is 20 years old and still works fine, I plan to own this one for another 20. I'm running a 5.2.4 ATMOS surround setup with the 4 ceiling speakers being Sonance - 6-1/2" 2-Way In-Ceiling - also purchased from Best Buy. The setup sounds awesome.

This unit is phenominsl. I upgraded from a yamaha 7.2 syatem from 3 years ago. I really didnt expect much difference. Boy was I wrong, it simply blew me away. Made me feel like I had been listening to sattelite speakers before. Trust me, if you are thinking about it, just do it. Zero regrets, and a ton of appreciation, despite it being so much more than i planned on spending. The atmos is bar none, when paired with an svs ported sub and polk audio higher end towers and atmos speakers, amazing, whole new level. Do it!

I am old school audiophile working this wi-fi world. Main room is a 4K TV and Klipsch w/atmos, Definitive and Polk speakers ( 8.1.1) 2nd room are Artison Sketch's and another Polk (LR,C&W = 2.1.1).
3rd room is just a pair of R-51M's
This 2080 powers cleanly the Klipsch R625FA's only for Thorns turntable; Sound is Great. Sound carries through the home with all speakers operating and allows for adjustments every-which-way. Thus allowing for listening to speech and the music together.
Price & quality, I would recommend to friends. One who has a 1080.

The sound is great. This receiver took my Vintage JBL L150As to a new level. Hookup was fast and easy using the Yamaha application (download from Google or iTunes) which guides you through the setup that you require for your specific equipment. The included microphone and software in the receiver will provide you with the perfect setup for your custom toom.

So happy with this purchase, this receiver is outstanding. It is powerful, has enough inputs and easy to set up and operate, with plenty of options to tweak. Also, it runs cool. It is deep, so measure your cabinet depth before purchasing allowing for a few inches to connect cables.

The Yamaha RX-A2080 is a perfect fit for my home theater setup. I downloaded the app but found I didn’t need it as setup was easy and pretty much plug and play. Paired it with My Sony 75” TV and 8 other components including a Harmony remote to run the entire system from one remote. Highly recommend this unit and Best Buy experience was excellent!

Simply an amazing receiver. I upgraded from a Marantz 9.2 receiver that was 4k compliant, the Yamaha runs circles around it. Sound quality, functionality, and aesthetics are better than the Marantz. I have no regrets for buying this receiver. It’s expensive, but worth every penny if you’re a home theater enthusiast like me.
