This is an excellent replacement for the cheap DVD player that I was using. Really a night and day difference. Very good DAC and exceptionally quiet.

The first one was placed in use some 3 years ago and is still running fine. It has been my experience for many years that Yamaha and Sony audio/visual components run neck and neck in terms of reliability, and this unit is no exception. It has a solid D/A converter that yields a natural sound with no jitters or other anomalies at all. The only drawbacks are that the drawer doesn't extend as far out as you're probably used to (which I got over), the microprocessor is terribly dumb and slow, whereas a track can't be chosen until play is pressed, and cuing is not as exacting as on previous players, sometimes taking 2 seconds and at other times taking 4 or 5. Cuing is something like a box of chocolates; You never know which cuing time you're gonna get. Lastly, track time indication can't be accessed on the front of the unit and must be done by remote. So why did I give it 5 stars instead of 4? In the face of dwindling CD component players as the format gives way to the latest devices, it's a good reliable brand to have around. There is an alternative unit you might like (Onkyo C-7030) that is about half the price with as good a D/A converter and the same great sound without the drawbacks of this Yamaha. Cuing time is prompt and reliable, track time indication can be accessed on the face of the unit, and the drawer opens further out.

Good looking, display readable from 10' away, with better error correction than my (former) Marantz CD 5005. Programming a bit clunky (lots of "enter" keys) but functional. The USB port on the front plays my 7 folder flash drive (MP3) I made for the car. Worth the retail price.

Get one while you still can. Fewer single CD players ( or multiple CD players ) are being produced by audio manufacturers. Yamaha is one that still does; this CD player offers a high quality performance at a reasonable price. Highly recommended if you need a single CD player. Manufactured by Yamaha, an audio company that has been around for a long time

I just bought this mainly because of the dac converter. My previous unit had a burr brown dac converter and it was awesome but old....it died. Never owned a Yamaha electronic unit before but it is performing like a real keeper.

Hooked up to a new Yamaha Receiver and Klipsch Speakers, (also bought From Best Buy). I am 110% satisfied. I also caught a Yamaha CDC 600 5-disc changer on Sale and could'nt believe the sound quality.

I had no problems connecting this CD player to my Yamaha receiver. At 77 years of age, that is not a simple task. The sound is so much better than my old system. I only wish I could insert as many CDs as I could previously.

Some folks stated that the tray doesn't come out all the way, that made me think, turns out that it is no different than any DVD player I have, it does extend all the way and it's fine, glad I bought it from Best Buy.

Easy to use not a complicated remote to work, but a back lite would make it a bit easier

    Design bug!

I've had lots of Yamaha gear including speakers, receiver, CD players and generally like them -- and I have never commented on any audio gear but this deserves a warning to prospective buyers. This CD-S300BL was to replace a broken Yamaha CD changer [which I have since fixed by replacing the $5 drive belt that opens the tray]. I tried 2 new ones and returned each in quick succession [the 2nd one manufactured in May 2014] and both behaved the same way - so this is apparently a design bug. When you advance to a track, the first second of the track is omitted/muted/skipped. This happens using the remote or the front panel. Obviously, if you always play every track of your CDs, this irritation won't occur for you -- but, just as obviously, it shouldn't be there. For info, I only use the optical output. For reference, both shipping boxes appeared to have been opened prior to shipment -- perhaps for an inspection or maybe others had returned these.
